LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Blocked by Pinpickle 2014-12-08T08:58:00

I'll join the chorus and give this game two thumbs up! And the platforming section a thumb down. I only managed to beat it once. Oh, and my score was 151.

Of the 9 or so games I played already, this is the first I want to keep playing. Oh, and the music is really good!

Not Making It by Mattias Wargren 2014-12-08T14:14:00

Great music, great art style. His dance moves are infectious!
The placement of the buttons in the logo don't match their placement on a QWERTY keyboard, so it really messed up my brain!

Cursed Islands 2 by rzuf 2014-12-08T09:20:00

Damn, this game is hard! But I really enjoy the art style! Add some sound, fix your handwriting and you've got a solid thing going on!

Dissidence by caporaltito 2014-12-08T09:28:00

I was intending to write my own comment, but everything Tonasz says is what I would write. Great aesthetics, nice idea, few glitches.
Develop this some more, and show it to the world!

The Screen Pass by Tater_hater 2014-12-08T08:52:00

139 yards! Not bad for a european, huh?

I think that with some more variation, e.g. different players, other movement patterns, and a way to tackle, the game would be fun for more than just a minute.

And, as madlee says, neat perspective. I'm a sucker for 2D characters in 3D space.

Simple Geometry by olligobber 2014-12-08T13:23:00

Damn, no web or mac :(

Neverending Snow by LittleThor 2014-12-08T09:03:00

I keep getting "Bad File Length" as an error message, when I try to load it in Web Player on Firefox :/ It's a shame, because this game looks great!

oYo by TagliatL 2014-12-08T13:22:00

It's such a shame that this game doesn't have sound, because it would've easily made my Top 3, if it did! But it's still in my Top 4 :)
The menu animations were so smooth and cool. Good job!

The Floor is Lava by Slashee the Cow 2014-12-08T09:11:00

I really like how polished the game feels! It was fun, challenging and nice to look at.
Like the others, I found it a bit difficult to figure out the height of the other platforms.

HexaQuest by qleonetti 2014-12-08T10:47:00

This is very nice! The idea is very neat, and there's definitely room to develop it further!

I found out that it was actually possible to attack, get potions and climb stairs, even though I was not close to the right hexagon.
And once you reach lvl 4, everything is dead in one hit.

If you spend time on tweaking, adding and perfecting the combat system, I think something very cool could come out of this! Oh, and sound! Sound is essential to any great game!

Off Screen by Bogden 2014-12-12T08:59:00

Holy shit, this game is so addicting! And so goddamn annoying! In a really, really good way!
10/10 would smash computer again.

Maze Escape by Gins 2014-12-12T09:14:00

This is one of the more obvious understandings of the theme, and I think most people would have done, but had a hard time making it interesting. You, however, made it very interesting.

A good, solid platformer with stellar level design!

Kill Your Thoughts by SuperChihuahua 2014-12-08T08:44:00

First try: Reverse drove off the screen.
Second try: Forward drove off the screen.
Third try: Killed my thoughts, although I don't know how since my aim was crap.
Fourth try: Forward drove off the screen.

Harvestier by killthealias 2014-12-08T09:53:00

It won't open on OS X Yosemite unfortunately, because it looks good!

Midnight Delivery by CamillaHorne 2014-12-09T15:46:00

Ooooh, a Danish game! Must be good then! *plays game*

Ooooh, it was good! The transitions are a nice touch!
As for the overall design, it was very good. The levels progressed in the perfect manner, either teaching you new tricks or asking to use the new tricks in a challenging way.

Good job, you two!

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-08T14:40:00

You were right! I like it! By looking at the screenshots, I didn't think I would like it as much as I did! It's really great, and the audio is stellar! The gun has the perfect amount of reverb! And I can confirm it works on OS X for me :)

I did have one issue; I got reverted back to the beginning of the game after choosing to go "Left". But now that I think about it, that might have been my destiny all along :)

Snowbert by spacedoubt 2014-12-08T09:07:00

I'll write this comment like the game: short and sweet.

Animal Roar by gillenew 2014-12-08T09:33:00

Best art I've seen so far! I really like the lil fella, he's cuddly!

I actually did find some use for the attack, since it makes the slimy dudes turn around, but I generally agree that it needs some more work.

I really can't figure out whether I like the music or not. I think it feels a bit too dark for the overall feel of the game?

Oh, and I found the snowman :)

Rescue the princess by eruiz00 2014-12-12T09:16:00

Aww, I can't execute the .jar file on my OS X Yosemite :( I'll try the web version later!

Screen Limiter by The Pelranthean 2014-12-08T08:28:00

I like the idea!
Obviously, there's some stuff to work on, graphics, sound, but you managed to make a (procedural?) game that perfectly explains your idea.

As for the gameplay, I reached level 23, and died mostly because I had a hard time seeing my movement, because it had zoomed out so much.

Flailing Arm Ninja vs Pirates! by RougeRogue 2014-12-09T16:12:00

Is a Mac port within reach?

Little Snow World by rsergiu2003 2014-12-08T08:33:00

It was fun controlling the car, and the mood of the game is nice and christmas-y.
The sounds were quite annoying though. Might consider turning down the volume a bit.

Noman's Dungeon by dorkster 2014-12-08T09:12:00

I agree with rsergiu2003! I want to play this!

Party Pleaser by Matthew Rayfield 2014-12-08T10:32:00

My favorite part about this game was watching the door open. It wrinkled my brain every time.
Or maybe my favorite part was changing the tv three times in a row, because people couldn't agree on which spiral they wanted to watch.
Actually, no, my favorite part was giving a soda to a guy a second too late, after which he would just grab it and leave.

I really liked this game. I even liked losing at it, because the losing sound is so great.

Keep it on the screen! by BabaJaga 2014-12-08T10:11:00

Oh man, this is such a great idea! I would absolutely love to see a more fleshed out version of this!
You really hit the nail on the head with the theme!

One New Message From Sam by jepster 2014-12-08T10:01:00

I tried keeping the instructions as subtle as possible (which Matthew cleverly noticed). You have to mash the bacteria on your screen to prevent your battery from running out. This is also very likely the reason why you have issues with the framerate.
As you break the bacteria, the framerate stabilizes. But I'll still have to look into how to prevent that altogether.

Ah, and it might freeze up shortly after you go to the "Messages" screen. Just wait it out, it unfreezes after a couple of seconds.

One New Message From Sam by jepster 2014-12-09T08:08:00

I'm getting so much great feedback! I really appreciate it! Keep it coming! :)

One New Message From Sam by jepster 2014-12-10T04:34:00

I'm so glad to hear the narrative kept you intrigued despite it being a "clickfest" (great phrasing btw).
Oh, and Frozen Fractal, thanks for the heads up, the links are now fixed!

One New Message From Sam by jepster 2014-12-14T09:18:00

I was unsure about the LD rules, but it seems I was allowed to fix lag issues, so I tried to do that.
If you still experience lag like my other lovely playtesters/fellow jammers, then please give me the details!

Thanks for all the nice comments! I am so happy that you enjoy the story, it was probably my biggest leap of faith in this game production.

Get Bigger! by admix 2014-12-09T16:09:00

Woo, this was great! I had some trouble judging the sizes of the different objects, and having to restart every time was quite annoying, but I still loved it!
