LD23 — Tiny World

Leaving the Tiny Earth by TSJ666 2012-05-13T14:26:00

Very good to get the game in there that you did in the time. Sure it's rough around the edges. As its pretty much a clone of Terraria/MC it's not original, but of course working to a restriction can enable productivity which is a great lesson to learn as well.

WTF World by Misfit 2012-05-05T14:08:00

Very interesting idea. I bet there are lots of cool things that could be done with this. Played for some time and then exe crashed on a replay of level 2 and looked like it affected stuff on my desktop (which was very unusual so I doubt it will happen to other people) so I didn't run it again, which was a shame :(

WTF World by Misfit 2012-05-06T08:52:00

Yeah it was certainly something not to worry about on the desktop - but it was disconcerting! I had played a lot and had gone back to WTF anyway, which is a major compliment for LD games seeing as most don't have enough features to warrant more than 5 minutes play (no insult intended to anyone btw)

Save the tiny world! by davidllanos22 2012-04-27T16:21:00

Excellent music and good (if hard) gameplay. Looks nice too!

Boxed in. by PIXEL^3 2012-05-07T10:19:00

Excellent game. Not just because of it's polish but because the game has given rise to puzzles that show the designer's brain trying to tease the gameplayer's brain fairly :) I like that sort of stuff!

Zilla the Destroyer by deps 2012-05-03T21:53:00

I really like the vector graphics. I was just overwhelmed by choppers at the end, but it was still fun to splat them to pieces for as long as I could.

Poor Pluto by flownerous 2012-05-05T13:39:00

Highest score 2462 - longest chain 46. I am not very good.

Game brought a big smile to my face - very straight forward and good fun. While I struggled massively with abrupt changes of attack I kept playing. I could see this either being tidied up a bit to be a cool minigame in a full release, or having many cool tweaks to make it really polished looking and give the gameplay some more legs.

Excellent for 8 hours. Big smiley face is nice.

Disastronaut by Jeffalisk 2012-05-03T22:21:00

Played it until the end and I actually wanted to as well! I enjoyed playing it and the ending cheered me up!

Green War on Earth by Rokaydev 2012-05-08T23:09:00

Nice to get in the audio and sound effects too. I found the 2nd and repeated levels easier than the first!

Tiny Crash Landing by Ranoka 2012-05-13T20:34:00

Good to get some stuff working, including audio which is more than I ever attempt. Cute artwork definitely - so keep going!

Bacterial World by mneubrand 2012-05-06T23:56:00

Straight forward and enjoyable. I can't get very far with my reactions though!

Tiny Room by chaosBrick 2012-05-03T21:43:00

Cute menus and lots of bullets and powerups which was nice. The sound effects and music were decent. I also got massive slowdown and wasn't sure if it was deliberate or not! I wished it was at times to give me a better chance of dodging. I only have manged to get 6th in the high score table so far.

Serendipity with Cubes by halogenica 2012-04-30T05:53:00

Very nice. Once I'd worked out what to do it was enjoyable - although I admit I had a hard time being able to plan ahead to avoid "floaters" because the next two pulsing cubes to join was random. Those are small, tweakable things, and overall it was worth playing.

orange thing by elvis75k 2012-05-03T21:47:00

For a first attempt - you've got jumping, moving platforms and parallax backgrounds (always a must!). Congrats!

Watercolour by Super Soul 2012-05-03T22:15:00

I enjoyed it - got stuck in an area and could do nothing but wait until the end of the world! I didn't mind. Really liked the look and the music was very very good.

tiny hostile world by Akunate 2012-05-05T13:43:00

I enjoyed this quite a lot - the collision detection could do with some tweaking (I expect you know this of course!) but otherwise I'd have loved to carry on to reach the "desperate but just under control" stage I like on these sorts of panic-inducing games.

Tiny Galaxy by Robert Swan 2012-04-23T00:53:00

The game is completable. If any of you get all 6 artifacts I'd be interested to know - and also roughly how long it took you.
Thanks!

Tiny Galaxy by Robert Swan 2012-04-23T01:13:00

Bah, I meant NO INSTALLER required. Site too slow for me to correct it!

Tiny Galaxy by Robert Swan 2012-04-24T11:51:00

There's a new version with minor bugfixes which are listed in the main text above. Thanks for playing guys! I'd like to point out that only having one life was not a gameplay choice - it was a "running out of time" choice. New version here:

Tiny Galaxy by Robert Swan 2012-04-24T14:33:00

I've added a Spoiler sheet along with the download links in the main entry. It contains hints to all the items and artifacts.

Tiny Galaxy by Robert Swan 2012-04-26T09:21:00

Thanks for all the kind comments. As it was clear that the permadeath contributed massively to frustration I spent an hour this morning adding a restart to make the game way less punishing. See the top of this page for the new v_02! Thanks again, people!

Tiny Galaxy by Robert Swan 2012-04-27T11:19:00

Luke - the game (and minecraft itself) uses regular triangle meshes. There's no way a custom renderer avoiding gfx card usage could get the throughput of cubes fast enough. Gfx card's can chuck these numbers of triangles out no problems - the real trick is generating and uploading new meshes very very quickly everytime the cubes change.

v2 does seem to be important. I'm kind of kicking myself as it only took an hour to do and I knew the permadeath was going to be a problem. I had stopped coding at 1am with v0 to give me an hour to upload it, not realising that I could have coded until 2am and LD gave us an hour to upload after that... so I don't feel too bad if people review v2 :)

AdventuresInTinyWorld by billknye 2012-05-05T13:33:00

I try to avoid commenting on the what I think are obvious flaws the author knows about but didn't have time to fix (such as the flawed physics and the awkwardness/impossibility of escaping the other cats).

I played it a fair bit trying to even see the ball at the end but no chance. The gfx were ok, and getting in audio was good. Joypad control in XNA would have been easy and made life easier, but maybe you don't have an Xbox controller. With some changes to the physics and changing the level to make moving around easier this could be the basis of a solid platform game. I like cats so the bum wiggle is a win for me!

Penguin by asfdfdfd 2012-05-06T21:07:00

Only a few minor things that were confusing but I'm sure you know this. I played for some time and enjoyed it.

BamSquitch by Valeour 2012-05-06T20:28:00

Nice. Simple and nicely thought out levels - there is an actual "game" here! Congrats.

12 Days in a Snow Globe by derdragon 2012-05-06T20:43:00

Very nice looking game. Could easily see adding a few more things to do would turn this from a 48-hour game into something that would draw people back repeatedly. I played for a few days until I realised I had essentially "beaten" it. The quality of what was laready there made me feel more was going to happen!

We're going to need another Gnomy! by Ghoul159 2012-05-05T13:49:00

Throwing the gnomes was nice, I enjoyed the audio too. So a complete product - but I'm sure you are aware (as everyone is) that the difficulty made it impossible to play for more than a minute! Unless there is a strategy we were unaware of. Could have been great with some tweaks.

My Little Planetoid by matthias_zarzecki 2012-04-25T11:47:00

Great! I did get one zone that after I trashed I couldn't build on - but only a minor point when the rest was raelly interesting.

Pin Party by cambrian_era 2012-05-05T18:35:00

Far too hard... and maybe swapping wasd and arrow keys would help some of us used to other configs too :) Shame as I like these games, and this did look cool

(Tiny) Worlds of Illusion by madmaw 2012-05-08T23:01:00

Again, not sure about the theme. But 6 stars out of 5 for innovation! Fantastic idea - really had me doubting my eyes at points which I love.

LittlePlanetBigRocket by daredevildave 2012-04-24T14:38:00

Nice concept! More levels required :)

Out for arrest by Kyatric 2012-05-08T19:50:00

Hard but fun. A great idea. Could do with better or different clues for the bad guys but was novel. Reminded me of a game I saw years ago, back in the days of Doom, where someone set out to have a Doom-like fps with 1000s of mobs walking around, and you have to run through them and spot the few miscreants in the middle. That was hard too!

ResourceCollector by SaiKai 2012-04-24T13:17:00

I played this for quite a while - but it would crash after a few minutes every time while piling into a group of aliens and trying to take them all out at once.

Having said that, I kept replaying it hoping it would get past it so it means I was genuinely enjoying myself once I worked out the keys!

Searching for Heaven by demonpants 2012-05-03T22:05:00

For the short period of time that is excellent. One of the few original games on here that could easily be expanded into a full title. Impressive!

Save the World by Derek 2012-05-08T19:40:00

Nice small little game. A bit of tweaking to make it a bit easier would have gone a long way. Or maybe I'm just rubbish, which is very likely.

IOTA by OPifexEntertainment 2012-04-24T13:49:00

The picking up specks was pretty hard but I carried on anyway! Nice ambince. My laptop runs most games (LD or commercial) ok, but iota hung my machine (well I was getting 1 frame every 30 seconds) once I got to the second stage so couldn't see any more.

Tiny Cubic Maze World by tomhunt 2012-05-07T23:26:00

I are very win. Could be taken a lot further as there's a solid and clean base game. On some faces you had the "puzzles" where you had to chase around the sides a bit. These were the funnest.

The Lair by Lilleman 2012-05-05T14:02:00

I won! Audio + proper end goal + end of game boss = cool.

This Precious Land by Ishisoft 2012-05-05T14:23:00

One of the few games that I've come back to and even now my girlfriend wants to play. Very nice!
