@noytroo AHAH ! Thanks ! It's fixed now !
Nicely made game. A few things. First of all, the enemy planes all weave back and forth constantly which isn't very realistic and it makes it really hard to shoot them down. Just the fighters though, not the bombers. Secondly, Trend Micro flagged it and deleted it as a threat, although it seems like that is a well known issue with something related to the core file. (flags the threat as HEU_AEGISCS219 - google that for more info). The keyboard controls are all but useless, so pretty much requires a controller. Graphics are basic but well done. Flight controls are a bit wonky but not too terrible. Not sure what it has to do with the theme, however. All in all, a good effort. Thank you for the game.
Very cool, those planes all look sharp! I struggled some with the controls (even on a 360 controller), but I've never been much of a pilot in videogames anyways. Well done getting so much into the game with so little time, and thanks for participating!
Lovely presentation. Nicely done.
Possibly the nicest UI I've seen in a LD game, I love how the dials break after you get hit! The general style of the game is really nice too. My only complaints are with the enemy movement, as has been said before, the weaving makes it very difficult and doesn't really feel like dogfighting, more like target practice. Also I found it very hard to distinguish friend from foe, and often ended up causing much accidental friendly fire
The controls on a keyboard are tough, but the game has amazing graphics and music. With a little tuning (or an Xbox controller on my part) this could be one of the best games here.
Saw this and instantly thought WarThunder! I had questions about what this had to do with power right from the start. Trying to fly with WASD was a bad idea, I spent my first 5 minutes just trying to figure out the odd keys that were bound so I could get into playing. Once I learned arrows worked I started to enjoy myself. I got into a furball and noticed I was the only plane flying like a normal plane. The enemy seemed to resemble some type of fish with their wiggling. And then it happened, The audience began to applaud!?! I don't think a game of this type really needs music. But it wasn't bad, up until I heard the clapping that is. All immersion was broken at that point. It's not a bad game beyond these nitpicks. Controls well. Looks and sounds good. But the theme didn't really fit for me. A plane running out of fuel is perfectly normal. Clever interpretation for sure. But fuel isn't necessarily power. All that aside, great job as a solo game!
This game was incredible! I really liked the graphics, especially the effect when shooting your guns.
@gengi Hi, thanks for the feedback ! I found out too late that there was clapping at the end of the music, sorry about that :/
For the theme fuel is what power the plane, and people are what power the war; I don't know if you noticed but the allied planes also run out of fuel and start quitting the battlefield, so you are losing "man-power" :)
I loved the game, but even with a controller the controls are a little confusing. Do you have any plans to update this Post-LD to add mouse controls? That would make it a lot easier for people that don't have Xbox controllers.
Having seen the film in cinema, but not the real battle, and knowing a thing or two about aerial combat I have to, regrettably, inform you that your simulation doesn't quite hit the mark, old boy.
The controls are impossible on PC and tough even with a pad as there doesn't seem to be any way to invert the vertical movement axis, which my brain seems to require.
The AI planes exhibit erratic movement patterns, much unlike the smooth playable plane and such make for needlessly hard targets. The axis/ally indicator seems to be broken too. It showed 0 allies, but there were a bunch of them around.
Lastly I wasn't even close to running out of fuel when exiting the battle. That too was missing from the authentic **DUNKIRK**:tm: experience.
Valiant effort nonetheless. Top marks on visuals and atmosphere.
@cobaltrisen I haven't thought about continuing this game beyond the ludum dare event so I don't think I'm going to add mouse controls sorry; I'm not very experienced in mouse controlled plane games so I don't think it would be good enough :/
@huvaakoodia You can exit the battle whenever you want ! Or you can fight and protect until you crash in the water. For the controls, I'm sorry, I didn't have enough time to add options like inverting axis or making the enemies planes fly very accuratly (I rather had working but not very realistic enemies than broken enemies falling in the water all the time :) ). This is obvioulsy not a simulation x) but thanks anyway for the feedback !
Very nice execution, good graphics and UI fitting the theme. It would be nice to change default keyboard key bindings, I assume you prepared the game for AZERTY keyboard, which makes controlls on QWERTY keyboard kinda strange to say the least xD
Wow what a great entry! Gathering allies and blasting down the enemies was super fun. It was a bit hard to know what was going on around you though. A way to look around would have been nice.
Nice game! Love the graphics, everything fits the theme really well :) Plane has good controls. Maybe it could benefit from having some kind of speedboost to get to the point of interests more quickly. Really nice game for being made in that time limit! Keep on the good work!
Very pretty visually. Would be nice if the player started a bit closer to the action though, flying there for five mintues was a bit boring. Also the W key isn't working so i had to use the arrows which was not game breaking but still not so good. But overall pretty good job and with some polishing this would be a great small game.
Having watched the film, I liked how this game emulated the experience. I had no issues with the controls on a gamepad. I felt gameplay was slightly lacking, and I had difficulty finding and targeting Axis planes to shoot, but the experience of flying in a plane over the sea reliving the Dunkirk experience more than made up for it.
Wow, this is super impressive! The art is amazing, really beautifully done. The lighting an effects give a slightly arcadey feel which really suits it, but it's still really detailed and fits the subject matter. I had some issues with the controls too, although I think it's more the camera than controls, I'm used to camera folliwng the roll, and not having that meant you had to orient the plane to your controler in your head and I found that quite difficult. But then I know how much time good cameras can take, they're freakin hard! So yeah, super impressed!
I didn't expect this kind of game in this jam! Not easy to do an aviation game, so congratulations. The enemies movement wasn't as neat as i expected, so it was hard to aim them, but nice game you did. Good luck!
The game is beautifully presented, including the plane models and UI. The game was easy to control with an Xbox gamepad.
The enemy fighters are hard to shoot down, due to their strange, wiggling flying patterns. A crosshairs may have helped. The music fits well. I haven't seen the film, so don't know how it compares. Clearer objectives would have been better, I didn't know whether I just had to shoot the enemy bombers or destroy all the fighters as well. Being able to look around with the camera would have been nice, but I understand that camera controls can take a while to make well.
Overall, a great game.
Impresive game for three days! Played it with an xbox controller. It felt pretty good. A crosshair would have been nice but got a couple of cool kills :) Graphics and Audio are amazing. Greate game!
Love this game. Controls are very hard sometimes (I´ve played it with keyboard and pad and I prefer the pad) but in general is a great project. Congrats!!
