LD39 — Running out of Power

Lights Out by MikomiKisomi 2017-08-06T02:09:19Z

The game has impressive character artwork, considering the 72 hour time constraint. The stormy mood for the game is set really well with its lighting. Some problems I had with the game is that the ending feels exposition heavy, I wish there was more to do in the game other than to search through rooms, and (my largest complaint) I wish there was a better indicator of where doorways are, especially in the hallways, where there are no light switches.

Overall, an intriguing linear story game, but suffers from a few problems.

E.M.P. by TheMadStrauss 2017-08-01T21:36:31Z

I felt that the game, while short, was really fun, and the graphics, while simplistic, still fit the game well and looked very nice. The music and lighting really fit the game's foreboding atmosphere. I felt that the puzzles were fairly intuitive, except for the child lock and the hydrolysis. I also had some minor difficulty climbing down the stairs.

Overall, a very fun and short experience that I wouldn't mind seeing expanded upon in the future.

Socketbound by Wekaj 2017-08-02T18:33:04Z

The graphics give off a nice Game Boy feel, but the sluggish controls make for frustrating movement and combat, which is exacerbated by the enemies requiring more than one hit to defeat.

Overall, it's nice looking and the concept makes for an intriguing game, but the slow controls bog the game down.

Lightrunner by dalbinblue 2017-08-01T05:12:48Z

Excellent graphics, music, and gameplay.

I thought some sections were a little too difficult personally (like a section where you have to dash, then jump in a zigzag pattern to collect energy, then dash again), but the game embraces the difficulty it has without ever feeling like it is trying to be too unfair.

It's amazing that a game with a map of such size and quality was completed in 48 hours, great work!

VoltRush by Reiv 2017-08-03T03:13:43Z

The game's short length and tight controls accommodate its gameplay, making this game very fun to play. It was a nice touch to add a restart button so the player could restart if they had a lost run. If I would recommend anything to add, it would possibly be an end screen upon completing the game.

Nice work!

Take my charge by josehzz 2017-08-01T21:58:59Z

The graphics are simple, yet they are smooth and very pleasing to the eye. The sound effects are pleasing as well and suit the ambient theme. Overall, its a fun and well made game, though moving across moving platforms and jumping off moving platforms can be slightly janky at times.

Low Battery by MaggardJosh 2017-08-06T20:49:01Z

The game is like Nitrome's Turnament with a nice twist. The graphics and audio are good as well. My only problem with the game is that the design of the 2-turn enemy looks a bit odd and is not completely centered on the space that it occupies.

Great work!

Shekateka by dietzribi 2017-08-03T16:34:59Z

The graphics are well done and with the music builds the dreary dungeon atmosphere. The gameplay is fun, and the concept is novel and well executed. The only problem I have is I feel that the turrets shoot and recover too quickly.

Overall, a fun game that builds on similar games with its new gameplay element (plugging in the laser blaster).

Asteroids by MianaGames 2017-08-01T23:53:48Z

The atari2600-style graphics, catchy music, and engaging gameplay come together to create a truly fun game.

While a vertical scrolling shooter isn't the most original concept out there, this game is entertaining for as long as it needs to be, and is a job well done.

Solar Miner by mrboxbox 2017-08-06T18:17:21Z

The graphics for this game are nice. The controls are good as well, though I felt they were a bit too slippery. The game was really fun, and the ability to unlock the new weapons, battery upgrade, and gold magnet is what really kept me going until the end.

Overall, a nice game that is easy to pick up and will keep engagement until the end. Great job!

The Bellwether Incident by juxipolo 2017-08-06T03:41:48Z

The graphics are appealing, as they are simple, yet crisp and clean. I felt the gameplay had a few problems. The first being the tutorial text speed, as it is too slow. The second problem I have is the tutorial tries to cover a lot of the mechanics at the same time, and it ultimately doesn't cover them effectively enough. I feel it would have been better to introduce each robot one at a time to teach the mechanics.

Overall, the game has good graphics and interesting concepts, but its subpar tutorial and vague mechanics hold it back.

Slinger - Last jump to infinity. by roycocup 2017-08-01T05:34:57Z

I like the mechanics of the game, and the graphics and audio were nice as well.

I think the game could be improved by either having a reset button for the level or by removing the inertia from the projectile so the wait to restart the level after failing an attempt isn't as long.

I'm also not so sure what the difference between the blue and green nodes were, other than color.

I wish the game had more levels, as the concept is one you could implement a lot of mechanics with.

Overall, nice work!

Carbón by dacap 2017-08-02T22:28:18Z

I felt that the controls were a bit slippery, but I got adjusted to them over time. The graphics of the game are pretty good. The gameplay is frantic and the vibration of the boiler above the fire was a nice touch, as it made collecting coal feel more urgent and it was a good indicator of time.

Overall, the game is fun and frantic without being frustrating.

Ministry of Synthesis by impbox 2017-08-03T17:01:55Z

The graphics are good and the audio is great, it just gives off a foreboding atmosphere, which is excellent. The jumping is a little weird, but seeing as it doesn't get in the way of the puzzles, it isn't really much of a problem. I felt that the oscilloscope's UI was too cluttered to intuitively use, and that makes the puzzles more difficult. The greatest problem I have with this game is its difficulty. I feel that some more introductory levels were needed to show the player specifically how each module interacts with waves (the Adder does this, the Multiplier does this, etc.)

Overall, the game has good graphics, great audio, and fun concepts, but it is bogged down by being too unintuitive.

Devil's Curse by herniewise 2017-08-03T03:32:45Z

The game definitely has a great mood that it builds up with its graphics and music, it feels both slightly eerie and arcade-y. The controls are tight and the gameplay is frantic. I liked how you can test out the controls before beginning the first stage.

Overall, a fun game with a great mood.

Battery Life by justinooncx 2017-08-01T22:44:31Z

The idea for the game is cool, but the execution of that idea is frustrating. The backlight makes the game much more playable on my screen, but it drains the batteries quicker, and the batteries take a frustrating amount of time to recharge.

Overall, nice idea and game, but it could use some improvements to make it less frustrating.

Fuse Cell by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-03T05:48:17Z

The graphics are really good, being both detailed and vibrant. Along with the music, the game has a very lighthearted mood to it. The recharging mechanic is very well implemented, as it is a novel concept, must be timed correctly, and the game isn't draconian with it, thus eliminating frustration. The only problem I had with the game was discerning the location of the player's hitbox, as times when I thought I would be hit by the tanks' burst attacks the bullets would pass through the edges of the sprite.

Overall, a very well-crafted game with some very minor collision problems. Great job!

Dim Wit by benbennett 2017-08-06T05:47:05Z

The game is a simple, well-polished test of reaction time and proprioception. All that is present in the game works well. If you were to revise it in the future for a post-jam release, I would recommend making cleaner and crisper graphics than just basic pixel art.

Nice work!

Out of battery by Cam Cam 2017-08-01T22:23:51Z

The graphics serve the game adequately, though I feel they could use a little more polish and animation. The movement is a little too loose for the jumps the game presents, and the checkpoints saving the energy bar as well can easily lock you into a lost run (possibly this could be remedied by a reset button so you could attempt to get the best time before grabbing a fairy or just have the bar refill upon loss and make the fairies farther apart).

Overall, it's a nice game with some moderate problems.

Power Rancher by SeanW 2017-08-01T04:38:50Z

Graphics: The game has a bright and cartoony feel to it, and sports animations that are both bright and bouncy.

Audio: The single track this game sports is pleasing to the ears, and it is fitting to a relaxing farming simulator.

Humor: Each item's description boasts a tame lighthearted humor, which is fitting to the graphics.

Mood: The graphics, audio, and humor work well together.

Theme / Innovation: The game utilizes the theme well, albeit not in the most original (nor the most well executed) way.

Fun: The game doesn't seem to have been playtested. The exponential growth of the daily energy requirement makes the game impossible. The exchange rate for energy to money is way too low, as is the money that the city gives you at the end of each day. Due to these factors, the player cannot reliably make their initial $500 back. Ultimately, the game has a very limited fun factor due to being both slow and impossible.

Overall: While the game may boast good graphics and audio, its fun factor does not match.

TRIAL OF THE 3 SUNS by Godot35 2017-08-05T05:47:26Z

@chaoseed If you have a controller connected, its controls will override the keyboard controls. Thus if a controller is connected you must press L-Trigger instead of Space. The 'A' on the title screen refers to the 'A' face button on a 360 controller. Check to see if you have a controller connected, that may be your problem.

Lithium by bveeramani 2017-08-06T03:56:38Z

The graphics are excellent. The minimalist graphics are simple and clean, and the backgrounds, font choice, and UI are excellent as well. The gameplay is simple, yet it is fun as it manages to engage without relying on overly complex mechanics. One of the only problems I have with the game is that the isometric perspective can be obstructing, but the rotating camera helps resolve this (though it may help to increase its speed of rotation). Also I feel that the pixel art title screen does not fit with the rest of the game.

Overall, a puzzle game with an engaging simplicity and excellent graphics.
