The planet-side controls are quite difficult to use, or maybe I just have slow reactions

endurion 2012-04-23 12:42

Doesn't load completely in FF.

nocturne 2012-04-23 12:45

Okay, that was a surprise! I actually enjoyed this... it's a kind of chaotic Bomberman.

niallm 2012-04-23 12:50

Doesn't work for me? On both links I just get a loading bar that stops a bit before it reaches the end. I'm running Firefox 11 on Windows 7.

23 2012-04-23 14:09

Hey guys, fixed Firefox - apparently the library I used relies on a flash/swf bridge for sound in Firefox and I'd left that out since I test in Chrome. Works now - thanks for playing!

hume 2012-04-23 18:11

It is! It is Bomberman! As one minigame half of a game. And quite well done too.

Nice work! Runs perfectly in Chrome BTW.

jaj 2012-04-23 22:59

When I killed one of the guardians the game froze. Overall the game was pretty nice.

gremlin 2012-04-23 23:07

Runs file for me in Chrome (Windows 7 x64, if it matters).

The planets are a bit of a challenge, as is trying not to run out of fuel.

23 2012-04-23 23:09

@JaJ Thanks! Sorry you found a bug. There's something wrong with bombs that hit other bombs/guardians that causes a javascript exception, but I haven't seen it freeze things before - what browser are you using?

niallm 2012-04-24 10:39

Thanks for updating it, but I'm still having problems :( It loads now, but the graphics don't seem to update correctly. i.e. the spaceship doesn't move, but I can navigate to the worlds with a little guesswork; on the world it seems I can move and drop bombs, but the graphics never update, so I've no idea where my guy actually is.

I should probably just install chrome...

23 2012-04-24 10:47

@NiallM Sorry you turned into an unofficial bug tester. :( I don't know what would cause the lack of updates, but I'll keep an eye out for it, though I don't have access to Windows 7.

It's not worth installing Chrome for one game, but I will say I find Chrome a lot snappier than FireFox.

tcstyle 2012-04-24 10:49

A pity, doesn't work so far in Firefox on Win7 64. (Both links)

zamando 2012-04-24 10:52

Cool game! It's like bomberman in space

emveyh 2012-04-25 16:19

Worked great for me (chrome) and reminds me of bomberman :) Cool game, had fun :)

adventureislands 2012-04-25 17:53

I'm running into lots of bugs with this, either it gets stuck at the loading bard or multiple musics starts to play very loudly.

catman 2012-04-26 07:23

Ahahah I love bomberman :D Nice work!!!

caranha 2012-04-26 17:51

Seems quite fun, but it is not working correctly on FF :-(

mrpiglet 2012-04-26 20:02

Haha, I absolutely love the early 90's cheap shareware vibe this gives me. Wish my bombs were a bit more powerful/less buggy.

cakencode 2012-04-27 02:19

Heh, what a fun little game. It took a bit of getting used to to figure out the overworld vs bomberman-esque worlds. The music was really fitting and it was fun to try and defeat worlds just to read the popups. Good job.

23 2012-04-27 13:26

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! I just fixed it so destroying the harmless planets actually gives you more fuel, so maybe someone can beat this now...

xblinkedx 2012-04-28 06:15

Pretty good, it could have benefited from sounds other than music, but all in all it was cool.

scgrn 2012-04-28 06:23

Runs fine. Needs some polish, but a really, really cool game!

I'm gonna run it again while I take a break from LD games just so I can jam out to the music!

draknek 2012-04-28 18:32

:( No in-game reset button.

Planets are annoyingly easy to screw up. No idea which direction I'm meant to be going in the overworld.

william_edwards 2012-04-30 10:21

A very fun little game; is it all procedurally generated?

23 2012-05-01 04:37

@Will Edwards: The placement of planets in the galaxy is procedurally generated with a couple of fixed parameters (number of arms, points of rotation, curviness). The planet stages have three models which get displayed in one of four orientations, and whether or not an explodable block is placed on eligible squares is random.

Thanks for asking!

gunmonkey 2012-05-01 05:07

game doesn't work

23 2012-05-01 05:45

@Gunmonkey: Could you please say what browser and OS you're using? If it's not too much trouble it would really help to have the output of the javascript console...

pierrec 2012-05-02 11:12

I'm never been very good at bomberman, so I didn't get very far. But it's quite an impressive game for 48h!

blackbulletiv 2012-05-06 10:34

A nice little game! Even though I don't last long due to some frustrating controls on the planet side, it was still fun. The music was cool, although some sound effects would've been nice.

benjamin-soule 2012-05-06 10:48

I came very near the center but got killed on the last planet. The alternation of ship and bomberman works well. The design of levels are very good for generated content. The bombs behaviour is a bit strange, some flames are sometime not working when bombs triggers themself. It would also be nice if moving monsters dies whenever their starting or ending square is burnt. And also display flames on top of indestructible walls is a bit weird, not displaying flame at all on thoses wall would be better I guess. Nice overall anyway !

namuol 2012-05-06 10:48

Pretty sweet. Difficult for me at times but mostly because I'm slow to react for various reasons right now. The galaxy image is really cool -- you should try to incorporate it into the game somewhere since you went to the trouble to generate it.

I like the idea of needing to play some sort of minigame to gain fuel and progress on. Inspiring stuff since I'm considering options for planetary-landing minigame(s) in my game at the moment.

The randomized popups were a nice touch. :)

kyatric 2012-05-08 19:46

Reminded me of bomberman indeed.

It's a shame you have to reload the page to restart the application though, this is really tedious.

Doesn't load in FF for me either (which is a shame, FF12 is better for HTML5 gaming, you might want to check Construct2 which produces games that work on all major browsers no matter what).

Nice twist of using the bomberman mechanics there.

summaky 2012-05-12 09:45

Although I like the idea, I am going to rate down in innovation; it is clearly bomberman. This doesn't mean I didn't have fun, though. On the contrary! I spent at least an hour with this game, which is a bit too unforgiving and I hate having to reload the page in order to restart (again and again and again…)

brighterorange 2012-05-14 00:27

Didn't accept my keys on the first try (?) which was quite confusing. Once I tried it again I understood pretty quickly. It's kind of like a hyperdangerous Bomberman, but I died just as soon as I got attached to my progress and then I didn't want to try again, you know? I liked the old-skool graphics.
