LD19 — Discovery

Life on other planets by AbelToy 2010-12-21T22:13:00

Pretty good game. Minor annoyance: the ennemies are hard to kill, but not like in a hardcore game; the problem is that they hardly ever get hit by the oddly moving ray... Nice graphics, sadly no sound...

Where am I? by Benn 2010-12-22T11:25:00

Really great game ! I'm sad it was a bit short but using sounds and colors this way is just wonderfull ! Your game is pure awesomeness !

The Adventures of ASTROMAN! by Gobo 2010-12-21T19:18:00

I'm a fan of Lunar Lander-like games, and I must say this game is good ! The soundtrack sounds a little bit oldschool; it's a somehow repetitive, though. It's hard to control the ship, I'm sad that you have more chances to reach the objective by going really really fast and doing it again and again, than being careful about where to go... The objective seems to be finding wormholes, but it should be more clearly stated (stay on the screen). What's more, there should be a way to skip the intro sequence when you want to play multiple times (or provide a "play again" button). You could also have posted more messages to the LD blog. Overall, your game is quite good ! :)

The Day I Died by Cooshinator 2010-12-21T20:53:00

Quite hard, old concept but still, good game. Well done ! Not sure it really fits the theme, though.

Teleport Discover by Vladp995 2010-12-21T21:58:00

Well, I always run out of "energy", and seeing nothing at all is really no fun, although it fits the theme. It tried hard to find the altar, but I didn't succeed. :( There's no soundtrack, right ?

LD19 Planets by mjau 2010-12-22T10:20:00

I cannot run your game on WinXP, it crashes after a few seconds, without having displayed anything but an empty black window.

ancient codes by acidninja 2010-12-21T21:28:00

The game is good, but for me the concept is not new, and there is no real discovery going on here: just looking at the game a few seconds let you tell what you have to do. The soundtrack is really good, though.

Reflective Discovery by Fififox 2010-12-20T23:46:00

I'm gonna make an expansion pack soon for those who like the gameplay ! :)

And I uploaded a Windows build...

Discover - Collect - Profit by SpaceManiac 2010-12-21T22:03:00

Same here, no libpng12.dll !

Light Source by flashkick 2010-12-21T22:55:00

The concept is really interesting, the graphics look oldschool, overall a good game, although it's really hard to succeed... I cannot access your "journal", so put n/a in "community".

Run by Cosine 2010-12-22T11:12:00

Good game; a bit monotone though... but still a good game ! The audio from the slim version does not load, but I listened to it anyway. Great graphics (the gooey thing is aliased, but great overall) ! Good job !

The Detectorizer by danblack 2010-12-21T22:30:00

Well done ! The game is rather fun to play, but the point where the fun lies is escaping from the chasers (and sadly, it's easy to block them) and not in digging in itself, so I think you deviated a little bit from the original theme... The graphics are oldschool, but relying only on the sound is not that good in my opinion, and it makes impossible the use of music...

LD21 — Escape

Flee Buster by ChevyRay 2011-08-22T19:14:00

50 Tokens! The concept and the execution are so good that I can't stop from retrying. What's more, it fits the theme perfectly, and in an innovative way by playing multiple fun games at the same time. The graphics are awesome, the sound effects are good (the game might have benefited from a chiptune background music). ChevyRay's journal has only one post, which is sad, but it's nothing compared to the fun of the games.

McPixel by Sos 2011-08-23T11:11:00

Really cool game, and 6 levels are enough as the multiple endings are awesome \o/ ! Nice pixel art, and nice music! I laughed a lot, and the final ending is... well... surprising ! :P

Escape from Ludum Dare by AbelToy 2011-08-23T10:39:00

Those games were fun, with nice graphics :P . Sadly the game bugged a little for me (Flash on Linux...) and forced me to play a few levels I had already won, and validated one I hadn't. Anyway, some levels were a bit too hard, but still fun (wall of doom...). Nice entry!

Pressure by varun 2011-08-22T18:07:00

This could have been truly entertaining, if only it had been longer.

Bounce-onium! by McFunkypants 2011-08-24T21:17:00

To be honest, I didn't like your game... I don't exactly know why, but some things come to my mind: the same level can either be too easy or too hard, just because I have the chance to aim correctly without the physics preventing me to do what I want or because the mouse bounces off everything at a high speed; what's more, the number of level is not enough (well, it could have been if there had been something that really changed between them, I don't know...) and the last level looping forever is no fun. Moreover, the game can actually play and win by itself, mainly because the is no way to lose (it seems you changed that on your post-compo version, which I believe is a good thing) ! I don't find the game in its LD48 state very innovative as it's just some variation of pinball with a reduced set of possible interactions, and the theme Escape just seems not to be there because there's no way you could fail to escape as said above... The graphics give me a mixed feeling as they are both colorful and grey, which kind of means both happy and sad to me: the sad grey part is just too serious compared to the cat/mouse story which made me smile. The sound is quite good, a background music would maybe have helped to keep my attention on the game though (a dynamic music would have encouraged me to keep playing and not let the mouse do its thing alone, which also comes from the little control you have on the game).

I give you a four start community rating mainly because of your huge implication in the whole Ludum Dare event, but not five because you didn't really post much related to your game during the compo: an "engine done" and a "game finished" message are not sufficient in my opinion. You could have made bigger progress reports with development screenshots (you only posted one) and maybe a timelapse.

Nevertheless, you made a playable game and that's already something which deserves respect !

If I missed something which seems important to you and may affect the way I rated your game, do not hesitate to tell me as I don't like giving LD games a bad score, in particular when they don't deserve it. If you found my message rude, that wasn't my goal as I hate nothing more than comments which don't help to make things better.

PS: I think that the post-compo version with spikes, lava and stuff like that must be much better than this but sadly for you that's not what we have to rate here...

Another Escape From Self Replicating Bugs 2 by Spunkmeyer 2011-08-22T17:02:00

AEFSRB2 is an enjoyable game which misses a reliable gun (bugs do not always die when hit too rapidly) and a better difficulty curve (first levels easy and last really hard). Maybe the levels should have been linked with the map (they could therefore have been adapted to help the player when needed), nevertheless it's a good shooting game and the online scoreboard (quite empty at the moment) is something other games should have too ! The graphics/sounds aren't very good but that's enough for such a game; a background music/rythm would make the game more entertaining though. The author's journal is filled with comments and food, which we all appreciate. Cool LD entry, which might benefit from some more polish ! :P

Bunnies, Back Into Your Cage! by ratking 2011-08-24T16:59:00

Your game is really fun (but it would me more if the controls had been better), the graphics are great (love the bunnies :P ), and the sound/music is quite good too. I liked your game a lot, but I was a bit disappointed by your journal: at first I saw that you have written a postmortem, which is great, but during LD you didn't write any progress report, only "I'm in" and "I'm done"... Anyway, your entry is above the average level: great job!

Viral by torokokill 2011-08-24T16:50:00

That's an interesting game which I enjoyed playing and which reminded me of pacman: you did a good job for your first LD ! :) As you said, the graphics aren't really the best, but the sound/music does its job. Maybe multiple levels would have been appreciable. It's great that you took time to write progress reports and also a postmortem (try to make a timelapse next time too) !

Ernest the Plump Adventurer (in trouble) by agersant 2011-08-24T22:33:00

Awesome game! I've had much fun while playing (which sometimes felt like torture due to slow respawn time... :P ) and your game really fits the theme to perfection. This is a good platformer you(ve got there, with a balloon cuz that's cool, nice graphics and really good music ! I liked the comments in each level (there were a lot of them btw) title screen. Maybe you should have written progress report during the compo rather than that huge postmortem, but that's nothing to worry about ! Next time, you might want to post a timelapse to add awesomeness.

To sum that up: outstanding entry !

The Cell by kevglass 2011-08-23T09:57:00

That's a good game! The idea was interesting and has been well executed, the graphics are nice (toilets :D ) and the sounds are good, and there's even a background music! kevglass' journal is well filled, cool! That's an outstanding entry!

LD22 — Alone

Out by kosinus 2012-01-08T13:30:00

So short! The game is promising, you could make something really fun with that! But it doesn't really match the theme. Too bad there wasn't sound either. The graphics are good though! Try posting more on the blog next time too !

Desert Adventure (with Kittens) by Fififox 2011-12-20T17:20:00

Yeah, sorry for the few mistakes, I hadn't uploaded the latest zip because I was switching to Dropbox to have a "Web" version ! There shouldn't be mistakes in that one.

Beat the Dragon by Gear 2012-01-09T18:58:00

Waaaaay to difficult; other than that: quality graphics, good sound effects. Some epic music would give the game more mood, but I can't expect that from an LD game. Good entry!

/follow by 01101101 2011-12-21T11:20:00

That game is sooo nice and the music is great ! Fits the theme perfectly and the game mechanics are good, congrats!

EpiCat by Jacic 2012-01-08T13:59:00

Good entry! Kittens give you bonus points :P ! Not an innovative game, but fun to play (the game flickers for me though, but the game is still playable). Music would have given the game more mood, but the sound effects are enough for an LD game ! Good job: you've got a good journal too !

Craequ by Jonathan Whiting 2011-12-22T23:54:00

Nice game, with puzzles that are easy-enough not to spend hours on, but which still require a few seconds of thought before being solved. I'm not very satisfied with the ending: I was expecting more from this otherwise very polished game! Nevertheless, I enjoyed playing it, well done!

'malone? by Norgg 2012-01-08T14:12:00

Your game doesn't run on the latest Chromium for Linux, it crashes whenever I click or press a key...

alone I art by Make A Game 2012-01-08T15:08:00

Great game, with awesome art and music ! The map is a bit too big and going back and forth to the door is a bit repetitive but the game is still really fun to play ! Congrats on writing the journal, the post-mortem, taking photos and making a gameplay video!

Separation Anxiety by TaintedFork 2011-12-20T19:19:00

That's a nice game with nice mechanics, and a nice little story. I would have liked more levels, but that's usual for LD games not to have 100 levels. :P
Also, I couldn't find Kittens in it, even after playing the game twice !

LD23 — Tiny World

Recluse by chambers 2012-05-13T20:51:00

Great concept, I liked it a lot! (But please disable the window autocentering because it fails horribly on dual screen: the window is cut in half with one side on one screen and the other on the other screen...)

Tiny Maze by Fififox 2012-04-28T13:22:00

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments!
I'll try to play and rate all your games! :D

LD24 — Evolution

Curse of Hardai by Incredible Ape 2012-08-29T18:06:00

The controls feel good, the graphics are nice. The level creation algorithm is a good idea but the levels are too similar imho.
But it's a nice game overall!

Psychiatric Evaluation by ConflictiveLabs 2012-08-29T19:15:00

It's a brilliant idea to mix genres like that. I didn't like the graphics a lot, but the music was good and has a mood related to the game! The gameplay fits the theme perfectly anyway, so good job there!

Rise of a Colony by Folis 2012-08-27T20:23:00

Neat game with good graphics! Longer would have been better, but since you didn't have the full 48h, it's pretty good!

Convolution by Fififox 2012-08-27T19:41:00

Thanks for trying! It's normal that the Linux version doesn't work on Mac, but be sure that'll I'll manage to get all platforms compiled today or tomorrow (I don't have a Mac but I'm sure someone on IRC has one) ! ;)

Convolution by Fififox 2012-08-29T17:33:00

I've spent a whole day trying to fix the Windows version, and had to ask someone to do it after all (GCC bugs breaking my game, and old Windows machine, which makes things worse)...
Sorry for those who still can't play the it.
I'm also looking for someone to build a MacOS version, since I'm not a Mac owner.

I might do a gameplay video if I find the time!

Thanks for playing (or trying to) to everyone !
I'll try to play, rate and comment all your games!

The Balance by mr_Hk_ 2012-08-27T23:47:00

Really beautiful and nice music!

Hortus by amodo 2012-08-29T18:47:00

Nice graphics and good background music! It's not the kind of game I have a lot of fun playing. Still, I like it thanks to its calm and relaxing mood... Good job on the GA too! :)

LD25 — You are the Villain

Dr.Bad's Doomsday Rocket! by bigfatgamer 2013-01-04T22:45:00

Good concept.
But the game itself is a bit slow (and behaves weird sometimes too) though.

PushTheHeroBack by RedCoder 2013-01-04T22:35:00

I don't really get it, but you made something, that's already a big step in the right direction! Peace. :)

Black Licorice by swinestudios 2013-01-04T22:24:00

I like that game! Great mood too.
The only point that annoys me is that the background is a bit distracting, but that's not a big issue.

Good humor :D

G.O.A.T. by ChainedLupine 2012-12-28T13:16:00

Fun game, too bad you didn't have more time to make it have proper goals... :)

Missile Mission by Imperiopolis 2013-01-04T22:18:00

Damn, it speeds up really fast!
Too bad I can't live for more than 30-50 points, I like the gameplay.
Good entry that needs some tweaks.

Greed by Tate 2013-01-04T22:12:00

Very basic but neat little game.

Think about putting a README file telling people to press enter... it wasn't obvious and I nearly thought the game had a bug which caused it not to get past the start screen. ;)

They All Fall Down by Fififox 2012-12-17T19:14:00

Thanks for the positive feedback!

SaintHeiser: Sorry about the short and "not as good as it could have been" audio, but my laptop's soundcard died after after my first tries at making a soundtrack... That laptop is 10 years old; I'm happy it hasn't died completely. :O
I'm gonna add that as a note in the description...

They All Fall Down by Fififox 2012-12-30T16:42:00

Thanks everyone :D

LD26 — Minimalism

BLOB by Kvisle 2013-04-29T19:01:00

Couldn't get past the split-blob level, but it's a really good game! Congrats!

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Flajora's Flask by Cosmologicon 2013-08-29T23:16:00

Best game I've played yet, really has a lot of depth to it, and I love everything: the game (with the walkthrough), the story, the references, the art and the music!
A big 5 out of 5, congrats!

Dave's Marvelously Mediocre Game by OddballDave 2013-08-29T13:09:00

Simple yet fun!

10 Second Tower Defense by BenW 2013-08-29T15:47:00

Very good entry! Both fun, long and aesthetically pleasing.
I got far into the game using only quick turrets at max damage, but got stuck in the end at the 2-shaped level! (add a skip button maybe?)

Robby by Morusque 2013-08-31T15:16:00

Hahaha, the view is pretty cool up there indeed!
Awesome game! Congrats, you rock!

Lodestar by folmerkelly 2013-08-29T22:36:00

Really awesome graphics!
Glad to see some #LDTD action! This free-form tower defense surprised me at first but it's a really neat system in the end!
Congrats on a very good entry! :)

Streaker 2013 by ashdnazg 2013-08-30T11:54:00

Funny little game! Especially loved the very small pixel art and the security jumping on you. :D

Reactor madness! by sebb 2013-08-30T10:32:00

Solid entry, pretty fun and with nice graphics and good camera movement / shaking.

Labyten by rejome 2013-08-31T14:41:00

Very simple concept but fun game!
Got to level 87, and still couldn't afford the last 100k$ skills, though. http://i.imgur.com/xb9dthU.png
I like how the music changes often.
Thanks for the Linux 64 version, too!

Popping Bubbles by Fififox 2013-08-29T11:26:00

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and suggestions!
The game has been updated post-compo with multi-touch support! :)
Have fun!

Popping Bubbles by Fififox 2013-08-29T18:06:00

You can play the game on desktop, but it's a different experience from the tablet version, since the desktop version is more about finding the last bubble and slowing it down rather than the action-packed "slow down all the bubbles" game it is on tablet.
The funny thing is that I don't own a tablet myself! :D

Regarding the repetitiveness, it comes from my lack of time to implement any kind of difficulty change between rounds, as Ciaran54 guessed, so it's pretty much only based on the randomness of the bubble distribution.

I am pondering over making a full-blown post-compo version, so if you have more suggestions, please tell me! :)

Thanks for playing everyone!

Popping Bubbles by Fififox 2013-08-29T23:51:00

Thanks for the feedback Andrew, I might do that for the upcoming October Challenge!

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Regarding the freezes, I work with Chromium on Linux 64bit, but since I only use standard APIs, the game should work in Firefox too. It's probably just a matter of hardware-acceleration (which is lacking a bit on Firefox for Linux, from what I've experienced).

Popping Bubbles by Fififox 2013-09-08T21:02:00

Those comments make me sooo happy! :)

ToTheRescue by SaiKai 2013-08-29T22:56:00

Inventive use of the theme, with solid graphics, very good music and humorous dialogs.

10 seconds of hell! by djdduty 2013-08-29T23:43:00

I had fun playing it, even if it gets repetitive after a few minutes!
The old-school graphics work well, too. :)

10 Seconds Minigames by FrozenCow 2013-08-29T13:31:00

It was really fun, played with five to ten people! :D

LD46 — Keep it alive

A Day in Granple-Bee's Garden by Togimaro 2020-05-08T13:23:59Z

Such a lovely game, it hits that sweet spot of being relaxing and yet not letting you rest too long. The dialogs / backstory are funny and the peaceful guitar is a really nice touch.

Insect Infestation by schizoid2k 2020-05-09T01:20:44Z

"Oh no, ants!"

I liked that the ants targeted the lawnmower instead of the house but still ended up going there (by trying to go through it). Also, the amount of bugs escalated quickly haha, first wave was nada, a few waves later I could barely seen the grass anymore. x)

Simple & fun!

Circuit Break[out] by smilewood 2020-05-09T01:27:57Z

Nice game! It took me a minute to understand what I was supposed to do but after that no problem. The difficulty ramps up in a fun and challenging way. Nice graphics too! Well done. :)

Nightfall Sigil Gray Shield by kuro 2020-05-12T03:13:53Z

Same problem here, SSL warning, then 404 if I accept.

Flowers for Johnny by goffmog 2020-05-08T22:32:07Z

Interesting take on the game of life! I liked the graphics, pretty flowers are always a nice touch! The music was good too, adding few sound effects would have been great. For the gameplay, I've had to think hard to remember how to draw a glider and so on, that made the experience a bit less fun but there's no way to avoid that since it's based on the game of life after all. Overall, interesting idea and good execution!

Keep Away by infinitycore 2020-05-12T03:11:07Z

Haha the music! and the feet! Interesting concept to have to get out of the keep, do some stuff and come back. A bit hard to control at first but you learn over time. The scale of the various elements makes it a bit hard to see what's going on sometimes, but that's not a big deal. Good job!

Feed the Machine by DeathStorm 2020-05-12T03:28:59Z

The long tutorial makes the game a bit hard to understand when really it's quite simple to understand once you start playing haha. A bit more feedback when performing actions would help understand what's going on (am I pressing the right button? am I actually doing something or should I go to another machine? has something exploded somewhere that I didn't hear?). To me that's been the main problem, but I still kept playing so I guess it's not too big a deal. :)

Keep your Distance by teamIndot 2020-05-08T14:06:55Z

Haha the mandatory virus game, well done!

Two notes: as others said, the aim controls are slightly oversensitive, and the % indicator at the top is a bit hard to see/understand at first, but that's not too bad :)

Adrift by cdunham 2020-05-08T22:18:26Z

Fun game! The various mechanics introduced progressively are fun. The music is nice and not annoying. Two things though: there's something weird about the speed of the ship when you run out of fuel, it suddenly slows down a lot instead of gliding, and the button you have to click to restart instead of a keyboard mapping is slightly annoying. But altogether it's a solid entry you have there!!

Cloudy With A Chance Of Pain by ProdigalSon 2020-05-09T02:50:22Z

You win! It's fun and really well polished, the visuals & audio are top notch, the gameplay is simple to understand yet challenging. Excellent job!! It's an awesome game you've got there! :star:

Loved the video of streamers playing it too, it gave me a good laugh!

Also, cute animals!!

MandaTrouble by mineiwik 2020-05-08T21:55:59Z

Nice idea to have to protect an NPC that just walks around, it makes things unpredictable. You get swarmed a bit at the beginning but once you upgrade a few turrets you're good. Having to go gather resources adds good challenge!

Johnny The Stupid Electron by Collin Thompson 2020-05-12T03:45:55Z

Interesting concept. I had some trouble finding how to get past level 1 though, not sure if it's just that I didn't manage to survive long enough? Maybe. The controls are rather intuitive. It could be useful to use more different colors for the elements on screen to more easily distinguish them when things are moving, but that's a small detail. (Small note: the sound effects are a bit aggressive.)

Raid on LudumBay by gamedevkng 2020-05-12T03:01:28Z

Nice game! Impressive amount of work, event for a jam entry. As others have said before, the controls are a bit confusing, and the isometric view definitely shouldn't be the default, since it's almost impossible to control the helicopter by looking at it (and I didn't notice you could swap them at first, so I ended up playing a few games by only looking at the small secondary view lol). The difficulty level is a bit high (not unusual since you're probably good at your own game so it's hard to judge) but that ends up limiting the amount of content you discover. Maybe introducing the various elements over different levels would help make that smoother. But I'm nitpicking, you've done a good job! :)

Spark Of Imagination! by Magnanix 2020-05-09T02:29:58Z

Love the spoken narrative! The game itself was a bit hard, the attacks didn't really seem to work, and it was a bit hard to move around correctly (oversensitive to mouse movement + unexpected automatic rotation of the character). But the graphics & animations were nice (quite unexpected for an LD game, it was a pleasant surprise!), and again I loved the whole backstory and things like the game over screen text. Good job, nice entry overall!

Defend The Crystal by Da1amus 2020-05-12T03:52:13Z

The graphics are really nice, I just wish the attacks actually killed the enemies, because the game is already quite fun to watch!

CAMPFIRE by PROJECTaroid 2020-05-09T01:42:01Z

Simple but really well polished game. It goes to show that with a simple concept you can make something really enjoyable, relaxing and still slightly challenging. Loved the whole mood, great graphics, nice music, neat visual&sound effects. Really cool!

Protect the Queen! by Clipper 2020-05-09T01:59:36Z

Really enjoyed playing the game. I found a winning strategy on my first try and ended up with 400+ honey in the bank and not a single ant on the board haha.

Untitled Mouse Game by Binney 2020-05-08T23:33:55Z

Loooooove it! The best game I've played so far, love the artwork, the music, and the concept! :star:

Peaceful game, easy to understand and challenging to play. Sometimes it's a bit hard to see what's going on / too late to do something. Nice simple graphics. :)

Level 22 / Score 235 woohoo. :D Really fun game, very easy to understand and play, but challenging and addictive (I couldn't stop playing!) There's a small bug where at the end you have enemies so close that you can't actually hit them anymore (then you lose of course when one of them advances). Great job! The watermelon slices made me laugh at the end :)

"THE" ice cream game by nickw22 2020-05-09T02:12:21Z

Interesting concept, reminds me a bit of Overcooked. Since I played alone, it was missing a little something to add some challenge, like a timer or something like that, but I guess it's more meant for local multiplayer. :)

Thanks for the kind comments everyone, it means a lot! I'm glad you all enjoy the graphics, I really aimed for that retro vibe to the point where I didn't leave myself enough time for many of the gameplay elements I had planned haha. I hadn't done any 3D work in years so I spent quite some time on the car. The source is a single TS file (send help) without any game engine so that's why some of you noticed the collisions don't exactly match the shapes, I've taken some shortcuts on the physics side. ^^

@hlo-world The camera is the thing I'm most satisfied with, so your comment makes me especially happy!

@cdunham Thanks for the feedback. It's actually the physics inside the game that are slightly wrong and different from the 3D mesh (everything is sphere-based for simplicity). It's a bit frustrating to know you've avoided the obstacle and still lose due to it, I know... On the other hand it sometimes forgives you for things that should have killed you. :p

@prodigalson The level is generated randomly, which explains some edge cases like a building exploding right on top of you. I intended to make the boulders spawn further in front so you could plan ahead but I didn't find the time to do it. Regardind the shadows, I actually spent an hour or two trying to make them work but Three.js was not cooperating, so I ended up having to scrap them, but it was something I definitely wanted to have! Thanks for the feedback on the controls, I kind of assumed arrow keys would be fine for everyone but you're not the only one asked for WASD. I'll take that into account next time.

Simple and fun! I wish the pointer was locked to the game area to avoid going offscreen and allow faster reactions. The fast laser beams are surprising and fun! Some sound effects would be a really nice addition. Cool entry :)
