This was pretty cool and really good for your first game. Like you said, it's very simple, and it would be cool if you made it more challenging either through puzzles or platforming. Pretty cool though. I liked it.

alwaysgeeky 2012-04-23 23:00

Nice one, great for a first game!

mattchu 2012-04-23 23:02

It is a bit simple, and at times it felt a bit too slow paced. However, it's an interesting concept, and it felt like it provided a gradual difficulty increase.

toast 2012-04-23 23:03

I think you should have had less levels. The pacing is WAAY too slow, the early levels are tedious at best. So that's just a game design flaw.

But congratulations, you should be proud of making your first game. And the later levels do get more interesting.

devince 2012-04-23 23:04

I like the ambiance you set.

johnfn 2012-04-23 23:06

Cute game :-) Really liked the idea.

One thought: boost that movement speed! I ended up spending a lot of time just walking around...

funkydelpueblo 2012-04-23 23:08

What I think it really cool about this title is that its essentially a 1-D game: the entire gameplay could be represented by a single line of pixels!

skully 2012-04-23 23:14

It got boring pretty quickly, I don't understand why it kept saying "the world's too big"?
I gave up when I died and it became impossible to carry on if you die as the boats stay across the water.
I like the effect of walking around the planet though

jungorend 2012-04-23 23:16

The screen went black after I beat a certain level, not sure if it was supposed to do that? Great game though!

pmcp 2012-04-24 01:10

I had the same thing with the boat not resetting, and yeah it was kinda slow and frustrating but I really felt the game had loads of potential. I can imagine levels where there are planes and trains and all different mechanics for getting around the level in different ways that could make for some really interesting puzzles. I'd love to see what this could become if you had more time.

heugamer 2012-04-24 03:19

You knows what's funny I was going to add trains and planes but time wasn't on my side! :(

heugamer 2012-04-24 22:54

Uploading the Standalone, so the R will work and the Ending should work now. Sorry for any confusion, not sure why the webplayer wont work. If you do not want to play long, then please go ahead with the webplayer. Thank You!

nihilocrat 2012-04-25 01:13

Congrats on your first game!

murrayl 2012-04-25 01:14

Really liked the idea behind this one although, as others have said, it takes a long time before the game gets more interesting. Was good fun once it got going.

My main gripe would be that the character moves too slowly! An increase in walking/sailing speed would make the game much less tedious in places.

kevinworkman 2012-04-25 02:10

Web link gives me a 404 :C

heugamer 2012-04-25 02:18

There the Webplayer should work now, but i would still recommend you use the Standalone because the webplayer has a major bug.

aeveis 2012-04-25 02:26

cool for your first game. The mechanic became boring though, The orbs didn't really make sense. Why did it do those things? I guess in the future think about how the parts in the game can better connect and support each other. If you were looking for your bro the whole time, how come he was already home at the end? The idea needs to be clarified.

jimmypaulin 2012-04-25 19:45

I think this is really good, esp for a first effort. Good colours, good art style and animation, gradually increasing difficulty puzzles that just stay the right side of frustrating. A story to drive you on and an ending that comes after not too long - some conclusion to the plot might have been nice, but its the complete package so thanks

jhelle 2012-04-25 20:33

Enjoyable but a bit slow paced.

spooks 2012-04-25 20:54

That game was nice! I loved the walk/boat animation. Unity for 2D is great!

telluse 2012-04-25 20:54

At first I had no idea how you would introduce anything challenging, but it came with the zombies, indeed. Good fun.

bitslap 2012-04-25 21:24

You had me at the intro.

thatsnail 2012-04-25 23:38

Big plus on graphics and innovation but the gameplay was rather slow, like others have said. Very cool idea.

rybar 2012-04-26 03:13

Yes, for your first game this is a great entry! Very interesting to see something so minimal/2d done in Unity. I liked the idea, but it was a little too simple and slow paced.

fatsquirrel 2012-04-26 03:17

Good work for your first game and dare.

sampyxis 2012-04-26 03:19

Very nice- love the music

omaha 2012-04-26 03:21

great game all around. very nicely done.

olkeencole 2012-04-26 18:22

The graphics are nice and consistent. The walk animation is cute. It definitely didn't need to be so long as the gameplay doesn't change much. I think the relentless search is a good story. It just needs to be supplemented by additional puzzles or gameplay mechanic. Good first job though. Keep it up!

divillysausages 2012-04-26 20:16

I really like the idea, but as you can only go left or right, it becomes a task of how long you're willing to hold down the arrow button. Congrats on your first finished game!

scgrn 2012-04-27 03:20

Slow paced, but nice game.

r3ason 2012-04-27 03:20

Pretty clever for a first game! Congrats and thanks for sharing!

mneubrand 2012-04-27 03:23

Nice little game. Progresses a little slow and gets repetitive after a while. Maybe add some more game play mechanics.

The start of this game was pretty slow but it ramped up just enough to get me playing right through to the end. Great concept but it could really use some more challenging gameplay. Graphics and music suited very nicely to make a great mood/tone to the game. All in all good work for your first game!

orangepascal 2012-04-27 06:44

would need more gameplay, but as it is now, it's almost a zen like experience ;) I liked it

pinkmonkeyhead 2012-04-27 15:26

Nice gfx, but you could add some dificulty

moth 2012-04-28 06:14

Very cute game! I enjoyed the rectangular aesthetic and the concept of a world that wraps around indefinitely. I think that's a very great employment of the theme!

I think the game became funnest when there were obstacles that necessitated skill and timing- getting an orb behind an enemy, or walking as a part of a large troupe of enemies. If you go further places with this looping world idea past the compo, I'd like to see more things like that added in- perhaps maybe enemies that go up and down from the world, like the Mario Thwomps. Maybe in the levels where you have to turn back around and head towards the start, the last trigger-orb can make enemies, perhaps sea monsters, appear to make your way back more dangerous.

I think it's very promising, and quite an inventive concept for such an early effort in your programming career!

unicornpooping 2012-04-28 15:43

Add platforming! If you worked that into it, you'd have an amazing game. Really like what you did though :-) good job

dukope 2012-04-30 08:06

Charming presentation. Gameplay is simple but surprisingly fun. I was able to get the boats to go across land by entering/exiting them quickly. Neat bug :)

ratboy2713 2012-05-01 21:08

The character moves too slowly and the opening cut scene takes far too long.

recursor 2012-05-02 11:27

This was a pretty cool concept although I felt that it was a bit lacking in the difficulty department and perhaps a bit slow. It is difficult to find that balance in 48 hours. If you check out my game you'll find that I had the opposite problem.

endurion 2012-05-03 14:21

Beside the really simple gameplay (there's not too much you can do wrong) a really cool idea.
I like the cube world and the sprites in general.

Good one!

benw 2012-05-08 01:54

Was a bit too slow paced.

azurenimbus 2012-05-10 19:30

It was very endearing :)
