The graphics are on point for a pixel art game. The visuals are really appealing actually. I like the game mechanics, and the concept behind it. Good one 👍

This was awesome, really fleshed out especially considering the time constraint! I really liked the music for it, and the atmosphere was great. My ONLY gripe would be that it was Enter to advance text as opposed to like space or something, and since you had to use a mouse to interact with stuff, you're pretty much always having to move your hand. Not a BIG deal but if the button had been space or something, it would have been in reach of the left hand always.

Great job!

Great graphics! I love the design, I would love to play this game once you flesh it out more!

defratino 2017-07-31 23:57

Great intro, I loved the music and art, though the game is a little bit grindy.

ciobeni 2017-08-01 00:20

Wow! Loved the art style. A little bit more balancing and it would be perfect in my opinion.

alpenter 2017-08-01 00:37

I am pretty amazed with how much you got done. Inventory systems, text systems, the amount of cartridges, etc. Very impressive. I do have to say, it WAS a tad bit annoying to click something to search it. And then to move my hand back and forth between enter and my house to keep searching for things.

The music was great in the intro and the art was simple, clean and pretty noice.

Nice little pixel RPG. I really like the music and SFX. Controls are a bit wired. I think it would be much more comfortable to use mouse click to advance dialogs. Although it is does not have a lot of plot yet, it has all the basic elements to make an RPG. Good job!

pixelgriffin 2017-08-01 04:23

Great job! I really liked the combat system, it was much more in-depth than I was originally expecting!

I think maybe the tutorial section was a little wonky, and there was the text typing bug but otherwise great!

5/5

Well done! I feel strong feelings against that guy in the purple shirt.

hecticgrape 2017-08-01 06:05

great game, loved the art style. controls were a bit wonky (hated having to move between keyboard and mouse). great foundation for an rpg, surprised you got this much done

simon-rahnasto 2017-08-01 23:19

This game feels so great and polished, like a complete package. It is absolutely insane how you managed to cram in so much features in a compo. Hands down the best audio I have heard in a compo game, SFX are on point and great music combined with gorgeous and coherent graphics and so much gameplay make this an amazing entry. I love the quirky humor as well, a lot of though was put into making this.

Very extensive little RPG game especially for a compo! I love the graphics and sound, all very well done. This is extremely impressive, very well done!

robber 2017-08-02 11:28

Really extensive RPG for 48hours, really impressive. The intro was really funny, but i think it was a bit overwhelming, all the information you get straight up at the start, maybe this could be presented as you need it and the game progresses. I enjoyed this..great entrie..

easy82 2017-08-05 22:12

Impressive entry for 48 hours! Nice little story, graphics, audio but it's mood is what I liked the best. Please make it playable with WASD + mouse only! (No need for separate keys.) Well done, keep it up! :)

jackass 2017-08-06 16:42

First of all, very pretty graphics! The gameplay was decent and overall nice.

I felt the intro dialogue was a bit too long, and not very interesting.

Keep up the great work!

siegfriedcroes 2017-08-06 16:51

I liked the graphics and audio. I found it to be a lot of text at the beginning and also a bit repetitive at first with all the doors you have to open. The controls weren't the best, mainly using enter to skip dialog. Apart from that it was a nice game, well done :)

karai17 2017-08-07 00:37

Nice game, the graphics were very fitting. The controls were kind of difficult for me to use as someone who plays left handed, so perhaps considering left handed controls in the future would be nice :) Also I noticed some areas where you weren't clamping numbers so the enemy died with -3 hp or my hp bar went negative~ you can use math.max(0, number) to clamp your value to 0 :D

xand 2017-08-07 05:05

@karai17 Yeah, I did skimp out on the clamping. I have functions in the game to do it, I just... didn't. xD

rngsilvercraft 2017-08-07 16:12

Wow.This is amazing. It's hard to believe that you managed to made a game full of potential in such a short time.Great job!

shru 2017-08-08 02:25

First of all, I was very impressed by how many features this game had for a compo entry. The music and sounds were very pleasant and unquestionably stand out amongst other Ludum Dare games I've played. The cartridge system was intriguing, but ultimately I didn't end up playing long enough to see the full extent of it's utilization -- more on that in a bit.

Some critiques:

Like basically everyone else said, the controls felt optimized for three hands, and my third was in the wash. I think space or left click to advance text would have made this a lot more enjoyable to play.

I died at the 4th enemy, the first one wearing the black shirt. I did notice that he was wearing different clothing from the first 3, but I was not expecting such a large spike in difficulty without warning and ultimately didn't bother to switch to a fresh battery charge. After losing here, I didn't really feel like spending another 3-4 minutes playing through the intro and getting to the same point again. I think you would have done well to better telegraph that the player should prepare for that fight, or prioritized a feature for the player to continue their game in some manner after dying.

bloodjohn 2017-08-12 13:20

Great adventure, lots of text, lots of doors. Not very suitable for my expectations of a quick and fun game.

A huge world in the game - beautiful

battlecoder 2017-08-19 04:42

Impressive! LOVED the music and atmosphere. I also love your particular style for graphics. Gorgeous world. This is an amazingly big entry with a lot of content, quite outstanding, especially considering it's a compo entry. I have no idea how you did it!

Was not really a fan of pressing ENTER to advance the text, as I had to constantly move my right hand between the mouse and the keyboard. Space or click would have been better options, I think.

I was unable to finish the game because I apparently suck at it, but it was extremely entertaining. I think I'll try it again, but with what I've seen so far it's enough to give you the best scores I've given so far to a compo entry.

Congrats!

brickkid512 2017-08-22 04:17

This is amazing. It would be cool if you were able to implement some fighting animations to make it even better. Great Job

furiouswitch 2017-08-22 11:10

I loved this game so much! Really great job.

I don't see any cons except for the white screen at the beginning made me think the game is broken or my pc can't show the graphics. Also, it would be better if I didn't need to use the mouse. Other than that everything was very nice and the graphics were so beautiful and the fight scenes well-done.

Congratulations :)

P.S If you would like to check my game that would be great. Thanks in advance :)

Neat story! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXq5UkQ9iWI
