Your game needs a lot of balancing. I got just past ProTip 2, but then it got too hard :(

torcado194 2013-12-16 04:15

i feared it would be too hard for some people. Sorry, i guess i just dont like easy games xD I tried not to make it too hard this time though.

mcapraro 2013-12-16 05:58

really great effort, great job with this. i like the overall concept of the spring crate, although it would be cool to have some fragility to the crate - i didnt notice any in the early levels at least

kcpunk666 2013-12-16 06:21

Best thing I could say is I ended up playing it longer then then I thought I would. Good job!

dalbinblue 2013-12-16 06:28

I had to bail on the game at level 4. The single block platforming is just too hard. But despite that, this is the first game where I've played where the theme was strong. Most things I've played needed an explanation in the comments or something along those lines to understand how the game relates to the theme.

eriku 2013-12-16 06:35

Interesting game! Well executed, especially taking the time for the music.

It is a game of patience though. Made it past the 3 doors level and stopped. While I know it's part of the theme, I can't help but feel this game would be much more fun with manual aiming.

Overall it was challenging and a neat experience.

torcado194 2013-12-16 15:04

@mcapraro shhhhhh.. ;)
@dalbinblue thanks a lot for your comment! Yes the 1 block platforming does get annoying.. But I thought it wasn't too bad since you can almost stop moving in mid-air. Maybe I put too much into the game.. I feel like nobody will get to the end haha. Same thing as I did last time. I just want people who do spend their time beating the game feel very accomplished when they do :D
@ErikU thank you! I was very surprised I was able to make any music for this since I'm never musically inspired. I guess once I made one song I just was able to make like 5-6 more xD (2-3 of which are in the ending, unfortunately. Or fortunately!)

hyoga-3d 2013-12-16 18:02

Different way to make a platform iw only jumping, nice graphics, but I also thought it a little difficult.

torcado194 2013-12-16 18:24

I think my problem with this was I tried making an actual full game in the time allotted, rather than making a game for Ludum dare, similar to games entered in the competition. I doubt anyone will finish it. But if this were a standalone game not for the purpose of this competition, it would be seen as a better game. But that's just my thought

lacutis 2013-12-17 01:15

The controls and the mechanic felt solid but it got really repetitive, especially with the sound.
A good idea though and well executed.

torcado194 2013-12-17 02:08

thanks for the comment!

mflux 2013-12-17 02:12

Nice game! My only gripe was sliding up walls removing all horizontal momentum, made climbing very tricky bordering on frustrating. Aside that everything was great!

integershift 2013-12-17 02:16

It got too hard for me. Otherwise, it was fun!

Bactopiad 2013-12-17 02:18

I feel like the mechanics were promising, but the gameplay was a bit lacking. I would really, really, REALLY like to see a fuller version of this game, seems like a great fit for smartphones! :-)

onlyslightly 2013-12-17 02:40

Great game feel and visuals. Everything felt right. And great way to fit the mechanic with the theme!

chrstphrschulte 2013-12-17 02:56

This thing is devilishly hard but I kept coming back to it. I don't have time to beat it today, though there's a good chance I'm coming back for more. Good job.

torcado194 2013-12-17 03:49

ah thanks for the great comments! i agree with all of you :D
and maybe i will fix this up for mobile or other. i feel like bouncing off walls would be a cool mechanic, and having /some/ momentum after sliding up a wall would be very helpful

silentbunny 2013-12-17 04:41

good difficulty, good movement feel. The music was a bit abrasive after awhile.

burlapjack 2013-12-17 04:42

It has a slow build up. It gets good after a while though. And wicked hard. I really like the art style.

blooperly 2013-12-17 04:44

Fun game! Definitely a good idea. I like the physics too.

torcado194 2013-12-17 04:46

thanks a lot! i tried making the music as not repetitive as possible, but the fact that i made ANY music, never the less 6 or so tracks, baffles even me. so i can take any music criticism lightly xD

chaoseiro 2013-12-17 04:47

A really nice concept. I couldn't reach the end...
anyway, i totally see this as a great mobile game, you should polish it more and put on the stores :D

wojworks 2013-12-17 04:51

A solid game, although getting around can be a little too tedious and frustrating at times.

mystakin 2013-12-17 05:53

This is one of those games that got me excited before I pressed a single button. Love the concept, level progression, and level design. Perhaps a bit too tough for its own good, but still a lot of fun.

torcado194 2013-12-17 06:24

Gah thanks a lot for the amazing comments! This certainly drives my hobby to make games! :DD

pebkac 2013-12-17 07:53

Movement was very difficult. Audio and graphics are certainly OK.

sprawl 2013-12-17 15:21

Great game. The controls handle well (although in the harder levels there's a lot of waiting for the crate to be in the good direction).
Nice art and music. Congrats on completing a whole game in <48 hours !

photon 2013-12-17 18:48

Pretty slick presentation and its a nifty concept. Unfortunately, you don't really do a whole lot with the mechanic. It's pretty much just going from place to place without any real threat of death (at least from what I played.) Nice game, though. With some extra gameplay touches I think it could be even better!

torcado194 2013-12-17 20:20

Thanks! I tried having no death scenarios in the game. But there are some (one) place you must restart if you do it incorrectly.

aarongordon 2013-12-18 00:03

Great entry! That hill near the start had me for ages! Felt awesome conquering it though. Would love to see a bit of a gentler ramp up in difficulty and personally I wanted a longer (visually) but faster (in time) charge bar.

zkenshin 2013-12-18 02:14

Liked the spring mechanic for movement. :)

vikingpotato 2013-12-18 04:23

A fun and good looking game! ideal for mobiles too

unept 2013-12-19 20:48

Nice! I quickly pictured it as a nice little iPad game, with a few refinements. :)

drnick 2013-12-20 07:19

The best "You Only Get One Button" game, so far.

mephi 2013-12-20 18:15

Nice idea! Looks like a complete game - congrats!

smash-ball 2013-12-22 19:33

I spent so much time getting to the top of the factory (the middle screen shot), only to find out I was in the same place had I entered normally. That was a bummer.

mekuri 2013-12-22 20:28

Very nice concept. I really liked the idea. It was a bit slow for me though. A bit faster movement and charge speed, would be nice :D
Good job!

torcado194 2013-12-23 03:56

Thanks a lot guys!
Also yes the speed is something I thought about but I think it's just at the point where it isn't too fast that it's frustrating trying to get the right angle

murilo 2013-12-23 19:15

The mechanics were awesome! I found myself playing it longer than I expected even though it's repetitive (at least to the point I got). Great stuff, man! Even if it made go mad!!!

torcado194 2013-12-24 03:14

thank you! :D

sheep 2013-12-28 19:40

Nooo, not another platformer! ;)
But a neat idea and good execution.

pitzik4 2014-01-01 07:22

I stopped when I ran out of things to smash in rage. Next time, keep in mind that it's way harder if you're not the one who made the game.
Other than the obscene difficulty, though, this game is really impressive for 48 hours. It looks and sounds good, and the mechanics are good aside from a few frustrations.
If you try harder to make something beatable next time, I'll look forward to playing it.

anvoz 2014-01-01 12:49

Nice game. I really love the mechanics and music. I think it would be better if the crate swung a little faster.

greytram 2014-01-01 12:50

Very funny and addictive game!
Nice graphics too and music is entertaining :-)
Well done!

madball 2014-01-01 13:34

The game was nice, polished, finished, even long... A rare thing in Ludum Dare! Yes, it's difficult, and it took a lot of time, but that's not a bad thing.
I didn't like physics though. It felt overly realistic, there is no reason to make the collision area change when you are rotating. You might even fall from a static platform without moving.
Detecting if you are on ground also has leaks. For example, if you are on a moving platform, and it goes away from you, you can jump while falling. And many other cases when you can jump, but aren't supposed to.
The game doesn't motivate you to progress. You get level after level, and you don't feel like the game is going to end eventually. It takes patience, and not everybody has it.

postmodestie 2014-01-01 14:47

Very nice! Would profit from alternate routes, which would reward exploring higher grounds (i take from the comments that there are none).

ointment 2014-01-01 17:26

Kind of a dull execution, but there's room for expansion in the concept of a turn-based platformer. Would've loved to see enemies or just anything more interactive than bouncing around. The audio is derpy too.

torcado194 2014-01-01 20:08

@Madball this is very good criticism, thank you very much! All your points are well made.
For the collision box rotating with it, I agree it could be different, but that was the only way i saw i could do it.
For ground detection, yes once your aiming animation plays, you can jump from anywhere. I can EASILY fix this, but while testing, some of the most fun time was me saving myself by jumping to safety in mid-air after falling off a block, so i left it in.
So, you don't like the realism through the hitbox staying as it should while rotating, AND you don't like the non-realism of being able to jump in mid-air on rare occasions.
Also the moving platforms were annoying and caused too many problems when landing on top of. I could've made them better, but yeh.
And the motivation, I definitely agree with. I should've seen this before. Nobody has really brought this up, at least not in a way where I understood hah. You are very much correct. I can't think of a way I could add motivation.. I'll have to think about it. but this is very useful information.
Also, did you beat it?? If you did, you are the first!
@postmodestie hey alternate routes would've been a good thing to add. Why didn't I do that..
@Jiggawatt Yes i also agree. I definitely did not want enemies.. I had the great idea to put bouncing walls in after the compo ended, that wouldve been fun. Yeah buttons are the only thing right now. pretty dull I definitely agree. Let's see.. I could've added.. maybe zero-g areas where you can just fly-jump everywhere.. maybe water that you have to dive into or else you just float to the top.. Floating water where you could jump from beneath and float up.. Maybe even upgrade attachments that could adjust your spring or just add different abilities.. I wanted to add riding platforms but they caused too many problems which i ultimately scrapped and instead used them as a blocking element.

Thanks for the comments and for playing my game!
