Game had potential, though it was very difficult to play as I could not see the player very well

shivur 2014-12-08 05:10

Yeah I knew that would be an issue, so I tried my best to make it visible by flashing. Thought I wanted to keep it a pixel for the sake of the concept. That was an experiment I wanted to try for a long time to make the smallest platformer possible where every pixel count.

5you 2014-12-08 06:27

Nice concept, and really hardcore ! i couln't go very far...

sepharoth213 2014-12-08 06:32

Java said 'Could not find the main class: Start. Program will exit.' Couldn't run.

jaloko 2014-12-08 06:42

Cool game, I think some of the collision was off because I fell through a few of the bottom stones. The 5th bottom stone took me a long time to get onto. Overall though nice job.

andrewjamesadams 2014-12-08 16:36

In a pixel precise game you should use pixel accurate colliders. It's hard to land on platforms when they don't make the collider.

dsilvers 2014-12-08 17:55

This is a good start. I don't think having a 2x2 player would defeat the theme of the player being a "pixel," especially when there's so much platforming going on. The blinking didn't help much, just made the pixel looked gray. I would slow it down slightly (like blink every other frame instead of every frame) to make it more significant. Also it sometimes felt like pressing a direction didn't do anything unless I jumped. I like the concept, and the art is wonderful, but the controls need tightening.

broknecho 2014-12-09 05:26

Difficult is a good word :) I think there needed to be a better signal that you died. Possibly just a sound that you died. I found I was trying to jump but I had already missed the landing and actually jumped from the starting area. So really just got lost. Some collision issues but overall nice work!

pinpickle 2014-12-09 05:26

Can't play because I'm on Mac but I'm making a case to say the screenshot looks very pretty and I wish I could play!

ottersden 2014-12-09 05:27

One of those "Super difficult but in a good way" games. However, at least for me, the little pixel seemed to be floating above the supposed platforms. I didn't get too far. I want to know of the incredible beings who did beat this game.

hazzahazzam 2014-12-09 05:30

Controls need to be more precise. Player WAY too small, also even the "you are here" couldn't help me see where I was.

lissar 2014-12-09 05:31

This is undoubtedly a pixel platformer. Little hard to see the character though! Made it a bit too difficult for me.

angela 2014-12-09 05:36

The pixel was kind of cute. I like that he jumped like a flea. But at my resolution, I could barely see it, and it only flashed some of the time. I think you've got a good concept here, but the controls weren't very consistent. Sometimes the pixel could move without jumping, and sometimes he had to jump to move. He also didn't always jump the same distance, so it was really hard telling where he would end up. So I didn't actually make it very far. But it was fun. I kept trying for quite awhile.

davient 2014-12-09 05:46

Great concept. But soooo hard and unforgiving :) Is pretty too

jaycee23 2014-12-09 13:13

Cool picture, nice engine, but not very fun.

trixton 2014-12-10 04:18

I made it to the right side of the screen, fell into the lava and promptly quit

thopis 2014-12-10 08:32

Very hard! The concept is great, only thing you want is perfect collision and much less frame rate so it 'll be much more playable. Didn't have problem with the character,he is great and the level too!Keep up!

intersectiongames 2014-12-11 01:59

Seconding the critiques about collisions, especially for the stones above the lava. I fell through that middle pillar at the end multiple times. You also couldn't move left and right fluidly in places because you got hung up on the terrain, and jumping was the only reliable form of movement.

efux 2014-12-11 16:34

This is a very hard game. Yet it isn't demotivating because there is kind of a learning curve. The game looks great and I like the concept. Improvements: The player should be able to walk stones in both directions and not just downhill. But otherwise great job!

5k0d 2014-12-11 17:32

im not patient enough sry ;-) but it feels kinda strange and funny at the same time

fgm 2014-12-11 18:13

It was really hard to see the little dot.

trisquare 2014-12-12 15:18

This game had so much potential. Ito a shame that it's hard to play :(

andymar 2014-12-12 16:00

Hard, but worth it ;)

codecranker 2014-12-12 16:15

hard to see, may be the pixel should have a glow or a distinct outline so it stands out a little more.

nikteddy92 2014-12-12 18:08

Nice graphic and enjoyable mechanic. Well done.
(a little too small character)

freaknarf 2014-12-13 15:01

Cool gameplay, sometimes collisions could be a little more precise but it's great :)

wevel 2014-12-13 19:08

Way too difficult.

01rafael 2014-12-14 18:56

Ahahahahaha! The dud is too small! I lost him a many times. Great entry!

odefus 2014-12-14 19:09

Game reminded me of Al Pacino's speech from the movie Any Given Sunday. Inch by inch, play by play, climbing out of hell. So I listened to the speech while playing the game aaaaaand.. nope. Couldn't make it past the first level of obstacles. Even Pacino couldn't motivate me to do it.

Not much to add to what has already been said here. Character was hard to see, collisions weren't that accurate and the instant death and respawn with no feedback was a bit confusing.

Did anyone ever actually beat this game?

lovelock 2014-12-16 08:33

Bonus points for the player sprite. I really appreciate going for a game where you are a pixel. It was surprisingly humorous. It's like a game for ants. I like that. :P Also, I'm terrible at being an ant apparently.

chaoseed 2014-12-18 17:46

I think the graphics are great, and the idea is fine. The problem is the collision! The pixel always seems to be floating above the platforms. And then I got to the right edge of the screen and tried to climb upward...I had no idea what I could land on, what I could jump up through...It was basically impossible. (And, you know, no checkpoints...) Still, you get points for finishing something!

benjamin-soule 2014-12-18 19:30

It looks like there's a gap in the collision mesh. maybe 14-16 pixel top an 4-6 left. So I'm always floating above plaforms, it'ss really hard to understand when I will fall or not. I could not go higher than the first floor...

johnbrynte 2014-12-18 19:40

Damn small! The collision box/pixel was like 10 pixels off from the ground for me, so it got even harder. If you really wanted the one pixel look, which I agree is a very intriguing concept, I think you should have gone with a much cleaner environment where the player pixel really pops out!

shivur 2014-12-19 03:14

It's weird for me the pixel is only one pixel above the ground. Maybe this has something to do with the window java generate in different versions of windows. The X and y coordinates may not start counting in the same place depending on the version.

okkolobr 2014-12-21 20:33

Was a bit too small and a bit too imprecise to be completely enjoyable.
I like the concept, but it really need more work (in post jam).

snickersnacks 2014-12-22 00:03

Agree about the colliders. But you did a great job with the mood and graphics. :) Nice entry!

paffe 2014-12-22 09:57

Nice & simple game, but no music! You should always include music! Good quality royalty free music is very easy to come by these days and only takes like 5 minutes to include!

shivur 2014-12-23 04:12

For the compo I can't include music I haven't composed during the Ludum Dare. I did a short music if you are able to finish the game.

rjhelms 2014-12-24 17:32

Oh man, this is unforgiving. I really like the idea, and the level looks great, but I'm just not good enough at platformers to really get anywhere.

dylanwolf 2014-12-28 15:44

Scaling down a platformer to one screen/one pixel was a good idea, and the graphics were good. Collision felt a bit odd--I couldn't walk or land on some seemingly flat surfaces.
