Nice graphics and nice concept that fit perfectly the theme ! great job !

sheigeno 2014-12-08 09:20

..i just keep smashing space button..but nice graphics anyway

liamtwose 2014-12-08 11:15

Great little game, this could make for a great multiplayer tablet style board game affair. Nice job.

groydis 2014-12-08 12:12

Nice art, Nice concept, executed well. What's not to like. Well done.

alpha_rat 2014-12-08 12:14

Very nice graphics!
I also just kept pressing spacebar, there is some lack of gameplay and objective but it feels very polished, and it fits the theme perfectly

tipyx 2014-12-08 12:28

SPACE, MOOAR SPACE :D !
Otherwise, it's pretty cool, and I love the UI and the Goat :')

morgawr 2014-12-08 13:13

Really interesting game idea. I love the graphics and design, packed and simple. It fits the theme really well.

It would be nice to have more enemies and less exploitable mechanics for a more balanced game, but obviously that's too much to expect in 48 hours. I really enjoyed it! Nice job.

psychomonster 2014-12-08 13:39

This graphics are really nice and the idea is really cool. But the decisions you have to do are not far-reaching enough... Is the dungeon randomized? It is way to easy... but I like the style very much... much better than my entry ^^

silii 2014-12-08 14:03

Nice game, maybe need to upgrade difficulty, and change "default item" appears (Coz smashing space = finish game actually, but i can loose if i search for :D

thescragglyman 2014-12-08 14:32

I really Like the graphics, the ram sprite is so cute. I wish there was more to it than just pressing space, and i played a few times winning each time. I guess i found it to easy. It would have been nice to have some way of impacting the game in some way other than spacebar. But yeah 48 hours, for 48 hours its a great game. Love it :D

01101101 2014-12-08 14:49

Thank you everyone for your feedbacks!
I was thinking of adding (for a post-compo version) a gold requirement to exit the dungeon (you need to pay a certain amount for the door to open), so that if you just press space all the time, you don't get enough gold in the end.
I think that would make the actual goal of the game more obvious and force the player to make an effort.

okkolobr 2014-12-08 16:47

Do you have any mean to calculate the max amount of gold the player could have earn if he played it differently ?
"You found 515 gold. Great. But you could have made 10101 gold ! Try harder next time ;)" Something like that

Otherwise, I like the simplicity of the game :)

tiago-ling 2014-12-08 17:04

Very nice graphics and cool idea, but i wanted to be able to choose the next tile instead of a pre determined path. Overall a real polished entry, congrats! :)

renatopp 2014-12-09 02:58

Nice game as always. It is a good optimization game with nice graphics. +1 to choose the path.

bygmalion 2014-12-09 15:00

Nice Game, but like some other person said, I'd have prefered if you could choose the next tile.

recursor 2014-12-09 17:49

Nice gameplay and nice graphics. It took me a bit to figure out that I could change the treasure options by using the arrow keys. Once I got that, I was off to the races. Nice job.

deepnight 2014-12-09 23:43

It's a good thing you explained the twist of your game, it's much more interesting when you upgrade the dungeon :D

It reminds me a lot of Dungeon 18 on Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qqhouse.dungeon18&hl=en), very nice entry which would deserve a more complete version! I love this kind of simplified roguelike :)

lynx 2014-12-10 20:53

I may have missed it but is there an option to skip rather than press Spacebar, if so that would solve my issue of lack of choice and gameplay. Other than that, it looks great and has potential to grow into something great Post-Compo!

radstar 2014-12-10 21:20

Ooooooh, it took me some time to realise I could choose upgrade with the arrow keys >.< The game get really more interresting once you get this point x) Nice game!

ruerob 2014-12-10 22:30

Very nice graphics and gameplay. I like the boardgame style.

lereveur 2014-12-10 23:40

I liked the one-straight-forwards-choose-wisely-game concept ! :D Well done !

xhunterko 2014-12-11 05:53

Simplistic but fun!

anissen 2014-12-11 07:47

Very interesting game! It reminds me of Ernesto (http://ernesto-rpg.tumblr.com/) -- and that's a good thing ;)

I would have liked to get more "effect" out of the choices I made. Other than that a great idea and an elegant mechanic. Well done!

rocketship 2014-12-11 14:38

Concept is absolutely great, good job on that. The gameplay itself is quite boring at the moment, the wait time is just too long on the skills and it left me a bit frustrated. But I definitely see the value in the concept and with some extra work it could be a blast!

rocketship 2014-12-11 14:40

Oh dear I commented on the wrong I played, so disregard the part about the wait time on skills! Otherwise the review stands as it is!

erkberg 2014-12-11 15:08

I really like the graphics of this game and the soundeffects are also good. The gameplay could be great, if only one could do more than just press space, like choose your own path. In two runs I didn't get a dungeon upgrade so it was really just pressing space all the time, but I can imagine it's more fun if you have to think about such decisions.
Anyway, good job overall!

01101101 2014-12-13 11:44

@Erkberg: You can choose what you pick from the chests with the arrow keys. There is always a dungeon upgrade + 2 random loot in there.

thopis 2014-12-18 16:21

Love it in everyway!Main character is great, colour palette is just awesome, and generally the environment is perfect. I wish you'll make it someday a full game!Keep up the good work!

dunin 2014-12-18 16:38

cool job! I think I will play a long time with more levels...
remind me of ernesto rpg (even it's different gameplay)
my best: 556.

rzuf 2014-12-18 18:10

Wow, awesome concept! Would make a great roguelike-like if expanded! Graphics are great and the whole gameplay is super-easy to comprehend. Splendid job! :D

snickersnacks 2014-12-18 18:36

You did a good job setting the tone and building a mood with the graphics. I ended up mashing the space bar to skip to the end because it got repetitive quickly. Overall I like the concept though, with some tweaks to make gameplay more challenging this would be great to play while at work or on my phone :) Good job!

sorle 2014-12-18 18:39

the idea and the graphics are really good and i enjoyed playing your game.
But for me there is to less interaction between the player and the game. I mean way to many times i have no choices but pressing space. hmmm you know "stanley parable"? maybe stanleys job was to play your game... just joking. I'd love to see an update of your game with more things to do!

gaspard_ 2014-12-18 18:49

Never got over 500something, but I liked the game-play!
Maybe loot is a little too random, but that's just a nitpick.
Good job!

arcturusdeluxe 2014-12-18 19:22

It looks lovely, but I wish there was more to actually do. I know you can select your item and stuff, and upgrade the dungeon, but it still ultimately results in hitting space a whole lot. Still though, its a decent base to build upon.

robert_steiner 2014-12-18 19:26

Wow, I like that idea.
The fact that this game if more or less finished is amazing too.

madmaw 2014-12-18 20:05

Good use of the theme. From a mechanics perspective, I feel that there's something missing, but if you added whatever it is you could have one of those "minutes to learn, lifetime to master" type games.

tuism 2014-12-18 21:35

Love the graphics, it's very well done :) Cool concept...

BUT:

The lack of informed choice is a problem in this, all you can do is replay the game a few times and see how much risk (dungeon upgrade) you can take in relation to the damage/health/hooves upgrade.

I like the concept of a quick dungeon, but this feels like repeating a puzzle to solve it rather than having an acutally intelligently solved puzzle.

lemmily 2014-12-18 21:53

didn't realise until halfway round you could press the arrow keys to pick an item... doh. Nice work though! A little more control tactically and it'd be pretty addicting!

downtown 2014-12-18 22:07

The graphics are great, game-play could be more interesting although the idea seems fruitful.

benjamin-soule 2014-12-18 23:03

I love the strategy of this gameplay. It would have been perfect with different monsters type. I know it's not compatible with your progressive stats for monster but if you display bat for top init, turtle for top life and wolf for top attack, the player will know which monster he dont want to encounter.
- add 3 others monsters ( crab for life+init, bear for life+att and snake for att+init ) and you can deal with draw on top value.
- add 1 monster for balanced stats and a set of 3-4 colors for each 7 monsters and you deal with all your stats possibilities :)

Note sure it is what the game need the most, but It would be really fun to running through the dungeon with a monster in mind you dont want to encounter.

benjamin-soule 2014-12-18 23:06

Oh even if the graphics are minimalistics, you have a lot of taste for colors and design.

01101101 2014-12-19 10:42

Thank you all!
@Ben: yeah I wanted to have more monsters and have their stats visible (skin/color) but I ran out of time...

papygaragos 2014-12-19 16:38

You did a poor job at explaining the twist in your game, both ingame and in the text below. My first playthrough I had the impression I had absolutly no choice : the content of a room and the content of a chest felt totally random.

It took me 3 sessions to understand how the chest were working (and I knew all that time from reading other comments that I was missing something...). I just couldn't figure how to "upgrade the dungeon": I tried pressing enter, pressing up, clicking on the chest, clicking on my hero, clicking on the little flashing arrow... Only after all that did I found how the chests worked.

I am not telling you the game is bad (on the contrary), but you should really rework your gui, my guess is that a lot of people probably missed the point of the game.

01101101 2014-12-19 19:18

@PapyPilgrim: Well it does say "SPACE to choose" when you see the item in the chest, and nothing in the game uses the mouse so I didn't think people would try to click. But you're right the whole thing was not very understandable...

carduus 2014-12-20 14:30

Dear Santa! i believed you did not participate this LD31!
This is what i call a very nice entry, i really enjoyed the concept to choose wisely your loot in order to exit the dugeon as a wealthy&Healthy Goat!
What i'll enhanced:
-> It would be interesting to see what goat pick when there is some gold in chests :)
-> Public gold score online : the richest Goat! (+twitter to go viral)
->Enhanced Chest GUI, just show all the loots by the same time (not easy i know), explain better that the loot choice is very important.
-> Restart Button :) same at the end of the game :)
-> BIGGER DUNGEON !!!!! (wider screen or maybe put some doors with side bonus dungeons and fuck the LD31theme)
-> Extended version on iOs Android
Very nice job by the way, with better explanations of the chests loot strategy and the main goal, this game deserves to be in the top ranking :)

Jeremias 2014-12-24 14:34

Wow. you should definitely elaborate on this. A very fun and addictive game. The pixel art is nice and I really wish you had more time to add more depth to it! Very good job :D
