LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Adventures in Down and Up by hnjslater 2014-04-28T08:22:00

You have included the github source on the "web" link! create a branch called "gh-pages", push it to github, and you'll have it published on https://ghnjslater.github.io/adventures-in-down-and-up

Moletube by johnhackworth 2014-04-28T09:21:00

there are some combination of OS/browser (firefox, I'm looking at you) where the game lags like hell :(

I hope I can compile some native versions soon to avoid the problem

Moletube by johnhackworth 2014-04-28T10:02:00

Please, for those who has problems with the game, could you please tell me which browser and OS you're using so I could check?

thanks!

Moletube by johnhackworth 2014-04-28T10:21:00

ok, found ... I had a crashing bug when you added some stations but didn't add a line between them (the game path finding algorythm were assuming that all the stations would have at least one line, DAMN). It's fixed now, it shouldn't crash anymore

Moletube by johnhackworth 2014-04-28T10:22:00

The laggy issue seems to be your browsers generating 60 (fps) * 50 (number of moles looking for paths) error reports each second :I

Moletube by johnhackworth 2014-04-28T14:19:00

damn... I guess I was too ambitious for a browser game ... In my computer ran quite fine, but I didn't have tested it on any other (of course, not much time for testing on 48h :) ). I've uploaded a fix reducing the number of entities (less moles, smaller map) to try to fix the lag issue

LewisW -> each time a mole enter a metro station, you earn 5$

Moletube by johnhackworth 2014-04-28T14:58:00

@JoeProgram -> thank you! I would love to have had more time to playtest & balance. Also, on my original idea, you could setup ticket prices making more or less attractive your network to the moles, but I that had to be cut out of the final game (maybe I should take this and build a propper game over it, with all the features I left out)

Planet Scan-it by Flopster 2014-04-28T13:30:00

Really hard to play, but WOAH, the way you manage zoom and orbital physics is amazing!

Mole Wars by Corné Dorrestijn 2014-04-28T10:55:00

I'm not sure if intended, but when I push 'left' key, my mole goes right!

But appart from that, pretty nice!

four 5-stars and two four-stars, for me. I would pay good money for this on steam :)

Nostromo by johnhackworth 2015-08-24T12:30:00

ouch! you're right ... I didn't though about adding a 'restart' button at the end and there's no way of starting a new game without refreshing ...sorry!

Nostromo by johnhackworth 2015-08-24T13:47:00

@KrisDevelopment I tried to tweak the damage / pushback to make it a little hard ;)

The idea is that if you are being fired at, your best course of action is to flee. Unless you're trapped in a dead end, you should be able to use your speed & hiding skill for it. And then, position yourself to get that guy from behind while he's moving around (they can't see behind themselves when moving)

Nostromo by johnhackworth 2015-08-24T15:10:00

@GBGames well, there are several things going on in the game I didn't have time to properly explain anywhere :)

When one of the guys with the guns see you, there's a chance that he triggers an alarm. That's when the lights turn to red. When the alarm is activated, all the other soldiers will rush to the point where you have been seen last, so it's a good idea to leave as far as possible.

The hiding mechanism is handy when you are being cornered. When you are hiding, the humans can only see you if they are next to you (like... 30 or 40 pixels away, I think), but they don't if they are in adjacent rooms (or in the same room, but far away), so if you find yourself getting chased by three soldiers ... hiding in the corner of a room and wait for them to leave is a good way to manage the situation. Also, since the moving humans can only see in front of them, hiding behind a ladder and wait for a soldier to go down and turns his back to you is a good way to be able to get hand-to-hand with them without getting shot first :D
