I actually really liked this, when the twist came and you started running away I actually went "Hah!" :D

I actually really liked this, when the twist came and you started running away I actually went "Hah!" :D
I genuinely enjoyed that, nice idea and well executed :)
I have an unhealthy obsession with games like this, so I've had to delete it from my computer before I spend 5 years playing fish mode. Good job :)
Probably one of the most fun games I've seen here so far, will keep this to play every now and then I think :) Looks very pretty too!
Going to work on it some more outside of the competition, and actually explaining the controls is top priority ^^' Can't believe I forgot to... xD Glad people have enjoyed it though! Thanks for playing :)
Yeah the flicker thing I have no idea about at the moment, a few people have mentioned it, but then others not had a problem at all. Looking into it, but thanks for pointing it out :)
Great graphics and audio, and the backstory-thingy made me chuckle: but I totally couldn't get a hang of the controls and get passed the first couple of levels :/ Perhaps a bit more of an easier start for people with 'suxxor skillz' like me - perhaps when I'm a bit more awake I'll try to persevere.
Cute graphics, what is it about amorphous blobs with little eyes that's so charming eh? Collision was a bit buggy, but it was good fun all the same. Definitely deserves more plays! Good job :)
Words cannot express how much I love the graphical style. <3
I really liked that, but it felt a lot like the opening to a much larger game! I want to know what happens when the colony ship arrives! :)
Rating this 5/5 for Mood not because it was "Sad" or "Depressing" or told the meaning-of-life, but because I felt genuinely creeped out by the cat & music the entire time 0.o Good job.
I love the title too, it's the only thing I really like about it despite having made it >.<
Actually, if you don't collect any/enough blues (or too many reds) - he will get more lonely, when he gets too lonely, the meter goes red, and he will lose tranquility rather than gain it over time. Though it's not entirely obvious, I wasn't really happy about it myself.
Still, thanks for the feedback :) I wasn't going to work on this really... but I've had quite a few comments here and elsewhere that people like the concept so... who knows! :)
Pretty good; small, simple, and feels fairly finished (alliteration - win.) I feel a no-goal/survive-as-long-as-you-can game like this needs some kind of high-score system though; that's my only real criticism. Anyway, good work. :)
Very, very ambitious for a 48hr game, and not so sure the cutscene-gameplay-cutscene approach is a good idea for getting finished on time. Still, you'd obviously put a lot of work into this - so good job!
Really needs multiplayer (I suppose I could just get some friends and share the computer ... but... but...)
The ability cards could also be a little clearer. Wasn't sure what was an enchantment or not, and at first I thought the Angel's spells were hurting the Hero or enhancing the traps too. But figured it out in the end.
Overally, very good. Graphics & Audio are lovely.
The reward for 100% is the best reward it could possibly be. Outstanding game. :)
No real goal for a game, and a bit too random without meaning for an art-piece in my opinion. Well presented, and lovely audio however. Pleasant.
Gaaah, I was really having fun with that until the safe-cracking bit. I have mild colourblindness, and using such light shades of yellow and green in such a small space made it very hard for me :(
I loved the moonwalking trap, never seen anything like that. Nice.
Brilliant.
Wonderful interpretation of the theme, and actually very fun. Just taking a break to rate... then going to play some more!
Interesting interpretation of the theme :) I enjoyed it. The Naughts and Crosses was a bit buggy though, it was saying I'd lost when I'd won. Also, the spaceship bit I flew off the screen and couldn't get back! Shame :(
Looks really promising, but I just can't bring myself to sit through the opening each time I die (if not for the lack of skipping, but the flashing lights give me a headache). A real shame because I like the look & feel of this. :/
Not quite seeing the connection to Evolution but it really is quite fun, I think it's really clever what you did with the lightning & mouth-floor-things. Probably could have done without the sex noises though ;)
At first, I thought I was controlling all three things. When I figured it out, was really good fun! (Probably just me being sleep deprived from the weekend, but possibly some kind of indicator to show which one is you would be useful). Nice. :)
Actually rather fun once I figured out what was happening. I think a bit more clarity on when/how they are 'evolving' and it's spot-on. One of my favorite games so far. :)
Actually not bad. Could have been a little clearer what you had to do, and there were a few bugs/things that didn't seem to make sense. Overall though, I enjoyed it :)
Thanks guys.
@Pixelulsar - I'm utterly gutted I ran out of time to do art for the cards. Even something simple. It became a last minute decision between art or the tooltips themselves and I went with the latter. Hope it was the right decision in the end.
Will do a post-compo version with more cards, and possibly some deck building elements as well.
Oh, and don't forget to post your scores! ;D
(I've managed 3112, but I'm sure you guys can beat that!)
You need to keep both species (Squares/Quads and Circles/Disks) alive. Extinction occurs when either of their populations reaches 0. It's not very clear - writing the instructions at 1:40am probably isn't the best idea xP
Note to self: It probably should say "Disks have gone extinct!" or "Quads have gone extinct!" on the game over screen to give you a bit more of a clue what's going on.
Thanks girls 'n' guys! :D If people like it (which seems to be the case!) I will do a post-compo version. And of course Pereubu - a Tutorial is a must! :D
It does need more explaining indeed.
The reason the game ends even though there's stuff on the screen: There are two species Quads (square) and Disks (Circle) - if *either* species goes extinct, it's game over.
"What, player is evolving!" Was so obviously going to turn up in this competition... yet it bought a smile to my face! :D Cute game. :)
Never seen anything quite like it. Refreshing. Nice work. :)
I am actually colourblind, so took me a while to realise I was mixing colours. Still, I figured it out in the end, that bit wasn't so bad. xD
The hardest thing for me though is the controls. It's really slippery and those mazes are quite complex for 10 seconds!
All in all a really great idea and I can see it being a lot of fun, but the controls need to be tighter as the frustration levels are a bit high at the moment, for me at least.
I liked the graphics, and the mood was good. I think the actual game idea was neat too... though perhaps a little simple? Would like to see it grow in complexity over time. Anyway, good job! :)
Nice one! I think the UI for the 'quests' could do with being a bit clearer, but I really like the idea of Platformer+Simon Says :)
I figured it out... I think... but gah, was too complicated for me - sorry :/
Reeaaaaalllly nicely executed. Good work. It was so... classy! And fun to boot! xD
I don't know what-
It's just that-
What is this I don't even-
Everything about this is wrong... but in such a right way. The colours are awful... but are a perfect choice for this piece of poetry.
Your writing is immense. Once you push through the first impressions it really, really grips you something fierce.
A nice moody game, the music was a real treat.
However I found the fish moved so sluggishly and the clock rarely started at 10 when it moved to the new fish that I was constantly in the "fish has died" screen - more so than in the game screen! Without a clear objective, I got bored quite quickly :(
The idea is nice though and I think with some polish and more indication that you are actually progressing it could be a poignant little art game. :)
Brilliant! Really polished - right down to the detail of shooting before the bell. It's great that it lets you do it, and then 'forfeits' you rather than, say, just resetting.
Could use a little more fanfare when you win overall (I like my fanfares...) but really, really good game. :)
(Oh and bonus points for interesting interpretation of the theme!!)
Please polish this game post-competition to improve on the general interaction design, distinguishing between characters at a glance (but keep the graphics simple!) and allow people to skip the intro on a re-try. But absolutely keep the abstract nature of it. I enjoyed building up my own little story about the characters; to me, Charlotte and Catherine are sisters with their own families, but havnt spoken to each other in years. Maurice, I gathered, is a child of one of the families as they had no gripes of their own... and I'm sure everyone has their own interpretation.
Absolutely brilliant, and again, with polish (but no fundamental change to the game) I believe this will be an important part of games culture.
Really nice concept :)
The controls were a little sluggish, and I found it a bit confusing in the beginning, but with some polish, this has got potential to be really good!
Oh man, when you drop the balloon...
...right in the feels.
Really compelling, played it all the way through. Great writing - some really nice image systems in there, warmth cropped up a lot, really helped to build a mood. Will make a note to play through this a few more times to see the other endings! :)
Nice idea, pretty fun. Last level was very hard so I couldn't finish :(
Also... the font at the start stood out as really crisp and clean. Odd thing to notice, but... nice one :D
Nice. The controls were a bit glitchy in places - especially when jumping on the doves.
The graphics were nice, but the audio was exceptional (and great voice acting & script too!). So created a really good mood. Nice work guys :)
Brilliant. A genuinely great game. :)
I am so bad at multitasking... so this completely screwed me over. Not that that's your fault of course! by all accounts, a nice and well put together game. Good job :)
Really nice, the graphics are cute and the writing is actually pretty funny. The gameplay is really clever, a great puzzle. However I got stuck at once point because it seemed the scientist guy couldn't jump high enough to get to the terminal... (or I messed up the puzzle and I am dumb!)
Actually pretty addictive. Nice. :D
Nice and moody, though wasn't sure on my overall objective (or how much longer I had to go...). What would have helped in the beginning was having a rotor right outside the house so you knew what you were looking for/doing. I found one eventually, but when I got to the point I have to collect 4 - I got a bit bored. Also not sure what it was being 'painfully honest' about? :/
Quite good fun. Would have liked a score / high score maybe so that I'm more inclined to replay? Good work though, pretty solid game :)
This is really solid and I enjoyed playing it. Found the bomb-throwing robots a bit too hard to kill (but I really liked how you did it). First time I walked under the water and it took my items it made me smile - clever. A lot of work needed but I think this could be really fun if you polish & balance it! :)
