This is definitely the best game I played today yet. I don't have too many words but everyone saw here I highly recommend you to give Everust a try! This game is just awesome !

Very strong mood! Weakest part was the audio IMO. Great job!!

alejandrodlsp 2017-08-01 16:33

This is awesome!

Really pretty game, talked to the developer in a twitch stream. Chill dude and the game turned out great, really love the PSX-esque feel of it! Only high remarks here!

Love the aesthetic, especially the water movement.

oxysoft 2017-08-01 18:27

The pixel art textures and the meshes are quite nice, I've always loved 3D with pixel art textures. The mood is quite nice and it has a really bleak desolate feel to it. Not much direction unfortunately to point you in the right direction, and it's difficult to orient yourself because everything looks pretty much the same.

Lovely little game! Love the mood of the whole thing, feels wonderful to play and look around. Definitely worth a go !

gwinnell 2017-08-01 19:09

The style is nice but the game has a few signalling/feedback issues.

I did not notice the radar on screen on the first few tries, I also was not sure when I had picked up a power-cube, and I was doubting my own key presses when using the jetpack. Some simple bits of audio would have gone a long way here.

The walking around on the first platform feels good, but afterwards I feel like the gravity / fall velocity was much too strong, and/or that the jetpack wasn't as immediate as it should have been. That could have been related to the signalling, though.

That said, something about it kept me going, and I stuck it out and got to safety.

I really liked the aesthetics and atmosphere. Great job!

I really love the style & mood!

amazing fun to play and explore, really nice learning curve, I was very frustrated in the beginning and was cursing your name but by the fifth or sixth time starting out I was navigating and enjoying the little attention to detail in the way the movement works I agree that the art and atmosphere is perfect, only thing that would cinch the deal would be intro screens with nice art and an ending screen which shows us perhaps what our safety is something a bit more than 'you have found safety' the radar is nice but would be nice to have some indication of powercubes, maybe a secret if you collect all powercubes? I'd definitely mirror some of @gwinnell 's thoughts on sound design, a little boop or bleep or white noise could have added so much to the feeling of using a jetpack, is it possible to escape the water? I love the game and would be excited to see a second level haha . I know from your twitter feed it was originally planned to be proc gen but i feel like with the viewfog and repetitiveness of the architecture this actually might not have added anything as I had trouble remembering where anything might be anyway.

Amazing work as always.

your friend...

Oh man I love the style so much. Dripping with atmosphere, awesome job!

I'm so glad I was able to finally find the project page for this game! I saw development snapshots of it during the jam but I wasn't haven't having any luck finding the page after the event ended.

The visuals really turned out great on this project. It was even more impressive trying them out in real time myself. I've got to completely agree with everyones comments about atmosphere on this one.

On a side note the controls did feel a bit sticky. Some times space press then hold was needed to fly. Some times just the hold. It made it a bit frustrating after falling into the dooming water several times due to the inconsistencies.

Still a fantastic entry! I can't wait to see what you cook up next.

Wow! Cool shader and world generation. Climbing stuff and really getting to just mess around and explore was fun! Spotting cubes was really hard, and seemed to be lucky before anything else, especially since the render distance is so short. The platforming felt pretty nice though; the game is hard, but it felt like I could really take a lot of risks and do cool junk that paid off, like blind jumps and perilous climbs. Just the way the levels were put together with the angling and stuff made all that work well dynamically.

nuebomundo 2017-08-04 08:31

I love the environment! Procedural generation, I guess? Is so irregular and different... really gives the whole thing a distinctive appealing.

About the game play, at first I was a little confuse because I didn't know there was a jetpack available, so I kept falling in the water, just waiting for my death lol. Upon finally learning all the controls, the search for safety was really cool. The one-line radar UI is a smart touch!

I really liked the overall atmosphere, it gives me Silent Hill vibes! The audio is a little lacking, but the music really adds to the overall mood. Great work on the audio and visuals! The procedural generations really creates a great looking environment! The world really does look like it's falling apart. The limited draw distance, while probably done for performance reasons, does add to the PlayStation era graphic feel, and the overall theme of a dying world.

The simple radar looks great, but I did wish it detected the power cubes, since it's sometimes impossible to find more from how little the draw distance is. The lack of a pickup sound or jet-pack sound was also odd, but forgivable.

The jet-pack controls seem to be broken. If I hold down space, half the time I just fall to my doom. I ended up having to spam the space bar to get the jet-pack to actually engage. I thought this might be the intended way, but holding down the space-bar worked randomly start working.

The 10-15 second wait between plays wouldn't be so bad if it was hidden behind a load screen. What really aggravated me was when after the pause, instead of generating the level, the game would actually reload the scene, which caused the game to pause again upon walking back to where I was. This happened 3-5 times once.

Those last two issues caused me to almost quit playing altogether! I did manage to finish it, once the game stopped recursively loading on itself, and I discovered spamming jump to overcome the jet-pack bug.

The game has good potential, but the bugs really chip away at it, but great job on creating a really rich world! With a bit of extra polish and bug fixes (which is hard to do in 72 hours, I know my game could have used a bit of both!) I could see it becoming a great game!

andreu 2017-08-04 13:46

Amazing! I seriously love the mood and the graphics! Only think I would change a bit is the jump controls, they are somehow really punishing but for the rest this is a great piece! congrats!

pedro-miranda 2017-08-04 13:50

Really ince game, I like the "lonely vibe" it gives me. The graphics are great as well. Only thing is sometimes I got stuck when hitting my head on objects. Great game!

rijnswand 2017-08-05 14:11

I love the visual style. Some more audio feedback when picking batteries/losing power would help.

sarrixx 2017-08-06 05:46

This was a really nice game to play. Loved the setting and the graphic style. The audio was good too but it could have been even more immersive if there were a few sound effects. Overall, excellent job!

sarrixx 2017-08-07 18:57

I am doing a bit of a let's play YouTube series of my favourite LD 39 games and Everust was one of the games I played in the most recent video. If you want to check it out here's the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zt7Dzd6I3f8&feature=youtu.be

supr 2017-08-08 08:46

I would like to make it easier :persevere:. But anyway the world is interesting, looks and sounds pretty good.

zyow 2017-08-09 12:52

Great game! I love the graphics and atmosphere. Good job!

Maybe batteries should be easier to find.

2017-08-09 13:53

Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUVd1KNAvFY

david-allen 2017-08-10 01:06

Super super cool game. I absolutely love the aesthetic and sound design. The world feels vast and abstract. This might be my favorite of the jam so far.
