Very nice, I would definitely keep working on it and release it! I'd like to see more of a visual difference between the seasons and maybe a health/damage metre? Loved the feel of the controls and the animations - good luck!

airrider3 2012-04-26 16:29

Oh! The plot makes it look like a cool game to play!
What a shame there is no web/Mac version :( Try to make one for your next LD! :)

raptor85 2012-04-26 16:33

I kinda like the graphical style but can't test since you don't have a linux version and it's XNA4 so it won't run under WINE :/

pabloam 2012-04-26 16:33

Good job with the change of Night to day.
The game just need a system of health to improve the feedback to the player.

Good job.

raptor85 2012-04-26 16:34

oops, doublepost, hit the wrong save button again...

demonpants 2012-04-26 17:08

Any hope of a Mac port?

arkazon 2012-04-26 17:11

Not bad, quite good fun. A visible health bar would have been nice, I had no idea I even had one until I died, also the dead enemy splats are rendered over the top of the player character which makes it a little awkward at times. Few updates though and it could be a cool phone game.

flaxenflash 2012-04-26 17:19

@demonpants afraid not, I haven't done much non windows based development yet so I wouldn't even know where to start. I also don't have the time, couple of assignments due soon I need to work on :(

zorf 2012-04-26 17:22

Nice and quite fun to play. Some villagers to save would have been cool. Oh, and a health bar.

davedobson 2012-04-26 17:38

I liked it. The biggest problem for me is there's not a lot of game there, and there's not much feedback to your actions (except when the guys die). If you had some more complex actions (multiple attack types), and some indication of when you or the monsters were wounded, that would help a lot. Controls were very smooth and clear (I liked the directional indicator), and I really liked the graphic style - unusual and engaging.

vdogamez 2012-04-26 17:52

This is an extremely pretty looking game, though I feel that there's a significant lack of feedback with the fighting, such as to how hurt you are, how hurt the enemy is, or if you're even making contact. It also feels like you really aren't really in that much danger if you ignore the enemies. I assumed the enemies were going to try to attack the statue but if you leave them be they just stand there.

flaxenflash 2012-04-26 21:09

@DaveDobson @VDOgamez yeah, I didn't have time for a health bar, or any other form of feedback other than being knocked back a bit when you are damaged. AI is simple for now, I did intend to have them come after you once the town is destroyed as well as enemies that would just hunt you. Thanks for you feedback, I appreciate it.

I like the concept but I think this game is definately lacking some feedback. Suggestions below such as a HP bar and more visuals for seasons would be good to see, also perhaps the monsters could flash red when they are hit. Sound would also be a good addition to this game. Not quite there for me but a good result for your first Dare especially in the solo 48 compo.

invaderjim 2012-04-26 22:21

Nice idea, and great style. Could really use some sounds, tho. Overall great job for your first LD! :)

flaxenflash 2012-04-26 22:27

@Evil Cult @invaderJim Thanks for the feedback! Feedback is something I definitely intend to add. Sound is my weak spot, I have no idea what to do when it comes to it and it always slips down my priority list. Wish I had done some though since getting some atmosphere was my main goal.

jwolf 2012-04-26 22:31

I think it needs more things to do...more variety, whether in the combat department or in a longer term RPG or strategic sense. Anyway, keep it up! It's a decent start.

flaxenflash 2012-04-26 22:44

@jwolf thanks, I intend to add more combat variety as well as more enemies to add more strategy.

lukerissacher 2012-04-27 00:46

Nice graphics and smooth framerate. Gameplay didn't have much going on though - would be nice to have more variety (probably a time constraint thing I imagine).

mach60kas 2012-04-28 16:13

I quite enjoyed the gameplay - though I feel a visual indicator of the player's health would help out a lot!

With the sound effects there are a few sound generators that work nicely for simple video game sounds that are very easy to use. I haven't really worked with them too much but http://www.bfxr.net/ is one that you could try out.

caranha 2012-04-29 14:45

Interesting game. However, it is a bit hard to get into the game.

First of all, the game needs some feedback to let the player know what is going on: for example, a health bar so that we know how far the hero is from dying, health bars to the buildings and monsters as well. Some sound for monster and hero hits would help a lot too!

Also, the monster corpses, while a nice idea, are getting drawn above the hero - a simple way to solve this is to call your "render hero" routine AFTER your "render monsters" routine.

I liked the "you die" game over screen a lot.

Good first effort! Hope to see you again next LD!

johanp 2012-05-01 14:53

Nice little game! Some meters to display progress/health/etc would be fab!

misfit 2012-05-03 14:41

Nice little game, but needs sounds.

robcozzens 2012-05-06 00:39

I would play it, but I'm on an iMac.

cadin 2012-05-08 15:38

Sorry I can't play, I'm Mac-only.

ddrkirbyisq 2012-05-11 12:02

Not too bad for a first attempt ^^; Let's go better next time.

jellyfame 2012-05-13 20:37

Unfortunately don't have access to windows.
