LD23 — Tiny World

Nanobot Rescue Team by Hegemege 2012-04-26T15:30:00

The game is pretty good, too bad for the sound which is really really annoying. Sick graphics too, a bit more polish on the spaceship would've helped maybe.

Also thanks for having a Linux client, not many games have it, I appreciate it :)

boing SMASH by dokidoki 2012-04-26T15:45:00

Absolutely lovely. I loved the retro style that isn't your usual pixelated platformer.

Nice job.

Nan-o by Mrnewt 2012-04-26T15:00:00

I couldn't honestly get it to run... I mean, the game just starts and then it spews out ships, regardless of what I do (or at least there doesn't seem to be any feedback at all). I'm always at score 0 while the enemy racks up points.

Tiny Ranger by Monkey Armada 2012-04-26T14:08:00

I'm sorry but I seem not to be able to run this game. I'm on a linux machine and I was really glad to see a linux game (besides mine :p ), however I installed all the required libraries but it doesn't seem to work.

The game starts, has some graphical glitches, and then it segfaults. Here's the console output:
http://pastebin.com/XrpEH28Y

Tiny Domination by Daz 2012-04-26T14:31:00

The game is simple yet interesting. Obviously might need some more balancing but it's cool.

The music is a bit too low-quality imo and might come up being annoying after some time playing, so are the effects.

Overall, though, a pretty solid entry that isn't your average retro-styled platformer. Kudos.

van Leeuwenhoek by Johnicholas 2012-04-26T16:17:00

Tried the linux version... I open the index.html using Firefox (Aurora) and it just plays the arpeggio.wav without showing anything. Why didn't you just upload it to a public folder on dropbox or something?

Petri-Dish Survival by Rex Peppers 2012-04-26T14:50:00

Camera is too slow to pan and can screw you up pretty badly. Enemies are way too predictable and yet difficult to avoid (being their AI basically GO TO PLAYER), graphics are pretty bland but fit the genre. Music is rather non-existant/annoying with sound effects.

Also, why do you make the game start from the previous level if you lose?

A Super Mario Summary by johanp 2012-04-24T18:44:00

This is seriously one of the best LD games I've played this LD. Really, amazing. Nice job.

Nematode by danblack 2012-04-26T15:21:00

Really confusing game, even after reading the instructions... the sounds are a bit annoying.

My Tiny Town by hungyg 2012-04-26T15:19:00

Really good game. I loved how simple and straightforward you made it look, especially loved the tutorial which a lot of LD entries don't have (mine either, which I regret).

Good job!

The Dream Sequencer by Morgawr 2012-04-26T11:51:00

I totally agree with you guys, both with the ending dragging on for too long and the whole puzzles/context interaction thing. I'll be writing a post-mortem article explaining why such things happened. Mostly because I had a bigger idea behind the whole thing and a very definite story I wanted to implement, however the time constraints forced me to cut out a lot of it and the game itself suffered from it :)

Thanks for playing though!

The Dream Sequencer by Morgawr 2012-04-26T16:09:00

I'm sorry, the game is developed in C++ using AngelEngine, it's a library that works on Linux, Windows and OSX. However I do not own a Mac (and I promptly refuse to, honestly). It took me a long enough time to port it to Windows as well as I'm currently on a very underpowered Linux PC (because my main Windows computer broke down a few days before LD... talk about luck).

I'm really sorry :( You might try and get it to run inside wine (if OSX has wine, I think it does..). I know it runs in wine on my Linux.

The Dream Sequencer by Morgawr 2012-04-26T17:03:00

@Raptor85 depending on your distro, you have to install the package libdevil-dev (debian/ubuntu/mint/crunchbang) or DevIL-ILUT-devel (fedora) or try looking for the related package for your specific distro.

The Dream Sequencer by Morgawr 2012-04-27T16:59:00

@Raptor85 if it's "unreasonable" then you can just skip this game and play all the other games, there's so many for this Ludum Dare! :)

LD26 — Minimalism

SoO by Proch 2013-05-01T22:24:00

I couldn't really understand what was going on. The game idea seems pretty good, however the game itself offers not much feedback when hitting the right "notes" or anything. Took me a while to get how it was supposed to work.

Mini Pirates! by josefnpat 2013-04-29T14:34:00

This is seriously great. Didn't fit well with the theme in my opinion but the rest is simply amazing.

Simply Escape by wccrawford 2013-04-29T13:10:00

Game was overall interesting, especially for a 48 hours game. I don't know if it's because I played it in Wine on Linux but I had a hell of a hard time targeting buttons on the panel, like the game was pushing the crosshair away whenever I went over it.

1bit War. by Mythalore 2013-04-29T12:14:00

Couldn't get it to run on Linux because it was the Data folder was actually called 1bitwar_Data (or something like that). Used strace and realized it was looking for the wrong folder so I changed its name to "Data" and then it worked.

Simple game, I have to say.

A Simple Circle by zatyka 2013-05-01T20:15:00

Wow, this game is great, I spent like hours trying to solve all the puzzles with as little figures as possible. Great adaptation to the theme, kudos to you!

Less is More by Joror 2013-05-01T22:32:00

I didn't know what to do, then I clicked on the monolith and it became clearer. Controls are weird and "oily" but the game itself has some really great mood. It's really weird. Not sure if good or bad, haha.

Make it minimalistic! by Saltysandwiches 2013-05-02T17:56:00

Interesting mechanic, it was really nice. The fact that you lost if you touched the checkered block was a bit unclear and the game would benefit more content but this is understandable, it's just 48 hours. Really great job!

Minimal Theory by ENP 2013-04-29T15:44:00

I don't really think voice acting done by other people for your game counts in the "recordings of other people". What's next, I let my artist draw stuff, print it, take a picture of it and then use it?

Oh well, I really wanted to play this game either way, but I can't get it to work with wine on Linux.

Out of darkness by Harsay 2013-04-29T16:23:00

This is really great, simple and yet effective. I loved the concept.

John and the Stairway to Zion by Dissing 2013-04-29T10:07:00

Really smooth game, the rotating room gave me a bit of motion sickness and the gameplay was a bit slow/sluggish but pretty good nonetheless!

Minimalistic House by escence 2013-04-29T10:20:00

I didn't quite understand what happened at the end but it was very good. Really smooth and nice, good job.

Too bad it was a bit short

Linewalker by jcmoyer 2013-04-29T09:27:00

I liked it, noticed some uncapitalized 'I' in text though :) It awas a bit confusing but really smooth and interesting gameplay.

Tomato Soup by ice cold muffin 2013-05-02T17:49:00

Nice little game, I appreciated the wall-breaking mechanic and the AI. Good job.

Coder by RealyUniqueName 2013-05-02T17:24:00

I'm sorry I cannot play this game because it's in Flash (I don't have Flash). Not your fault of course...

just wanted to drop by to say that I thought the image, from the preview, looked like a penis. Cheers!

Nothing is Impossible by Zekyon 2013-04-29T14:10:00

Game is pretty bad, nice idea and nice concept but the collision detection is abysmal, I couldn't reach past 10-15 seconds of gameplay, it simply didn't work as I kept crashing everywhere

H48SJ4, the MINIMIZING robot by Aifryz 2013-05-02T17:28:00

I totally agree with what the others have said, there's not much in here to do at the moment, might become a cool game if polished and improved.

Piet Mondrian: Minimal Techno Dance Simulator by erdos 2013-04-29T10:24:00

Simply amazing.

Between the lines by martijn 2013-04-29T11:52:00

Really great game, loved the humor and the simple and yet effective mechanics.
I agree the levels got tiring quickly but overall a very solid concept.

It's sad you put "Linux is better" in the windows level and yet aren't shipping the game for Linux too (I ran it fine with wine).

+1 point to humor for that line by the way :)

Comic Sans: The Game by FloatingGhost 2013-04-29T14:45:00

Same here, Linux (Ubuntu), cannot run this because of missing main class yadda yadda

Play The Game by Fervir 2013-04-29T15:08:00

Game does not work under wine for Linux :(

The Boy Who Leapt Through Planets by ydg 2013-05-01T23:15:00

AGDG bro, the game was awesome. I loved the idea of using multiple upgrades and stuff like that. Great stuff, really!

Save the Potato, Save the world. by JohnnySix 2013-05-01T08:05:00

Really good game, graphics were pleasant, audio catchy. Nice one!

Silly Jumpin' Pixel [Working link] by Tanius 2013-04-29T12:26:00

Game working fine here, the javascript alerts were pretty annoying, game was hard to play.

The Time Saver by HELLO23 2013-04-29T10:48:00

Game was pretty bland, unfortunately I'm on Linux and I get no music.
Overall it gets a few more points because it reminds me of an old game I made in Pascal around 10 years ago. Nostalgia'd like crazy!

Nerdogochi by tiffi 2013-04-29T12:02:00

The game was weird, simple mechanic and yet effective. Didn't really think it fit the theme that well (Minimalistic != Minimalism).

Overall a positive score.

The Silent by TheMrDakotaWood 2013-04-29T13:53:00

Really great mood, I was scared when playing this, I was expecting jumpscares.

Game got old really quickly though :( Not much to do.

MinimalJump by Xatulu 2013-04-29T11:43:00

Game was pretty smooth, jumping mechanics were quite annoying (jumping+right = getting stuck in next tile). The gameplay was very annoying when getting stuck at any wrong turn.

Overall it's solid, I liked the music.

MinimalisMan by Adipson 2013-04-29T14:41:00

At last some fellow who enjoys point and click games, if you like them, try out also my entry in LD which is a point and click adventure.

Overall, the game is great, humor was a bit shallow imo and the google translation from french to english totally killed it (dialogues are the most important thing in a point and click after all). Sound is pretty great and the art style is nice. I feel the theme was a bit too forced in the game itself. Did you really make all of this from scratch in 48 hours? That's amazing, if true.

Ming Imah Lism the Wizard ! by Gustera 2013-04-29T12:34:00

Game was overall positive. I think the fireballs shooting from the top of the player was a poor design choice (intended or not). Eventually it became easier/more-fun to just avoid enemies and skip rooms instead than fighting them all. The loading of the mana was boring and broke the flow of the game.

The sounds were pretty good, were they original? The bats dying had the same sound (or very similar) of the squishy things in Dungeon of Dredmor.

Darkness by LrdKzrth 2013-04-29T15:33:00

I didn't really understand what I had to do, I explored the whole place and didn't find an exit. Really nice ambient and mood, everything else seemed a bit lacking though.

Steve Can't Zen by DaanVanYperen 2013-05-01T14:47:00

This game was really good, gave me an overall nice feeling. I mashed E like crazy too, haha

please survive by palsina 2013-04-29T11:56:00

Unfortunately I cannot run this, I am on Linux and I tried it with wine, it says
"GLUT: Fatal Error in openframeworks: pixel format with necessary capabilities not found."

BLoX by ThirteenWB 2013-04-29T16:04:00

This is seriously the best entry I have played so far. Putting this ahead before even Piet dancing (which is a great entry, go check that shit out, btw)

I'm serious, simple, minimal and right on the spot. Amazing.

The Unseen by Lamprabbit 2013-04-29T09:43:00

Same here, I have only Linux and I cannot play this, unfortunately.

PaperFlick! by DdlyHeadshot 2013-04-29T12:07:00

I didn't quite understand what I was supposed to do so I just flicked around :)

make a binky by soerensen3 2013-05-02T17:31:00

Pretty original, I love terminal-related games and I love Pascal (nostalgia'd hard). Really really nice for a 48 hours game

PRISMA by Dark Acre Jack 2013-04-29T09:43:00

Game was a bit weird to understand, not sure if it's only on Linux (used standalone) but the main menu didn't work at all, only the begin button.
Gameplay was a bit slow/repetitive after a while but luckily it wasn't too long. Still a very good job!

The Islander by Yezu 2013-04-29T12:23:00

Game was weird, didn't find a way to change the options after having started the game.

Not sure if it's normal but the mouse was inverted (loop up = move mouse down, etc etc), very annoying.

Text Adventure by Selliato 2013-04-29T09:56:00

A lot of grammar errors, something that isn't really excusable on a text game... I was a bit annoyed that I couldn't backspace my way on the text, which piled up all over the place because of my typing retardation.
A very good idea and concept which became annoying fast (unfortunately).

Come No Closer by maloki 2013-04-30T01:25:00

I used to live in a cabin made of wood. After playing this game I am now surrounded by bricks.

Those pesky red blocks were surely scary. Great game! Simple and yet efficient.

BLOB by Kvisle 2013-05-12T01:07:00

Pretty cool game, got really hard towards the end. Nice work!

Ninja Playground by biscuitdough 2013-05-02T17:34:00

Not too bad, nice and interesting mechanic. I agree with the other comments, it was too hard to begin with, there was little player feedback and the ball/potato/whatever was very hard to get flying around.

1951 by Andrei Barsan 2013-05-02T17:43:00

Really really nice game. I would've loved some audio to go with it though. Interesting mechanic that could really get polished and improved and you might really have a good candidate for a good touch game for android/iOS/whatever. Good job.

Quick Copy by koller-digital 2013-05-02T18:00:00

Amazing game haha, really innovative. I hated drawing circles because it's so damn inaccurate but really really good game. Kudos!

Islands in a sea of blood by Andrew 2013-04-29T09:49:00

I understood the game but I had no idea what I had to do. It was very confusing.

Minimalism - the shoot 'em up by CiderPunk 2013-04-29T11:40:00

Simple game, a bit awkward to play with a mouse though.

Edward Was Human by geepit 2013-04-29T14:53:00

Really great entry, unfortunately I couldn't get the sound to play on Linux with wine, not sure if it's a bug with wine or whatever... Everything else is great, pretty good entry, one of my favorite.

Mad World by patrikspengler 2013-04-29T15:25:00

Couldn't get this to run on Linux, java complains about missing jinput and the .sh script doesn't work (there is no "PAUSE" command in bash...)

Colourless: The Deeds Of Evil Mr. Mono! by bb_buster 2013-04-29T15:12:00

Game is very slow and sluggish, not sure if it's intended or if it's low FPS on my machine... I found it pretty boring, honestly :(

Art Attack by Morgawr 2013-04-29T10:51:00

@martijn
curse you for linking tvtropes! :D

@Hegemege I found out after submitting that there was a silly bug where you could click on exits placed under items/entities (like the hidden cave or the throne room) and get through without solving the puzzles. I fixed it now, the only item that has no actual use is the note in the Library.

But yeah, thanks for the comments guys, I had a lot of fun making this! :)

Art Attack by Morgawr 2013-04-29T11:15:00

Yes, to give items to characters you need to select the item in the inventory and then click on the character. I apologize if it's not polished and is unclear, I really rushed the release to stay within the 48 hours period (one hour before the end I didn't even have an ending and I didn't get to playtest this much) :(

Art Attack by Morgawr 2013-04-29T15:18:00

@nintendoeats I know it's a poor excuse but the disconnect between the two parts was intended. I wanted to make it longer but not enough time for more content (I had a lot of trouble fitting everything within the 48 hours as is). For people who played my previous LD game last April (another point and click game), the mood and feel is mostly the same (although puzzles have improved), basically a 180 degrees turn at the end.

I should plan things more thoroughly... I'll keep a note for the next time :)

Art Attack by Morgawr 2013-04-29T21:15:00

@Masadow try refreshing, eventually it will work. I promise!
I really hate this bug, I don't understand why it happens, it's so annoying and I am still trying to fix it.

Art Attack by Morgawr 2013-04-30T13:52:00

Lots of updates and bugfixes (see edited main post). For people who couldn't play it before because of loading issues... well I hope they're gone now. If they aren't then re-try and keep refreshing (give it some time though).

For Opera/Safari/IE users (I feel sorry for you), the game *should* work but I haven't had the time to test it. Let me know.

Art Attack by Morgawr 2013-05-02T17:51:00

@Martin_Monosys and once browsers used to be only for web pages and not videogames :)

No, I'm sorry, really, I'd love to make it work properly on every browser but in 48hours I couldn't really do more than this. On Firefox it works, on Chrome/ium it works too. With IE, Opera or Safari it gets a bit trickier because of .mp3 and .ogg sounds, I added .mp3 music and made the proper checks to get them to work on the right browsers but I have no mean (or will) to test them. Sorry. ^^
But, hey, firefox and chrome are free!

Art Attack by Morgawr 2013-05-02T17:52:00

@imagnity try waiting a bit, the loading bug should technically be gone. It might take a while to load the music. If it really is stuck loading then refresh and retry. I'm sorry it is a problem :(

LD27 — 10 Seconds

TSHIF by rustybroomhandle 2013-08-26T10:20:00

I like the way you used the theme, really ingenious. I agree the robot is a bit slow and the sound was weird but a solid entry nonetheless.

6th Station by juaxix 2013-08-26T19:09:00

I didn't quite understand what was the point of this game, to be honest. The theme felt a bit lacking in general.

A Square Of Space And Time by PTSnoop 2013-08-26T10:49:00

Interesting gameplay, if further explored it could make for an interesting turn based strategy game. Even in battles you could never win, you can still have survivors which can go back in time and help their previous selves to eventually win the battle.

Amazing, simply amazing.

Tale of a Lost Soul by eolhing 2013-08-26T09:46:00

This game is great. I love it, simple and yet effective, also with really nice depth.

The only problem, I found it a bit hard, especially with the collision detection on corners, it was really unforgiving. Not that it's bad, it's amazing! Kudos to you.

I like the audio a lot, there was a bit of a glitch in the sound when changing levels but I'm not sure if it's because I was running it emulated on Linux. For all other Linux developers/users out there, this game works perfectly under wine ;)

YOU MUST GET THE ATOMS by Terrabyte 2013-08-26T10:24:00

Amazing game, I didn't care about all the atoms combinations, I just mashed 1-2-3-4-whatever until stuff happened on screen... and it worked!

I had lots of fun playing this game. Also as a fellow Linux developer, keep up the good stuff! Linux strong!

11 Seconds by TheJackiMonster 2013-08-28T18:25:00

Nice little entry. Gameplay was challenging and fun, audio was snappy. Didn't understand why it's called "11" seconds but fun nonetheless ;)

Saloon Shoot Out by alycarter 2013-08-26T18:10:00

Nice game for a 48 hour competition, I enjoyed the graphics and the gameplay. At first it felt like very unbalanced, then I realized I can run and also shoot while walking. It became fun really quickly after that.

Interim by Figglewatts 2013-08-26T11:02:00

Acceleration is iffy and movement is too "smooth", it feels very sluggish when you are trying to catch speed and then you get stuck in a corner. Also audio would have been great.

Bad things aside, this is really impressive. Slick and yet simple graphics, and also with a level editor! good job.

TimeOut by h8urf8 2013-08-26T19:17:00

I love it, I really do. I loved the mood and the take on the theme, I wish there were more text-based/adventure games out there, far too many platformers if you ask me. Really great job, too bad for the typos but with 48 hours I guess it's understandable ;)

Time Squirrel by Toestee 2013-08-26T09:52:00

The game was nice, really good job. The time mechanics were great and the slowdown effect was amazing. The only thing I didn't like were the controls, way too tricky and the movements are way too fast. I could hardly stand on a single platform unless I was holding the spacebar throughout the whole game.
Playing this under Linux by the way, thanks for supporting the better OS ;)

Ten Second Dungeon by Jimanzium 2013-08-26T10:57:00

Good game, terrible graphics. I'm sorry but I still feel my eyes burning with an afterimage of those scanlines

10 Seconds of Love and Anger by kcpunk666 2013-08-26T19:05:00

Weird game, you must have been on acid when you made this, haha.

The theme felt a bit forced but nonetheless an interesting game.

10corp by vittorioromeo 2013-08-26T10:29:00

Nice game, great mood and pacing. The controls were a bit iffy with jumping while holding an arrow key while also holding a crate. Certainly not a game for the faint of heart, it's not really easy but it's really well done.

Good job!

The Duellists by jay griffin 2013-08-26T10:42:00

This game is genius. Simply genius. It's so simple and straightforward and yet addictive. Graphics are gorgeous and gameplay is solid.

I didn't get audio to play though, I couldn't hear the bell (running Firefox on Linux).

YorkTime by Steve | tacospice 2013-08-26T10:37:00

Good game, I got spooked by the popping face. The thing moves way too slow to my tastes, honestly, but it's an interesting mechanic nonetheless.

GO AWAY I'M EXPLODING by sirtetris 2013-08-26T10:53:00

Ahaha oh wow, I'm laughing at this humor, it's simply great. Good job, simple gameplay, interesting setting. 10/10

Limitactics by Killswitch 2013-08-28T23:25:00

For anyone who wants to play this, you can run it inside dosbox.

I have no idea what I just downloaded and run, it gets into an infinite loop when I type "Marshmallow".
10/10 for the C code though.

Life of a Photon by netguy204 2013-08-26T12:11:00

Amazing audio and mood, interesting and fun gameplay, I kept re-playing and re-playing to get the best score. One of my favorite entries so far!

LABYRINTH10 by Nizan 2013-08-26T10:44:00

Really hard game, nice audio. Simple gameplay, good job! :)

Timed Strategy by Zelosfan 2013-08-26T10:04:00

Really nice game, it was fairly complex and yet easy to understand while playing. Interface and controls were great, good job!

Korrod by eelfroth 2013-08-28T23:40:00

Wow dude, your game is so similar to my LD entry that I was genuinely surprised. It's also great, good job. I love the sound and the artstyle, the bit with the jumping/falling outside of the map was awesome.

Check out my game as well, they are really similar (although mine is turn-based and more unbalanced haha).

Defense of the Zorion by RobProductions 2013-08-26T19:26:00

Nice game, I loved the audio the most. Lots of content for just 48 hours, really great.

The movements felt a bit sluggish and trekking back to buy upgrades felt very annoying.

10 Steps to Hell by Morgawr 2013-08-26T10:50:00

@sirtetris

If you are so lucky to get a rare armor drop, you can easily get through most of the game with that. Usually you don't get such drops until later so you'd be steamrolling the early enemies.

I can say that without such rare drops the game is very hard, which is why I'm trying to balance it more and release an improved version ^^

Time Flies Straight by mrspeaker 2013-08-26T09:58:00

This game is great. I'm speechless, I truly am. I loved the take on the mechanic, the graphics were really fitting and the mood was just right.
Keep up the good work, this game really blew my mind.

I'm sorry, I cannot load this game on Linux, there is no Data directory in the link :(

/cast by yongcamu 2014-12-08T21:05:00

Hi! I'm on Linux so I can't use the unity web player. Downloading everything from Google drive takes way too long (I can't download the whole directory?). Can you please host it somewhere else or just zip it please? Thanks :)

Brave Adventures by Eponesh 2014-12-08T21:12:00

Ads on a Ludum Dare game? Really?

Sorry, game looks interesting but I won't play stuff where ads keep popping up every time (and thus, to be fair, I won't rate it).

Really interesting game idea. I love the graphics and design, packed and simple. It fits the theme really well.

It would be nice to have more enemies and less exploitable mechanics for a more balanced game, but obviously that's too much to expect in 48 hours. I really enjoyed it! Nice job.

@caryoscelus: Yes!
I agree 100% with you on everything, I had planned two extra branches of the story and extra features that I couldn't hack together in time for the competition. This is going to be a general purpose VN engine and I will definitely add everything you said, these problems irked me as well :)

I might expand on the missing branches of the story and give a bit more closure to everything when I can get around to it (polishing the engine more is my priority at the moment).

Thank you everybody for the great feedback and comments, I enjoy seeing people's opinions on the game, both positive and negative! :)
