In the beginning I have to wait around 3 cycles of "Click anywhere to start..." before the game actually starts. It feels like the game is not fully loaded until then. Is this a wanted behavior? Maybe my computer is just having some issues. The teaser figure looks awesome though!

crychair 2023-01-09 20:33

Things are Def a bit iffy on the LD Site. The Itch one is a little more stable :)

** EDIT Just pushed a fix! **

geek5510 2023-01-09 21:16

Wow! amazingly polished, really well done

maxflav 2023-01-09 22:41

The voice acting is incredible. "In the year twenty-eighty-twelve...teen" 🤣. This whole game is dripping with style. I'm really bad at it, though! My high score is 121892.

stormcat 2023-01-10 05:49

Really fun game! I was pretty terrible at it (I never got above an F lol), but it was very good. The voice acting was definitely incredible, and the gameplay felt very polished, but I couldn't figure out what the crouching did and some of the sound effects peaked my headphones. But overall a really cool game!

plexsoup 2023-01-10 06:00

Impressive game! That artwork! Fantastic.

radetzky 2023-01-10 08:03

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Crouching just makes you move slower, that's it. Perhaps it should have been named something more descriptive like "walk slowly" instead to avoid confusion.

bo-dangles 2023-01-10 12:52

I really like the UI choices with your game. Music and voice over added a lot as well. Really clean looking interface. I also like how the attack gives you invincibility allowing the player to get in close for a hit.

100th-coin 2023-01-10 16:00

The writing and humor are top notch, and the voice acting really makes it shine! I think the player's hitbox is a bit vague? I assume it's wherever the player's shadow is, but I wasn't willing to experiment with it.

The difficulty ramps up at a perfect pace for a game jam game! Making the attack melee is certainly a change of pace from other bullet hells I've played, and I feel like it's a bit of a sloppy implementation. If the enemies are to your left it's incredibly annoying, and in some cases near impossible to 'harvest' them without taking damage.

On a lighter note, the visuals are outstanding. I love the flashy "Difficulty up!" text. There's a lot of subtle details with the visuals that make this stand out. And the title screen, oh my!

I was unable to reach the final boss after 4 tries. I'm not great at bullet hells, so that's to be expected, I guess. I feel like every attempt I got close, but there's just way too much projectiles to dodge when I can only attack with a melee attack. Very cool game though!

crychair 2023-01-10 17:20

-- @100th-coin "If the enemies are to your left it’s incredibly annoying, and in some cases near impossible to ‘harvest’ them without taking damage." The "wind up" on your hit actually has a hit box. So you can hit behind you :)

And the hitbox is a little smaller than your heart on the player sprite. (The tip at the controls screen does mention it :P)

joey-shipley 2023-01-10 17:52

Really good submission! Art, music, voice overs are awesome. Really liked the R-Type style game set on the ground, nice change up. :)

I struggled a bit with the attack controls, it felt a little unresponsive. I wasn't able to get it down well enough to attack and take out something without also taking a bunch of damage. Would require some getting used to.

grizeldi 2023-01-10 20:20

Loving the art and the voice acting. But as others have already said, the hitboxes for attacks are a bit wonky.

fluburbio 2023-01-10 20:29

Gorgeous game! That level of polish is impressive, I enjoyed to bullet type gameplay. Kudos for the cover art too, it's professional!

ianlux 2023-01-10 21:02

Super solid game, one of the few that I've replayed! Couldn't get past the D tier though :p

syudzius 2023-01-10 21:09

Cool entry! And the itch.io page looks epic, especially the cover art. Very dynamic game, I couldn't get a grade above F, but it was fun to play! Voice acting was great too. Also I'm curious because I didn't get far in the game: is there any way to restore your health while you run? That would be nice. Keep up the good work!

zungryware 2023-01-10 21:40

I made about eight attempts, but I was never able to get past wave 9. I think a way to restore health would have made the game a bit more enjoyable, since it feels really bad to lose health knowing you can never get it back. Doesn't necessarily needed to be handed out like candy, just some way to restore health that appears every so often.

I found that the crouch ability was incredibly strong despite the speed reduction. I ended up holding down Shift most of the time and treating release-Shift as a run button. It helped avoid the issue of the somewhat ambiguous hitbox of the player sprite.

That ground texture is really visually noisy for being a background image. It's not as bad in the game when it's scrolling past, but those still screenshots make my head hurt.

I like how the music got more intense as the game went on. And how the plants' attacks would sync up with it to create a backing beat. Nice touch!

The voice acting was pretty good. It managed to avoid the "I recorded this in my bedroom using a cheap headset mic"-syndrome with some good audio editing.

Pretty unique to have the main player attack be a melee attack. It made landing killing blows really satisfying with the swing animation. I do wish the indicator for when you have i-frames was more distinct. Between the noisy background, bright projectiles, and everything moving really fast, I found it hard to pick that out.

Overall, I enjoyed. There's a lot of little touches that make the game shine.

keenao 2023-01-11 01:52

I liked the whole mood of the game. The music, the colors, the voicelines... Really get me into the game. Nice work. Impressive amount of polish/packaging.

bthedestroyer 2023-01-11 01:58

Super fun, I just wish there were checkpoints every few waves .

I loved the voice lines, but wanted some SFX variation. You used FMOD (wise choice), so take advantage of what features that gives you!

Pretty cool idea to have a bullet hell with only melee attacks for the player - I don't think I've seen that before. I just wish I could either attack a bit more frequently or at least have an idea of *where* I'd end up dashing to when I attack so my infrequent attacks wouldn't get wasted as often.

elgin-ciani 2023-01-11 02:16

I think it goes without saying that the art is fantastic, and I liked the audio as well! I would've liked to see more done with FMOD since I saw that was used, but can understand if development constraints didn't allow for that.

I did find a bug where if you take damage whilst at the left most side of the screen, you'll get stuck on the x-axis and can't move back to the right anymore.

Some suggestions I have: * Make it more clear that the attack isn't limited to the right of the sprite * A small, unobtrusive sound effect to provide feedback when my attack becomes available * A quick restart button in the pause menu

That last one's for people like me who take damage at the beginning and find my performance unacceptable for the current run. Alas, I am too bad at bullet hells to beat the game at this time of writing, but I gave it quite a few tries because I enjoyed it that much and wanted to see the end

I'll keep this one around to try again some day

crychair 2023-01-11 02:22

@elgin-ciani Thanks so much for the feedback. Very constructive. The goal was def to make the attack more clear. (Thats coming in the future for now) The other two we didn't think of in time but will add as well! Thanks

@bthedestroyer Thanks for playing. Unsure what you mean by dashing. The attack only speeds up your player slightly so you should be able to control where you want to go :)

fullheartgames 2023-01-11 04:00

Amazing art!

ghpxi 2023-01-11 07:01

wow, amazing, love this bullet hell runner. the sound is awesome!

glaikunt 2023-01-11 09:41

Love this take on a bullet hell game! Everything feels really well done, and all fits together well! I think the enemies should be a little easier at the beginning (at least it terms of the direction they're shooting in) but overall really enjoyed my playing it.

toosalty0000 2023-01-11 09:45

A great game! It should've been quite challenging to work in such a big team for a short amount of time, but it definitely got a good result. I never saw a game jam with a game that has voice-overs. Nice.

The UI and the background were very clean. If the music was a bit more calm, that will be nice. Good job.

joel-davis 2023-01-11 20:00

amazing level of production. Graphics, music and sound were fantastic. Also was seriously funny. The gameplay felt solid but could have been a little more responsive feeling. The backgrounds looked nice but were a little bit nondescript and random compared to the high level of polish on everything else. Overall amazing work.

minakorii 2023-01-11 22:00

Wow really nice and polish game ! I had fun playing the game

arron-fowler 2023-01-11 22:19

Really interesting mix of styles. It was fun and had enough of a challenge as you jumped up the levels of intensity. I would have liked the movement to have a bit more juice, but that was only because there was so much good juice elsewhere. I loved the voice stuff too. Impressive work. Kudos

duzzondrums 2023-01-12 01:07

Nice work :) I'm also really bad at it, though it's great you show the hitbox, and a clever way of showing it too. There's loads of polish in the gui and stuff, love the health meter :) I'll have to try again to see if I can get further ha ha. image_2023-01-12_120740017.png

rosypenguin 2023-01-13 05:25

The sheer amount of polish here is incredible! I gasped when I heard the voice acting... seriously how many LD games put in fully voice acted lines?! Love the cover image, love the UI, love the soundtrack, and love the bullet hell gameplay. Seriously incredible work. Here's my score on my first run! bunnyhell.png

dagostino-audio 2023-01-13 06:22

@rosypenguin Thanks for the super kind words! We have an amazing audio team who love a good dialogue system! It is something we strive to put into any of our releases together! Thanks so much for playing and enjoying the game!

lookleftstudio 2023-01-14 21:10

The audio was great! The voice lines were fun, and definitely added to the experience. I thought the crouching mechanic was interesting, and just trying to keep your heart from hitting the bullets while weaving in towards the mobs was quite difficult, but that is expected during a bullet hell! The variations in the enemies also kept each encounter unique, and you really had to adapt to each mob. Overall it was a great jam game!

stellar-lily 2023-01-15 12:19

ld1.png

Now that is a game, it's very nice :sparkles: didn't expect the voice acted lines or controller support (which it very much benefits from)

One minor gripe is how slow the attack reloading is, and it's not very clear that attacking also gives you a slight dash.

Other than that, it's pretty fun and I can see myself playing it for longer periods of time :sparkles:

adam-gould 2023-01-16 08:40

Wow! A melee bullet hell isn't something I thought I'd ever see, and this was a really polished one at that. The audio alone was sublime, and the visuals were fantastic too. I played using a gamepad, and I think that the controls aren't necessarily the greatest for it - a slight move on the analog stick didn't translate to slower movement.

kirsten-lee 2023-01-16 11:00

This felt really polished!! Great entry!!

arowx 2023-01-16 13:11

Great work, nice sci-fi font choice, good graphics and great audio.

I didn't last long but maybe some obstacles early on that could shield the player from bullets.

Or being a rabbit maybe rabbit holes to help the player outwit the killer carrots?

itzemii 2023-01-17 17:02

Such a stylish, special slash'em'up in bullet hell style! I like the graphics very much (color palette, the sprites, ...). Music fits very well! Great you allow to use controller!!! Feel fluid. "Crouching" short-cut is nice way to keep it in (probably you did not have enough time). Even I did not really know when to practically use. I love the voice over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "You have to beat the corn! It's huge and delicious!" Yeah!

lenan 2023-01-18 21:29

Very nice game, felt it lacked some sounds (I played the web version so it might be a bug on the web version only), but overall a nice and polished game

kr0k 2023-01-19 18:00

Great job team! The voice over are so good and unexpected surprise for a jam game! Overall it looks more like a indie title than a jam submission :D Amazing work! The background (/floor) graphics are quite noisy and it makes readability not optimal. But art by itself and animations looks super neat!

sheree 2023-01-20 10:12

The art and audio for this game where AWESOME! Definitely a fun game to play and very neat. The in game voice over was a fun addition. I could have used a way to gain health because I wasn't very good at the game, I also liked the "shameful" rating I kept getting end game score display. Other than that, its definitely a pretty addictive and well rounded game to play.

thejonu 2023-01-21 14:13

The music and voice acting is lovely. Apart from that, I think it would make more sense as a bullet hell if the speed of the projectiles was independent of the shooter's speed. This made it feel like total chaos most of the time. Also the player's movement speed felt weird and unpredictable sometimes, not sure why.

simeon-radivoev 2023-01-22 11:49

The hitboxes are not very clear, what will hurt you and goes past you is hard to tell, in a bullet hell game.

crychair 2023-01-23 04:07

@simeon-radivoev Just the heart is your hit box :)
