Super cool puzzle game, dude!
Very confusing at first, but very interesting once I figured it out.

Super cool puzzle game, dude!
Very confusing at first, but very interesting once I figured it out.
Very interesting experience. I actually just downloaded Unity for the first time last week and I learned a lot about the editor from "playing" this game. Highly amusing.
I will say: If you have Unity, actually play this. Try the riddles without watching the video. It's quite fun.
The last one was the only one I had to "cheat" a bit to figure out (but I didn't watch the video until after). I can let you know how through direct message if you want. (@jhnsnc on Twitter)
Great interpretation of the theme!
There are a lot of gameplay mechanics you implemented here in a short amount of time. So while each one could use refinement, it's a very solid entry. Great job!
Simple, fun game. I was able to get to see 3 different types of projectiles. The way you approached the theme made me literally "lol" when I realized it. :-D
-----
Technical note!!!
If you are on a Windows machine, you can (and should) download BlueStacks so you can play this game on your computer.
Delightful game. Very relaxing.
Very unique puzzle mechanic and good execution.
I had a lot of fun with this. It's a simple gameplay mechanic, but well executed. Bonus points for procedural level generation!
Super, super awesome. So beautifully done, such atmosphere. Such game jame. wow.
5 stars.
Impressive animation work for the short period of time.
Very impressive look and feel for a game jam. The "cutscenes" added a lot too.
FYI: Windows users can download BlueStacks in order to run the APK on their computer. It's practically impossible with the touch controls, but luckily the developer left the keyboard controls in.
Solid game. LOVE the game mechanics. It definitely changes the feel once you realize you can hold down the fire button to increase the initial projectile velocity.
This would be a great multiplayer game, especially if you could find interesting ways to expand on the mechanic with powerups, debuffs, and such.
Thanks for the feedback so far, everyone :-D
The game is indeed difficult (I don't like easy games!), but definitely winnable. There are 7 levels and the last one has a bit of extra evilness in the enemy attack patterns.
@Danman9914 if I had realized they looked like lucky charms, I'd have made a full set of them :-D
@kirbytails7 thanks! that comment means a lot, since that was one of the main things I focused on
@jorumungandr I'm sorry to hear that! I'd really like to know what caused that :-/
@Lissar thanks! there was a bit of truth the in the game flavor text about liking the rainbow mane a little too much :-P
It's BEAUJIFUL. Seriously, nice art. Sound effects are fun too.
Simple gameplay, with a nice 'twist'. The death animation made it feel forgiving when you missed a jump.
Good job!
Fantastic entry. I had a blast playing this!
Solid entry. I started having a lot of fun once I figured out the first puzzle.
Unfortunately, a game crash prevented me from reaching the end. :-( Still giving a good rating though, b/c it was well thought out.
Very inventive idea!
I feel like this could be really fun with a stylus/touchpad. But with the mouse I couldn't erase fast enough for the spiral level (once I could no longer just 'kite' with WASD).
It took me a few tries to figure out what was going on, but I think I get it now. You're trying to click all the targets while making sure your character doesn't follow your cursor to his own death.
Interesting game mechanic.
"GotY 20XX" -Polygon
"A true work o' fart" -Kotaku
"My new go-to for passing time on the toilet" -TouchArcade
The upgrades scaled in cost pretty steeply. The earlier game was more about precision and resource management and later waves were more about just covering the field with ammo. Perhaps something like a speed upgrade could have made the progression a bit more dynamic/interesting.
Overall a fun experience for a few playthroughs.
He's not the hero we need, but he's the hero we deserve.
10/10.. 10/10... 100/100
You can tell that some real effort went into the level design. Nice work!
Character movement was slow, but I felt like it was appropriate. The movement combined with the satisfying enemy explosions made it feel like the player was some rampaging, tanky hulk of a thing.
This was a blast to play. :-D
I'm loving all these games with musical elements this time around.
Fun concept. I feel like there's a lot of different ways you could go with expanding the mechanics (procgen, puzzles, enemies, etc). Good work.
What a fun idea! You already mentioned about the theme, so yeah...
This represents a lot of work considering the timeframe and it really has great potential.
Awesome! Love the art style and the gameplay is strangely addictive.
Nicely done!
This game was a blast!
Nice art style. I love that the player model has his tie on all proper. Just another day at work :-P
It's also fun that you can accidentally turn a desk/plant into another rampaging deathbot.
Great idea for a music-driven gameplay mechanic! I think I might have to experiment with/expand on this idea some. Very cool.
I like how you built up the music as the game progressed, and the dialog was fun as well.
Great work!
This was a blast to play. I feel like this could be really fun if fleshed out into a full competitive/cooperative game.
It did take me a while to realize that you had to grab the ice in order to shoot it sideways. Overall, very nice!
Very chill game. Art and audio were spot on. Doesn't feel like an incomplete game at all.
Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!
@tanjent Actually, it was all written by hand on stream (you'll note I even have some hand-written notes in there). If I were to make a full game like this I would definitely have a tool to import raw data from MIDI and another tool to edit and fine-tune it.
@all Regarding difficulty: I know it's really hard (sorry). It was WAY more challenging than I anticipated to make the "easy" patterns. The "hard" patterns practically wrote themselves.
In fact, I should probably rename them from "easy" to "normal", create "easy" as a step down in difficulty, and add "beginner" as a step below that too.
(Developer here)
Thanks again for all the comments!
I know difficulty is still an issue. I would love to offer lower difficulty options, but I also don't want to show more work than I was able to accomplish in the 48 hours. I knew it would take about 3-4 hours to add another difficulty level for each song so I chose not to, given other priorities.
Similarly, things like art for the notes/aliens, hit/miss animations, a "combo" counter, sensitivity detection (e.g. "bad", "okay", "good", "perfect"), and so on were on the list. However, I had prioritized those things lower than other features like a second song track and decent menu navigation.
Keep the comments coming though! It helps confirm for me that the issues I had next on my priority list were the correct issues to address next if I had more time.
Great game.
It turned out to be very "solvable" after just a few rounds, but I imagine a more fleshed-out game (that is, with more time than LD allows) might add more mechanics/tasks/threats to keep it interesting.
Nice work!
Shouldn't this be categorized as a "jam" since you had Tim Burton helping you out? jkjk
I spent way more time playing this than the other LD games so far. Quite fun! The controls could have been a bit smoother (e.g. the mouse click kept taking me out of game when it wandered to my other monitor) and such. But I thought the art was really nice--it embraced what it was and in doing so really contributed to the game's mood/atmosphere.
Great work!
Fun, unexpected game mashup.
I like the use of simple colors and how clean/simple it feels. Gameplay gets old pretty quick though.
Very pretty and nice varied enemy types.
(/ ・ω・)ノ~~<3 ? \(>.< )ノ
Nice details with the guy at the bar and standing on the side. Gameplay is simple, but I didn't see any problems/bugs.
(Side note: I will say that having to "install" is a big turn-off for a Ludum Dare game. I understand it considering the tools you used to write it, but maybe consider something that deploys to web for Ludum Dare)
Best fart game I've played so far.
It was actually quite fun. Good job!
I feel that the audio might have been improved with some "voice acting" butt maybe that's just me.
Great couch multiplayer game. Well done!
Instructions unclear. Now I have to clean up this mess all over my keyboard...
This is what will finally kill the Pokemon series. Kids will be running around with Poobys filling their pockets, trying to collect them all, worrying their parents by yelling "I wanna touch your Pooby!", battling Poobys and Hatmans in the back alley behind the convenience store that mommy said to avoid. Yeah. It's gonna be GREAT!
I got this error: "Could not find the main class: Capsule. Program will exit."
I'm running Windows 7 SP1
This game was a blast!
You did a great job of setting up that moment when the action starts.
Very dramatic. Quite macabre.
My wife might object to me spooning aliens/demons, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
This was absolutely spectacular!
Lovely graphics and music to match. I think the best part is how the art style, the music, the animation, gameplay, ...everything just fit together so perfectly. Keeping people on the same page through an intense creation process like Ludum Dare is no mean feat. You guys should be super proud of this.
This is a really great concept! Could be a truly kickass couch multiplayer game if developed a bit further.
I love that the player's ammo is also the player's purchasing resource. Maybe something like reasonably priced health kits would make the game feel more strategic/objective-oriented rather than in-your-face brawly (like it feels now).
I felt like the purchasable upgrades didn't really come into play much unless you were already down to only 2 players, at which point they don't really help to turn the tide of battle much. But really, that's just a balance/pacing issue. The core concept is really great here.
Also, the art looked fantastic and the audio was good as well.
Fun game. I like how you showed how helpless those miserable betas are against a fully red-pilled alpha backed by the power of ethics.
Also, who invited a golden dragon to the con?
Brilliant interpretation of the theme, and great execution (hyuk hyuk hyuk).
I wanna be the very best... ♪♫♬
Like no one ever was... ♪♫♬
Good work! Makes me want to try something in a similar style next time :-D
Very stylish :-D
Great use of theme. I had a blast playing this.
Some sort of escalation or emergent complexity could make it even more interesting.
Good work!
Nice art. A bit hard to control but quite fun once I got used to it.
Great LD game!
I really wanted to see another level! I had my rhythm game fingers ready and everything :-D
Nice, simple concept. Well executed.
I was especially glad to see that it kicked up a notch later on, requiring a bit more finesse from the player.
The only real complaint I have is the choice of key bindings on the game over screen. Several times I would get past the checkpoint and then press [left], accidentally returning to the very beginning and invalidating the checkpoint. That in particular was _extremely_ frustrating.
But like I said, apart from that it's a really great LD entry!
Nicely done!
The controls were appropriately confusing at first, but it was really fun to play once I got used to it.
I would be curious what you might add in later levels.
Interesting platformer. I liked the idea to make jump both buttons at the same time. The jump motion was quite difficult for me to control (just really floaty, hard to get those ledge jumps), but I saw several good puzzle ideas
Love it. I had a similar idea during brainstorming, and the way you executed it was so much cleaner than what I was thinking.
Good idea. Great execution.
great pixel work
Can't play :-/ (Windows 7)
I had fun ramming and shoosting.
Maybe you could also expand on demon truck's backstory. Why does he ram? Why does he shoot?
Perhaps there's a bit of demon truck inside each of us.
Interesting. I liked the variety of power ups.
Nice, quick platformer experience. It took a minute to understand the controls, but it feels good once you understand it.
Just the right amount of levels for a game jam game.
Nice job!
Great execution on the art. The game felt short but complete--perfect for a game jam game.
Nice, clean art. Had some really interesting moments with another player connected to the same server. It was sometimes frustrating to control, b/c it wasn't always obvious which forces were pulling on you at a particular time.
I keep thinking it would be interesting to do a multiplayer game for a game jam. Maybe I'll also give it a shot some time.
Nice, short experience. Very satisfying. :-D
This game was incredible. So much content with such an interesting mechanic for just 48 hours.
Great visuals and audio.
Great concept and great execution.
Splitting the parallax layers was blowing my mind.
Fun puzzle game! The music-synchronized movement / "rhythm" aspect of the game was a good decision in theory, but needed more work in order to accurately sync. It ended up being more annoying, with skipped turns or double movement occurring rather frequently. Nonetheless, good puzzle layout and solid entry overall.
Interesting game design. Mechanics have a lot of potential.
Seems like with a little hard design thinking you could find a way to make the choices a lot more strategic and meaningful. But yeah--interesting core mechanics.
Love the feel of this game.
Great tie-in with the theme. Fun 48h puzzle platformer :-D
Great visual style :-D
Charming art style :3
Fantastic fantastic fantastic. It's no stretch to say this is one of the best LD games this time around. Can't wait to see what you guys serve up next time.
Stay fearless, mcfearless999.
I love the concept. I wish the game helped me work up to the level of memorization it expects, but it was a really fun challenge.
loved it
Charming game.
Cute art and music and a fair number of features for a game jam game. Some more clarity on the mechanics would have been nice (e.g. where is the cat going to look before it activates?) but it was really fun regardless.
Great work!
Unable to play and rate. All I get is a small window with a teal background and a large blue square that appears on click.
Took a while to understand what was happening but once I got it I really enjoyed it. Great job!
I loved this!
Nice assets and theming, good puzzle design, and good execution all around. This was a very satisfying gameplay experience.
Good execution. I especially liked the satisfying yellow shot effect.
Gameplay was short and fair. All the attacks felt appropriately telegraphed.
Nice short game jam experience. Thanks for sharing
Beautiful, moody execution.
The lighting from the cars really amps up the pressure when in puzzle solving mode, as the cars start turning the corner while you're still laying down track.
Highlighting the incomplete road segments was a nice usability decision.
Solid entry.
Lots of interesting details like the parallax effect and the fridge animation in the shop.
The gameplay was less "gamey" than I expected; more like... an interactive narrative experience. But it was definitely an interesting take on the theme. Good work.
