It's Java, thus I cannot play it, Had it uninstalled on my computer because of security reasons. Need to be more specific

pinpickle 2014-12-09 03:52

On Mac I am getting a "message" upon opening, I am guessing an error of some sort:
net.bobmandude9889.World.OrthogonalMapLoader.load(OrthogonalMapLoader.java:41)
com.webs.kevkawm.Main.Main.loadMap(Main.java:60)
com.webs.kevkawm.Main.Main.main(Main.java:38)

@Pinpickle Make sure you extract it before you try to run it.

I liked the level transition a lot. The tutorial like stages were a nice romp too. By the way on some stages I can jump out of bounds and not be able to reset the stage.

Got this error:
Spike Jumper/res\clear.tmx (No such file or directory)

Can you push a fix with "/" instead of "\" (works on both Windows/Linux)

bobmandude9889 2014-12-09 04:02

I'll fix that now @sorlok

A pretty fun little platformer that reminds me of flash games like Give Up. Controls are very tight and the challenges are pretty fair. Good job!

I like the floaty jump physics, it actually lets you really push the boundaries on the level about how you can jump. Unfortunately after this LD theme I've grown tired of these level transitions giving the notion of the game being on one screen, though it still looks nice!

I think you should work a bit on the physics and hit detection, sometimes I'm killed by a spike under a floor piece if I fall down fast. Also, consider adding more "micro pauses" to your game at level start and death and so on. Now if you die you don't have time to react before the levels start again and occasionally you die once again just because of that. Good work anyways!

I'd say this isn't great. There doesn't seem to be a distinct visual style and it does nothing new for the platformer genre. There's a lot of problems with collisions; sideways spikes can kill me from about half a block away, much to my disdain. On one level, I was able to fall through a block and die via the spikes immediately below. Instant respawn is a bad idea. Give the player a second or so to see exactly how they died, to process what they did wrong. At the start, people do not need to be told that spikes can be upsidedown and sideways. We can see that.

The music, however, is good even though it does not necessarily fit the game. The game technically fits the theme, but I think it was kind of cheaty with it but I can't really fault you on it; it was on one screen. The difficulty curve is pretty much perfect even though most of the difficulty is cheap and fake.

The level transitions are cool and the levels are really well designed! Well done :D

A good platformer, if a little flat. The collision response was a little off, and it seemed like I got stuck on the ceiling a lot, but otherwise not bad. It could have used something to give it a little more depth, something more than just a standard jump, but as it stands it's still a solid entry.

This is a pretty fun game. The stage element transitions between stages was a pretty nice effect. I do think this falls in the punishing category of difficulty. The collision boxes on the spikes seemed a bit aggressive, and once levels get a little longer, not having way points really punishes the player.

sorlok 2014-12-12 04:17

Good game overall; I love the re-arranging mechanic! The controls are nice and responsive, but it's frustrating that hitting your head on the ceiling stops your forward movement. Good game!

I enjoyed this game. Remniscent of a Meatboy/IWBTG type game. I would have enjoyed analog controls though, I personally hate playing platformers with a keyboard. Overall I thought it was well done, and the level transitions were cool. Although, as others have mentioned, the hit detection was a bit wonky.

superdisk 2014-12-13 01:03

While the game did boot for me, it didn't render anything. I'm on a Mac and the screen just stays gray and unpainted (though the console did emit a lot of messages indicating that the resources were loaded)

Don't know what to say, since apparently other Mac users have gotten it going.

boxedmeatrevolution 2014-12-15 18:15

I had the same problem as SuperDisk (running OS/X 10.9.5)

zayron 2014-12-15 19:07

I like how the blocks move to make a new level. Sometimes I felt like I died without touching the spikes but overall it was fun.

Awesome animations between the levels!

okkolobr 2014-12-21 21:24

Nice, although feeling classic, game. Like the take on the theme with the "morphing" level.

Good job on controls that are precise enough to not get frustrated. Great level design pushing to test skill.

Overall nice game.

nice idea
