Pretty cool, but *very* difficult! At least for me.

Pretty cool, but *very* difficult! At least for me.
Very nice idea! I like how the timer doesn't start until you start moving very much. Gets pretty difficult though.
Pretty nice! Floaty controls is true, but it's not the worst I've seen.
Awesome game!

haha... vintage dagger- I immediately said "where's the hipster?"'
That's exactly what I thought too!
This game really is excellent.
Very moody. Not sure how the theme plays in? Also not sure what to do when ammo runs out. Great graphics though. Mouse cursor should be hidden/locked while playing.
Graphics are great! Looks like a Gameboy Advance game, which is excellent. Sounds like one, too.
I didn't understand what to do though, until I read a comment below that explains it.
Also, maybe one of the trolls should be automatically selected at the start of the game, so you can start moving immediately.
Nice! I really like the art style actually. Great idea too. For future versions, maybe also have enemies that can *only* move when the others are frozen?
Very cool game, I liked it. Couldn't get the web version to load; Windows version worked.
Interesting game. Didn't get very far though. It's hard to tell what's the floor and what's a wall. Pretty funny style though.
Made it to 21 before dying. Kind of stressful, in a good way though. Music is could be improved. Very cool graphical style and idea in general.
Very cool!
Very difficult, and the window is absolutely tiny. Solid platformer controls though, and it restarts very quickly when you die, so it doesn't get any less fun even if you keep failing.
Hmm.. I walked for a little while, and when passing near the fireplace, it told me I'd survived and escaped. I think that's a bug? Nice game though, good mood.
Cool idea.
Pretty sweet! Made it to level with score 18075 ~_~ Music didn't really feel like it fit though.
Very cool! I couldn't get the dude into the manhole though.
Nice! The thruster sound is a little too intense though.
Strange and very cool. Unusual control scheme. Made me pretty confused, but don't take that as criticism!
Nice sounds, nice music. Overall, rather nice!
Hilarious.
However, no particular goal except perhaps "surviving" the time limit, which is pretty brief. But that's the theme, so not much to do about it I suppose.
Avoiding being caught is pretty easy.
Graphics are very minimalistic, but they fit, they work, and I like them.
In the end, I guess the humor factor is what really makes this game, but that's not a criticism though.
Great game!
I think all the good stuff in this game (multiplayer, movement, graphics) goes without saying, so I'll focus on the criticism.
The main problem is that there's no "identity" to each player. It being a multiplayer game, I should be able to choose a name and have it displayed ingame, along with everyone else's, and their kill/death count (highscore?), and maybe messages like "A killed B."
The way it is right now, I may as well be playing against bots.
Another minor point is the controls; I often use the right hand (IJKL) for movement and left (WASD) for actions in games like these, so I would've loved it if I could configure them.
With these things implemented, and maybe more levels, this could very well be the only multiplayer game I need!
Overall 5/5!
A bunch of non-original content which I guess is against the rules? The game's very cool though. Lots of nonsensical humor. I like it.
Pretty sweet! Given the simple gameplay, no real criticism to be made here. Highest score: 9401!
"The objective of the game isn't to dodge drinks" - "Try not to drink too much next time". These two don't add up!
Nice game though. Controls are a little unresponsive (the player should move after a light tap, not holding the button down). Overall, I like it a lot.
Nice use of the theme, I think.
What?!
I spawned in a solid green area and it told me I couldn't walk or run anywhere (through shrubbery). Hmm. Nice idea, though.
I think this is actually the game I spent the most time on so far. Maybe because it's pretty slow, but without getting too boring. I think the slow pace and obviously deterministic behaviour prevents failure from feeling too frustrating.
I like the control idea a lot. I kept trying over and over with slightly different inputs, I really felt like I wanted to beat it. I managed to beat 2 levels finally.
Some suggestions:
- You should be able to reset an input page to all 0s with a single key
- .. and input values by keyboard, way more quicker (at least if you play by trial and error, like me..)
- The ability to look around the course could be nice
- Maybe have the overall speed a little higher? Full throttle should be a lot faster, but this is a minor point
And of course, sound effects would make the overall experience more rewarding I think.
Great game though o/
Cool!
I couldn't seem to pick up the key in level 3. I typed it, but it just repeated the room description.
Also, maybe it needs alternative verbs. Like "take key" should work too.
Very cool. Jumps need some "hang time" though probably.
Nice!
Getting sent back levels is annoying though. I already managed to beat the level, what's the point of doing it again because I couldn't beat a *later* level?
Cool idea though. Simple but nice graphics. Sound/music pretty good also. Overall quite good!
Well, I died. Pretty cool though! Nice graphics.
Very nice atmosphere. I die very quickly though and it's difficult to refill air. Controls are rather imprecise. Needs moody underwater sounds! Overall good job considering the focus on feel.
Pretty cool idea. However, you can just stand still in the same spot and fire continuously to get a whole bunch of kills.
Awesome! Great gameplay, graphics, platformer "feel". Music was so-so. Also, the intro was awesome.
Should hide and lock the mouse cursor while playing!
The tile/art style makes it very difficult to tell what's going on sometimes. I guess that's on purpose maybe. Pretty cool game though!
Spongy controls, dude gets stuck against the wall a lot. However, cool idea!
I keep dying a lot. It's cool though. Cursor movement is a little iffy.
Nice game. Cool, simple graphics. Coordinating between the 2d and 3d views is a little tricky. Maybe the 2d view should rotate when you rotate the views?
Pretty cool! Would play a lot better with variable jump height though, I think (release jump button to start falling).
Pretty nice idea. However, it never passed the first level although the dude was alive. Didn't see any dark guys to kill.
Cool!
Awesome art style.
A little slow paced - especially the construction, and it didn't have much noticable effect on my ship.. Or so I thought at least.
Sweet game. Awesome graphics (seriously!) and a nice way to present the sequence to be memorized. Maybe a slightly weak intepretation of the theme.
Needs AI runners! Cool though. "Loser" sound is a little grating.
Nice music.
Great graphics, great idea. Nice to see someone do another interpretation of the theme. Needs sound!
The Windows version has an .exe!
*HINT/SPOILER*
Some people seem to miss the tutorial sign which tells you that you can switch node types with the 1/2/3 keys.
Try that if you get stuck!
Type 2 isn't used in any of the levels though.
To the last commenter: You're right! I never got around to implementing any real levels, puzzles or real challenges. I definitely have some ideas for the future though. Thanks for playing!
The music can be muted with M!
Can't connect to the site hosting the web version.
Pretty nice. QWE is a weird control scheme though, should probably be WAD. Nice music.
404 for the web link.
Not sure what's going on. First I got a happy face, then a sad face. Well. Nice graphics though.
Oh, I tried it again. The first time, I came back to the 1st swimming scene after I just finished it. Now I got to the crawling part, but I don't know where to crawl. Can't even turn all the way in some directions.
Could be the start of a cool idea though.
Not sure what to do exactly? Sometimes I get points (rarely), but I don't really know how it's happening.
=/
Not much of a game to be honest, but pretty cool. However, drawing isn't very responsive always. Should be thicker than 1px too.
Way awesome graphic style. Sounds are bizarre and gives it an otherworldly feel (along with the graphics). Movement might feel a little spongy? But it's not bad. I think I might've liked a wider angle of view.
All in all, unsual and very cool! 4/5
Good controls, smooth music. I like it. Poor drowned kittens though :(
I am the ultimate thief!
Interesting, strange game. I'm afraid that even after reading the documentation, the mechanics of the game are pretty unclear. Also, the various block types(?) should probably have different colors, not just different hues, or it's tricky to tell them apart. Controls are nice, and the sound effects too.
Tricky. Cool though. Excellent "music".
Nicely executed idea which also fits perfectly with the plot. Got stuck on one level though, it's pretty tough. But it's good! Nice art style. Too bad there's no sound.
Nice game! I like the way the character moves. Pretty difficult though, maybe because I am terrible at it.
Sweet game. Sometimes clocks don't get generated for a long time, which makes it impossible to continue. Nice animation o/
A slightly unusual mechanic with the dropping of tools and having to remember where they are, which is very cool.
Controls are a little unfortunate - turning shouldn't immediately shift the direction you're going (Asteroids style) and makes it difficult to aim precisely while also avoiding enemies.
Graphical style is great and the sounds are very fitting. Music is alright.
I feel like the theme doesn't play a major part in the game.
Overall, very cool game. 4/5
Some additional thoughts:
- Reversing while turning makes the controls feel a lot more precise
- Also, the shooting feels really nice and weighty, which is rather very nice!
Pretty tricky. However, interesting mechanic. It's a little difficult planning how the duration will be affected. Nice, simple interface is good.
Very cool! Difficult to figure out though. I guess I didn't beat it? If that's possible. I tried a few times, everyone died.
Nice idea though, and effective graphics.
Strange indeed. Also, very difficult.
Cool game! Needs animations though. And the movement feels a little spongy.. maybe reduce the acceleration/deceleration time.
I don't know why, but I like the fact that you have to load the gun before you can fire the first time.
Overall it's nice, definitely keep working on it if you still want to.
Excellent game!
Some tricky puzzles towards the end.
I got stuck on Circumvention first, then I almost gave up on Quad Core, and and the last level was only slightly less tricky.
But I got it at last! Back to Earth!
Should replay for the bonus ending, bookmarked the page to remind me.
The background music is nice, but the sound effects can be a little grating. Not sure why, maybe they're much louder than the music? I dunno.
Overall 5/5 for a job well done!
PS: I couldn't open the zip in 7zip, got an error about unsupported compression or so. Worked with Windows' built in zip manager. Oh, and I replied to your comment on my game!
Awesome! Also I suck at it. But the game is great.
Graphical style = excellent.
Music is cool. Could do with some sound effects too though.
Maybe just one for when things catch fire, and a clicky one for the buttons.
Overall 5/5
Tricky game. Amazing atmosphere though! Music fits great, and just floating around in space feels great too. 5/5 in mood.
Very short, but the atmosphere is excellent. Great art style and palette, and the background music is a perfect fit.
Great mood. Effective graphics (although the characters are of suspiciously lower detail compared to the environment.. $__$), and great sound design.
The random thoughts (I guess?) that keep popping up constantly are very distracting though when trying to focus on reading the results of your actions.
Also, movement could definitely do with some pathfinding. Getting stuck all too easily on the edge of the bed, or when trying to go into the bathroom.
The writing is quite good though and pretty funny at times.
Overall 4/5
Very moody (in a good way). The graphics are awesome! Could definitely use some sound effects, though not too many. Maybe just footsteps. Music also fits perfectly.
Not a lot of gameplay I suppose. Also, I only got past the 4 door room once, and the new place I came to didn't (seem to) have an exit. I reloaded and couldn't get past the 4 doors again.
Overall, I give it 4/5 meows.
Pretty addictive game for being so simple! I played for quite a while.
Sound effects are curious. They don't get annoying though, which sound effects of this type often can (I find).
The game's a bit lacking in challenge, but clearly that can be improved in future versions.
Maybe bonus points for clearing a shape with fewer clicks, so you can sort of plan ahead, or some other kind of bonus/challenge that relates to how you cleared previous shapes or tiles.
Tenuous connection to theme maybe, I dunno.
Overall 4 hanzis out of 5!
Great game! Simple, but a lot of fun.
Dying is more hilarious than frustrating, especially if you accidentally boulder yourself. Monochrome graphics are cool.
Not much else to say! Overall 4/5!
PS: My game was made with libgdx too, and the web build wouldn't work either. argh!
This is excellent. Novel interface/input, great sounding music, also the watch + resetting is hilarious.
Overall 5/5!
Definitely needs a post compo version with more games!
The game is huge (in megabytes)! One music track alone is 45mb! Needs more compression. Didn't play yet, but I want to. Need to install XNA redist first, later.
Man, that floaty ghost thing is way too creepy
Highscore: 2.
.. :(
Very odd and interesting style for the .. ships? Space worms?
Pretty difficult, but it's cool. Nice sounds!
Great art! Nice details like the lamps getting smashed.
And that monster is creepy as shit, especially the climbing out animation.
Also, apparently it can walk through boxes and tables?
Really needs sound, but it still gets overall 5/5 just for the idea and style.
Basically what everyone else said.
After I got the bulldozer I had to drive way way back again just so I could push all the zombie corpses around.
Sound effects are subtle but add a nice touch, and the music's great.
Amazing! Overall 5/5.
Awesome art style!
Cool idea and nice art, audio.
Pretty cool.
I see comments about the audio, but I didn't hear any? Too bad.
I thought the speed was alright. I got to 3:48 the first time (numpad).
Very nice graphical style. Interesting gameplay idea.
Definitely could work as a mobile game.
Music is so-so.
Sweet.
Very relaxing scenario & soundtrack.
No challenge or real gameplay, but then again, it's not trying to be that kind of game, so that's cool.
The music's great, and swooshing around in the air is pretty nice. Clouds sometimes pop in/out which breaks immersion a bit. Same for balloons. It'd be even greater with that fixed.
Overall 4/5 for great mood!
Haha. Hilarious. Would be even more so with a little hopping sound. Hup hup hup hup hup
Simple graphics but they do the trick.
Pretty cool. Runs very smoothly which is great.
Also nice that you can tweak the generation settings from the menu. The lighting is also rather sweet.
A little difficult though.
Music sounds a bit like it's randomly generated.
@mtre and future commenters: you can hit enter to make the briefing screens fade out quicker!
Oops, mtrc. My bad!
Hm.. Awesome graphics!
Pretty nice, though rather difficult for reasons mentioned already.
Mostly that some feedback on where the next color blocks would help a great deal, and the physics need a little tweaking.
Also the spikes seem very unforgiving with regards to how close you can get to them before dying.
I like the background music a lot.
Great mood, great graphics, pretty good audio. Solid controls, except for the obvious gameplay mechanic ..
Jesus. That was really well written, and perfectly implemented.
Great mood setting with the music too.
5/5 in overall, theme and mood. Blech
*******************
***SPOILER ALERT***
*******************
Well, a mild spoiler at least. I thought something was wrong at the final choice, but after finishing, I guess it was designed that way. I think.
*******************
***SPOILER ALERT***
*******************
The intro is great! Game really needs variable jump height (ie depends on how long you hold the button) for a better platformer feel I think.
I like the application of the theme, in that you get to choose your own "only one" rather than it being static. I think the improved camera is my favorite, drives me crazy without it.
It's a pretty cool game though. The graphical style is nice too.
I give it 4/5!
Pretty nice. Could use variable jump height though, I think. Pretty unforgiving difficulty with the one hit death. Massive bonus points for reconfigurable controls though!
Crazy. Kind of moody, but gets tedious after a while.
I like the style though. Movement should be faster.
I got to a part where a bunch of beams light up in sequence as you activate them, and then I guess it ended, but the message was partially covered by the shadows so I only saw "sometimes you need".
What do I need?!
I see you listed Photoshop, Audacity and sfxr, but I didn't see any graphics or hear any audio in the game, so I dunno if that's a bug or on purpose.
Anyway, probably the best disembodied flashlight simulator this LD!
Great idea!
I got the idea of only having 1 dimension too, but I had no idea how that could be done in practice. This is excellent.
On the downside, it's extremely light on content, and a game like this *definitely* lacks immersion when there's no sound (footsteps, maybe bumping into things, maybe different ground surfaces).
If you don't make a version of this with sound, some's gonna have to.. *ahem
The graphical style is quite nice too, strong and simple.
Overall, I'd say 4/5 due to lack of sound, but full score for innovation and theme!
Overall 5/5? Sorry, you only get 1! Just kidding.
Amazing \o/
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
If it only had sound, it would be the perfect game!
Oh, and maybe press-and-hold to show the throw arc.
The first time I played the first level with a bat in it, I got all the first 3 enemies with a single throw. It was glorious.
I couldn't beat the level with all the bats attacking from above, although I tried about a million times. Still fun though.
The controls are very tight, and whenever you fail, it doesn't feel like it's the game's fault.
Overall a solid 5/5 despite the lack of audio.
Also bonus points for the amazing name, I wonder who came up with it?
Really detailed (graphics, menu mostly). Looks great.
Nice audio.
Needs preventDefault on keydown to prevent type-to-search in Firefox!
Overall a pretty sweet game.
Perfect retro mood. Excellent graphics, sound, design.. Pretty much all of it.
wat is happen
The weapon style is cool, music is pretty nice, and the wall menu is awesome. As noted by others though, a little light on content.
Hey, it's a lot like my game! (shameless: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-28/?action=preview&uid=26369)
Except not that close. But the basic idea is similar.
Pretty nice graphics. Where's the sound though?
Just great.
Cool graphics. Nice humor. The music is odd in that it's panned hard right, at least on my computer. It'd be nice if the dialogue bubbles could be insta-skipped so replays are less tedious. Shooting those guys is difficult :(
Very difficult game (to me, at least). It was fun though.
The sound effects are especially tasty, though very loud compared to the music.
When a level is complete, it'd be nice if you just clicked to advance instead of having to move your hand over to enter.
Sweet graphics, good controls. Could use a faster mouselook speed though (configurable perhaps).
Where's the theme though?
Overall 3/5 due to lack of connection to theme.
The most negative thing I can think of is that having to click 'move' and then the door every time is kind of tedious. It would be preferable to just click on each door directly.
And the music.. Maybe it's personal preference, but it seems quite repetitive, mostly due to the drum pattern. Something more low key would be nicer (in my opinion).
It would also be nice if you could see your attack/defense levels, not that it makes a practical difference I guess, but.. well, I can't explain that one.
Finally, I ran into a bug where I'd killed an enemy, but the battle menu was still up. So, I clicked attack again, and the menu disappeared and the regular one didn't come up, so I was stuck there.
Really good looking graphics, the enemy sprites in particular are pretty imaginative and unique, and the waking state room is nicely detailed.
The enemies moving down towards their health bar when healing like they're nudging it is a really nice touch, the kind of minor detail that really enhances a game I think.
Great!
Nice art style.
Music and sound could've been a little more quiet.
Many of the puzzles are a little too straight forward but..
Given the time frame, it's very nice.
Great mood, nice graphics and audio. Pretty meager though with content.. I really wanted to see that next room!
Graphics, audio, mood: 5/5.
As for gameplay, well.. you know.
The mood is really perfect though.
I feel like it tells some kind of story, or different possible stories, but without any kind of text or nothing.
It just has a certain feeling of purpose, or .. finality?
It's all very somber.
Just too bad it didn't go any further. I mean, as a kind of interactive experience it already stands on its own, but you cleary had some plans in mind.
Seems like no matter how fast I click on level 2 (I think?), I couldn't keep control(?) of the middle sphere. Needs more balancing maybe?
Music is alright. Graphics are great though.
Difficult to get a sense of what's around me in cyberspace what with the completely transparent walls, also I kinda got lost after going in and out of it a couple of times.
On the other hand, the wireframe style is a very cool idea. Maybe the walls could be semi-transparent in the same color as the wireframe pieces?
Also, the enemies react very quickly and sometimes you enter cyberspace and they're right there, so they can be a little tough.
Generally though, the idea of a sneaky fps + cyberspace Descent/Forsaken hybrid is very cool, could definitely turn into something excellent. The "directionless" movement is very cool.
The real world models are also quite nice, and I like the music.
The music's very nice.
Calming pace of gameplay.
Not sure how it relates to the theme.
It took me a long while to figure out the exact control mechanics, for two main reasons:
First, the planets are pulled towards the cursor, yet a line is shown between the planet and the little orbiting ship (this would make more sense if the controls were pull to/repel from the ship, and that would also make the ship's position a bigger element in gameplay rather than just "wait until I can move this planet").
Second: Puzzles start out with the planets having way too much momentum already towards.. the largest planet I assume? So some puzzles only give you about 2-3 seconds to get certain planets out of the way before you fail and have to start over.
For the very same reason, some early puzzles basically solve themselves with no player input.
Having a level select screen with previews is very nice, although it would be nicer still to see which levels I'd already beaten.
Finally, there's no visual or audible distinction between completing and failing a puzzle, though this isn't a major problem by any means.
The minimalistic sounds are quite nice, same goes for the graphical style. If the starting pace wasn't so high, it would be a great relaxing puzzler.
This might sound pretty negative, but my overall impression of the game is actually quite good.
Relaxing. And that sound, like those magnetic orb things clicking together. Maybe that's what it is? Could do with some smooth background music too.
What a strange thing. I like it.
The super low fi graphics are very charming on the train.
The controls don't really feel like a good fit for the larger maze-ish area.
Great combination of Unity and twine though!
Too bad there's no music.. or better yet, ambient sound would set the stage well I think.
The music is pretty obnoxious, but maybe it's just a matter of personal taste. It's also much louder than the sound effects.
The effects are alright though, and the graphics are nice.
The gameplay's cool but maybe it gets a little tiresome after a while. The fact that you have to turn if you don't wanna fall off is nice.
Needs to pick up the pace as time goes on. And the theme connection is so-so..
Other than those things, it's a small game that knows what its core idea is and thus executes it quite well.
The sounds are low key and I like that, and the music is quite good (reminds me of Hotline Miami). Too bad it doesn't loop. Maybe that's an oversight?
The graphics are nice too, not much to complain about there. Maybe they could change hue as the difficulty increases?
Attack is way too slow, it should hit quicker or reach farther out, and the enemies don't get knocked back it seems. I died quite a lot because fighting is very imprecise and jumping over them only works if there's 1 or maybe 2 not too close.
And there's a time limit? Why? It seems extremely counterintuitive in a game based around exploration.
I feel like a potentially great game got pulled down by these unfortunate weights. It seemed really promising at first.
I managed to get the double jump and the block breaking skills before giving up..
The graphics are really sweet though. Sounds are alright, the music is pretty nice. I also liked how the doors are faces and you hit them to open them. And that it saves your gained powers is very nice.
Oh, one more thing: on the starting screen, it wasn't really obvious that "attack" is also "enter world". Took me a while.
Having random worlds is nice, but I feel like these are way too big and empty, so there's a lot of walking with no sound or music to fill the time.
Didn't initially realize I could dig in the walls until I tried it randomly and noticed it worked.
Not much of a game (as you know).
But still oddly fun to play with. Definitely deserves to be expanded on!
I don't normally play games like this one, but seeing the little ships fly around and swinging around the orbits and such is really nice.
Notifications definitely need to be separated by category.
Most of the time I think you'd be much more interested in your monthly "statements" compared to how each and every pick up/drop off went.
And then, you know, obvious things: more ships. Maybe you can be at war with other systems? Trade and/or pirate their stuff! Other resources. Sound (menu bleeps and such) and some ambient music would really set the tone even more.
Keep working on it!
Really difficult. The scale's too small to control those little dudes. And I found it difficult to make sense of what exactly I was making happen (if anything) and what the different stations do. Also, it kept smashing my dudes in like 1 hit so sometimes I didn't even have time to do much.
The sounds are also a little too loud, and in particular the starting growly sounds are way too loud, and they cut eachother off which doesn't sound very good. The music's alright. Not sure about theme connection.
The graphics though are where this game really shines though (despite the control difficulties), they're very, very cool, 5/5 for them.
First time, I saved 134 souls and lost 8. And my final score is -28.. What? Not sure how it's calculated. Haha. It's a nice game though. Oftentimes I think games' UI get in the way, but in this time it's simple and responsive.
Not very deep gameplay though, could do with some more strategy.
I'll say 5/5 in humor, because of the random events and the pretty ridiculous (in a positive sense) boat upgrades. Something that might make it better would be an "unlock upgrade" button, so you start with just a boat, and then you upgrade to .. an orca?!
Would add an element of humorous surprise.
Second time I played though, a demon sunk my only boat before I had a chance to buy more, and the game didn't continue on from there or stop. Both times, I got the demon protection(?) offer right at the start, and it takes quite a while to get 30 gold..
Overall it's a nice entry though. Graphics are simple, but not ugly, and they get the point across. Sounds and music are good too.
Really cool idea and presentation.
Unfortunately, it's extremely complex and difficult to remember all the little roles and locations. I have to keep typing man every 3rd command, then crew, then systems, etc etc.
There's too much happening at once right in the beginning. It also seems like the roles are quite limited, like you can't send the technician to repair the navigation systems. And after a few days, the text that it prints telling me what's going on overflows the screen and there's no way to scroll I can find. If I hit enter, the screen is just cleared.
Too bad, because the idea has great potential, and the graphics are beautiful too. 5/5 for graphics and mood, despite the problems I mentioned.
Quite strange. Some of them were very tricky to figure out.
Nice sound effects!
Really, really nice graphics, save one thing: the enemies should be animated! The backgrounds are beautiful.
Could do with some sound too.
Found the gameplay not to be very varied. Again, sound effects could partially alleviate this problem, along with stuff like screenshake, flashing..
A little buggy though. The mouse handler seemed to prevent me from clicking the x on the tab for the game. I tried maximizing my browser, which caused me to lose some health for some reason, but then I could close the tab. After doing that, the Unity plugin crashed.
Money doesn't seem to decrease, nor does repair or refuel seem to do anything.
I like the control style and the game world in general, although I'd have liked it even more if you didn't have to continuously thrust to keep moving (we're in space, right?).
The music's nice though and the sound effects too. Also, the graphics are quite cool. I like the little item icons.
Cute graphics. Sounds too.
Kinda hectic, but at the same time it's a little simple.
I'd like to see some opportunity to strategize instead of just spamming the fire buttons constantly.
Maybe have friendlies (or powerup pickups?) to avoid shooting in only one of the worlds, or maybe increased bonuses for simultaneously killing enemies in both worlds.
Overall though, it's well executed. No annoying menus to wade through, unskippable intros, anything like that.
Getting into the game is quick, restarting on death is quick, and all this stuff is a big plus in my opinion.
Nice graphics.
Not sure why all the controls are on the keyboard in a way that makes you have both hands on there, but then you still need to use the mouse to advance dialogue.
Interesting. I like the art style and the character animations are pretty cool.
Some glitches though. At one point a sunflower seemed to be pushing me away into the tiles. And then.. I got stuck somewhere.
SPOILEEEERS !
Clavus: when you reach the large bottom area, there's another npc you should talk to in order to proceed, all the way on the left side.
Actually.. it seems I posted the wrong version :(
Pretty nice graphics, though the colors could be a little more vibrant maybe. Not very difficult. Nice background music.
A cool idea, but needs a lot more polish.
Mouselook speed is very, very low, and the perspective switching could be faster (make have it slow the first time to showcase the transition, then speed up all subsequent switches?).
Also, maybe I'm just slow, but I got stuck on the second level =/
I managed to get through the first barrier that closes when you hit the switch, but it felt like a glitch and I wasn't supposed to go straight through it (which I did). On the upside, I found an easter egg!
The tutorial messages on the walls were a nice touch. They're a lot like the ones in my first LD game actually (for LD 27), although I think mine weren't as well done.
Also, audio! Don't forget it!
Way, way too short.
Needs sound effects! Even just footstep sounds.
The graphics are ridiculously nice. I take it you spent most of the time on them? Well, I don't know..
The music's nice too, until it goes all dubstep. Not my cup of tea.
Not much else to say I think, given how short it is. Really a shame.
Hate to be the only negative person here, but.. This isn't a game, and only very barely an interactive experience, if at all. I get the theme connection, but it feels rather weak; you could do the exact same "experience" with a monologue on any given topic. I have nothing against short films, which is what I'd say this is, but I don't think LD is about making those.
The movement controls are really cool, gaining momentum and jumping to another little planetoid, I even managed to reach the smaller planet beyond the last giant one with some frantic thrust maneuvering.
Aiming on the other hand could really do with a makeover. I strongly suggest mouse control here. I killed several enemies by just standing off the edge of a planet and shooting over it, moving until the laser lined up. Standing nearby and aiming was kinda useless and got me killed quickly.
For some though, I ran until I gained enough velocity to jump straight up, so I was shooting at the enemy straight ahead, and that worked well and was a fun "discovery" of how to use the mechanics to my advantage.
The sounds are pretty good, but I feel the graphics are a little dull. The minimap and hud are nice, but there's something about the 3d models.. I don't know.
Overall though, this is a great entry and definitely worth expanding on.
I imagine more enemy variety, maybe new weapons (missiles affected by gravity too, perhaps?) and even some kind of jumping puzzles/challenges that take advantage of the planet physics you have going on.
Closes when I hit space too =/
Too bad, I really want to try this.
Had a hard time learning the different behaviours.
Game was too difficult at first with the initially slow movement, then after a few upgrades, spamming shots in a spiral got me quite a decent amount of points (700+) with no thinking required.
On the other hand, the bizarrely abstract graphics are really nice, the sounds quite good, and the background music is something else. Probably the best track I've heard this LD so far. Easily 5/5 for audio and mood.
The menu and upgrade screen are both nice and overall the whole thing feels quite polished. The game is extremely relaxing, and I don't mind saying it again, the music is just beautiful.
Movement is very, very fast. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, I think you get used to it.
You lose health very quickly and that makes it pretty difficult.
The scrolling tutorial text is kinda cool, but too long to be presented this way I think. Also, it disappears as soon as you stop moving. I think introducing elements more slowly, piece by piece, would be better.
The music is pretty nice, and the overall idea is cool.
Not much content.. And at one point I got to a new screen and there was nowhere to go, and I didn't get to bring my portal with me. Maybe that's the end?
I think it's a good start though. The platformer controls are quite solid, and the animations are nice.
Game likes to crash when I'm collecting.. the stuff? Like when you kill something. Speaking of which, I don't know exactly what's going on. I guess I'm just killing things and advancing. So, pretty sparse gameplay.
The game is beautiful though, sound and music fit well, and the overall mood is really nice.
I like how it says "the warp core connects us all" in between every single level, like a mantra or something.
Maybe it's minor but, it feels significant to me.
Like a hint at an overarching plot that's kind of hidden behind the scenes. I dunno.
The game name is ridiculously good.
The scrolling is probably too fast, and it doesn't help that the tile order doesn't seem to be consistent.. the first tile you place should be reset for each new column. At least one of these two things need to be tweaked to make the game more playable.
Also, the first time I got to world 2, the level was entirely flat and there was nothing to place, and it seemed to go on like that forever. Level loading bug?
The music's nice, starting the game and getting to the actual playing part is very fast, with a simple 1 screen tutorial, so that's good. The graphics are just too beautiful.
Pretty solid controls although the game's rather unforgiving at times. Maybe once you unlock the.. barrier things, they should stay unlocked even if you die, at least.
I like the bump sound when you land, and I also quite like the minimalistic aesthetic.
A big bonus is also that there's no nonsense, once you die it's immediate restart, no waiting around, no having to quit and restart the game, nothing like that.
Today I learned I'm not very good at sliding puzzles :(
Got stuck on the final green room puzzle.
I'm gonna play more later, still without hints, because this is just too damn interesting. But I think I've seen enough to give a very generous rating already.
Technically, it's very inventive, and I've still only seen part of what the connections might be (since the description implies there's more to it than the puzzle style of the green room).
Controls are solid, graphics are simple but get the job done, though animations are very well done. The music's alright, not too moody or catchy, but definitely not annoying or with any other specifically negative qualities. Details like the little dust you kick up is nice too.
Basically the only criticism I can come up with is that when you slide the pieces in Slide around very quickly, sometimes your cursor goes outside the window, and then it gets stuck in the dragging state, which is a little annoying. The window probably doesn't get mouseup events then, but I think the game should consider the mouse released if it leaves the window.
I can't criticize the puzzle difficulty because I feel like it's more a failing on my part than the game's (which in other words speaks in the game's favor).
Easily 5/5 in overall, innovation and theme.
Huh, an interesting little experiment.
I'm not sure much of the game was in there already when first published, but some of the writing is quite good.
I like music, and the interface is visually simple but appealing.
Could be quite cool with a bit more polish. The graphics are really nice.
The text with tasks, health and so on went off the edge of my screen so I couldn't always see the goal.
I think the field of view needs to be less narrow maybe (larger planets?).
Weapon sounds could have more impact and the background music should be a little more low key.
Not bad!
The graphics are simple but look nice.
I think the sound was alright, but extremely low?
The controls and movement are pretty solid, but I think I'd like to fall at a faster rate. Jumping upwards while being followed by enemies without them touching you is almost impossible, because you spend too landing on the next platform before you can jump again.
Could use a lot more polish, but it was already quite fun to play. Even though I kept accidentally switching worlds (should have a dedicated key, and you only need to switch firing type) I kept playing quite a while.
Initially I didn't even realize I could kill the enemies, but it felt great once I did. Some stuff you could add to make it feel more solid is some pushback on the player when firing, and on the enemies when they're hit, and maybe some camera shake along with those.
I spent a lot of time running around but couldn't quite find the exit/ending, if there is one, but I enjoyed the gameplay overall.
It's nice that you don't lose all the powers when you die.
The only major problem I already mentioned, that it's too easy to accidentally switch worlds and be forced to run all the way back again.
The movement speed's pretty nice, but the player's hitbox is way too big, you can easily kill enemies without ever getting too close. Also, hitting them should have some feedback (flashing sprite, knockback, something).
The graphics are so-so in execution but really nice with regards to imagination. The ambient background sound is a nice mood-setter too.
The game needs more sound effects too, I think. And sometimes when I used a healing potion, it seemed like I didn't actually gain any health.
Falls every so slightly short of being great due to some issues =/
Mostly the controls are a giant pain, they're not responsive enough. They seem to rely on ordinary key repeat, like when you're typing, but you're supposed to be controlling a ship.. They need to handle smoothly. Turning thus is too slow. But also, accelerating seems way too fast.
It's almost impossible to get any precision control over the ship, which would make the game a lot more fun I think.
Second, the planets' pull on the ship seems like it could be a lot weaker. This, combined with the above, would make more precisely engineered escapes from the planets possible.. I think (again).
Anyway. The graphics on the other hand are perfect for the job. And the idea overall is really nice. Just too bad about the 2 above things. Also, sound always makes a huge difference!
Strange setting, but cool.
Creepy enemies.
In one place there's something that looks like a switch, and some text comes up when you're near it, but it's behind the level and I can't seem to activate it. If that's supposed to be possible ..
And as high as I can go, all the way to the left, there's a gap that seems too wide, I tried double dashing but I can't get across.
I love how the shots come out of your..face?
Really cool art style and animations.
Kind of confusing, difficult to get an overview of what I'm doing or what I just did since all the menus and lists are the same white text just lined up.
I think the background is beautiful though, and the music is very moody (a good thing in this case). Not a bad start!
The idea is nice, but the execution has a number of problems..
The controls would probably work better if they were relative to the camera (w always goes up) rather than relative to the character (w goes forward). After you die you can still fire? And it seems like you can't move backwards and fire at the same time, not sure if that's on purpose, but combined with the control style, it makes it trickier to evade and fight enemies who are coming too close if you didn't manage to kill them at a range.
After closed the page, Firefox' plugin container crashed, and that's probably not good.. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but it's never with any other Unity web player game.
Needs a way to restart too.
I liked that you're flying around in a boat in space though, and that you have soap bubbles coming out of it.
Not a lot of different words.
Pretty fun though. Could definitely use some sound.
I got 71 \o/
Very moody. Felt increasingly claustrophobic =/ Both in a good and bad way. Actually it started feeling like a horror game where you expect something to happen constantly and it didn't go away immediately when I stopped playing. Can't explain why. Maybe the title reminded me of Justine (the Amnesia dlc thing).
Graphics are beautiful, music is very nice but also unnerving after a while.
Gameplay wise, pretty confusing. No idea where to go or what shifting the map around did. So I wandered around randomly for a while.. Found the first water thing, no idea how, then nothing more after that.
Also, mouselook speed could be a little lower. And not being able to look up/down probably doesn't help the feeling of being locked in.
Graphics and mood: 5/5.
Not much to do.. I think?
Pretty nice graphical style though.
Player controller definitely needs more work.
Made it!
I don't know if it was a bug, but after a few plays I only entered the hallucination once or twice, then I could walk freely to the end. Or maybe you enter it by some mechanic I didn't realize?
I like the 'comment' sounds, especially in the background of the party. Graphics are fine enough. Enemies could probably do with some behaviour that makes it easier to escape.. sometimes I'd shift worlds and they were closer to the nearest door than I was, so there was no way I was gonna make it. They're also too fast to kind of lure away and circle around.
Pretty short but definitely a good start.
I felt the puzzle wasn't too tricky to figure out, but also not too trivial. An appropriate first tutorial type of puzzle, or something like that. So there's definitely potential for expansion.
As I always say, sound would make a huge difference. Even simple ones!
As for the gameplay.. maybe the boxes shouldn't pick up momentum when you push them. Just have them stop dead when you stop pushing. And maybe make the player's hitbox a little smaller, it seemed like I pushed the box near the phone by accident too easily when going to switch worlds.
It wasn't a huge deal though, but it might affect more tricky puzzles you design in the future.
This is really cool.
Quick to pick up and play.
The sounds are simple but fit perfectly.
And the graphics, same there.
Some notes: When placing cells in a brain, I wish the spot I'm pointing at would be highlighted, because sometimes I was sure I'd place a cell in one spot only to have the cell end up next to it instead.
And maybe newly placed cells should be allowed to be removed (consider them 'committed' after one turn/only while paused) in case you misclick or change your mind.
Overall though, 4/5.
Man this is cool.
Not much to say about the gameplay, it's perfect.
Very short though, I see this being one of those games with a billion levels.
The trees and skyscrapers bouncing around when you move the piece is a nice touch. Some sound and/or music is always a nice touch, so it could do with that.
The controls you've listed on here seem reversed. It's left to drag, right for camera. Also, every time I release rmb the Unity menu pops up (web player version). Fortunately the puzzles can be solved without moving the camera.
By the way, you should mark your web links as Web (Unity), since it only works on Windows for the time being.
Menu could do with some work. Maybe a little screenshot of each level, and showing which ones have been completed.
Overall 4/5 though. Some tasteful audio would have made it 5/5 for me, given the kind of game it is.
I didn't personally care much for the TTS voice, and the fact that she talks a lot in the intro but there's very little text to go with it, and once it's done, you have to wait. It should read one or two lines at a time, and if you skip them, it'll also skip the voice for those lines as well.
The graphics are very nice, and the gameplay is cool, though I found it a little difficult to stay alive for any extended period of time.
Online leaderboard is a good idea too.
Nice idea. Pretty difficult to click so accurately.
Game over popup could've been drawn ingame instead.
Crazy.
A nice idea that deserves further expansion!
Maybe you could add some form of resource system, where along with exploding the ball, you'd also be potentially mining for resources? And then you'd use those to craft new stuff instead of buying it outright.
That way, you could for example imagine the player sacrificing 2 extra strokes to get the ball slightly out of the way, in order to reach a valuable material source, and then from there blowing it up while also getting the ball towards the goal. For this to make sense you'd also need to limit the radius around the ball where explosives can be placed.
This could lead to speedruns where optimal paths between holes and resource points and what to spend those points on are found, stuff like that.
Hm.. No idea at all what's going on. Also, no idea on the theme connection, except maybe an offhand comment by the bird thing?
Switching between the different states is a little funky, like I have to click 2 or 3 times every time, not sure why. Maybe so I can check out my snazzy creature before scouting some more?
On that note, the graphics are great, writing (what little there is) is good and the music is very nice. Interesting choice of aspect ratio too.
Instructions absolutely needed.
The game's pretty difficult, almost brutally so. You die very easily and sometimes getting past an enemy without touching it can be very difficult.
When I first got to the second level, I didn't realize I came back to the first one (I think?) afterwards, and since I saw two portals I just went left, which I guesss was back to the starting area, and the portal there didn't do anything.
So, I got stuck there.
I tried playing again but.. getting past those floating frying pan (?!) things is really too frustrating, even more so on the very first level.
The graphics are cool, they remind me a bit of old Win3.11 games or something like that. I like the character sprite a lot, although something's a little off with how the running animation loops..
Very difficult. Or maybe I'm just not good at this kind of game. I locked myself in at one point :( Maybe having a single step undo would be good. I managed to solve a few though.
It's a cool idea. The faces are pretty funny
The simple music is good at first, but the increasing pace towards the end is extremely maddening and I thought time was gonna run out or something. Really makes you nervous.
Constantly dragging is quite a pain, even more so with a lack of visual feedback. How about only dragging from a planet out to a part of the track you want to send ships along?
And it seems quite tough sometimes to keep hold of a planet.
I kept frantically trying to keep the third planet on the "final test" level, but eventually I chose to give up.
Both enemies have a much shorter path, and are constantly sending their ships over.. Maybe it's possible, but certainly not easy, and coupled with the constant dragging across half the screen, it's just too tedious.
On the upside, the music is quite catchy, and the sounds are fine. The graphics are beautiful, and I especially like the little portraits.
If the gameplay was more enjoyable I'd certainly look forward to seeing what new enemies might come up and what crazy alien looks they have.
I like the side view of the character rather than it being completely top down. I'm a little torn on how easily you die.
The main problem is that you're often killed by someone who's right infront of you, yet you can't see them..
And if you run out of shells, there's no way to replenish them. Maybe they should be respawning so you can look around and find some? Or make sure every enemy killed drops at least one set.
Otherwise it's not bad. Kind of tense, and the music works to sell it. I like the intro sequence.
Pretty simple, but quite polished for what it is.
Graphics are excellent, sounds are nice.
I like how the dinos move smoothly back and forth, and the fact that you have 2 of them is a nice touch.
I usually try to come up with some (constructive) criticism in my comments, but this game has quite a narrow scope and is very polished as I said, so I'm finding it difficult.
Having to move my hand back to the mouse to restart and then to the arrows again is kind of a drag I guess? But it's not really a huge thing.
The music is spot on, 5/5. And the fact that it goes silent on a planet and then comes back is a nice dynamic that somehow serves to reinforce its catchiness.
Thruster noise is excellent (so many games have no sound at all, but even the simplest ones can make a huge difference).
Landing at the right velocity is difficult, but I was never any good at that type of game anyway.. Maybe you could make it more lenient, but then score the player based on how gracefully they land (distance from center, velocity?)
It's a really nice twist on the concept.
A simple idea very well executed, overall very impressive.
Not much to complain about actually.
Maybe you could add more random "events" or opportunities, like maybe when you're at a planet, fares could appear by other pads, and you can go pick up multiple passengers with different destinations. Then the player would be thinking "let me just get this one last passenger.." and risk crashing for a better reward. Something like that.
Pretty humorous.
I like the wavy screen effect, and I definitely like the color mechanic.
The music is alright. Don't forget sound effects next time!
However, the controls aren't very solid. Acceleration is too slow and jumping isn't variable (release jump key to stop the jump). Also, you can glitch through blocks by jumping into them when they're transparent, then switch to the right world and you'll usually get pushed upwards. Maybe it's on purpose?
Some of the puzzles become more difficult than they need to be because of these control issues.
Overall though it's quite cool.
Controls could be more tight I think, it's very easy to accidentally fall off a ledge with just a slight key tap :(
And then you have to restart from the very beginning .. A bit tedious.
On the other hand, the graphics are amazing!
Why does receiving the red jar teleport me to (that place)? And why can't I leave? Seemed arbitrary.
Text is really, really tough to read, especially the green one. Could use a better font, and a higher contrast border around it. Also, clicking while the text is up should skip to the next sentence and not make the character walk, I think..
Anyway, really great besides the points above. Amazing achievement! Beautiful graphics, creepy atmosphere. Mood and graphics 5/5!
I only got endings #2 and #3 though :( Tried a few things but couldn't get the last one.
5/5 would bounce around in my bouncy vehicle again
Actually, pretty devoid of content, which is understandable given the time spent. Bouncing around in that van is pretty fun though.
Those loose physics would suck in anything like a racing game or some game where you can take damage or fail somehow, but in this game it's pretty fun.
Too bad there's no sound (engine, brake, falling/hitting stuff), would've made it more awesome. Had a real hard time making the platform drop to the second depot :(
Anyway, I like it!
Couldn't figure out how to make machines attack other enemies?
And on the second level I kept dying near the thing with electrical bolts. Oh well =/
Really nice graphics though, and the music is catchy. Just really silly overall, in a good way though.
Really awesome. After a while though, once you get the reaction skill necessary, it starts to feel pretty slow.
I only got up to 9 though :( I wanted to see if more cool things happen later, but.. it takes so long, even if it's not too difficult. Like, you start counting minutes instead of your score.
I don't have a good suggestion though for how to tweak it without ruining the gameplay already in place.
Anyway. Amazing graphics! Really great. Pretty good sound and music too. Simple idea that really works, besides the point above, which I nevertheless consider fairly minor.
Cool graphics. No sound :( (Could be terminal key tapping, beeps, sounds for using stuff, anything) Great writing! Overall really great. Just needs more stuff.. and sounds would be cool.
Minor nitpick: Using the human and then inspecting the street will still keep the human in the list, but the human is no longer present. And actually, there's more like that..
Great humor though!
Also:
The human appears to be heavily injured from repeated blows, as evidenced by the fact that it is either unconcious or dead.
And that your host is now covered in its blood.
>use human
Your host approaches the human and attempts to make conversation.
...
Your host successfully makes meaningless conversation with the human.
Your host feels good about its social skills.
..Well, alright then.
Not much to do.. it seems. Too bad =/ Walking speed is really, really slow.
Cool generation though, when I realized I could zoom out I was like woah. Graphics are quite simple, but not exactly ugly.
More stuff to do would be really cool.
Praise the sun \[T]/
Couldn't submit my score online =/ Pressing enter made nothing happen..
Really nice game, great graphics, easy to get into.
Very chaotic after a short while.
Played the HTML5 version.
Download link dead.. =/
Try mirroring on Google Drive. Or itch.io. Or something..
Moody. Really nice graphics.
Only managed to get the leg at the start..
Really poor air control, nearly impossible, and the total restart definitely doesn't help.
Too bad, it seems like a cool idea at first. Pretty nice graphics. Functional sounds. The music is alright, but doesn't really fit.. I think.
A good idea pulled down by difficult controls :(
Pretty nice.
The graphics could use some work (textures, animations), although the small details in the city are cool (like chimneys, some characters walking in the street).
I really like that each level is in the same area, and the camera just pans over.
However, the pan is really, really slow.. I think ~1 second would be enough.
Finally, it would be a cool twist if some of the levels didn't use the rooftop setting. Maybe you push some dudes into a landfill instead, or a pool? Or out the window of some office, I dunno.
Unless you already did that in later levels.. Unfortunately I'm not clever enough to finish all of them =/
Found a bug where I managed to walk up onto a higher platform, and then I couldn't leave. Several times actually, in different places.
Nice with the procedural generation though.
Short and sweet. Too bad there's no sound :( Movement speed could be faster, too.
Nice graphics!
Lack of sound is unfortunate. Really nice graphics though, especially the werewolf \o/
Liked the game. A bit slow in the long run, maybe. Really liked the scrolling conversation boxes. Great humor.
Difficult to hit things. Accidentally exited the level 5 seconds into the game. I guess leaving peacefully can be considered a success though.. Hmm.
Generally the controls were nice, but really hard to aim/hit anything, especially the little people.
Cute. Decent audio, if a bit loud (compared to most games), though my speakers have a volume control so that's not a real problem. What I really want now is an 8x8 pixel GTA type game.
Movement and (especially) driving speed could be faster.
Also, I only saw a single vision cone throughout the game, when I had about 2 seconds left on the clock.. Bug? Or maybe I was just really, really slow and that part doesn't come into play until later missions?
I will try more later.
Really amazing graphics though! 5/5 there.
I might be sounding negative, but I'm actually giving some pretty good scores to this one.
Good job!
Charming!
Not so good with feedback on what's happening though. The first few times I died, I thought it was just a bug where the game restarted prematurely. I mean like, twice, until I realized I'd been going for tanks and just died.
Fast restarts when you die is great. "Getting" the game is really quick, and it keeps you replaying for a long time.
Nice graphics. Decent sound. And probably one of the greatest game titles submitted! Overall a really cool game. My best score -> 99400
Got shot through a wall :(
Can't hear the humans which is too bad.
Nice graphical style. Could've used some more touches of color, but just as detail like the blood, would be nice.
The player doesn't capture the mouse cursor which is kind of annoying, although the fact that you don't need to click anyway makes it a bit better.
Pretty tense game.
Fantastic
Sort of repetitive gameplay, and easy to accidentally run away from all the plants and have nothing more to eat, but besides that
Great sounds, really great music, nice evolution mechanic with the changed graphics for each stage
Awesome puzzles.
Some are made trickier though by the fact that you can't see the whole level. On purpose or accidental?
Sometimes you just aren't sure what you did before to put the level in a certain state, so when restarting you kind of have to just memorize each and every step that seems ok so far. So, bit of trial and error, which isn't always fun ..
Other than that, the graphics are really nice, sounds are good, music is good, and the difficulty ramping is pretty good (besides the visibility issue). Definitely keep polishing it!
Great use of only two buttons for control!
Really nice, simple graphics, same for audio.
Kind of moody for a squid eating little red blobs.
Wasn't sure when the boost activates, although I managed to do it once..
The only real criticism/suggestion I have is that it's a shame that even if you manage to grab a creature after expending your last energy, you die. Maybe have a grace period that lets you live on even when your energy is gone (but with no control possible), in case you manage to replenish it with your final thrust.
The extremely low range of vision was kind of annoying, especially once I cleared out an area and didn't really know where to go next.
Kept missing many jumps where I figured I could go higher only because I couldn't plan the jumps required. Then I simply couldn't find a way out of my area so I just kept jumping randomly until I stumbled upon one with enemies and chests remaining.
Besides that I liked it though. The controls were awkward for a minute or two at the beginning, but then I got the hang of it and was able to move and fire at stuff more or less "with purpose," as in not jumping and shooting randomly but actually getting the result I intended with a specific sequence of inputs (hope that's not too technical or nonsensical).
One change I might recommend besides the visiblity is that if a chest is closer to you than an enemy, the enemy should be the selected target anyway. This is a little tricky in closed spaces otherwise. It wasn't a huge deal though, just something I noticed once or twice.
The graphics and music are suitably retro-ish, the sound effects are mostly good although I think the coin collecting sound was a little too abrasive. I'm nitpicking though just to give some criticism, overall it's a very nice game. I got some ~500 gold on my first play. Also got the boss I think? although I died pretty quick on that one.
Overall 4/5!
phew
Game was initially difficult to get into. Basically, nothing is clear in the beginning, but once you give it time, some viable (essential?) strategies become clear.
On my first playthrough, I died before I even realized where the seeds were (in hindsight it's "obvious" though). Second time didn't go well. Third time went alright, and fourth time really quite well.
Once you get into it, the gameplay is extremely hectic, which is fun, but there are some minor points which I think could be adressed to make the game even more enjoyable:
1. the tiles are extremely small. The graphics are really beautiful, but when you have to do stuff in specific places (plant, till, pick up) it's kind of a problem. I was basically just frantically left/right clicking in a tiny clump of items and hoping that I selected/used the right thing in the right place. It turned out well in the end though I suppose.
2. the carryable items are a little too similarly colored. Once or twice I actually lost an item among the rest, visually. Lose the gun and you're gonna have a bad time when you're being assaulted by multitudes of wild animals. It also turned out well in the end however, but I think this is the kind of thing where, if you mess up your playthrough for this reason, you don't feel like it's fair. Stopping to look around is often not an option in this game.
Also, while the music is nice, it doesn't really feel like "ingame" music.
So, besides that huge text up there, I actually feel (as usual) the game is great. Nice graphics, nice sounds, and there's something very satisfying about relatively deep gameplay (given the time constraints) based on simple rules (simple inputs, simple relationships between the items ingame).
Nice graphics, great idea. The music is good. Got a little too difficult for me with the vastly increased speed after 2 or 3 'screens'. The only real downside I'd say is the 'reload' sound which can become kind of grating after a while..
Great work!
Pretty nice, great idea, but I'd say the velocity at which you die is a little too sensitive. Maybe it's just me though..
Sounds effects could use some work, but the fact that you had them at all is good though! Pretty nice polish overall with the little details like screenshake, stretching etc.
Also the level graphics style is cool. Great job!
man, that is heavy
really depressing actually
mood 5/5
Anyway, I like it a lot. Surreal-ish, nice art style. The controls listed on the start screen weren't quite clear and it took me a while to realize what the point of pressing left was. Then I replayed though and observed everything.
The sound played as you progress is a little grating when you hear it over and over, is pretty much the only criticism I can think of. The rest is great. Nice ambience, art style, writing, all of it. Short and sweet (well, not so sweet, really..).
Nice idea, really well done voice work.
** MINOR SPOILERS INCLUDED **
A bit tricky with the limited aiming capabilities, although it wasn't a huge problem. Pretty light on content.
Beyond that, really nice graphics style. Very 90s, but I mean it in a good way. Great background drone, basic but moody and functional. Good sounds. Startup screen/output terminal was awesome.
I liked the twist with the visual system. I'd have liked to see a new game plus mode where you.. see things more clearly. Overall very nice!
Awesome!
Currently second place \o/ (586 or so)
Fluid, smooth controls, good speed progression, cool graphics, sounds are alright (definitely better than no sounds however). The music is good, but a little too dramatic and actiony for this game, maybe.
Overall really great job, 4/5, keep working on it!

:(
Game doesn't start.
Not so much fun when you trigger an 'ending,' and then you immediately skip it because you're still sort of pressing arrows. Also, starting over from the beginning every time was a bit of a chore when you tried going further, especially as the biking dude for example can often only be avoided at one specific point and then there's a huge cluster of characters right afterwards which can be hard to dodge if you aren't in the right place.
Besides that though, really nice art, great graphics, and amazing writing! Too bad there's no sound though :( A nice catchy background tune might make the repeated treks through the level a little more bearable.
5/5 humor and graphics for sure
Wish I had the components around to try this :(
Nice atmosphere!
My plants would often decay extremely quickly, too quick for me to save them sometimes :(
Other than that it was a nice, relaxing experience.
You should definitely keep working on this!
Just so you know.. when it says 'press a key to begin' or something along those lines, actually pressing 'A' does nothing, and it still says it's generating the world. So the first time I started the game, I left it running for a long time and then I got tired of waiting and quit. Yes, I'm not smart :(
Now I'm going to play for real though! Back soon with my comments.
Boom, found the treasure! Also built a self-sustaining turnip farm. Too bad I can't sell them :(
Really awesome game.
Let's start with the "negatives" though.. wait, are there any?
I think the energy use could be a *little* lower, but it's not really terrible. Found one strange behaviour/bug: If you build a raft diagonally, it can happen that you're unable to actually step onto the raft unless you build another one next it that you can walk onto straight.
The graphics are just beautiful. I wonder for how long I could play with the same palette though.. Maybe a future version could have seasons, each with their own palette?
The sounds are quite nice, never grating or repetitive, also they're pretty muted which lends a sort of dreamlike feeling to the whole thing.
The game is never frustrating or boring as long as you choose your goal wisely, I think. Like, start with just growing more turnips than you consume and save thorough exploring for later. It's quite nice.
Overall, Graphics, Mood all 5/5.
Tricky.. Got stuck in an elevator cube once =/
Haha, nice, but really short. I like the graphics. Writing is pretty funny. The only thing I'd complain about is the lack of sound. I'd suggest bfxr or something to get nice sounds quickly. Also, quick restarts when you die are very good.
I couldn't ever get past that first purple monster. I tried and tried and tried and tried. But I just couldn't do it. I think the timing of the quick tap run-and-jump is extremely difficult to learn. It's too bad, because the game was overall really nice :(
I like the graphics a lot, it's nice to see such tiny sprites but still on a huge area, and growing the island was fun (at first).
The dying sound is kind of too much to hear over and over, butthe rest of the sounds were nice and minimalistic. The music is really cool too!
Too bad you couldn't develop this more (you should after the jam though!), it's a really cool idea.
Since there's not much content, there isn't much to say I suppose.
Some ambient-ish background music would be cool, like something sci fi sounding.
The idea is great, and what's really nice is you can actually learn what to input for the thing you want to do relatively quickly (like quickly tapping out 001 101 for example) without having to consult the command list eventually, so I think this idea is really workable after more gameplay is added.
It was still quite fun to experiment with flying around even though there wasn't much else to do. Keep it up!
fantastic amazing outstanding
Really, really difficult. The ships come to attack you too quickly and it's no easy task defending yourself early on.
Later once you figure out a good starting build, it's still hard to tell what's going on at any given time.
Two things which would help a lot, I think, are 1) a more zoomed out view, as you can barely see all your rooms and where the attackers are after building a bit, 2) have the camera pan to a newly selected room (or not at all), instead of instantly centering, as it's quite disorienting when all the rooms are so similar.
Besides that though, I like the idea, the graphics are great generally speaking, the sound and ambient background music is all good.
First time I started the game, I couldn't click 'ok' after choosing grow. Second time I could only grow once, then 'ok' once again did not work. :(
Nice mood though!
Sometimes, birds come in off the side of the screen when it's too late to dodge them, which seems unfair :( Also, the hitboxes in general are rather unforgiving..
Otherwise it's a nice little game. Music is quite nice too!
Cool!
Obviously very limited, but I see you didn't have much time. Definitely a good start, don't give up on it!
Music could do with some work I think, and the theme connection is a bit weak..
But the art is really cool and the controls are smooth. Sound effects are good.
Actually, I see that you're climbing on these things which I suppose are growing. So that's cool!
Tricky gameplay, but nice. I like the sounds.
Ridiculously cool. Can't offer any real criticism on this. Music? I don't know.
I guess some of the rooms are quite dull/easy to pass, even after you've done some puzzles, there's rooms where you just jump to the door and that's it.
The sounds are nice, the graphics are simple but great, the mechanic is genius, etc etc
Really cool idea, I love it. However, it would be nice if it was really "memorize this shape" and not "find the cube."
Make more puzzles! It's great.
Nice game for less than a day, and for an ancient computer.
Really quite difficult (for me). I mixed up the action keys even after playing for a while.. and using the patch to get "my own" controls (i.e. what I would expect). The continue system is rather unforgiving.
On the plus side, the audio is nice, and the graphics are 5/5 as usual.
Seems like Unity WebGL builds still don't work in Firefox.. =/
Played in Chrome though.
The game could definitely stand to be faster. It's especially frustrating when you're detected and you want to replay the successful part of your playthrough quickly.
Once I got detected by a guard who had his back turned to me, and was on the other side of the map. I'm not sure what the rules are exactly (infinite line of sight? Why did the guard turn around when they were always walking in circles previously?).
There also seems to be an animation bug, where feeding will not play the actual animation until several seconds afterwards.
Some sound would make it a lot cooler, too.
Anyway, with all that said, it's a really nice idea which is just lacking some polish. The graphics and animations are great, the levels are well designed, and I really like the interaction details and how each level has a name, it really gives you a sense of place.
Nice graphics and audio, although it appears to cut out quite often until I reset the level. Level 9 is so hard even in the grid movement version :(
I especially liked the text you didn't forget to change.
It's a nice idea, and the graphics are sweet, but the controls are a little too stiff. Like, when you're transformed, even if you already did what you wanted to do (fly over something or float), you have to wait out the timeout before you turn back. Also, while an ice cube underwater, it's very tough to move left/right so you do a lot of floating, adjusting slightly, waiting, sinking, adjusting a bit more, float again and repeat.
Anyway, I think it's a solid idea that could do with some polish and become a nice little game. (audio audio audio)
Really difficult. I only passed stage 1 and 3. In stages 2 and 4 I can't seem to get anywhere with the plane mode, it just flips over immediately when I shift. Maybe I just don't get the right moment to do it.
The graphics are very cool though, the 2d/3d hybrid style is really clean.
Amazing!
Let's start with some short criticism (I have to try hard):
The ability to re-read previous notes would be very nice for those with short memories (like me).
But actually upon finishing the game, the only parts that gave me trouble were:
1. The very beginning, I just kind of walked around and missed the first text about the color and then I couldn't reread it; I restarted and it was fine
2. The graveyard part, which took maybe a few too many repeats to give me the note so at first I gave up and looked elsewhere; restarted here too to re-read the note, and got it then
I think in both these cases, just having the previous notes for reference would help.
The theme application is quite vague, I suppose, but at least you don't have "me too" game with the same obvious mechanics (my own included).
That's pretty much it. The rest is mostly just really good. It's well developed, has a start (figuring out the mechanics), middle (working through the puzzles) and end (well, sort of).
The art style is really nice, even without the pixely shader (which I do like though) I think it would look great. The music is definitely not bad, but maybe also doesn't stand out as exceptional. Some sound effects like when picking up items would be a nice bit of extra polish.
I really like the grid based movement with a free camera, it's like Myst meets Legend of Grimrock, and I do love how each "area" kind of morphs into existence as you move.
wuaaaaaaaahhhhhhhrnrhnrnhrnhrnhrr
5/5 would shave again
That keyboard repeat rate :(
Otherwise, neat and simple
A really great idea, but so-so execution. Maybe I'm mostly having troubles because I ran the web build.
It's unclear why I sometimes manage to grab up to 4-5 blocks, and sometimes only 1. Realizing too late (because you're over a pit) that you only moved one block and it's gonna drop and you've wasted it gets a bit old after a while.
Sometimes the little enemies that you can't drop blocks on would fall through the geometry and hit me.
I'd recommend composing some new background music ..
The graphics are quite nice though, and the general idea of the mechanic is a really, really cool one that could definitely be reused in a more polished game.
