Hi, github didn't allow direct download a so big file. You should make a release~
Good night :D

puzzlem00n 2013-08-26 03:12

Yeah, you need to put it on dropbox or something. I'll download the whole source zip then get the love out for now. =)

terrabyte 2013-08-26 08:35

The links are fixed now! Sorry for the trouble :P

janmavzla 2013-08-26 09:11

It's a pretty hectic game, it was really fun.
I had trouble remembering the atoms combinations and recognizing stuff, but it was a good experience anyways :)

littlethor 2013-08-26 09:15

Nice audio! need more feedback to be clear, we don't understand at the beginning. And ... loved the "love" thing

nek 2013-08-26 09:26

I have problems remembering the combos but otherwise it's a solid and fun entry.

krides 2013-08-26 10:09

Oooh. So this is essentially Trackmania in 2D. Love it! Works fine on my Mac, but the character spawned in a wall in one of the levels once I died. Overall good experience though! Love the fact that you included a level editor.

morgawr 2013-08-26 10:24

Amazing game, I didn't care about all the atoms combinations, I just mashed 1-2-3-4-whatever until stuff happened on screen... and it worked!

I had lots of fun playing this game. Also as a fellow Linux developer, keep up the good stuff! Linux strong!

doonay21 2013-08-26 11:05

I always loved 8-bit-like-games. The music restarts every time i "die" - it is a bit annoying.

jhelle 2013-08-26 11:09

Enjoyed it a lot. Tense music and interesting gameplay. It ran fine on my windows xp. Tried spamming 1,2,3,4 to get through levels but then it gave me and error 122 message.

Anyway, good job :)

josefnpat 2013-08-26 11:10

Very cool game.

I started bashing keys at level 6ish, and this happend: http://i.imgur.com/y35EIfV.png

But i like the idea!

motty 2013-08-26 11:21

I rather enjoyed this even though I couldn't get it running properly (old version of Linux, old version of Love, can't get latest Love to install...) - mark of a good game is that I was still enjoying it despite the glitches. Hope to get it running properly soon :)

levsha128 2013-08-26 11:52

linux \m/

kddekadenz 2013-08-26 12:00

It crashed after the 5th level or so (sorry, I did quit the game before reading the error log). Pretty interesting art style and concept!

terrabyte 2013-08-26 12:05

Wow, thank you for all the super-nice comments!

@Jan Marcano, @nek: Thanks! Do you think that some sort of reminder bar which lists the combinations would be useful?

@LittleThor: Glad that you loved the love thing and the music! What don't you understand about the beginning?

@Sergey Mohov: Do you know what level that happened in? Glad you enjoyed it! And thank you for noticing the level editor! I think that it's the best bit of the game! (I said totally unbiasedly) :P

@Morgawr: Well that was lucky, managing to mash 'em until you got it right :)
And yes, LINUX POWER!! *explosion sound with guitar solo*

@doonay21: OK, I'll add an option to the post-compo version to let you choose if it does that.

@jhelle,@josefnpat: Thank you both for your super nice comments! I've found that I missed an "if not tiles[x][y] == nil then", which is causing the error. I'll fix it after the compo, but for now it is easily avoidable by not mashing the keys :P

@motty: Have you tried compiling the LOVE 8.0 source code? That may work. Anyway, glad to hear that you enjoyed it!

puzzlem00n 2013-08-26 14:38

Good lord, Finn, you may not be able to code things like physics, but... Good lord! This is thrice as good as my game! You code this whole atoms system, make all these different blocks and powers for what they do, and you coded in a level editor? How!? Just how!? Incredible! I am beyond impressed! I've been impressed so much it's crushing my lungs! *GASP*

Now for the fun part: criticizing you to make me feel better. I mean you do better next time. Yes, that is what I meant.
-The level design is great for the most part, but in the early levels it does a pretty bad job of teaching you to memorize how the game works. You just walk forward and win, there's no need to learn it. Then, with the little test, it just hits you: "What did that again?" More levels in a post-compo might help, so you can space out the learning of all the different atom types.
-Some things are a bit unclear. Telling me that such and such is a fan and it conducts electricity doesn't help as much as you just telling me "Hey, hitting that block with this molecule makes those walls go bye-bye."

Also, suggestion for your level editor: https://github.com/NikolaiResokav/LoveFrames

michcioperz 2013-08-26 15:05

Challenging game, I was stuck on one level cause I forgot atom combos needed

leafo 2013-08-26 16:53

Cool idea. Had to go back to remember the sequences so I didn't have to bash keys.

reaperguy 2013-08-26 17:16

A really great concept, but remembering and rearrange the atoms is too hard, and also the graphics could use some work

lcass 2013-08-26 18:25

neat

theholychicken 2013-08-26 20:54

I was staring at the piggy for 10 seconds until I realized that was not the game.
Really cool game! The level where you just go through the outer wall was a good one.

_alts 2013-08-27 08:07

Cool game. I "beat the tutorial" and got a score of circle, which I suspect is way worse than a decagon.

I never ended up remembering what combination of elements did what, so I would end up just bashing keys. I also never totally learned how switching atoms worked. That is, I was never sure what would happen when I pushed on of the number keys (which would be swapped with the number I'd pressed?)

I think this element combination system could be really fun. A problem is that the way that the powers are taught to the player doesn't require any sort of comprehension. As a result, I think it might be less effective than just listing the powers up front, because combining it with play in this way distracts from learning the rules.

I'd like to see a version of this without the time limit, and with more levels. Bravo on the level editor, by the way. Not an easy feat in a jam.

snoringfrog 2013-08-27 15:24

Well, chemistry like this is at least a bit more interesting than in class haha. Game was surprisingly difficult on a few levels, mostly because I'd already forgotten all the compounds I could create except for NaH, so I ended up just button mashing numbers to get through things xD

Aside from timing being pretty close on a few levels, nothing stood out at me as a major issue at all. Looked good enough, sounded good, used the theme, yada yada. Good stuff, I enjoyed it.

terrabyte 2013-08-27 18:56

Wow, more nice comments! This game jam is working out really well for me!

@Puzzlem00n, @alts: Yeah, the level design for the tutorial levels wasn't very good, but at least I know that for the post-compo version! Thank you for your constructive criticism as well as your nice comments :)

@Michcioperz, @leafo, @Reaperguy: Do you think that a key on the right-hand side would be useful? Oh, and thank you :)

@Icass: thank you! :3

@theholychicken: Thanks! By the way, what level where you go through the outer wall?

@SnoringFrog: glad to hear it!

2013-08-29 03:07

it didn't work on Mac. ><

terrabyte 2013-08-29 17:08

@Paprika: What version of Mac do you have? I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work :(
There's always the .love if you download the love library from love2d.org.

jujule 2013-09-03 11:07

Beautiful graphics ! Really ! I love the saturated colors. Love the music too. Good pace, fits the theme well. Nice gameplay too. Like some other commentator, I just bashed the buttons until I managed to progress but I think it also fits the atmosphere of the game.
Works great on my Mac.

gritfish 2013-09-03 11:59

The atoms/rearranging thing is bonkers!
Maybe if there was more to the graphics than colours, it might be easier to parse the instructions, but the aesthetic is cool on it's own.. I dunno..

klianc09 2013-09-03 12:48

The music is somehow hypnotizing (in a good way). I had no idea what the atoms exactly did, or how the switching works, was too distracted getting to the goal within 10 seconds.

manuq 2013-09-03 16:18

I also liked the saturated colors. Was difficult to discover how to play. Good entry!

tompudding 2013-09-15 16:42

I loved the music, but I echo other comments about not adequately forcing the player to learn the rules in the early levels. Great job!

sheepolution 2013-09-15 16:51

This could be a great educative game. For this concept 10 seconds is too fast for me. Cool game though.

vile-smile 2013-09-15 19:05

A little confusing at first. The music fits well. Not bad.
