I like the polarity idea.
I don't like it when z/x/c are used for controlling though, since z and y are switched on German keyboards.
Nice game nonetheless, albeit somewhat difficult.

You could've just updated to a more recent SFML 2 revision, the ATI bug has been fixed. Too bad, I'm not going to roll back my drivers to 10.10 just to play this...
That's what I was talking about, the latest snapshot. Works now. :)
Going to check it out right away.
I really liked this! Strangely addictive. How much? I saved 57 kittens. http://www.mrwonko.de/images/savethecats.png
I only stopped because I got stuck due to a bug where you can sometimes move & dig diagonally down:
http://www.mrwonko.de/images/savethecatsbug.png
still for multiple minutes the game kept running since the kittens I had already saved were still walking up. I don't know how far they had to go, but appearently it was pretty high. Which gave me an idea:
You should add stats. Once the player's lost, tell him how many blocks he digged, how much ore he found, how many ladders he placed, how deep underground he went and maybe make the camera pan up to the house, showing to the player how much he digged. Possibly calculate a score based on this.
Wow, I'm done writing this little review and the game is still running - that must've been a lot of cats. How long have I been playing - an hour? Looking at my last comment's time - yeah, almost an hour. Nice!
Oatmeal? Are you crazy?
Loved it!
You'll need the "OpenAL installer for Windows" from here: http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/Forms/AllItems.aspx
I'll add a note regarding that.
Thanks for the kind comments and sorry for not giving Linux more love - I built that on a whim when bored at uni, haven't booted into Ubuntu at home for quite a while...
As for 7zip - I just used that since I kinda like it without giving it much thought, didn't think anybody might have problems with it...
Regarding not explaining much - it's mostly a result of little time. I tried to build the levels around it, i.e. you first get a simple level and you need to understand the specific skill (i.e. wall jumping) to get past it, Portal-style. (Though more levels would've been nice.)
As for the insane difficulty - I didn't really notice that. That's why having others test the game is so important... Being pretty good at Super Meat Boy myself I might've overdone it, though I didn't want it to be too easy either - given enough time I might've made multiple "campaigns" of varying difficulty?
Very atmospheric - didn't find enough gold but managed to survive long enough to run out of air on my second try. :)
I suppose a different goal may make the game more fun to play (though I can't think of one) while keeping it moody. It has little replay value as it is. Still very good work though!
Hello fellow SFML user!
Nice game, though it gets pretty hard pretty quickly (I hate those quick black things, it's like fighting Aliens as a Marine in Aliens vs Predator all over again), especially if you don't find the new weapons in time. It is genuinely fun though. (Can you run out of ammo? At one point I couldn't shoot anymore...)
You're aware that the music you use in the 48h compo should be made by yourself during the 48h and not downloaded off Newgrounds? Maybe you should've used that time to add some bfxr sound effects instead.
Come to think about it - would you mind me forking this?
I think the camera is the biggest issue here - just keep the camera centered on the player instead of a "lazy camera".
The time pressure and shaking screen made it a little too hard for my liking, but it's a solid little game.
Story vanished too fast for me to read, would've appreciated a "start" button... Besides that, nice game. Gets repetitive after a while but is fun while it lasts. Plays well with gamepad.
"but is there something more "alone" than a person bouncing a fluorescent-green rubber ball in a dark room?" A person without a fluorescent-green rubber ball? :P
I didn't have a cursor, either.
Confirmed to run on Windows. Congratulations on your first finished game!
I suggest making the view a lot smaller, i.e. showing less things. It's really tiny as it is. And the gravity seems a tad high for my liking, you fall so very fast. It's mostly a matter of experimenting until it feels right, I suppose.
Worked on Windows for me. Funny idea! :D
Nice game! You may want to display the texts a little longer though, sometimes I got distracted looking at the room and the text vanished before I was done reading it, and once or twice it was too short even when I wasn't distracted.
Thanks for the nice comments. I've added the most important commands to the description. I'll consider finishing this once I've got some time, maybe at the end of the week.
The server is a little unreliable... Keep trying?
Catchy music, I like how it reflects your current stage! It's a bit frustrating when you don't quite finish your nest in time and have to wait for the whole loop to finish before you can move corpses again. Maybe base it on actions taken inside the game instead, like eating berry bushes in the first stage?
