LD21 — Escape

Flee Buster by ChevyRay 2011-08-23T07:51:00

Very nice game. Simple graphics, but they looked good. The game mechanic of switching between "experiences" is great; it adds a suspense sort of feeling to it.

The thing I don't like is the difficulty, largely caused by the fact that you have to restart all three if you die in one; not sure if there's a way round that though.

Finally, I think it would've been good to have two slightly different sounds for the tokens to add some more audial variety.

Martin vs Monty by jonbro 2011-09-05T10:53:00

A pretty cool game. Unfortunately, because this game is obviously made for the iPad, it felt very awkward to play on the Mac because I had to use the mouse. However, it looks like it would be great on its intended device.

"EscapeBot" by Jonneh 2011-08-30T01:20:00

Great concept! I really like the idea of programming a robot with instructions. If it the idea was fleshed out some more it would be a pretty awesome game.

The audio wasn't good though, especially the music, which was really annoying. Also, I didn't play all 16 levels, but the ten I did play seemed to only increase in instruction count rather than using any new instructions.

The Man Who Sold The World by krangGAMES 2011-08-23T00:51:00

Very nice game. The story line is interesting, the music is nice, especially the stuff that plays outside earth, and the platforming can be interesting as well.

I'm not quite sure how it relates escaping. Is it that there's no escape for the human race?

Also, how do you choose wisdom in the final stage?

Facilitated Escape by BlackBulletIV 2011-08-22T22:52:00

@kevglass Thanks! That's a good idea. I'd have to learn some more about iOS and get a developer account though.

Facilitated Escape by BlackBulletIV 2011-08-22T22:58:00

@ChevyRay Thanks. You're right about the collision, it should be more generous, at least on the top and bottom.

Facilitated Escape by BlackBulletIV 2011-08-23T03:41:00

@hamster_mk_4 Thanks. I did have some minor issues as well, but for me it was caused by having too many other applications rendering at the same. Minimise those and I could get it over 600 FPS. It might also be related to drivers, or just something in Love2D; not sure really.

Facilitated Escape by BlackBulletIV 2011-08-23T04:25:00

@mikelovesrobots3 Thanks a lot!

It's probably a good idea, but I'd only want that effect if the user only lightly hit the sides. Realistically, if you slammed a rocket into the side of a wall, it'd blow up. (And yeah, being drunk wouldn't help, lol.)

Facilitated Escape by BlackBulletIV 2011-08-23T20:42:00

@cornedor Thanks. And yeah, it is pretty hard; takes some practice. But of course, since it's procedurally generated, there's no "end" to get to.

@jonnopon3000 Thanks a lot! I agree, it would hardly be as much fun without the procedural generation (just like Canabalt).

Facilitated Escape by BlackBulletIV 2011-08-25T04:56:00

@johnfn Thanks! You're correct in what you say, there's some impossible situations generated by this version of the game. I am however continuing to develop the game, and thanks to feedback of others it's now (in my opinion) quite a bit fairer than what was submitted.

Facilitated Escape by BlackBulletIV 2011-08-28T06:00:00

@summaky Yeah, unfortunately framebuffers (OpenGL 3+, I think) are a requirement at this stage. I'm going to try using SpriteBatches, which is supported by OpenGL 1.something and higher.

Facilitated Escape by BlackBulletIV 2011-08-29T06:28:00

@BlueShaman Thanks for your feedback. *Any* form of skill? I wouldn't think so. You are right to a certain degree however, the generator is a little too harsh. I've been making some adjustments to make it fairer, so hopefully it'll be better when the game is completed.

Facilitated Escape by BlackBulletIV 2011-09-01T02:39:00

@Andrew Yeah, I guess it does. I've played around with making the effects little blocks, but I just don't like the looks of it. Nevertheless, I've stored what I did in case I decide to use it later.

Blockhead Can't Escape by Bleck 2011-08-23T07:59:00

Some fun gameplay, and nice graphics.

As said by the others, it's really short, but add lots more levels and it'll be much better. I would also recommend displaying text only once; when I backtracked the text displayed again (I'm not talking about the game restarting either).

/ ESCAPE \ by schonstal 2011-08-23T20:58:00

Wow! This is amazing! Great graphics, great gameplay, good sound, and lots of polish. Well done guys!

Alpha Centuri by Jasper Stocker 2011-08-23T04:20:00

Didn't get very far, got swarmed by enemies. However, you've got some great graphics in this game!

Antagonist by Jonathan Whiting 2011-08-23T03:58:00

Very hard for me, I kept getting trapped because of those spawners! Still looks like a good game. Graphics are pretty cool too; some good colours you use there.

My biggest annoyance is jumping. For it's too slow, and too low.

It's Right Behind You! by mikelovesrobots3 2011-08-23T10:12:00

Pretty cool gameplay, it was quite challenging at first, the lava that was just sitting there got me a number of times.

The graphics don't look that good, and there's no audio. Nevertheless, a nice little game. (And of course, bravo for using Love2D.)

LD22 — Alone

Abandon by Acheron 2011-12-19T05:43:00

Regarding art, the architecture is very nice, though having simple white objects without textures didn't really fit with the land.

For me, the mouse was EXTREMELY sensitive, so it was really hard to move properly. The physics also felt a bit weird. I didn't collect all the items, mainly because I couldn't be bothered struggling with the mouse sensitivity for 30 minutes.

Also, that big dome object near the player's friend didn't seem to have a mesh attached; I could walk straight through it.

Little Lucy by Marco Jonkers 2011-12-21T21:48:00

Nicely done, but a shame it's so short. As has already been mentioned it could definitely use some sadish music in the background.

Urine Trouble by Zemmi 2011-12-21T03:35:00

Ha ha! Funny, original in concept, and nicely implemented.

Uncorrupted by BlackBulletIV 2011-12-19T11:41:00

@Josh:
Well that's great! Scary is the mood what I want to give, though I honestly did expect too much in that regard. Thanks. :)

@binarycoder:
Thanks!

Uncorrupted by BlackBulletIV 2011-12-19T20:10:00

Wow! Thanks a lot man! :D

Uncorrupted by BlackBulletIV 2011-12-21T03:07:00

Thanks so much! Nice to hear you're on good rating roll. :)

Uncorrupted by BlackBulletIV 2011-12-21T10:09:00

Thanks!

Scattered everywhere? I didn't think I put that many memes in there. Of course there were a couple things related to "arrow in the knee", "nyan, nyan, nyan...", and maybe another one, but I can't remember anything other memes. Nevertheless, one thing I was concerned about is that it may take away from the creepy mood... but I was having too much fun with it all. :D

Uncorrupted by BlackBulletIV 2011-12-22T22:38:00

Thanks guys! :)

Uncorrupted by BlackBulletIV 2011-12-26T19:22:00

@Cell:
Lol, I guess that's good then. :)

@Jacic:
Does it? Well it's definitely unintentional.

Uncorrupted by BlackBulletIV 2012-01-03T05:22:00

@agerstant
Yeah they were generated with Bfxr. Thanks!

@Ishisoft
Thanks! Yeah, looking back the humor does detract from the mood, but oh well, it's there now.

Uncorrupted by BlackBulletIV 2012-01-06T06:34:00

Thanks, that's good to hear!

Book Of Hyperion by headchant 2011-12-19T23:02:00

Good job! Great music, and pretty good graphics.

Unfortunately a serious bug stopped me from progressing in that first dungeon (I think that's what you'd call it) located in the forest. I would attack something, and then the player would just started moving across the world from top-left to bottom-right, through the walls and everything. I'm using a Mac.

sQared by FredericRP 2011-12-21T22:06:00

Great job! I wasn't able to complete it though, because I just kept getting lost.

The biggest problem I had is with the sensitivity of the mouse movement. And yeah, I'm on Mac.

There's also a number of bugs/glitches, such as lights from another room cutting through the wall, or falling through the floor when hitting that moving red wall, but they're not major.

Only You Can Save The World by Jack 2011-12-20T07:28:00

Nicely done! I enjoyed that. A few problems:

* No audio.
* Difficulty scaling. As iforce2d brought up, the level where you have to race up to platform is the hardest, it took me a few tries to get it.
* A bit short. (This isn't really "problem" I guess, but I do wish it were longer.)

Mr Booo! by Fang 2011-12-19T05:16:00

No links appear on this entry for me. Is that a problem on your end?

LD23 — Tiny World

Cyberoid by Pedro de Quadros 2012-05-06T10:24:00

The gameplay wasn't very good. Enemies and bullets travelling through walls, jetpack cutting out, no motivation to move around the world, and so on.

There's no indication of your score, how many more hits you can take, or the jetpack's fuel, if it does use fuel of course. Not having this information is kind of annoying.

One good thing that stuck out for me was the music; that was pretty cool.

Tiny's World by Topaz 2012-04-26T09:45:00

This wouldn't run for me. I'd a see a DOS window pop up and then immediately close down. After a while of waiting I checked the task manager to see whether Python or some other process related to the game was running, but I didn't find anything.

By looking at the comments it looks like I need PyGame, which I really couldn't be bothered with right now.

Kao by NebulaOrbit 2012-05-02T20:42:00

The art's pretty cool, but I really had no clue what to do. I chopped some wood down, fought an enemy, lost most of my health, and just started wandering around trying to find out what to do.

Poiesis by Them Games 2012-05-01T08:07:00

It just sat for ages on the command prompt window. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

Asylum by Orni 2012-04-25T22:47:00

Extremely drawn out beginning, boring gameplay, and no sound (unfortunately). However, the theme, mood and graphics were all great (with the exception of an unanimated character).

Microbe jump by jmaasing 2012-05-12T09:20:00

Most of the time I missed the raindrops; it's very hard to hit them. It took me a while to work out that I was supposed to aim in the first place.

Tiny Life by armornick 2012-05-01T08:14:00

This ends up being a click the enemy game, especially because you have unlimited mines. The enemy movement eases the difficulty even further.

The ending text was kind of amusing though, and you made it in Love2D, which is awesome.

One last thing: you credit sfxr for sound effects, yet I heard nothing play? Is this a bug?

Protector by kiswa 2012-05-01T09:11:00

I quite like the concept, the music was pretty cool too. I couldn't get that far though, since it's very difficult for me. Nevertheless, it's pretty cool.

Montezuma's Tomb by recursor 2012-05-03T23:24:00

Very frustrating. It's impossible to get the first key it seems. Falling a tiny height will kill you, and the jumping is very annoying and buggy.

Having the entire world in one screen is quite cool though.

Cereal Prize Astronaut by MutagenMan 2012-05-01T09:53:00

Damn it, the slow controls and buggy collision detection were driving me insane. The lighting was pretty awesome though.

Also, it when moving to the left the character sprite doesn't flip, and it looks really weird.

Little Sheep by Merkurius Team 2012-05-01T08:56:00

Quite short, but interesting. I did like the peaceful chiptune music in the background.

There were some issues with the conversations; for example, when we'd migrated the bird indicating we were still migrating when I asked where we were going.

Finally, there's a typo in the main screen. It says "press espace to interact;" I thought it meant escape at first.

Phobius by deejorg 2012-05-02T21:23:00

I won't rate it yet, because I can't get past level two. I just can't quite make the jump. Is this a collision bug?

Anyway, it seems pretty cool.

When Worlds Collide by AlwaysGeeky 2012-04-26T09:31:00

For some reason I had to use the version without shaders, even though I know my machine (a 2011 iMac) supports shaders. Don't worry though, I'm basing my graphical rating mostly on the video and screenshots.

Anyway, the game's graphically impressive, but the gameplay is very limited and there's no sound. Also, it seems that the vaporize power doesn't reload after a restart.

Redbeard the Borrower by jrasmussen24 2012-05-01T08:28:00

Quite a humorous little game! The voiced music and sound effects were funny, although the music got really annoying after a while. Controls were awkward, especially with the camera.

But still, a nice game, even if it is a bit unpolished.

Laser Fly by 0xdeadbeef 2012-05-06T10:26:00

Same as everyone else, the windows opens, but nothing displays.

Lost Oxide by SidetrackGames 2012-04-23T05:22:00

The graphics and lighting were great, although the character felt under-animated. I found the gameplay to be a bit boring, and slightly frustrating at times.

The music became really annoying; I ended up turning it off. As you say, it was rushed. I think some background ambience would be better. Also, the music kind of ruined the mood that I was getting from the graphics.

The Lump World by Kralle 2012-05-06T10:12:00

The mechanics are there, but everything to do with units was terribly buggy, mainly on the last level. Their was hardly any content, only three levels that seemed like introductory levels. And once I'd finished, it just kept playing level one.

The audio was... horrid. It sounds like some sort grinding wheel, with a motor in the background and then a guitar of some sorts shows up for a few seconds.

Also, in-game instructions would've been nice. I eventually figured out how everything works by the description on this page.

I'm not trying to sound overly negative, this is just what I'm observing.

Mr.No's Laboratory by Helco 2012-05-07T03:54:00

Nice! The hacking system was clever, though it took me a while to figure out its rules. Tiled movement would've greatly decreased the frustrations I had with moving around. For example, I had trouble placing connectors in the right spot when hacking, and trouble getting through door ways.

The Microsoft Sam voice was a bit annoying, and the game would've definitely benefited from some ambient sounds or music.

Anyway, the game definitely needs some polish, but its got some good concepts.

Microscopia by azurenimbus 2012-05-14T01:00:00

This was great. Simple, but innovative idea, implemented in a minimalistic way. Well done.

Watercolour by Super Soul 2012-04-26T10:02:00

My situation's the same as vilya. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit with XNA 4 installed, and I get a crash on start up.

Interplanetary Sumo by Milo 2012-04-24T02:52:00

An interesting and rather fun idea.

Hamster Damn by Valandre 2012-05-01T08:47:00

Very nice! A simple idea solidly implemented. It kept me engaged for the whole round, which is pretty impressive.

Rock 'n' Slash by BlackBulletIV 2012-04-23T00:54:00

Thanks :)

Rock 'n' Slash by BlackBulletIV 2012-04-23T08:50:00

Yeah, but the camera doesn't move, therefore rendering anything parallax useless. If the camera moved, then that would be a great effect.

Rock 'n' Slash by BlackBulletIV 2012-04-23T21:47:00

Thanks for finding that glitch kirbytails7. I'll make sure to fix it in further development.

Rock 'n' Slash by BlackBulletIV 2012-04-24T02:57:00

Thanks. If I remember correctly, it takes 90 seconds to reach full difficulty. At something like 70 seconds groups of enemies will have three, instead of two, enemies each. I hardly ever get to full difficulty, but that's probably because I do crazy stuff like mid-air backstabs.

Some say it's too hard, some say it's too easy. Might need a steeper difficulty curve, or different difficulty levels.

Rock 'n' Slash by BlackBulletIV 2012-04-25T21:59:00

Orni:
Thanks. I assume you mean there weren't enough enemies right? That's definitely a problem. I think I made the game too easy in the earlier stages as a reaction to my habit of making games far too hard.

shattenkind.net:
Indeed, although it would be a little squished on the keyboard. As you would expect, a lot of factors prevented that from happening in the time frame.

Rock 'n' Slash by BlackBulletIV 2012-05-03T03:30:00

Thanks for the feedback guys. Powerups definitely sound like a good idea.

I slowed the shooting down to balance things out and to give melee more prominence. If it was semi-automatic then you'd just be taking enemies down everywhere. But perhaps I could then just add more enemies and let melee take a back seat; I don't know. Difficulty is a tough thing to get right.

Rock 'n' Slash by BlackBulletIV 2012-05-05T05:26:00

deejorg:
You're right. I realised that after a while, and its fixed in the version I'm working with right now.

Rock 'n' Slash by BlackBulletIV 2012-05-09T11:44:00

Thanks a lot!

Mr Cool by Rialgar 2012-05-02T21:17:00

The game was quite fun, and the "puzzles" were pretty cool too. I like how the whole world in round too; that's pretty unique.

However the fun is degraded by terrible enemy collision (the bounding box must be double their width), and touchy controls. Also, the game does lag a bit.

Pin Party by cambrian_era 2012-04-24T01:50:00

An nice, polished, and solid game. It was frustrating though; it took me a while to work out where I was supposed to go, and I quit at round 2 due to it taking ages to advance. But anyway, good work!

Triskelion by 23 2012-05-06T10:34:00

A nice little game! Even though I don't last long due to some frustrating controls on the planet side, it was still fun. The music was cool, although some sound effects would've been nice.

Aloft by Mark Ffrench 2012-04-26T10:19:00

Ha ha, that was pretty cool. The graphics are great, and the game is generally humorous. The gameplay isn't the best though; my hand was starting to hurt trying to collect all the resources and repel bombs at the same time.

Life in jar by Simple Ghost 2012-04-28T21:44:00

Some very nice graphics, and interesting, albeit slow and sometimes grinding, gameplay. Well done!

Universal Singularity by kratorspore 2012-05-01T09:05:00

The controls are horrible; only being able to move one direction at a time is a serious pain in the gluteus maximus. And although the art is decent, it just doesn't seem to look right against the backdrop.

The one thing I did like was the audio; that was pretty cool.

Tiny Conflict by Redream 2012-04-23T05:42:00

I liked that, the gameplay was fun and innovative, and the graphics looked good. The audio didn't sound too good, but it wasn't really annoying.

Breakdown on a Tiny World by WookooUK 2012-05-02T21:00:00

Good job for six hours, and it's your first game too! As has been said, the arc-firing is cool.

Of course, the game suffers from a lot of issues like enemies spawning on you and collision detection. Not being able to fire to the left means that the game pretty becomes a process of running to the right and shooting as fast as possible. But I'm sure you know that already. :)

Restless Island by Homletmoo 2012-05-02T20:48:00

Wow, nice job! After I figured out I needed to collect coins it was very fun. I do think it's a bit too hard though. Perhaps some more lives or something?

The graphics were pretty decent, though some corner tiles would've really helped. The audio's good too.

Well done!

FlyAway! by veloc1 2012-05-01T08:34:00

The bugs with physics and collision really make it hard to play. The concept's there, it just needs to be ironed out and polished.

Pivotation by KingKay 2012-04-26T10:44:00

A very nice concept with very nice art. I like how you can see the next "world" through the centre of the current one.

But damn, this was the most frustrating Ludum Dare 23 game yet. This is mostly due to bugs with jumping on slanted surface which constantly sent me down into lethal objects. This bug ruined the gameplay experience for me and forced me to quit on level three. If that were ironed out, then I'm sure it would be quite fun.

LD25 — You are the Villain

The Good Doctor by Sestren 2012-12-27T23:19:00

The shortness of the game was a bit disappointing, but the mood and theme were very good. I'm guessing the character is the black death, right?

Plunder! by MarekkPie 2012-12-25T08:12:00

The game's pretty bugged. I had to restart a level, and apparently it sent me to a completely different level. Once I'd completed that level, it just reset the level, not moving on. The game also kept refusing to throw bodies.

Another minor problem is that the instruction text goes by too fast. It took a bit for me to get the controls because of that.

Good job on using Love2D though. :)

Bertie the Butcher by Casino Jack 2012-12-25T02:36:00

Well made! This was one of the most fun entries I've played yet, in spite of having buggy collision and getting a little easy towards the end. The graphics, although very simple, had a uniform aesthetic and looked quite nice.

uSlender by bechsen 2012-12-27T23:31:00

A great concept, though there's a few problems. The music was good quality, but I felt it ruined the mood; something scarier or more disturbing would have been better. The teleporting was rather glitchy too, refusing to work at times.

Black Sheep by Spouwny 2012-12-27T23:46:00

Wow, that was a really simple tale, but very effective. Unsure what happened in the end. Did they make love at the end, did the last sheep kill you, or did the two merge together?

The Red Hood by OrangeeZ 2012-12-24T08:26:00

The graphics are quite impressive; definitely the best part of the game. The sound is well made, although there's quite a few sound effects "missing" (like footsteps, people, etc.).

The gameplay... well, it isn't clear whether there's a goal (like, keep going for a number of days or something) or not, and it does get boring somewhat quickly. Good of used some story too.

Also, there's some problems with the cursor. The web version's cursor isn't locked at all, making it impossible to play. If you Alt+Tab out of the Windows version the cursor will be unlocked as well.

'Goat, give me back my clothes !' by MvT 2012-12-25T01:45:00

A nice art style, but incredibly hard and glitchy to control.

The Unforgiven Wanderers by AlexFili 2012-12-17T09:41:00

I can't seem to run it. It says "exported games won't work until you upload them." I open index.html and just get a black page with a link to Construct 2.

Fight the Power by TwilightFlandre 2012-12-26T03:16:00

Well this is a very interesting concept. I had fun testing out various songs with it. One problem for me is that it's too hard; I had a really even getting to the good bits of the songs, and when if I did get there, all hell broke lose and I lost. This could be helped by having a replay option, so I don't have to browse to my music every time. I'd love an invisibility option, just to see what it does with various tunes.

I don't see much relation to the theme though. Yes, there's the description on this page, but nothing in the game itself.

Villain OS 8 by tommycreo 2012-12-31T09:41:00

A pretty decent and amusing game.

PsyGoat by SecondDimension 2012-12-25T07:30:00

Quite fun, though there's no challenge to it, as the AI is completely clueless. The controls felt a bit awkward too.

The Shadow Inside Of Me by SaintHeiser 2012-12-24T09:17:00

The sound in combination with the lighting worked really well to create a dark atmosphere. Gameplay was pretty cool too; I would've given another star to the fun rating if it weren't for a scarcity checkpoints.

The text in the game had quite a few mistakes, but I assume English isn't your native language, so that's fine.

Kill'im by syawqy 2012-12-31T09:50:00

Nice visuals, but I felt that, while the gameplay does potentially have strategy, it boiled down to a clickfest. The difficulty seems alright; I got close, but didn't quite make it.

Lack of Texture Adventure by Dioiminik 2012-12-25T07:39:00

I found it quite frustrating. The enemies know exactly where you are, they shoot straight through walls, their bullets travel further... ugh. But, I did like the feel of the controls (jumping, moving, etc.).

Also, congratulations on finishing your Ludum Dare.

Evil Foot Race For Kittens by AxeTheory 2012-12-25T07:54:00

Quite like the idea, but it's too difficult I think. The other guy doesn't make mistakes and the controls are somewhat cumbersome.

Firepower! by cwilloughby 2012-12-22T23:37:00

Pretty sweet! I like the concept, and the graphics were well made.

Dracula Super Goat Hunter by lur 2012-12-19T10:51:00

An interesting concept. I quite liked the theme, and especially the image for Dracula scaring goats. The gameplay got a bit boring soon in though.

The Unseen by huginn 2012-12-19T11:37:00

Quite an intriguing theme, but the controls (especially the walking speed) were painful. Lack of sound was also an issue; some mild, disturbing ambience would have been brilliant.

Mitt Romney and the Case of the Sex Doll by jackspinoza 2012-12-28T00:08:00

Yeah, that was pretty disgusting, although the rest wasn't too bad compared with the end. The music was... disturbing. I muted the game after the radio changed.

I didn't really like it, but I'll certainly give points for innovation and mood.

Noir Game by epiplon 2012-12-24T09:06:00

A decent game with a cool mechanic.

One thing though. Unless I misread, it says in the README that the music was composed by a friend. I think that means this should have been in the jam, not the competition, since the latter is solo only.

Red Legion by DeathBySnail 2012-12-25T07:48:00

Wow, that was a really cool twist. I quite enjoyed the dialogue as well. The fighting... not so much. But still, the story was really cool.

Power Grab by Milo 2012-12-27T23:12:00

For some reason the game wouldn't let me attack, making the maximum score 60.

Atomic Creep Spawner!! by deepnight 2012-12-28T05:24:00

Wow, that was incredible. Not really sure how you keep pulling stuff like this off, but bravo!

The Heist by alexlarioza 2012-12-25T02:06:00

I didn't get particularly far. So much command guessing! The help command only lists a few. I wasn't able to guess how to talk about subjects and the like.

The other side by vrld 2012-12-23T23:11:00

Very nice. I didn't find it particularly fun, but the theme is pretty sweet. I particularly liked the post-processing effects, although there were quite a few visual artefacts and glitches from them.

Amongst Shadows by BlackBulletIV 2012-12-17T06:18:00

Wow, I really wasn't expecting such positive feedback, thanks guys. Believe it or not, there's nothing in the code to that make enemies notice their dead comrades. However, enemies search around the last known position of the player, and that often tends to be where a guard kills.

As for it being hard to land a hit, it was easier when running in in the desktop Shockwave player (better performance). I could increase the distance to hit slightly; I don't think it would break the rules, since it's a minor port (from desktop to web) issue.

Amongst Shadows by BlackBulletIV 2012-12-17T23:19:00

SaintHeiser and MvT: Sorry about the buggy backstabbing. It seems that Flash/FlashPunk has some kind of input lag when in the browser. At any rate, I don't plan on using the system for Ludum Dare again.

Casino Jack: I stated that you could do that in the title screen. :P

Amongst Shadows by BlackBulletIV 2012-12-19T09:58:00

Thank you. I've actually never heard of Mark of the Ninja. This took inspiration from Dishonored, and in turn, the Thief series (though I've never played the latter).

Amongst Shadows by BlackBulletIV 2012-12-25T22:57:00

Thanks for the feedback guys.

TwilightFlandre:
Now that I've taken a look at some Mark of the Ninja gameplay, I can see what you and MarekkPie are saying; it is pretty similar.

As for the character similarity, that would make sense. I used a dark blue for the guards, and black for the player.

Well, now I'm thinking of actually doing some more with this game, although I'd want to remake it in Love2D, not FlashPunk; that would get rid of the input lag problem.

Amongst Shadows by BlackBulletIV 2012-12-27T01:45:00

Milo: Thanks. It's a shame about the input lag. I fear I may drop a point or two overall just because of that.

colincapurso: Yeah, I was going give some guards flashlights but didn't really have time to do so.

Sestren: I quite like the delay as well; they actually drop to their knees, then fall, although the drop is only one pixel down. Thanks for the feedback. :)

The Villains' Empire by Colapsydo 2012-12-25T02:40:00

After the small text intro, the game just stalled on a grey screen for me. Can't play it unfortunately.

The Villains' Empire by Colapsydo 2012-12-25T07:14:00

Ah I see, it works fine now.

I like the concept of being the enemy ships in bullet hell shooter. However, the controls weren't great, especially when it automatically switches the enemy you're assigned to (which caused me to lose right as I killed the boss).

X-Moon by leafo 2012-12-19T21:13:00

Wow, this is amazing. Best LD game I've played so far by a long shot. I found to be far too hard though; couldn't make it past level one. There was also some occasional artefacts flickering; a bunch of vertical white lines.

Nebula Marauders by wally2069 2012-12-31T10:02:00

I like the the idea. The gameplay is too slow for me; making it faster would have been good.

From dansludumdare's comment, I'm not sure if the lack of audio is intentional, but I didn't hear any.

The Banker by qualia 2012-12-18T10:08:00

Sorry if this seems stupid, but what do I do? I can't get past those people in the in the hallways. Am I supposed to interact with them somehow?

Real Eyes by colincapurso 2012-12-27T23:22:00

I'd really prefer to not have to use an installer.

Like Insects by eelfroth 2012-12-31T10:12:00

I love the style of this game; the visuals and sound work together in complementing the mood.

My main issues are with gameplay. Jumping is really tricky and enemies often land on top of you. Besides that, I really I wish you didn't force fullscreen. On my 2560x1440 monitor, it's *massively* pixelated.

But anyway, with a bit of polish, there's a lot of potential here.

Chronotography by Smitty333 2012-12-24T08:08:00

Got a blank command prompt as well. :(

Dr. Spackolo by cappelnord 2012-12-23T23:37:00

Ha ha, that was pretty funny. Nice job.

Super Evil Machine by Gareth Jenkins 2012-12-25T08:01:00

Wow, the music is amazing; really enjoyed it. The art style was pretty cool too. The gameplay was alright, but it kind of got boring quickly.

Hero Must Die by CireNeikual 2012-12-25T07:02:00

Wow, the AI was really good! I had a tonne of fun trying to outwit it.

On the negative side, the sound and graphics weren't very good, but the excellent AI makes up for it. I would've loved more levels too.

Overall, great job!

Dig-Dug Dungeon by bigbadwofl 2012-12-21T00:11:00

A wonderful game. The music was good, the graphics decent, and the gameplay was fun.

It would've been nice to be able to drag a selection of where you want the minions to dig; constantly clicking got annoying after a while.

Waldo by h.attila 2012-12-26T03:24:00

The gameplay got a little boring for me personally, but the concept is nice. Well done.

LD27 — 10 Seconds

NSA's Where's Snowden? by Will Edwards 2013-08-28T05:58:00

Wow, what an intricate game. I'm very impressed you managed to code a UI and SQL system within that timeframe. Must admit I didn't have the patience to see it through to completion, but I did experiment for some time (I think I missed the flight or something).

Anyway, well done.

Nelson by MunkeeBacon 2013-08-27T00:00:00

The music is great, and I like that "build-up" sound which plays in the last two seconds.

As for gameplay, let's just say it's WAY too hard to kill an enemy when starting off. It takes nearly the whole 10 seconds to do so, and there's not just a few enemies, there's 10-15 of them.

Also, I know it's probably the itch.io site, but having to go through a pay what you want system for a Ludum Dare game leaves a bad taste. I recommend just linking directly to the zip files.

Attack Force Deca by PIXEL^3 2013-09-12T10:37:00

A well-rounded entry, with good variety. Got stuck on that bomber vs turrets one. The boss behind the turrets wouldn't take damage.

Robotica by recursor 2013-08-28T05:34:00

Nice stuff. Love the music.

The Thief Stealer Robberies by jwolf 2013-09-12T10:28:00

The traps are a bit unclear/random, and the controls feel very rough (I'd have preferred to hold down the arrow keys). If the movement were smoother and it had more levels I feel it'd be an interesting game.

Defense of Your Craft by josefnpat 2013-08-26T08:59:00

Nice concept, even if I couldn't experience it in full (single-player). Took a while to get the hang of it. It'd be nice if the controls were displayed somewhere other than the intro screen.

Corn PoP by 01rafael 2013-09-04T01:13:00

Very interesting idea. The graphics seemed a bit off, but that might be because I'm playing it on a 2560x1440 screen (probably not a good idea to scale the SWF to the screen size).

Time and Time Again by BrothersT 2013-08-29T22:55:00

Great theme, graphics and design. It'd be awesome with some audio.

Problem is I have not a clue how to solve it, and I certainly don't have the patience to keep banging my head at this for hours. What am I meant to use for this anagram? The IOU message? The scratchings on the desk? The "test_" text on the other computer?

I Second that Motion by BomberGames 2013-09-12T10:23:00

A very interesting concept, although I found it wasn't clear how to keep track of preferences and the like, so it mainly a game of chance for me.

Time Crystal by Xaipher 2013-09-14T10:09:00

The music is awesome, and I like the concept. The game moves too slowly however, and the mechanics (such as gem capture and how units fight each other) isn't clear.

Inherity by foumart 2013-09-08T10:16:00

Although a little simplistic, the concept is very nice. Battle 3 seems to be impossible though.

Ten Second Samurai by Mclogenog 2013-08-28T04:41:00

A nice simple game, with good art and fun gameplay. However, as others have said, the difficulty ramped up way too fast.

Pube by magicdweedoo 2013-08-26T09:07:00

Ooook then...

Boxer's Seconds by madk 2013-08-26T07:41:00

I like the theme; it's an interesting twist. I just found the gameplay quite dull and drawn out. I suppose it might be better if I had a lot of time and weren't tired. :P

SF-1 by frogmaster 2013-09-16T10:09:00

Interesting concept. It wasn't implemented the best, as stuff will often just appear out of nowhere and shoot you out of the sky, but despite that, I had fun.

Quartz by Vavassor 2013-09-14T10:16:00

Very nice concept, good graphics, mood, and music. I did find the puzzles a bit frustrating, and it didn't take long to get stuck, but nice overall.

Fleeting Reality by LionelJitro 2013-08-28T04:27:00

Well, it's certainly interesting. The atmosphere was somewhat disquieting, which is more than can be said for any other game I've played thus far.

However, I find the concept is far too hard to grasp without reading the "spoiler", and even when you know what to do, the gameplay just doesn't feel satisfying at all.

Terminal 10 by alts 2013-08-29T11:25:00

Really like the minimalistic style. I have no idea how I'm meant to put the parachute on, but I quite enjoyed what I could complete.

Eggyventures by Antylum 2013-09-16T10:38:00

Overall it feels rather unpolished. One of the biggest issues is that the score often isn't properly added. The hand drawn art is interesting though.

10 Floors by Anshul Goyal 2013-08-28T05:29:00

It was hard to tell when I going to run into those red things. It's a bit too hard overall I think. And many times when it restarted, it would glitch out, saying "you are dead" are not letting me move. The graphics and audio are nice though.

Mission Mars by gre 2013-08-29T11:50:00

Interesting platforming mechanics, though I'm not a fan of restarting the entire game. I thought by "start at the beginning" you needed to restart each level. :/

Ten Seconds Is All This Should Take by hdon 2013-09-08T21:05:00

Seriously?

Frost by coreym1988 2013-08-26T07:46:00

The artwork is great. I only wish that the player would rotate, but given that the game is somewhat isometric, that's a tall ask.

Also, I would've let the bar regenerate at a certain rate, rather than instantly, when inside the chopper.

Five Seconds by Latcarf 2013-08-26T22:10:00

I like the concept. The controls were difficult to use, mainly because of the really fast moving player.

Point One Hurts by Tom 7 2013-09-03T11:25:00

I'm not entirely sure what was going. I think I'm meant to collect those numbered blocks. Eventually they stopped spawning entirely though.

Nice music and graphics by the way.

Lucid Journey by Purplescape 2013-08-28T06:06:00

Good music and interesting graphics, but 10 seconds just isn't enough. The player doesn't move fast enough and the collision with objects seems buggy.

How Low Can You Go? by Hayawi 2013-08-30T00:05:00

A cool concept. I had fun getting chased by those blue things. It doesn't really fit in with the 10 second theme though.

Cyanocide by nicotuason 2013-08-28T04:49:00

Man, that was really fun, and the graphics are so aesthetically pleasing.

I know you have a timer-based life system, but from I observed it's based more around 60 seconds than 10 seconds. Therefore I don't think it really fits the theme at all.

Aside from that, great game.

North Exit by kazukishida 2013-08-29T11:44:00

Ugh, I just can't complete that C puzzle. I've tried writing a C with both lights, moving in a C on the pad, jumping on the pad, moving towards all the light sources... nothing works. (Don't worry, I didn't rate your game.)

North Exit by kazukishida 2013-08-29T12:27:00

@kazukishida:

Oh wow, I never thought of that. Good lord, definitely the most scary LD game thus far. Playing it late(ish) at night doesn't help.

But anyway, nice job on the graphics, mood, and audio, even if it is short and doesn't fit the theme too well.

I look forward to hearing your feedback on mine.

Just 10 Seconds by ellipticaldoor 2013-08-28T05:12:00

The concept was confusing at first, and the character is pretty hard to control. I like the simple, minimalistic graphics though.

mircale_ten_second by xerysherry 2013-09-16T10:32:00

Nice concept. The AI seem a bit overpowered, as in, not smart, but just more powerful than you.

Grav Nav by lparker 2013-08-26T10:57:00

Took a while to get the hang of, but it was actually kinda fun once I did. The controls are somewhat unpolished though.

Couldn't get past level 7; there seems to be some kind of invisible barrier.

Target Down by nexust 2013-08-30T10:24:00

Well, I liked the shadows and the menu screen. I found the gameplay annoying as the enemy can see further than the screen and there's practically no cover any description.

Sleep Well by bassarisse 2013-09-08T21:39:00

The graphics and audio are nice. Creates a good mood. Gameplay wasn't particularly fun; I think the movement was a bit too slow and clunky.

Cyborg Rush by Markus Brand 2013-08-30T10:37:00

Getting the "main class main.main" error. :/

Mission Improbable by L0gicaL1nsanity 2013-09-16T10:34:00

Do I really have to install the game? Or does that installer just extract the files to a specific location?

Use it wisely by goodpaul6 2013-09-16T10:01:00

Love the concept. Unfortunately it felt a bit too hard and the controls were way too floaty.

Zdeno by duane.byer 2013-09-16T09:54:00

Far too hard, and very frustrating. From what I've seen it looked quite interesting; wish I could've completed it.

Stahlholz by Laguna 2013-09-16T10:11:00

Yeah, getting that MSVCR100D.dll error like most others.

Hackfield by Katamori 2013-08-26T23:50:00

Very confusing, especially at first. I'm guessing I was meant to collect those smaller bricks, and not run into the large bricks? It was somewhat enjoyable once I figured that out.

The tutorial doesn't give you time to read the instructions. Also, I recommend not making players sit through that very long bootup sequence every time they want to restart.

Prelude of the Vorpal Blade by oxysoft 2013-08-28T05:39:00

The pixel art is very nice, as is the music. A shame the game isn't complete.

Erfingi by olafurw 2013-08-29T23:28:00

Nice concept with the inheritance. The lighting and sounds certainly lend well to the mood. I did find it a little dull, mainly to running into no enemies after the first level (if I remember correctly).

10 Seconds to Apocalypse by donfabio 2013-08-29T10:54:00

Waaaay too hard. The controls are too floaty, and it seems one particularly bit is impossible to get past. Nevertheless it did keep me trying for a while, and the graphics are very nice.

Lurker by Plu 2013-08-26T21:13:00

The concept is quite cool, but it's a bit too tricky to control. The rotation seems off-axis a bit too, and it's pretty to stop yourself once you start spinning in any great measure.

Where Lights Never Wander by Puck 2013-08-28T23:21:00

The intro gave a nice sense of mood. It, in combination with the screenshot, kind of gave the impression that it would be a dark, moody game; thus I was a little disappointed when the game started and it turned out to be bright and happy.

I like the concept though; it's a shame you didn't have time to flesh it out.

10-Second Switch by oajfh 2013-08-29T22:27:00

Not entirely sure how it fits with theme (you mentioned something about 10 second difficult increases, or something?).

It's good that you took the time to write music, though I did find it somewhat jarring.

S.T.D. by GrimGary 2013-08-29T11:10:00

Well done on completing your first game.

That being said, I found that the difficulty ramped up far too slowly, and it was too easy in the beginning. The collision and movement also seemed a bit buggy.

10 Seconds to Doomsday by cbear_wallis 2013-09-03T11:30:00

Interesting idea, although the connection to the theme is a bit loose. Although too easy, it was still somewhat entertaining to play, more than can be said for some games.

Approaching Ten by Reverend Speed 2013-08-30T11:42:00

The lack of gameplay, audio, and theme is a real shame, but I was amazed by the environment you constructed.

Hadean Rampage by Zephyr89 2013-08-28T04:36:00

Wow, nice job! Probably the most fun entry I've played thus far. Graphics are very nice too.

Having now played your entry, I'm confused as to why you took issue with me using a literal ten seconds (well, actually three sets of ten seconds) in my own submission, since you also use a literal ten seconds (in a different way, of course).

Anyway, good job.

10 Seconds to escape by FireZenk 2013-08-26T21:20:00

Gameplay felt decent, but only having a single level is certainly a problem. Also I would've really liked it if you could just hold down the arrow keys to move.

10 Seconds to escape by FireZenk 2013-08-29T12:37:00

You're not allowed add new things to the game after release (such as levels). Or is it different for the jam?

Moondrop by nanotech 2013-08-29T23:17:00

The aesthetics are nice. The controls are too difficult to collect all of them in time I found.

Mechanical Madness by Thermite 2013-08-29T23:44:00

That was a really nice platformer. I really like the way you intertwined the strange powerups theme with 10 seconds.

Antidote by Antidote 2013-09-16T10:21:00

Wow, definitely the best game I've played thus far, but I suppose that's to be expected. Professional and polished all around. Bravo!

You will die. by HighQuality 2013-08-29T22:32:00

Wow, couldn't get past level 4. I like the concept of mouse control though. The minimalistic graphics are nice too.

I'd say the death sound is too loud in comparison to the music. It was pretty jarring whenever it played.

Way of the Gun by vrld 2013-08-28T05:08:00

Wow, I'm impressed. All around a well-polished game, with a great concept and graphics. The slightly dark/desperate atmosphere is very nice too.

Maze of Torment by shard123 2013-08-29T23:34:00

Didn't last too long, it's pretty difficult. But an interesting concept, and you did a good job in making the place relatively scary.

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-08-26T08:00:00

Thanks guys!

@Mclogenog The way I play the gunner and shield are about as useful as each other, but yeah, the demo is often more of a sideshow.

As for the single-character replays, yeah, I wanted to add that, but thought of it too late and ran out of time. I'll probably do some post-compo work, so that'll be high on the list.

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-08-26T10:15:00

kikito: Wow, thanks for catching that.

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-08-26T11:21:00

vrld: Sorry. I mentioned it on the Love2D forums, but I didn't feel it really applied here (as from what I can gauge, Ten Second War isn't very well known outside the Love2D community).

Anyway, thanks for the positive feedback.

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-08-26T20:57:00

Woah, I never realised you could shoot with your shield up. I'd consider that a near game-breaking bug, so I've fixed it.

Anyway, thank you all for the positive feedback. :)

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-08-28T06:28:00

Thanks for the feedback guys. I wish I'd recognised earlier that having to completely restart for any mistake was a really big issue; it's the one negative that keeps being brought up. If I make a post-compo version (which I most likely will), that'll definitely be fixed.

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-08-28T23:13:00

keyboardmonkey:

Is your computer particularly low-performance? The game creates a number of physics-driven particles to simulate a mini-explosion every time a player, enemy, missile, or weak wall dies/explodes. If that were the cause, then the game would hang even more when an enemy or missile explodes.

Also, what operating system are you running it on?

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-08-29T07:08:00

alts:

I've programmed it so that the game remembers when turrets are destroyed and will make sure they die at that time in the replays. It's same with "ghost" players; they can't be killed until the game goes past the time when they were killed (if it exists).

TL;DR: The replay system always works in your favour.

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-08-31T03:55:00

@Tom 7: That's interesting. I thought it was mainly about the shield and the gunner. I guess it all depends on how you play.

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-09-08T21:43:00

Latcarf: I made the music with a few synthesisers in Logic. Turned out alright for a 3 AM job. :P

foumart: Adding enemy movement to a game with overlapping time such as this introduces more complications that it might seem. It's something I'll try to do in the future though.

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-09-17T00:01:00

Oxygamer: I'm unsure what you mean by that.

A great, hard game; the concept is very cool. Loved the audio too.

Boyfriend Simulator: Feed My Boyfriend by leafo 2013-08-26T21:54:00

Very polished game, graphics are audio are great. Nicely done.

MYHORIZON by markengley 2013-08-29T23:49:00

Wow, that is such a cool concept, and implemented quite slickly too.

10.00s...10.00s...10.00s... by kirbytails7 2013-08-26T08:49:00

ToTheRescue by SaiKai 2013-08-28T23:42:00

That was awesome. Very fun. I love your use of the theme.

Deadline by Kharza 2013-08-29T12:13:00

Wow, nice job. I had fun with this one. The mood was good, and you certainly put some effort into the story.

ESC: The Game, the Experience by Spaceoff 2013-08-29T23:20:00

I love the graphics, and the platforming is pretty solid too. I got stuck pretty soon into though.

Combat Time!! by Sheepolution 2013-08-26T21:31:00

Ha ha, well this is amusing. The concept is good, and I like the chiptune music as well.

Combat Time!! by Sheepolution 2013-08-26T21:33:00

Also, I left the game sitting in the instructions for a while and I got the error screen. I downloaded the source and used the command line to run it, if you're wondering.

Off and On by gbear605 2013-08-30T00:26:00

A nice, simple concept. The lack of audio and a timer is a problem though.

KunoNoOni's Magical Star Saga by KunoNoOni 2013-09-03T11:20:00

Way too hard; it kind of felt unfair. I do the like the mechanic of jumping while falling, even though I couldn't really get used to it.

Card Smack by qualia 2013-08-28T23:35:00

Once I got past that strange crash bug, I found the game terribly confusing (yes I read the tutorial). Somehow I ended up winning. The game doesn't seem to communicate much who's winning, apart from in the console window. I did like the graphics though.

T-Minus by Keevor 2013-08-29T12:21:00

The graphics are good for the most part. The collision is a bit weird I think. Also, many times it would count down to 10, then the timer would reset and nothing would happen.

10 Second Crawl by Twistedsnail 2013-08-26T08:22:00

A neat concept. I didn't seem to be able to use my sword though.

Frozen Braid by blubberquark 2013-08-28T05:23:00

Your concept is excellent and the abundance of control of your soldier's actions is great (something my game didn't have). In practice however it feels somewhat bulky and convoluted (I guess the floaty controls don't help with that). Having two teams both subject to the dynamic system is really cool, but ends up being a bit messy I feel.

But nevertheless, well done on getting such a system complete within 48 hours.

ROBOT PLANET by GeorgeBroussard 2013-08-29T11:17:00

Damn, that was intense, and really fun. Probably my favourite game thus far. The audio, the graphics, the overall polish... it's all great.

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Who cares Entire Game? by bukt 2014-12-12T01:17:00

A highly unique take on the theme, but I'm afraid it just feels impossible to properly play.

Galactic Goat by ryguydavis 2014-12-09T22:47:00

Well polished arena game with good graphics and animations. Didn't have other people I could test it with, but I got the concept.

Cell #327 by Aurel Bílý 2014-12-26T23:42:00

Interesting game. Got a great mood to it, despite limited sound. Not sure why you've put the post-compo version with voices on this game page; it's a little misleading.

Blind Maze by FlashRocks 2014-12-10T23:39:00

Good lighting and some nice level design, but the spinning made the controls very hard to use.

To Continue by raincole 2014-12-08T08:00:00

Interesting concept and gameplay, but too hard in my opinion. Try as I might, I couldn't get past the first level.

OMNI by Noah Ratcliff 2014-12-26T23:19:00

Probably the best theme I've seen so far. Too hard for me, but the gameplay was still great.

OUTRANGE by Snuux 2014-12-08T08:05:00

I like the minimalistic graphics. It gives a good aesthetic. Gameplay was somewhat interesting, but lacked variety.

Don't you touch da bouncy by Phyyl 2014-12-11T00:42:00

Nice gameplay. Would've been a lot better if you had more time to devote to it.

Screen of Infinite Detail by Snicklodocus 2014-12-11T00:26:00

Wasn't sure as to what powerups did or what the score meant. Graphics were nice and polished though. I really loved how it zoomed in on the player. It seemed to convey a cinematic feeling of helplessness.

Life is not a Game by Gwilym 2014-12-12T02:06:00

Love the concept! Eventually I got tired of manually placing things and just watched my colony evolve. It looked like it was primed for domination and then suddenly it began eating itself down and was promptly finished off by the straggling blue colonies. Fun to watch.

20 Days at Sea by bitserum 2014-12-26T23:13:00

Great graphics and theme. Nicely polished as well.

Tyrannicide by koujaku 2014-12-26T23:04:00

Very nice, polished game with a great mechanic. A shame it wasn't longer.

Screen Space: 0 by noahm 2014-12-08T09:27:00

Interesting concept. Everything got so tiny after a few resets though.

The Floor is Lava by Slashee the Cow 2014-12-09T01:42:00

I like the concept. Gameplay is reasonably fun also, though the controls feel a bit floaty, and the camera angle makes it very hard to tell which blocks are higher.

Oshters Fishers by Manou 2014-12-10T23:54:00

Great graphics and good mood thanks to music. The gameplay is a bit lacking, and without reading your guide outside the game, it's unclear what to do.

Law Breaker by deepnight 2014-12-08T10:53:00

Very well polished and beautiful looking game as expected. The game's only glaring issue (unless my flash player is messing up) is its lack of sound effects.

Wide Opened Eyes by nzgiije 2014-12-26T22:58:00

Holy shit, this scared me a couple times. Excellent mood. A bug I noticed was where the monsters were just within range, the musical "hit" would trigger many, many times.

Jackin by eforen 2014-12-08T07:11:00

I like the idea behind it and would love to see this fleshed out, but it really doesn't seem implemented at all (unless I'm missing something). Only thing I could do was register and type in hack (spacebar doesn't even work, so I couldn't target IPs).

Assault Team Giga Omikron: Total Mercenary by andreaswitzen 2014-12-09T05:20:00

Graphics are nice. Gameplay was frustrating because *every* shot would miss, except for those of the sniper.

Litelane by furriKira 2014-12-13T00:55:00

Every aspect of the game is very nicely polished.

Flight of the Night by popcorn897 2014-12-13T01:01:00

Had a good mood to it, with nice graphics. A shame the background sounds didn't loop, would've helped with the mood even more. I don't see how this fits with the theme though.

Do you want to kill a snowman? by iMer 2014-12-13T01:09:00

Nice and fun.

Emporium of Death and Laughter by talecrafter 2014-12-09T02:03:00

Nice gameplay with well polished graphics. Was hard to aim sometimes, as has been mentioned.

Snowman Invasion by Jaloko 2014-12-26T12:38:00

Solid and fun tower defence game. Graphics could use a little more polish I think.

Panoptes by vrld 2014-12-09T02:28:00

Best game I've rated thus far. Stellar use of the theme and a really polished final product. Great job!

Faction Master by akirassasin 2014-12-26T12:26:00

Some interesting semi-strategy mechanics in there. A little too minimalistic in presentation, but it has a solid foundation.

Bullet Beat by ekun 2014-12-11T00:39:00

Love the gameplay concept. Very challenging.

Kevin's uncommon story by Zimennik 2014-12-09T03:59:00

Great graphics, concept, and gameplay.

The Operator by little-burrito 2014-12-26T12:34:00

Great concept. I've seen a console concept before, but this one was far more fleshed out and fun to use. A shame you couldn't finish your idea.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-08T03:17:00

Excellent. I'll test it myself tonight, or whenever I've managed to get some rest.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-08T07:40:00

Damn. I'll look into it shortly. If anyone else is getting errors, let me know.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-08T07:52:00

erik, raincole: Uploading the fix as I type. Try now.

benmcnelly: Thanks. Lighting and sound are incredibly powerful tools.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-08T08:35:00

I know people who've already commented won't read this, but if you encounter a glitch/crash please try to give details. It'd really help me determine if I can fix it.

Anyway, thanks a bunch for the feedback guys.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-08T22:04:00

jepster: Yes, that's a feature. Spoilers: going right would've given you the "ending", which is what the narrator didn't want. Which one you choose depends on how much trust the player has for the narrator.

vekjeft: You're right. I was going for realism (as real guns are deafening), but it did end up a tad too loud.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-10T02:23:00

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds like I made the game a bit too hard *once again*. Remember, if you can't get through a level, press = to skip to the next (this may mess with the sequence of things a bit, but it should work 9/10 times).

I did intend a little confusion, though not as much as it sounds like some people are having finding the exits. Hard to judge how hard it'll be when you've built the levels.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-11T01:20:00

p1x3lruckus: Is this on level one? I know you probably won't see this, but if anyone else experiences the same thing, could I get more of a description of what you were doing/trying around the time it wouldn't turn on?

Glad to hear you guys are enjoying the game.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-11T06:14:00

My recommendations would be:
* First, try to move your mouse around and moving the character if you haven't already.
* Second, switch the level forward with = and then back again with - (or just keep it at level 2).

If those combined with starting the game again, then I have no idea what's going on. I haven't been able to reproduce the bug myself.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-11T07:21:00

A shame we couldn't get it to work. The game uses two OpenGL shaders, one of which does part of the lighting. LÖVE and the game itself should check for incompatibilities, but it's possible your graphics card reported its compatibility wrong or something. I dunno; it's weird.

Floor is Lava by sepharoth213 2014-12-08T07:16:00

Graphics are nice, though as has been mentioned, the controls are a bit unresponsive and the perspective can make it hard to tell what is a solid surface.

RGB by Conk 2014-12-09T02:46:00

Great gameplay; fun and challenging with good mechanics.

Eschaton by klave 2014-12-09T12:07:00

I like the story; it had a dark mood to it. The game got stuck at Act 3, part 1.

Clear Screen by Valtaroth 2014-12-09T01:58:00

Great game! The take on them and its execution is really good.

7 Days of War by error031 2014-12-09T03:10:00

Nice graphics and gameplay. The bomb's proably should've been more deadly and less frequent though.

Sector 82 by Wayward 2014-12-09T02:14:00

Interesting little story with good atmosphere.

Christmas Robber by DavidLv 2014-12-08T07:30:00

Some pretty neat graphics and an interesting concept, though I felt smoothness in gameplay was lacking.

Mechanism by p1x3lruckus 2014-12-13T00:31:00

Graphics, sound, and gameplay are all nicely done. It's very simple, but it works.

EGOS by Mopz 2014-12-08T07:37:00

Wow that was really fun. Kept me playing for a high score.

Road to Heaven by frenzyasii 2014-12-09T02:39:00

Great graphics. Not so fussed on the gameplay, but it was alright.

One New Message From Sam by jepster 2014-12-09T02:19:00

Nice graphics and a great take on the theme, but the gameplay of mashing LMB got tiring.

I don't like Sectors by RonnyEGT 2014-12-10T23:46:00

Nice little arcade game, quite challenging. It took me a long time to realise that the "red flash" with the ticking sound didn't mean I was taking damage.

Game System by Catwheel 2014-12-09T01:50:00

Good concept, though the games themselves felt a bit rushed.

STS (Simple TopDown Shooter) by TheScragglyMan 2014-12-10T23:58:00

Nice graphics and gameplay. It was actually a little difficult (not a bad thing), even with that teleport feature.

SwitchCubes by erik 2014-12-08T08:12:00

Great concept! Would've liked to have seen it fleshed out more.

A note on the controls: I found the player movement way too fast, making control a little difficult.

Impossible Tower by Raptor85 2014-12-08T07:26:00

A great puzzler-concept, even though it doesn't precisely fit the theme. Controls and tile collision felt a bit off though.

Orion by feiss 2014-12-12T00:00:00

Amazing graphics with a great atmosphere to it. A shame it was so short.

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Get Off, Cat! by josefnpat 2015-12-15T00:19:00

Quite amusing. I imagine you had some fun recording those sound effects. :P

Full Metal Democracy by deepnight 2016-01-02T14:00:00

Beautiful graphics and the gameplay is pretty good (especially with the strategic switching of robots). It did some more sound effects and levels to be seriously polished though. Still a great job.

Agent Hooker by Phoenix849 2015-12-28T12:13:00

Brilliant game! Got rather hard pretty quick, but still, wonderful work.

Robot Frost Eagle and Worm Big Rescue Adventure by sP0CkEr2 2015-12-28T05:44:00

Pretty cool concept and decent graphics. Nice job.

Neon City Getaway by manabreak 2015-12-14T07:01:00

Had quite a bit of fun with the movement mechanics. Nice graphics too.

Cordinatos by PTSnoop 2015-12-28T11:32:00

Very good for two hours work, a good minimal aesthetic with an original concept.

CLON by Boberro 2016-01-02T10:49:00

Links don't seem to be working again.

Snowman Builder Extreme by zenmumbler 2016-01-01T01:45:00

I probably found the snowman with five top hats more amusing than I should. Well done, nice game.

Snek by Esenti 2016-01-01T23:39:00

No ability to restart really hurt this game, but I really like the idea and the visuals were minimal but smooth.

Subject Is Compliant, Subject Is Defiant by Christina Nordlander 2016-01-02T00:29:00

Great stuff. I like this take on interactive fiction. Had a great mood to it too.

Unknown by Eshford 2015-12-14T11:11:00

Good concept, visuals, and execution. It's simple, but an excellent game overall.

I've Bean Stalking You by Artylo 2015-12-14T10:26:00

I went directly to the game's repo and downloaded it from there, but you really should fix that link.

Overall it runs fine (apart from a couple collision bugs), though I do wish there was more depth to combat than hacking at passive enemies.

Star Eater by keyboardmonkey 2015-12-20T12:03:00

Not much too it, but I found this pleasant, even amusing (got a chuckle out of the character walking on his eyes), to play. Well done.

PinFootBall by wdebowicz 2015-12-22T11:36:00

Very finicky, and scoring is a bit buggy, but still so fun to play! With some improvement this would be something great. Also loved the crowd sounds.

CELL - Φ by Kerdelos 2016-01-02T00:19:00

Great concept, with nice music and minimalist graphics.

ScrapFighter by aplomb 2015-12-28T08:11:00

Surprisingly had a lot of fun, even if it was difficult. Would be a lot better with sound.

Let's Play Simulator 2016 by zulman 2015-12-14T11:39:00

Very interesting concept, though it seemed based heavily on chance (maybe I'm just bad). Nice graphics though, and amusing satire on LPers.

Spectral Sprinter by Acuity 2016-01-01T23:35:00

Great music and implementation of the theme. Found it really hard though.

A Mold's Life by vrld 2015-12-20T12:42:00

Interesting concept (very well fit for the themes) and good graphics. Held my attention for quite a while.

SvardBjorn by Windmill Games 2015-12-22T11:00:00

Wow! Great game guys. The artwork is brilliant, the gameplay fun, and the music sets a nice rocking mood. Splendid.

Super Space Invader by BlackBulletIV 2015-12-15T13:33:00

Thanks for the positive feedback guys! Sounds like I did a better job at the difficulty than my previous entries.

@josefnpat: Yeah, love.graphics.newParticleSystem sure got a workout.

@PotatoGrader: Yeah, I kinda had to cram the wave scripts at the end, so they're far from perfect. I also know what you're talking about with getting stuck in the corner. Not sure if it needs altering though, as annoying as it can be, since you can escape with your shield. Thank you for the critical analysis, of course.

Super Space Invader by BlackBulletIV 2015-12-28T09:21:00

Thank you all for the positive feedback. I appreciate it.

@hunttis: Well the strategy to get past the boss is to move suddenly to create small gaps in the bullet stream (since it compensates its angle immediately). I certainly understand that such strategies and that you need defensive upgrades for later down the line are perhaps not as obvious as they should be.

@BlazzGuy: Yeah I would've liked to add more music tracks, but there's only so much I could do. I'll keep your advice in mind if I make a post-compo version; try vary the explosion soundscape a bit too.

Super Space Invader by BlackBulletIV 2016-01-01T03:51:00

Thanks again for the feedback guys.

@acotis: Not sure about the choppiness (never heard of that problem before, even on Linux), but the error is generally caused by your system having an outdated version of LOVE installed (likely 0.9.1). Due to functions like that it require 0.9.2.

Super Space Invader by BlackBulletIV 2016-01-02T09:41:00

@Wumbo: Lol, I think you posted two reviews here. I was thinking, "wait, there's a story in my game?" But I'm flattered that you invested an hour into the game. A shame it was too difficult. I think next time I'd try to work in easy/normal/hard modes, as some people are saying the game is a little easy, while others are saying it's very hard. I hope you tried sandbox mode though.

Deceit by xWarZonex 2015-12-28T06:20:00

Great audio and atmosphere! For constructive criticism, controls were somewhat buggy and the implementation of theme is very weak (I didn't even notice the eye's power growing).

Also, I'd advise against telling people how to rate something. Not saying I didn't rate audio highly because of it, just that it comes off poorly.

SUPER SCIENCE CORP by Hot Box Games 2015-12-28T05:55:00

Very nice! Good graphics and a great mood. Narration was a nice touch.

Did get stuck in level 2 just before the corridor heading south. I hadn't killed every enemy yet and attempted to go through the door. He said he couldn't open it, but the camera had already switched and wouldn't switch back.

Slimevasion by mar3k 2015-12-28T08:28:00

Nice graphical style. Shooting mechanics would be improved by allowing it to be 360 degree (exactly where the mouse is point).

Double Helix by BroCade 2016-01-02T10:49:00

Really surprised you disallowed audio ratings. The different tracks of music was great! The concept, graphics, and execution were all great too. Well done!

A couple of things though. Starting back on the menu with the last level attempted selected, or having a restart button would be nice. Also, the "miss" screen seemed to appear even though I successfully got the nucleotide.

Complete Control by Mikhail 2015-12-28T08:40:00

Dunno if I'm doing something wrong, but I cannot win a war. Literally declaring war on 2-tiled enemies that I have greater power and income than and still losing every time. I do like the notion of the game though, and the music was nice.

Grone by Dokthar 2015-12-28T12:00:00

Amazing atmosphere. I like how different points in the world contribute different parts of the "music". Doesn't fit the theme that much though.

Pikki by RockhopperGames 2016-01-02T10:53:00

I like the concept, especially how the creature adapts to what you eat. Would've been nice to see it fleshed out more.

Dangomari by Karai17 2015-12-28T06:06:00

Controls felt unintuitive. Autorolling with left and right controls would've worked better and fit the two-button theme. Still, I am impressed at 3D in a 2D engine.

Dizzy Dazzle by Tselmek 2016-01-01T02:03:00

Had a lot of fun trying to improve on this one. Great mechanic. Very polished game overall.

Interstellar Cruise by Drauthius 2015-12-20T11:57:00

Very original concept with nice graphics. I found the difficulty to be very frustrating though, as I just couldn't avoid going to bankruptcy in the early stages trying to placate all the needs. Perhaps I was overbuilding, I dunno.

Swarmonian Explorer by Teekeks 2015-12-14T08:49:00

A very interesting concept! Props for innovation. With a some more work this could really be something nice.

Antibounce by TurtleP 2015-12-20T12:20:00

Nice little game with smooth graphics. Spikes are too unforgiving though, as others have mentioned.

TreePlanting Simulator by Cursed Embassy 2016-01-01T01:51:00

I like the graphics and music, but it really needs some gameplay other than pressing E once.

Surface by Porcus_Pie 2015-12-14T08:29:00

I like the concept, but the game is buggy as all hell. My player got stuck many times forcing me to restart from the beginning.

On a strong point, the lighting and background static really helped give a dark mood.

Rotundum by paraxite 2015-12-15T00:26:00

Interesting concept with a good increase in difficulty. The controls did feel difficult to adjust to, though I recognise there's not much you can do though with full 2D steering and only two buttons.

Super Wall Jump by Peekotus 2015-12-30T08:49:00

Far too difficult, but I like the concept and graphics.

Punch Beat by AboLD 2015-12-22T11:22:00

Great visuals and interesting gameplay. I found it difficult to work out the combo moves though.

Don't Be FAT by Mr_Fudd 2015-12-30T11:29:00

Very funny! I like the take on the themes too.

MapleCopter by TheBreakfast 2015-12-30T11:51:00

Lovely music and fun gameplay. Kinda needed another button to fit the theme though.

FleshTotem by 14Hertz 2015-12-22T11:14:00

Very fun! I do wish I wouldn't lose a stack of corpses because one died.

Soup by utgarda 2016-01-01T01:42:00

Very fun. The music and graphics were nice too.

Squares by Piepenguin1995 2015-12-14T10:36:00

Very addictive. There's not much to the game, but what is there is implemented very smoothly. Well done.

Rogue Blast by Tjakka5 2015-12-15T02:15:00

More fun than I thought it would be, though I'm not quite sure how it fits either theme. Music was good though.

32r by Allthebees 2015-12-28T11:10:00

Very engrossing atmosphere. A shame it was so short. I was looking forward answering more questions.

Fast West by Emkiusz 2015-12-28T11:38:00

Very nice concept. Should've put it up for audio rating as that's not bad either.

Roll-Ball by mukult 2015-12-14T10:10:00

Very simple concept rather pleasantly executed. A little hard for my taste, due in large part to the camera angle, as others have mentioned.

Laser Jump FTW by Crashmore Studios 2016-01-01T02:22:00

Brutally hard, but still fun and with a nice concept.

Midnight Rendezvous by squarebridges 2015-12-15T06:48:00

Very unique concept. The night went a bit quick for my taste, but I still managed five.

Wings of the World Tree by hydancer 2015-12-20T12:59:00

Very nice pixel art and music. The mechanic felt difficult to grasp though, especially as the game went on.

LD37 — One room

DISCOCUBE by BathPirate 2016-12-13T09:51:00

Wow, great game guys! Very well polished in all areas.

Interrogation Room by DiscoFish 2016-12-14T12:28:00

Fantastic man! I loved it. Great mood and graphics.

The Coin Collector by mediocrity 2016-12-14T12:20:00

Haha, this amused me. Kept me playing for longer than it should too.

Back To Your Room by jramell 2016-12-31T05:15:00

Very nice pixel art, and decent platforming controls (even if some of the jumps are very hard). Bouncing on a lizard's corpse like a trampoline will never not be funny.

O No! She's Grabbing the Mic! by youngbrothers 2016-12-28T12:40:00

Hahaha, I was laughing before I even played it! Good game man.

The Boxing Ring by Haveachin 2016-12-31T05:00:00

Nice concept here with pleasant graphics, though it does feel a bit easy since they all spawn on the left side it seems.

DarkLight by Minato4th 2016-12-25T08:31:00

An intriguing abstract concept you've got here. Reminds me of Antichamber a bit.

Cat and Robot by Vadim Ivshin 2016-12-15T10:02:00

Haha, this was an amusing entry. Engaging game mechanic too.

hoplitelite by Attrition 2017-01-02T00:16:00

Very nice puzzler concept with decent graphics too. Well done.

Window Crawler by Chao 2016-12-28T12:55:00

Wow! This is definitely the most innovative I've played so far; really clever the way you've done it. I would gripe however that because of how small the windows are, it's so easy to click to another one in the middle of battle, causing me to quickly die. Would also appreciate a way to quickly restart the game (closing all but the main window) within the game. That said, great game, nice graphics too.

Escape the Room by CoderDozer 2016-12-31T03:05:00

Ha, Pachelbel's Canon was amusing. Very hard game though, especially with the twitchy controls. Maybe lower gravity a tad?

The Barn by tinykidtoo 2016-12-13T09:33:00

Nice graphics and a good atmosphere to it. Would be helpful if you listed the controls somewhere to make getting started quicker. Also wasn't able to exit from the code entering screen, which was annoying.

Xenopunch by Pietro Ferrantelli 2016-12-31T11:20:00

Wow amazing game! Brilliant graphics gameplay, and decent use of the theme.

Sight by alfie275 2016-12-31T05:10:00

Wow, this was a really trippy experience. Going in the blind with all the changes occurring gave it such a great mood.

ORSSST by Insederec 2016-12-25T08:38:00

A shame you ran into problems; nice that you explained in game why it didn't relate to the theme. Java certainly isn't the easiest choice. Keep learning and you'll get there though.

Prison Inspector by Hamsternator 2016-12-28T12:45:00

I really like your take on the theme, and that it does vary between sessions. Could always use more variations of course, but you've definitely put together something decent.

The Library of Babel by Ancient_Pixel 2016-12-25T08:45:00

Great concept here, with good art too. A shame you couldn't get it feature complete.

Masquerade by xWarZonex 2016-12-25T08:24:00

I can see where most of the time went; the music was great. Interesting mechanic too.

One room apartment by hunttis 2016-12-14T23:08:00

Definitely amused me, the concept of a timer being a gross factor. You should definitely scale up the graphics though to make it easier to see.

This One Room by MoonlightBomber 2016-12-13T10:58:00

Very impressed by the UI, with even a full-fledged options menu. Every aspect of this is well made except for the story and gameplay; it dragged too much and the flow was hurt by the constant fourth wall breaks ("no sexual content", etc.). Also having no interaction was a shame. Fix those up and you would definitely have me interested.

Game clearly has a great atmosphere, which is helped by the visual style. Unfortunately it's just not made clear enough what objects are interactive or not; also I don't think walls are clearly defined enough.

Final Boss by Karai17 2016-12-21T23:34:00

Graphics look great; always impressive using a 2D engine to render the 3D scenes. The attack controls felt pretty clunky though, making the boss fight overly hard imo.

Great game! Love the physics on the craft, and that you have different drivers/ships. As has been suggested ghost replay of your best lap would be an amazing addition.

AREA 51 by Megalink 2016-12-14T12:00:00

Nice amount of content here, and pretty neat graphics too. One complaint would be having enemies respawn every time you switch from a room you've cleared; accidentally went through an exit multiple times while backtracking in a fight.

Very amusing theme, and a good and fun implementation of it too!

Karate Basketball by SeaDads 2016-12-31T03:59:00

Hahahaha, this is too perfect! Who knew Draymond could sink 10 half court shots in a row after practicing his natural shooting motion, and Delly could dunk on fools. I love everything about this.

Echo Chamber by masterkrepta 2016-12-28T12:29:00

I like the concept you've got here. Controls felt a bit wonky, would've like to control rotation with the mouse, but they worked well enough as is once I got used to it.

The Living Room by smaganik 2016-12-21T23:22:00

Great concept, brilliant graphics.

One Room Factory by Zgragselus 2016-12-31T03:22:00

Gotta hand it to you, this game is quite in-depth for the time spent on it. Looks very pretty too, and UI is clean. Well done!

Escape Your Room by AthelGS 2016-12-28T13:01:00

Not bad first attempt man. It was short but cohesive, and the computer bit (that fullscreen too) was quite cool.

Alone In Space by Mango Malarkey 2016-12-14T12:10:00

I love the concept you've gone with here! I think, however, that speeding everything up from combat to your character move would've gone a long way to making the gameplay more satisfying.

Interesting puzzle mechanic you've got here.

I'm intrigued that you say LOVE isn't good for game jams. It's definitely been my favourite for a number of years.
