Nice groundwork, reminds me a lot on Reigns. I had some fun managing my country but the dialogues and events repeated early in my first playthrough. But I guess producing content for such a game is taking some time. May we'll see an update at some point?
@gagapete The events are selected at random, so they're bound to repeat often in some playthroughs. I've added a ton of them, but it's still very noticeable sometimes. I think about 60% of my time was spent purely on writing content, it takes really long to get a basic set of events for a game like this. I hope to update the game sometime after Ludum Dare, but I'd like to write an event editor for it first. It's becoming a hassle to handle everything manually in plain text. Also, thanks for your review and rating!

I found out that scrolling the mouse wheels rapidly skips through events, I was trying to recenter the screen when I ended up skipping about a million panels.
@oxrock What? That's not supposed to happen. I also can't reproduce it on my system. And as far as I know, I didn't implement anything to skip events, not even in debug mode :stuck_out_tongue:. Maybe, for some reason, when you scroll your mousewheel it emulates multiple mouse clicks? And those happened to be right on top of one of the options? That's about one of the only ways I can think of that such behaviour would happen... *EDIT:* Weird, now I can reproduce that. It only happens if the mouse is indeed over one of the options while scrolling. I'll see if I can fix that. *EDIT 2:* This has now been fixed. I've updated the description to detail these changes as per the compo rules.

I got to day 103 because I just kept attacking everyone and then I couldn't stop the others from taking my land to rule over my apparently unhappy people :P
I love Reigns and a few LD's ago I made a game that was also Reigns like :D They're so much fun to make and play, it takes so long to make content and it seems to get repeated SO easily. I understand the struggle haha! Good job, it's fun to play!

Good job you've done here! I guess we both interpreted the themes similarly, since my game is also about managing a council . It's quite impressive how you much content you've managed to add within 48 hours. I also like the map, and the idea of having neighbouring nations absorb your territory. The dialogue is quite amusing as well. I think one way to improve this game would be to have more variables - like visible population, or army size - that might add a deeper level of strategy to the game, sort of like Reigns. Graphics look very clean too. Great job!
@btwj Thanks for your comment! I still have an entire list full of things I wanted to add in - including more visualizations like you've mentioned. But writing all the content in the game took a big chunk of my time (about 60% of the entire weekend I'd wager), so I had to scrap a lot of things sadly. I might update it after Ludum Dare though!
Great work. This is a fun game and it's very well written. Also, Godot! <3 On my first play-through I scored 60... I wasn't sure whether that's any good so I decided to compare it against another play-through where I just rapidly selected any response; on that second run I scored 130! So I guess I suck at ruling a kingdom! ;)
@cakemonitor Well, there is a (substantial) degree of randomness involved also. Both in which events you get and in how aggressive the neighbouring countries are, so it could be that you just had bad luck in your first run (or great luck in the second one, depending how you look at it)

Hey man awesome game
I really loved the concept and your interpretation of 'power', and I think the game fits the theme really well! Other than that the simple game play was easy to get into and the amount of influence the player's choices had made a satisfying play

Screenshot from 2017-08-02 11-36-07.png We have a null pointer exception, let's wait this one out.
Having spent 400 hours on Paradox strategies, I enjoyed Stonemont just as much, but it felt repetitive with the church event hitting every three days.

46 days, I think I made some bad decisions :p
Grima refenrence is really cool, especially that he is your personal advisor :p Whole game concept is nice, because single actions result in changes to whole country. Additionally, all advisors were different from each other and interesting.
Really solid entry, good job!
Very nice and ambitious game! I got to day 94 before my entire country was invaded! Dialogue repeated quite a lot (in fact in the end it seemed like only a few different dialogues were repeating over and over until I lost). Of course I can imagine writing dialogue for a game like this takes some time, so that's understandable :)
A bit unfortunate that there is no sounds or music; I feel like that's very important for any kind of game, although this might be the type of game that suffers the least from not having it.
Overall the game was a lot of fun. It was very ambitious for a game jam, but I feel like you spent your time on the right things (except a little sound/music would have been nice). You didn't try to jam (pun intended!) too many features into the game, and instead focused on just a single aspect of managing your kingdom, and you pulled that of very well. Great job!
Nice idea (well, it's Reigns without Tinder controls, but it's fine) and visuals, but the game itself got very repetitive very fast. Plus, I found it very hard to lose. I was on 100+ days, my economy was crashing every 20 turns, and yet the game just carried on, spending days, notifying me, that each province ran out of money, one at a time.

Great job. It is a intelligent game :) But is it possible to conquer other countrys? It even work on mobile :D but if you make the answer bigger it would be easier to touch it. Good job :D
Great game, I enjoyed the dialogue! I thought that the UI could have used some improvement, like showing the amount of unrest, where the troops were, etc.

This is an ambitious project you worked out in a short amount of time, congratz!
Good job on the game mechanism and event scripting. It is simple, yet effective. I also liked the dry humor.
I felt like change happened a little too fast to work on a strategy in the game, but very nice implementation! Looks like everybody else has mentioned the Reigns similarities, which are hard to not mention, but I thought you did a really good job of recreating that style of game.

Love the Reigns-like gameplay, I think you have done a good job to differentiate your game with the original. The graphics are nicely drawn and the events are interesting. I think the game is quite well balanced and enjoyable to play. However, the lack of music and sound made the game a bit static and ultimately the events started repeating and it becomes a bit repetitive which is inevitable due to the game jam time limit. However, love your work!
@jackyjjc Thank you for your great feedback! Sadly, sound was one of the things I had to cut due to the time restraints. I rather wanted to have a few more events than sound/music with almost nothing to do, but I do fully agree that the game would have been better with some music playing in the background...

Super neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKdZrHdMrvE
