ADOPTED!

There I was about to give up on video games when my AI alerted me that a new Nuclear Arms game had been released. I proceeded immediately to the download link provided. Cannot be scanned for viruses and may be unsafe? Obviously!

This time there was no destructible terrain, but instead I was able to cause THE most majorly ridiculous traffic cluterfuck ever seen, I mean I was jumping over piles of buses to deliver kids to their loving if somewhat standoffish families.

At one point Shadow G tried to trick me by crashing the game and popping up a dialog to fool me into sending information about Craig Killbane to what was obviously a front of theirs, a false company called "DefaultCompany" here is the evidence: https://imgur.com/a/NJVhY Obviously I didn't fall for it, but maybe this is how they got [STORY SPOILER REDACTED]?

This didn't dissuade me from victory though, and while I will admit I surfed the silver a few times in this game, I kept at it until victory was mine.

Just like in Fallout (obv I mean "of the Mountain King" not that other game) I love the crazy over-the-top story, combined with action elements. It felt good to dash around, I loved the preview of the baby toss which let me feel like a baller by hurling kids all across town square into the doors, and dash-smashing huge busses out of the way like COME ON I GOTTA DO IT BEFORE THE MONSTER FINISHES!! By the end I was feeling like a champ by running past a set of doors and making throws on the move - so satisfying.

You guys always get some difficulty that's on point for the fun action, and wrap it in a great story package. Well done yet again.

(ps I don't wanna spoil the story but can you imagine when that generation grows up?)

Haha thanks @pkenny. We always love to see a fan, and it seems like you know where we wanna take this in the future. Sorry about the crash. We surprisingly never had that happen, but we appreciate that you still managed to finish the game regardless :D

Fun

Excellent game! I especially appreciated the high talent voice acting you guys used. Too bad I couldn't save them all.

Super fun game. The movement was maybe a tad fast, but the game felt responsive and the difficulty was well balanced. The intro and setting of the game was very funny. It would have been nice to have a minimap or radar showing the open doors as towards the end they were very difficult to find due to all the vehicles being in the way.

illabom 2017-12-06 02:33

wow this looks very good! i like the models and the gameplay as whole

Check out my game if you would like! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/virus-detected

Damn the story is hilarious :D - a truck full of orphans crashes - screw that, I am going to destroy every single car that comes close to me to save the orphans and give them a new home :D

I liked it a lot :D

sg-alin 2017-12-06 17:27

I liked the theme of this game, it was really unique, and i didn't saw that anywhere else, good job, really.

duzzondrums 2017-12-07 11:12

Aww yess! Only the 2nd nuclear arms game I've played, but I'm a fan already. I was shovin' babies in that fountain until i could deliver them and then they all started climbing over each other and getting out, and cars were going everywhere and the giant baby tower was floopin around... genius.

logicon211 2017-12-08 02:32

Thanks @duzzondrums! Means a lot coming from one of the Crawl developers. I love that game.

kingmatthew 2017-12-08 03:29

This is amazing! Really good graphics for only 72 hours. The orphans are really creepy. They are like worms on your back. Voice acting = 10/10

scowling-pastry 2017-12-08 03:46

Great game and hi larious story. I love it. I clipped through one of the doors at one point but nothing game breaking. Absolutely amazing. I loved the art and the audio "ADOPTED", lol

andrew-brotherton 2017-12-08 03:49

10/10 the funniest game I've played so far. Keep up the good work!

sparewizard 2017-12-08 03:54

I ended up winning the game because the overflowing orphans flew into the rest of the buildings by chance.

sorlok 2017-12-11 02:21

lol, 5 on humor. I really want to know how this idea occurred to you. Either way, it played out well. The cars in that city are crazy, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that everyone got "Adopted". Also, awesome intro.

reax 2017-12-12 01:10

I thought the orphans were worms trying to eat you up. :joy: It was a humorous game, made me laugh a few times, especially when finishing. I managed to dash my self outside the map, which was pretty cool (even though it's not supposed to happen).

I liked the movement, and that you can see where you're throwing the baby.

gomango999 2017-12-12 02:06

This was a fun game. My only objection was that the hit box of the doors was a little bit hard to reliably throw into, and the sound of crashing trucks got pretty loud and obnoxious after a while.

lex 2017-12-12 10:55

If anything you could improve controls and gameplay. Everything is great but you still have a lot of room to work those out.

cayleblucas 2017-12-12 12:11

Really nice game, Love the visual style :)

ballin 2017-12-12 12:17

Amazing voice acting and fun story. *thumbs up*

piscythe 2017-12-14 01:43

Can I revoke the driving licenses of everyone in this city? I know you put in light effects to get around this, but I was still annoyed that the doors kept getting blocked by cars and I couldn't tell which doors were open and augh! I failed once with one door left and at least twice with two doors left just because I could not remember which door I missed, let alone find it in the mess that the level became. On the bright side, this is some of the strongest 3d modeling and voice acting I've seen in LD. Good work!

frozenfractal 2017-12-14 17:14

This game is completely insane, and I'm loving every bit of it! There's just so much to love: a weird and crazy intro, smooth controls, polished but readable graphics, wacky physics, and a catchy soundtrack to round it all off. Fantastic!

bificommander 2017-12-15 13:02

A hilarious game. The idea of a running story line with Ludim Dare games is cool too. On note: I once ended the level with 2 doors to go, got the orphan-flood cinematic, but then got the victory instead of the defeat ending. Don't worry, I finished honestly on my next game.

pvtroswold 2017-12-16 20:07

Hoo boy, this one has personality. I'm usually not one for orphan humor, but I have to say good job on the story and opening cutscene! I liked the 3D models, especially the main character and the mustache-d orphans/babies. Quoting a previous commenter, I too would like to confiscate each the entire city's citizens' license to drive!

mowztouch 2017-12-18 00:56

This game is perfect x) Intro scene, perfect car AI, realistic orphans movement, everything is good! I'm gonna try the others 4 Nuclear Arms! Really good one, Well done :)

dioinecail 2017-12-23 10:59

Meanwhile "ADOPTED" becomes a new meme on the LD :D

2018-01-12 14:08

Funny story! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4a6KN4k75w
