LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

All the World by Cosmologicon 2014-12-08T04:14:00

I really liked this implementation of the theme, and it was all quite well executed. I know you have a little more guidance in the easy mode, but remembering how to get your way around is a tad confusing.

I suppose its part of the game to accidentally destroy a boss killer before the boss is out?

Blocked by Pinpickle 2014-12-08T09:03:00

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Sorry about the "ice" physics. This is after I have toned down the iciness. I considered it more of a mechanic because the jumps themselves aren't really that hard and I didn't have the time to make smarter platform generation.

Starting to wonder if this would count as a "typo" fix...

Snow Problem by TehSkull 2014-12-11T05:41:00

Genuinely terrifying.

MicroChess by feizenbara 2014-12-09T08:30:00

This really requires you to think, which is good if its a puzzle game. Good concept.

Shellshock by madlee 2014-12-08T04:57:00

This is a neat idea, though the theme isn't extremely prevalent. I see what you mean about it being short, but it looks like there is a solid framework there, everything is smooth and shiny and makes sense!

Super Engine Blast by savethejets1 2014-12-11T05:18:00

It's a good twist on the typical match 3 game.

A colourblind mode would go well for people like me, I had trouble telling the difference between some of the blocks.

The Last Standwich by Lawls 2014-12-08T04:49:00

Cool idea, surprisingly difficult. Would be nice to know what the zombies are holding before you kill them though.

I was having a few performance issues. HTML5 gaming is still in its infancy.

DotHop by Teejay5 2014-12-11T08:45:00

The mechanic is really interesting, but the hopping was unpredictable in some ways. Visuals are spot on.

Escape the Bug Screen by angela 2014-12-09T05:43:00

The cup graphic wouldn't load for me the first time, which did stump me. Fortunately refreshing solved the issue.

This point and click didn't have me getting as mad as other ones do, though I did have to consult the walkthrough. I enjoyed this.

Tavern King by deathray 2014-12-11T05:55:00

Compo version is throwing an error "Could not initialise RocketBoots" in the console.
Tried the post-compo version and it looks really nice.

Stalactite by Lycaon 2014-12-11T08:18:00

I think you should give yourself some more credit than you do in the description, it's a game and you made it for LD which is an achievement in an of itself.

But yes, it could do with a few more features!

Planet Crasher by ThunderAwesome 2014-12-12T03:28:00

The soundscape is something! I had some difficulty with the controls on a touchpad. I like the frantic-ness of it.

Full English Breakfast by Ian MacLarty 2014-12-11T08:11:00

Breakfast at its finest.

Deja Vu by egos 2014-12-08T04:53:00

This is a great way to make a fairly small level look, well, infinite. Does get a tad repetitive after a while though.

Play Area by Halleflux 2014-12-08T04:43:00

Really quite cool, and a very different approach to the theme. I was very happy to finish it to the end and wished there was more! But that's what post-game work is for.

I agree with the sentiments that things may have been better explained without words in-game.

Sky Organ by internetpaulicy 2014-12-08T04:21:00

I have never felt closer to my keyboard than this moment.

Avoid Rage by jackrugile 2014-12-12T23:18:00

Very slick indeed - you should give extra points for moving to the beat because I was trying to make my own drummer with my square character.
I got to 93.

ASDF ASDF by alesys 2014-12-08T04:25:00

It definitely has that gameboy feel in terms of the graphics, and the sounds make me think of a gameshow (in a good way).

I do yearn to get to the top of the level, does that happen further on in the game or is it not possible because you didn't have time to do the upgrades?

Fighting system is pretty solid.

gene by mpath 2014-12-08T18:58:00

Very original, I'm not entirely sure what's going on but it feels intuitive enough.
Very clean source considering you've got it all in 60 lines!

Super Arena Hell! by randomdragoon 2014-12-08T03:06:00

Things do get pretty crazy, though I think maybe a little bit too fast. Games like these end when we lose control and I hardly hit 10000 points before then.

But I suppose that's what practice is for. Mechanics are pretty solid!

oYo by TagliatL 2014-12-08T18:39:00

Cool game, I like the colours and how the single mechanic fits a variety of different situations quite well.

Super Mega Ultimate Game of Minigames! by Crafting4U 2014-12-08T05:04:00

Good, standard minigame collection here. I think the time between minigames is a bit too long, I would be happy with 3 seconds (or instantly, even).
Good to see you tackling these jams at an early age, it will make the difference.

Monster Buster by AsixJin 2014-12-09T05:55:00

This has good foundations, a battle system with enemies and exploration and experience at least (I did not encounter levelling up)

The movement block by block made it impossible to tell if you were moving in long, repetitive passages. The fighting seemed a bit slow paced to me, as well.

I like the graphics.

H.T.P by rottenmage 2014-12-12T23:26:00

I should have got her more diamonds...

Screen King by interwebsninja 2014-12-11T07:33:00

That was really enjoyable, really puts you on the edge of your seat.

Astrador by sirikan 2014-12-09T06:03:00

It is quite a confusing game, but I've never been much for card games. I feel like a good deal of thought has gone into the mechanics so kudos for that, and the programmer graphics are fantastic.

Still, I found myself randomly clicking and watching numbers change even after looking through the tutorial. It's quite hard to read the resource consumption stats in the card preview.

Spike Jumper by bobmandude9889 2014-12-09T03:52:00

On Mac I am getting a "message" upon opening, I am guessing an error of some sort:
net.bobmandude9889.World.OrthogonalMapLoader.load(OrthogonalMapLoader.java:41)
com.webs.kevkawm.Main.Main.loadMap(Main.java:60)
com.webs.kevkawm.Main.Main.main(Main.java:38)

Pixel Platform by Shivur 2014-12-09T05:26:00

Can't play because I'm on Mac but I'm making a case to say the screenshot looks very pretty and I wish I could play!

The Operator by little-burrito 2014-12-13T08:36:00

Wicked. The two player one needs to happen so people like me can finally have fun playing an FPS.

So good that I didn't even think about its relevance to the theme until I came here to write about your game. Now that I do think about it, it's a really creative take on it!

This could easily be some sort of online deathmatch sort of thing - which would save you the need to create a whole campaign and all that.

If I'm going to be picky, the 3D graphics could have used some work. But the terminal itself was beautiful.

Please add tab completion to the new version!

Robert's Run by Xenolupus 2014-12-09T05:34:00

This is a great game. It fits the theme well, graphics are fluid, controls well. I like how there is infinite play and it has a good difficulty curve.

The structures of the obstacles are quite recognisable, so it doesn't seem as generated as it could. When moving at fast speeds, white gaps appear between the tiles. Sometimes hamburgers appear in hard to reach places :(

I got to level 6!

Animal Roar by gillenew 2014-12-12T23:11:00

Visually, it is stunning and the platforming (aside from attacking) works well.
I agree with sentiments about there being little connection to the theme.

Hazard Lab by JohnGalt 2014-12-12T23:06:00

I enjoyed this, but I'm not really seeing the theme in it!

Chromashift by andrewjoy 2014-12-08T08:49:00

The game is quite addictive but I think I'm experiencing a bug where in a lot of the colours I just can't see any cubes. I also never get coloured cubes, only white ones.

I'm imagining what this game would be without the bug when ranking it, though!

Layerd by nuno 2014-12-08T19:06:00

This must have been all kinds of hard to put together in terms of level design, I like the implementation of the theme.
Would be nice if I could move a little faster, or save points more often.

pkill by GGraca 2014-12-08T03:41:00

At first I thought this game was just a typing simulator, but exploring the commands a bit made me realise that this game has a pretty cool premise behind it. Command oriented games seem very relevant to programmers so its in the right place.

But I couldn't bring myself to need all of the other commands and once I realised I could alias s to swipe, I could just quick-fire that command constantly and never get hit. A cooldown would probably be good here.

Who the Hell Scribbled Me Here?!? by Feoden 2014-12-11T08:00:00

Interesting control mechanic, but I am struggling to see how this fits the theme.

Blue Screen of Love by cmdr 2014-12-09T03:33:00

This was really good, had me playing through a few times until I won - the first time I didn't realise that I needed to be nice.

Peaceful Night by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2014-12-08T04:33:00

The screenshots to the other dimensions look enticing, and would be a good gameplay feature, but I don't feel compelled to go that far. The sandbox is ambitious for LD, and I think you've taken a fairly good crack at it.

Save Xmas Gifts by Gread72 2014-12-11T05:34:00

Getting "internal server error" when downloading OS/X version

Not-your-average-pacman by jfreax 2014-12-08T09:56:00

Even from the outset, the movement is fluid enough to make you feel like you are in control of PacMan.
Good take on the theme, I did have to ragequit not very far in though.

Quantum - The Tail of Schrodinger's Cat by ArrowThroughHisEye 2014-12-09T03:36:00

The quantum mechanics proving that this is actually one screen does seem like a bit of a cheap shot, but nobody understands enough to argue so it works!
The remarks at the top made my day, funniest thing I've seen in the LD 31 games thus far.

Nuclear Power Plant Simulator 2014 by Pfilzweg 2014-12-08T18:55:00

I like it but there aren't really any features that are specific to a nuclear power plant, normally these sorts of simulators have controls for the rods/moderator/whatever.
Really like the graphics but unfortunately I can't play with sound at the moment!

Balls and Blocks by monsieurvinou 2014-12-11T05:52:00

Really quite difficult because of the floaty controls.
I made a similar mistake with mine!

Electric Jezebel by OttersDen 2014-12-09T04:01:00

This is a really neat idea, good way of getting around the restrictions of the theme. The puzzles certainly had me stumped - a great turnout in terms of thinking in such a short amount of time.

The graphics did seem a bit cobbled together, though.

T-Rekt by vairse 2014-12-09T05:21:00

I like the graphics, and the game is fun even if it is just a simple dodging game.

It is quite unforgiving though!

Lights Out by Forge 2014-12-09T03:45:00

The lighting gives a very dark atmosphere to Christmas, which is nice. I like the graphics in the title sequences especially.
It can get a bit monotonous, but the decreasing field of vision and chests do shake things up a bit.

Kiwi by fierysquirrel 2014-12-08T08:52:00

The controls are a bit iffy, you can't really move while jumping which makes dodging kind of frustrating.

Music is catchy and I like the visual style you're going for.

One Screen by yosh 2014-12-08T09:01:00

The effects were just interesting enough to keep me going through the repetition. That was a really interesting experience.

The 3D controls wouldn't grab my mouse cursor so I kept having to move it in and out of the browser at different points to look around.

Dancefloor by kebabskal 2014-12-11T08:38:00

This is pretty slick, and lives up to its bullet hell name. The ending is priceless.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Shield Maiden by bitslap 2015-05-07T05:21:00

Art and audio are really good, and so is the concept and the controls. I'm not sure why but I can't seem to get into the gameplay itself.
Still, awesome game.

Ice Story ( koori monogatari 氷物語 ) by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2015-04-22T22:08:00

The whole environment is awesome, sounds and graphics. The gameplay is simple but it works! It's quite difficult as picking up the enemies after dashing can get hard. The Z+X was also not very consistent. I found that you had to make sure that you pressed Z before you pressed X

DAGDROM by Ditto 2015-05-07T05:13:00

That was really good, everything about it felt so fluid (em, pun intended?). Great work.

Power of Djent by Rubel 2015-04-27T19:53:00

It seemed really fluid, except for how difficult it was to get riffs to come out of the guitar sometimes. The animations were nice and the music fit the scene very well.

Miyu by SecondDimension 2015-04-22T20:43:00

The graphics are beautiful and the relaxed gameplay is really nice, I just wanted to explore as opposed to reaching the goal and herding (which was quite difficult). I think you still fit the theme very nicely.

Blink Gun by Split82 2015-04-21T05:28:00

Loved it. My only complaint lies with most of the others: not enough levels. It's clear though that you spent your time refining and polishing this game and I prefer all of that to a lot of levels.

Glitch Gun by zerocreativity1 2015-04-27T09:52:00

Nice work! The whole thing felt pretty polished and well put together, and the mechanic fits in with the theme really well.

Bubble Becky by Dining Philosopher 2015-04-21T05:35:00

Great interpretation of the theme, what a robust weapon! It was a little unclear that you could only bounce on your bubble if it was a specific size, but once you worked it out, it was pretty intuitive.

Melter by Mase 2015-04-27T20:01:00

The art is very pretty and the game is quite challenging (which is good!). I found the weapon a little too unintuitive, it didn't seem to go where I was aiming all the time and that led to a lot of frustration.

Dumb & Number by Tipyx 2015-04-21T07:15:00

I like the mechanic of learning, but I felt it was way too easy to get yourself stuck and have to start the level all over again.

(mental)fairy by 0x0961h 2015-04-28T09:24:00

This was really fun! The weapon upgrading mechanic was a great idea because it was the thing that kept me playing: "How ridiculous is my weapon going to become?"

The theme incorporation does seem like a little bit of a copout.

Ghost 39 by nurabsal 2015-04-21T07:51:00

I really liked the graphics, those monsters were pretty creepy.

DUPE by nicotuason 2015-04-23T19:51:00

This is great, I really like how the unconventional weapon is used to help you in missions, so it's up to you when to use it - as opposed to "here is an obvious section where you need to use that thing". Graphics are great as well.

The Great Debate by MiniBobbo 2015-04-21T07:10:00

A game often played as a time killer between friends now turned into a video game, great idea! My scoring rule only ended up with three valid words between everyone at the end so I was pretty confused.

Space Boy by Hyoga-3D 2015-04-21T05:15:00

Really fun and easy to control. I'm struggling to see the connection with the them, though. Also, it's hard to click on the buttons to play/restart when you can't see the mouse.

Crayon Poke by Raiyumi 2015-04-27T23:59:00

This game is awesome, the exploration nature of it takes it to the next level, I really like the way you can go back and forth between areas so fluidly and the crayon mechanic is implemented perfectly.

Some explanation when you're first introduced to the crayon may have been useful.

Iridescent by PixlWalkr 2015-04-23T06:57:00

That was simply excellent. First LD game so far that has had my heart racing like that after finishing. My only gripe is that the menu graphics are a bit ugly but the graphics of gameplay make up for that entirely.

Iridescent by PixlWalkr 2015-04-23T07:54:00

Apologies for that previous comment - wrong game! The graphics for this were beautiful though, and the menu graphics weren't a let down. I loved the lighting.

I'm colourblind so I had trouble telling the difference between the red and, er, red crystals. They both looked red to me.

Drunken Quest for the One Vodka by eemmbbeerr 2015-05-01T21:24:00

That was really interesting, and impressive how much has been fit into the whole game. It was a good move putting the tutorial in to explain everything, because there is a lot going on. Some of the text was cut off on the side of the screen.

Even with all of the explanation, I still found it pretty confusing but I'm sure I'd get the hang of it eventually.

Graviton by Namide 2015-04-21T06:19:00

I enjoyed it, I think it's a good interpretation of the theme and it's got a good amount of polish to it.

IANAAI by Mr.Cassels 2015-04-21T05:40:00

I liked the idea, but it is really hard to execute well. You run out of computers pretty fast and unfortunately my office workers are stupid! They run for the wall instead of the door to the next floor.

It's a shame that we only have on worker. On my first go, I killed it because I thought that's what omnipotent computer defence systems did.

Anagram Attack by ethankennerly 2015-04-21T06:29:00

I liked how you were introduced to the game, and it was refreshing given the different playing style of all of the other LD games. I got to 36 with 279 letters

Love Worm by bnhw 2015-04-21T05:48:00

Fantastic! I had nobody to play it with but I happily mashed keyboard buttons and so much love ensued.

KEYS: THE BOARD: THE DANCE: THE BATTLE: THE GAME by undefinist 2015-04-23T06:36:00

Love it! I have no idea what it is but I love it!

Slam Jam Bakery by DragonXVI 2015-04-23T07:55:00

That was simply excellent. First LD game so far that has had my heart racing like that after finishing. My only gripe is that the menu graphics are a bit ugly but the graphics of gameplay make up for that entirely.

ERR by LukeZaz 2015-04-22T20:26:00

Nice idea! It would be great if your mouse didn't disappear and the break glitch just had a little area of effect so you didn't have to be super precise while running around.

The Messenger by Mossy Frog 2015-04-27T23:48:00

Definitely very finicky platforming, but the environment was nice looking enough, and the music sets the mood very well.

Just Another Day by Matt Tuttle 2015-04-21T07:38:00

Deep. I was doing so well in the morning but once I got to work everything went downhill...

Discord Seeder by ztiromoritz 2015-04-21T19:32:00

After I figured out what was going, I realised this was a cool mechanic. The tutorial is so long, so after you die you don't really want to go again.

Audio Assault by Docjekyll 2015-04-23T06:47:00

Such an awesome job, making the music and then sequencing it to the game must have taken so long! The music was good to mash to, but I am no good at rhythm games.

Roombacalypse by lucidsheep 2015-05-01T21:33:00

This is awesome, I can't really think of a way to fault it in its current implementation. It may be fun if you could also suck projectiles but that would probably make it too easy.

Good job!

Unconventional Butts (WT) by seraphki 2015-04-22T20:36:00

This is pretty funny. I had a little trouble understanding what was going on, but running around and mashing keys until things fell off was good fun.

Circus Escape by TDogAndNateDizzleProductions 2015-04-27T23:52:00

That was really nice, the graphical style was great. The punishment for death is pretty harsh - go back to the beginning

Rabbitville by Pilly 2015-04-27T23:42:00

I couldn't finish it unfortunately, but I really enjoyed the idea of exploring and finding stuff out. I felt that the one minute timer was a bit short.

Sylvam Opacam by cyand1317 2015-04-22T20:49:00

I like the idea, balancing the production of an intergalactic civilisation. It moves quite slowly at the moment, which makes it hard to get into.

SNIFF by dyfer 2015-04-21T05:01:00

Trippy! I found the lasers really hard to get over and they kept killing me. It was very fortunate that the game had checkpoints, though.

SPACE LOVERS? by spreadtheflow 2015-04-21T04:06:00

Couldn't get this to work entirely on my machine. Macbook Pro (OSX 10.10) on Google Chrome with a Logitech F310. Movement controls worked fine but I couldn't fire with any button.

Looks like a cool concept though.

SHAMPOO PLEASE by napedia 2015-04-21T05:44:00

I blew it

Play Your Doom by Bendev 2015-04-21T04:19:00

Fun concept for the theme, but it seems a little buggy. It seems I can't cast the toxic spell without casting the slow spell first, and I couldn't past the first door. The first time I played, 5 letters appeared on the door when I killed the zombies but playing them did nothing. The second time I only saw one letter after killing all of the zombies.

Still, I really enjoyed the concept of playing music to cast spells.

ScarKrow by Carduus 2015-04-21T17:33:00

This is a beautiful game, really hard to play on a trackpad but that can't really be called a fault. The gameplay was solid and the animation super fluid.

Jungle Hair by ncannasse 2015-04-21T06:35:00

This seemed surprisingly natural! I enjoyed that, except the spinning mechanics seemed unintuitive and were quite difficult. For example, I would let go expecting to go one way and then trail off in the opposite direction.
