I like the mood and playstyle, but I think the first part is a bit hard!

rafael-souza 2017-07-31 23:29

Pixelart is awesome ;)

the game is prety good, i hope to see it again launched.

I got some bug, in the first level, after touch first spike, with 1/5 of life ( without extra life ) i got damage but did not die.

if i move or stay iddle, nothing strange happens. But if i just jump, anywhere, even in a safeplace i die.

connor-hagan 2017-07-31 23:35

Cool art and mood, a little bit too difficult for even me though. Also experienced some graphical glitches (lines being drawn on screen).

surprisinglyshockedcat 2017-07-31 23:45

Controls were clunky and the game was slightly too difficult.

maskinmask 2017-08-01 06:54

Bit hard for me , but i like your artworks

biocrust 2017-08-01 08:06

Nice little game

happysaila 2017-08-01 11:00

Game is too difficult - there is no learning curve

selftitled 2017-08-01 12:40

Wow thats an extreme time constraint, I couldn't get more than one soul before I died. The art is nice though.

shell-pirate 2017-08-01 12:43

A decent effort. I liked the artstyle of this one quite a bit and the same goes for the music. Both contributed to the dark and ominous atmosphere. The controls are a bit clunky and a touch too floaty for my liking. The mechanic of the souls could be interesting, but I believe the player should receive more visual and audio feedback when they get hit (knockback, screenshake, more sound etc.) The game is also just a bit too difficult and think that is partly due to the fact the camera lags way too much behind the player which forces them to wait for it to catch up and also doesn't allow for good visibility of the obstacles ahead. Overall though, nice work!

daydreamerstudios 2017-08-01 16:24

Good game! The artstyle is nice and the level design is good too.

mrchippy 2017-08-01 16:46

I really liked the art style. The music was good but seemed a little tense for what was going on in the game. I only have one slight complaint about the art which is that on the spinning spikes it would have looked better with motion blur instead of the spinning. This is extremely small though and doesn't really effect anything. The gameplay wasn't very good though. It was kind of clunkly. It was really hard to get through some of the parts. The time you could last without any souls was to short. There wasn't enough time to react and go find a soul. At one point I managed to get above the level by wall jumping near the roof.

dotsquid 2017-08-01 17:12

i love the style you chose! the palette is nice, and helps with the mood. controls are a bit clunky but i still like the overall feel of them. the game starts off a bit hard, but overall i still like the level design. i might have liked more time on finding souls, but you respawn so quickly that it doesn't feel like too much of a burden to me that to have enough time to get everything you almost need to be perfect.

chakramgl 2017-08-01 18:08

Great idea. I did not think that I would find something similar to our game)))

badly-drawn-rod 2017-08-01 20:50

The look and feel of this game was good, although I would have preferred a larger screen. The audio worked very well with the game's theme and the swinging sword animation was on point. I did find the game rather difficult though.

massimog 2017-08-01 21:10

It's a pretty good game. I'd recommend adding iframes, a bigger viewport, making easier to see what's beneath you, improving collision, and tweaking some areas so it's harder to unintentionally fall into a pit of spikes.

reggnos 2017-08-01 21:12

The game isn't too hard the only problem is the camera, expand it a little bit so you can be more aware of your surroundings. Nice art, and the idea that you can use your attack to jump higher is just great.

zedutchgandalf 2017-08-01 21:16

I really like the art of this! It looks gorgeous! The jumping/platforming is a bit buggy (the first time I jumped, right at the start of the game, I got stuck in the wall). The game itself is pretty hard, but I don't think it's necessarily too hard. It is annoying however that the camera is so zoomed in on the player, I'd like to be able to see a bit more of the level at any given time. This is especially frustrating with some of the weird spike placement. Overall, it's definitely not a bad game at all. It just needs a bit more polish and maybe a tad better level design. Also, I'd really like some kind of feedback that I hit a spike. It took me a couple of deaths before I realized the game thought I was hitting spikes that didn't look like I was hitting them to me.

pedro-romero 2017-08-01 21:17

The game looks very nice. It's cool how the game teaches you the different mechanics at the beginning (although I can't go much longer than that ) On the other hand, the "funny" sound effects didn't match very much with the somber theme of the graphics.

noytroo 2017-08-01 21:22

Having only one stack of energy at the begining is pretty insane... It makes me left the game after 10 try... But this is good work, graphics are gound, the sound is good too, and the concept is quite classic for the theme, but interesting

Well done! ;)

decentsauce 2017-08-01 21:31

Saw your post about the game difficulty so I decided to play it. It's indeed very hard. I think the problem is that you start with too little health and the spikes can very easily hit you multiple times. I came across the same problem with my game(our games are pretty similar in concept) and starting the player with enough resources really helps.

loktor 2017-08-01 21:50

** First Impression **: I also saw your post about difficulty, what grabbed me there was actually the artstyle of your game (that one is really well executed :))

** Gameplay **: I really like the concept of your game, there is a lot of room for options, but as others have said it gets really hard really fast, also initial i only found out by accident that i can do wall jumps/can use x to do a higher sword jump maybe something you can improve upon?

** Sound/Graphics **: As i said before those are really well executed great job :)

michaeltwg 2017-08-01 22:52

Very nice ambiance and the game is playing smoothly

bocodillo 2017-08-02 02:11

Lovely atmosphere and great idea. Game felt a little too difficult but still enjoyed playing it nonetheless.

theaspiringhacker 2017-08-02 02:25

I really enjoyed your game. My favorite aspects are the art and the sound, both of which added to the game's dark atmosphere.

krp 2017-08-02 02:37

The graphics are amazing and so is the mood, but the game is just waaaaaaay too hard. I really wish it was toned down somewhat. It honestly just feels like memorizing level layout to me. I want to see what this game looks like when the gameplay is as polished as the art is :P

ninjascribble 2017-08-02 03:10

The artwork is fantastic, and I could definitely see myself getting better after each death. A bit of dark souls influence? The controls are tight -- jumping and moving felt good. Would be nice if the energy bar were visible while you were moving, and if the first level took some time to ease you in a bit more. Nice job overall!

sir-daniev 2017-08-02 05:34

Cool game with amazing pixel art. The setting was pretty well made and the gameplay was solid, but the game was way too hard for me T.T.

I had a bug happening that vertical stripes appeared on the screen some times during a jump. I don't know if it is the game or my ancient PC tho.

alimcomposer 2017-08-02 06:03

I thought the artwork was fantastic, loved the pixel art. The controls felt smooth, however; the first level seemed a bit hard. I never got past it unfortunately; would've liked more pickups for energy at the start to progress further in the game. All in all, I thought it was a pretty solid game. Great effort!

nidup 2017-08-02 07:48

Great concept! Super pixel art, a good example of the use of a simple palette :art: The game proposed interesting mechanisms and atmosphere. It could be better by improving controls that are a bit stiff and not accurate. By the way, you could either display usable controls at the beginning of the game or even better introduce them at the beginning of the level. A menu screen or short intro could help to polish the game too. Finally, it could be more dynamic by adding small feedback like particles when jumping for instance. Anyway, very solid and complete entry, keep up the good work :rocket:

johngun 2017-08-02 09:02

Love the mood, but the beginning is pretty hard. Good work

bombjack 2017-08-02 09:36

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. The level design has been done in a hurry. It has many flaws I knew before publishing. I had so many issues during this development that after crushing 41 hours I was really too tired for fixing it

xsior 2017-08-02 09:44

The game is hard. Really hard. Most of the time I died not even knowing what hit me. While walljumping and graphic is cool the game could give a bit more feedback for the player.

coauctor 2017-08-02 14:48

Yeah, the game is kinda hard. :)

Maybe adding less difficult jumping challenges among the others could've help.

Graphics are simple but cute in a way!

varelsegames 2017-08-02 16:28

The pixel art is great, the controls and style reminded me a bit of Ninja Gaiden. It felt like the difficulty ramped up a little fast, but I like the extra jump from the sword.

hishicorne 2017-08-02 17:07

Hey ! It's a good game with good pixel art, good music and sounds, and very goods controls that make the game very enjoyable. The only problem is that the game is super hard - also, dying after a certain amount of second is a bit rude : I think this is something that must be improved. However, the overall is very, very great !!

yuigoto 2017-08-02 17:19

The game's really nice, but quite challenging! :O It's quite easy to not get through the first floor of the game, specially when you get to the end of it, while getting that last soul to the right. Having more souls, or replacing a few traps could help a bit.

The controls worked fine for me, but I think you could keep the drag time for wall jump a bit more. I don't know, I kinda like having a bit more time. :)

The artwork is really nice! I did love all of it, but I thought that the main character was a "Donnie Darko"-like bunny (when I saw a screenshot :P). And you also set up a really nice mood in your game!

Congrats! Cheers! :)

carsen-d 2017-08-02 19:00

Very nice looking and feeling game. The main problem I have though is that the camera doesn't really follow your character closely enough. What I mean is that there were a lot of times where I couldn't see down a pit and ended up landing on spikes that I wasn't able to see because the camera didn't pan back downward. Otherwise, good controls and cool mechanic!

foxroxracer 2017-08-02 19:51

Good job! Like already mentioned the first part is a bit too hard, but that kept me retrying the game :) Nice pixel art! I also like the snappy controls and the in air controlling of the character. Keep up the good work!

timothy-hoffman 2017-08-02 23:41

Overall, really nice! Maybe consider using GetKeyDown instead of GetKey for the jumping mechanic. I feel like that would've made it a bit smoother. I found your development hack to get to the end completely on accident :)

mr-houdini 2017-08-03 08:39

Woow, the mood is really well put together. Quite inmersive. In my browser version the screen was really small + the camera was to close(it was hard to know if there was enemies where i wanted to jump). That are things really easy to solve so, great work and good luck!

franfox 2017-08-03 11:53

The ambient and the graphics of this game are very cool. I really liked the need to delay your jump while falling. It would be great to have some kind of power that allows you to pass some obstacle but using your own energy as a cost. Good game!

grena 2017-08-03 12:01

Wow, really difficult, I must admit I abandoned the game after 10 minutes because I couldn't go through the first 4 traps. One big thing that bothers me is the camera. It's too close, so you see nothing, and you can't see below or above if there is any trap.. so sometime you have to fall on purpose, only to scroll down the camera.

I didn't get the slide/double jump, it's a bit rough, so it adds more difficulty. I must admit I cut the sound, the music loop is very short ^^

Otherwise, nice color palette an pixel art :)

If you work on a better learning curve, introduce mechanism bit by bit (traps, power, slide jump...) and rework this camera, ping me, I'll be glad to re-test it, because I love the ambient of this game!

markwolf 2017-08-03 12:12

Great pixel art!

brorawr 2017-08-03 12:21

Add parallax background, smoothen up the animations and add a backstory and this game could be polished into a full game :) I see alot of potential in it, overall a great LD entry!

n-feofentov 2017-08-03 15:20

Nice art style. Though controls are bit irresponsive. Good luck!

eugene-opryshko 2017-08-03 18:01

Good game, art and animations are pleasant. I think, this game will have some potential if you split it into several levels (too hardkore for me :) ). Also there is a bug, that lets player jump on top of the level. It doesn't make game unplayable, but I just wanted you to know about it. Good luck on this LD)

recursor 2017-08-03 21:46

I was unable to make it past the first little spinner thing. I think the starting level layout is a bit too difficult.

theflyingkeyboard 2017-08-04 11:09

Really fun game to play, amazing idea, but needs more polishing: - it is a little bit too hard to play, - layout of level could be better.

Graphics looks nice and creates really nice mood. Good Job!

sbeif 2017-08-04 13:52

I just tried the updated version and encountered a bug: the wall jump fires automatically if you hit a wall while keeping C pressed from your first jump. Furthermore it is possible to jump through platforms. This led me to jump on top of the roof and reaching the end by just going right and then falling down.

zdeno 2017-08-04 17:39

The art and the music is really nice. Lower difficulty would be nice :grinning:

bombjack 2017-08-04 19:07

Thanks again for all your comments.

zelos 2017-08-04 19:52

Very good entry overall.

The graphics are really good. I enjoyed the artstyle and the animations a lot. You need to disable anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering in the Quality settings though, because you got a lot of graphical glitches that seem like they come from there.

The music isn't too bad as well. The SFX could be a lot better though. Especially the jumping sound kind of ruins the mood and is far too loud.

The gameplay is okay, but it feels really finnicky. I couldn't grab hold off the ledges many times and the attacking feels weird with the strange delay. It seems to be challenging, but I couldn't tell if it was the game itself or the controls that got me.

Overall awesome entry though. Great work.

terryg 2017-08-05 00:13

it is a very good looking game but i couldn't get past the first level

rikoclon 2017-08-05 09:02

It looks great aside from you sprite grid issue. I hate that your only attack hurts you and that you have very little life to begin with. your this evil demon guy but these little spike doodads wail on you. The colors were nice and I liked the character. the game play is far too tough way too early on. Even in ninja gaiden you could beat the first level. I'm all for a challenge but this was ridiculous, punishing even. The main character shouldn't be so weak if its a big evil looking demon. Instead of running out of power it was like I was already out of power at the start. Great job doing it on your own tho, seriously that is no easy feat and you should be very proud.

jusw85 2017-08-05 12:47

It's not bad, I liked the art and animation. Controls could use a bit of work, but it was ok, I got to the end of the level. I wasn't sure how to proceed from there though, there didn't seem to be any more content. Good job though!

silkworm-sweatshop 2017-08-05 14:21

I like the art and the music is pretty nice too (even if it's a short loop)! Didn't find the actual platforming challenges to be THAT hard personally but I'm pretty used to platformers. Instead, the difficulty came mostly from the unfair camera where you often can't tell what's above/below you. Some feedback when you get hit and invincibility frames would've helped too.

mik3 2017-08-05 16:22

The looks of the game were quite nice, I enjoyed the dark mood which was supported by the music as well. The controls haven't felt completely fluent for me, but nothing too bad, overall a good job.

minibobbo 2017-08-06 05:06

Nicely done! I like the idea and how it was implemented. I apparently didn't read the instructions very carefully because I didn't realize that using the sword cost you a soul and I was constantly dying in the first two areas. I actually liked the controls for the most part, and the mood was excellent!

Suggestions: - Make the soul sword free to use. Hopping around and using the sword to get that extra boost and dodge obstacles was the most fun for me, and then I figured out that was what was killing me every time. I felt like my options were "make an impossible jump hitting a trap, losing a soul" or "Use the sword to make the jump and lose the soul regardless". - I'd like to see unlimited wall slide. I think it was a little too short to be all that useful, and I couldn't ever get the hang of using it to get out of that pit near the beginning. I wanted to pull off a cool wall to wall between the traps jump but never could manage.

Bugs: -Like others have mentioned, there are lines that are showing between tiles sometimes. These are usually caused by the engine tracking positions as floats and trying to sample pixels just outside the tiles. I'm not sure about Unity, but sometimes you can fix it just by setting your zoom level on your camera to something like 1.05.

Nice entry!

eptwalabha 2017-08-06 09:48

Nice game, but my review will be only on the first part of the game as I didn't pass the first level.

positives: - graphics/art style are awesome - background music fits perfectly with the mood - Html version (I like to point it out as well)

negatives: - the jump mechanic is a bit clonky - too few souls at the beginning and no cooldown between two hits

I think the difficulty comes from the controls and the camera, not the level design. Instead of letting the player constantly jump, I suggest you should force the player to release the jump button before the next one. That way the wall jump mechanic would be more friendly.

I keep in mind you only had three days so that's a great game for that time span. Good job.

lereveur 2017-08-06 22:21

A little too hard for me, but it's normal (I sucks), the mood is strong, and the commands are fluid and responsive, that is crucial for a plateformer. Well done.

yawoada 2017-08-06 22:48

Really difficult but the presentation and interesting mechanic kept me going. I would suggest giving players either more maneuverability or more souls so they can tank more hits. Regardless, this is a great submission!

willdata 2017-08-07 00:36

Some collisions were really janky and I would have liked a better way to check my upcoming surroundings by being able to slightly shift the view. I did like the art of the game and the concept was interesting but was a bit too difficult for me to persist with.

fran-segura 2017-08-07 10:49

Interesting game with nice pixel art, loved the mood but maybe the difficulty gets too high really soon. Great work ;)

cttfow 2017-08-07 10:59

Great artstyle, but difficult gameplay. You might have wanted to make the beginning easier and the later parts more difficult.

theonethatneverwas 2017-08-07 13:44

Great game! It was a little difficult but was a fun experience. The mood is great, as well as the art style. Congrats to the team!

jimbly 2017-08-07 13:56

Gorgeous, but too hard for me, I couldn't get past the first swirly thing :(. I like the idea of your sword also drawing your health, nice take on the theme =).

nokusu 2017-08-07 15:17

Great concept with a good presentation, has a bit of issues though

**Positive stuff :** - The graphics were really good, i liked the style and overall mood of the game, i felt like it had a mix of shadow of the beast meets soul reaver with a more pixel style ^^ - The music, it fitted the mood of the game for that dark atmosphere - The little details like the minimalistic UI on top of your head, the soulsword, the walljumping, even the sound effects

**Negative stuff :** - The wall jumping mechanic, while a great idea, felt a bit clunky, jumping a bit too near a wall has an instant use of the wall jump - The camera was a bit too zoomed in and didn't help getting a good view of your surroundings - Some graphical glitches on the web version, i had these sort of lines that popped up ever so slightly

All in all, i'd say that's a solid concept otherwise, it just needs a bit of polish on some aspects, quite a good mood and presentation going on with this one

despite its small issues its a good game, well done dude :)

pedro-cipriano 2017-08-07 16:54

I loved your artwork! I think the beginning is too difficult, too many spikes while you are still learning how to control your character. Interesting mechanics like wall jumping.

gamechoy 2017-08-07 18:12

Great entry! Loved the art style and gameplay. I couldn't get very far but what I could get to was fun.

h-attila 2017-08-07 19:21

Really nice entry, although I found it a bit too hard. Couldn't finish it, always ran out of souls. The graphics and background track provided a great atmosphere but some of the sound effects were too cheesy for the game - especially the jump effect. Also, it would be nice to look down before jumping in a hole because right now you have no way of knowing what you're going to hit. Also, I have no idea what the use of the sword is but maybe I just didn't get to a point where it'd be helpful.

aterlamia 2017-08-07 19:28

A hard game but very stylish and fun to play, only thing i have to remark is that the screen was a bit small to play on but that might have been the intention so you could not see everything. Also it might be wiser to start a bit less hard to give the player some time to get used to the game, but than again i could see it a design choice to throw players into the deep right away.

elede 2017-08-07 19:42

Good game! It is difficult to me, I think I need practice more hahaha.

thaaks 2017-08-07 20:03

The graphics style is fantastic and the background music and dying sound as well. Unfortunately the jump sound ruined everything :-( The game idea is very good and fits the theme really well. I found the first level a bit too difficult and the jumping unforgiving... Smarter wall jumps & double jumps would have helped. Usage of the sword didn't do it for me - when I collide with an obstacle I loose one life, when I destroy it with the sword I loose one life...that could be improved game mechanics wise. Overall a very good entry - would love to play an enhanced version later!

eggshelldog 2017-08-07 23:50

Great Game! I love your art style, And it's fun to play! I died a lot and suddenly I think if there is an energy supply on my previous die position, the game can be more friendly and easier to play! I think a lot of players are going to need this. :joy:

edwingamedev 2017-08-08 01:01

I liked your game, good job! Things you should consider, the learning curve of your game is not good, i suggest you to make a easy start and then increase difficulty, a hard start keep players away from your game.

ava-skoog 2017-08-08 09:02

Nice game! Wanted to give a fair review, so played both the original and the fixed up version! c:

Started with the original and I just couldn't do it. Danger just out of sight and few lives to pick up along the way. Gave in eventually and moved on to the new version, which I managed to finish quite soon—but the irony was that along the way I actually got a lot better, so I decided to go back to the original and see if I could beat it now, recording my attempts, and I can finally present to you… TEH URN:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9aV4t8ZtPg

Mighty proud of m'self! I never did figure out when and why to use the sword tho, so I just never did, haha. Would like some clarity on that. p:

It's challenging! The original version does feel unfairly so, but of course you fixed pretty much every issue in the new version, and it was fun to have a "hard mode" to go back to after mastering that, at least!

The volume of the music was a bit too low compared to the sound effects. At first I didn't even really realise there was any music because I'd turned the volume up to a level where the sound effects were loud enough, and not until I picked up on the faint melody in the background did I turn the volume up more to find the music as well, which is a pity, considering the music was so good! Of course I did use speakers, but I'd balance it out anyway so that the sound effects don't grate too much on the ears with headphones either (the sound effects were good too; just the volume that's the issue).

It's a nice platformer, and the difficulty is of course warranted since jam games are generally really short, so it's pretty much the only way to make the game last for more than a minute. Good job! C:

gwinnell 2017-08-08 10:42

Really like the style and mood! Definitely too hard in the beginning though. Had a few minor gripes/thoughts/feedback while playing:

Pressing X to draw sword and jump a little higher doesn't add any jump height unless you press it at the tip of your jump, which feels kind of wrong. The animation for it seems to play quite late also, I feel like it should play a lot quicker to time in with the arc of that extra jump height. I'm also uncertain when I'm supposed to use the sword-jump because quite often I can wall jump or 'bug' up the platform in a similar way. Usually when wall jumping you as the player are pushed off the wall at a velocity and that means you don't stick to it. This didn't have that and I felt like I was cheating somewhat.

Final thing. The 'losing power' sound when you touch a red thing (and use your sword, technically, but that's less important) sort-of blends into the background music - should be some more visual feedback when that happens.

Sorry if that's super critical. I did enjoy it! Figure it's best to say in case you want to improve or make another platformer in the future.

fwazle 2017-08-08 19:21

I really liked the mood of this game. One thing I would suggest is adding a temporary invincibility after losing a soul. Otherwise a player can lose all of the souls on a single obstacle. Overall, Well done! :3

simplepotential 2017-08-08 21:28

Not bad, very difficult or I really suck at it (probably the later). I like the feel of the game but I couldn't make it very far. Perhaps if I started with more energy I could have.

jaimuepe 2017-08-08 21:31

The art and music are nice, but as others have said game has some issues. The difficulty is too high in the beginning and the controls feel clunky - the wall jump works weird sometimes. Also, i got hit by the same set of spikes multiple times because i walked on them; maybe add a short window of invincibility after taking damage.

mastersmith98 2017-08-09 22:32

Interesting concept. I think if you expanded on it, it become a very fun game. Right now I see several flaws. There's no indication of damage taken and the window of invulnerability after damage taken is too short, so I found myself being damaged multiple times by one thing in a single action. The level design is so confined that you don't give the player much freedom to find creative ways to traverse, so generally there is only one optimum route to go through it. Managing your soul count is interesting, but it could be greatly expanded upon. Right now it just seems like an extended time period after you die. If you had a boosted speed mechanics for when you are low, or anything else to make this state of the game more interesting.

Also I found the wall jumping to work half the time. It seems like the window of checking if you are jumping off a wall is too small.

Overall I think this is a good entry for the jam and I would love to see a more expanded version of this mechanic.

The wall jump is cool but it would be nice if you could slide down the wall and use it anytime rather than get a second gap to do it when you first touch the wall, that plus the laggy, too high camera makes it really difficult to go down without hitting loads of obsticals. Aesthetic is really cool though!

Brilliant graphics and animations. The music really added a sense of danger. The 8bit jump and collect sound effects seemed out of place. The difficulty could have ramped a little more slowly! Overall I had fun playing this, so thanks!

Art is nice and unique making it obvious what hurts me and where it is safe. Music has an nice feel to it and fits well with the darker tones of the graphics. It felt like the wall jumping is a huge part of this game but it was hard to control for me. I agree with a previous comment in that the wall jumping should either be "sticky" to allow me time to think where I am going or "slow descend" (a.k.a slide) so I can get a feel for where I am aiming at. For me, in general, when I jump in a game I feel like lose control so giving me just a second longer on the wall to plan my next jump really helps :)

The art and music create a really interesting atmosphere (slightly spoiled by the jumping noise unfortunately). Movement felt pretty good, but some way to view the surroundings would be helpful - I'm thinking specifically of the blind drop into spikes before entering the lower area of the map. Also came across a bug where I was able to get out of the top of the map - ended up going off the side and falling forever. Really interesting concept though - with some balance and polish, I think this could be made into a great metroidvania style game.

I like the art and the background music. Jump noise was bad as it breaks the atmosphere of the game (too 'simple plataform' for a 'darker' game) Some parts you can't know if there's something bellow so you have to go down and perhaps lose a life... Feels kinda a 'die once to memorize the map to not die later' The wall jump seems somewhat off, or maybe I'm bad at it.

The game seems nice tho. The demon has a nice art :D

Maybe set two levels of difficult, in the easiest one setting a 'hit cooldown' so you can take to much damage at once.

Adding a story line would make a nice pos-jam game

mspawa 2017-08-11 01:37

OMG I suck at this kind of games xD I keep killing the poor demon once and once again :( Maybe it could start with a little less difficulty and then go harder? So you can learn how to control and move the demon a little. But I enjoyed the game a lot, it has a really beautiful art and I also like the music and sound FX.

Really good work, team :)

I really like the aesthetic of this entry. The pixel art is very detailed and I love the minimalist use of colors. The music does a good job of contributing to the mood of the game, though the jump sound effect seems out of place. I like the idea of making the double jump a limited resource, but theming it as a sword slash is a confusing decision. You'd think that this would let you kill enemies, but it seems that it's just a jump (at least as far as I got in the game). Also, the controls could be a bit fiddly as wall jumping is not always reliable. This is a really interesting premise for a game and I love the aesthetic, but the movement would need to feel more natural for the game to flow properly. Despite these issues, this is a really interesting and gorgeous entry that I enjoyed playing. Nice work!

Thanks a lot for all your constructive comment. And congrats to Ava Skoog (@ava-skoog) for beating the hard one

Hard to play (controls) but really good pixel art.

The Concept seems solid. Along with some very nice graphics that are sort of sharp around the edges (which fits the setting).

That said this was pretty difficult. That might have been by design or just a happenstance of limited time when making a platformer. Either way I would say you have all the right pieces together. I would say the difficulty could do with a slow ramping up if you intend the game to be a harder platformer. Along with adding a bit of a leeway between hits when taking damage. Sort of like when characters flash white or transparent in older games. They can't take more damage until the flashing stops.

Otherwise nice work. I like the setting and the graphics. It feels like a good foundation to work from.

I thought it was way too hard right away. The music is too dramatic as well. What's so dramatic? At the start of the game the player doesn't know that.

somnium 2017-08-12 21:23

Hard game! I was unable to progress very far.

But very nice pixel art!

A little hard for me, but a very nice game. Great mood. Congrats.

wolderado 2017-08-13 10:49

Game is kinda hard. I didn't able to progress much

kerdelos 2017-08-13 19:58

I tried both the compo and the post compo version and both are super hard. Also I was disapointed to not be able to kill stuff with my demon sword. Apart from that I loved the visuals and the music, excellent job on this one :)

tbaudon 2017-08-14 13:56

Nice game overall but i think it misses some feedback when taking damage and some invulnerabilty frame would be good too. I died a lot on the first floor spike because they inflict two damages immediatly because of no invulnerabilty frame. plus i think they are barely visible. So i think all it lakes is some better damage feedback and more contrast for dangerous elements and it's all good 👍 nice dramatic audio too wich add to the mood

edit : sorry i just saw that your default link is the post jam version (not really fair, this should be the link labelled as 'other') , i'll play the original and change my feedback accordingly.

Nice game! The graphics look awesome, the music is good, but it lacks some of the basics of any game, like a main menu explaining the controls and an exit button for a quick end of the game. Some story would also improve the game a lot, and the screen fading out and then fading in again when you die instead of a sharp teleport would also be good, and to be able to see your lives all the time, so you know which jumps are possible with the amount of health you've got!

Overall, I enjoyed it. It just needs some more improvements!

franklins-ghost 2017-08-16 15:06

Liked the visuals in this, thought the colour choices worked well and liked the character design. Did find the game a bit difficult for me at the start and wish it eased the player in a bit more earlier.

bluellama 2017-08-17 14:19

Controls were simple, and cool though it was the wall jumping felt a little weird. Nice pixel art as well!

lavwa 2017-08-18 15:02

Amazing game ! I LOVE the art, seriously, pretty well done for a LD. Great music, putting the player in the mood instantly. A little bit difficult, but not enough to stop me ;) Nice work !

daniel-olsson 2017-08-19 14:11

Okay game, but my controls were bugging making me walking without pressing the keyboard

pitpony 2017-08-20 10:03

Really nice graphics and I think the sounds and music work well too, giving the game a dark tone. I think the controls need tuning a little and the difficulty is a bit punishing. Good job though :)

gonutz 2017-08-20 10:38

Hey I did it! Plus I jumped up out of the level :-)

This game is really cool, really sick graphics and nice dark background music. The bunny remings me of the overgrowth protagonist :-)

This is really just a platformer so the theme is not met in my opinion, BUT it is a really cool one. It has the double jump and the high difficulty level, really nice.

Overall a solid entry, keep up the good work!

frogcheese 2017-08-21 14:17

Pixelart is great, and the sound creates a really nice ambience. I found that the platforming was a bit too punishing, though. The controls were a bit difficult to manage with the jump seeming to be about the same height regardless of how long you push the jump button. Combined with some really difficult obstacle placement there were plenty of spots that I could barely ever get past unhurt.

fillefilip8 2017-08-22 09:22

Nice graphics but the game was a bit hard

2017-10-31 15:55

Lovely graphics, challenging game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hFP2TT_L4k
