LD36 — Ancient Technology

No Mario's Sky by eigenbom 2016-09-10T20:57:00

Its always a good sign when hear about an LD game from kotaku before discovering it, and this game did not disappoint. I love that you didn't restrict the use of the spaceship, so if I don't feel like trying my luck over a gap I can just hop into my ship and fly over it. This is a great game and I do not know how you did this in such a short time, but I'm gonna play this for more than 3 days.

Spectacular Stride Machine by Garfeild 2016-09-06T20:01:00

Really like the style of this game ! The drawn background and characters look really good!

Pyramid Dissemble by luquio 2016-09-07T09:36:00

Nice game! The music and a the visuals give a nice meditative mood to the game. But I couldn't open the pyramid even thou I tried a lot of combinations. Maybe I messed up, Its hard to tell which colors have you picked up, because the crystals spawns and despawns too fast and sometimes on top of each other.

Way of the Gear [Unfinished] by HacksawUnit 2016-09-06T20:09:00

It looks nice and I like this controllable gear idea, but the platforming does not feel right, I get stuck into walls and sometimes the jump just does not register.

SpaceCaveman by MatLab 2016-09-10T07:06:00

Nice cavemen sound effects ! Great game, but the controls make this really hard, some kind of gravity / snap to surface would be nice.

Holy War! by Arthur Ostapenko 2016-09-06T06:58:00

My problem with this game, is that I don't know what am I doing wrong. My religion just isn't catching on, and I have no idea why. If you have played Plague Inc. a very similar game where you control a disease, then you might remember that next to every mutation was a description that told you about the effects, and you could check every country to see if it was rich arid cold, so you could modify your virus to spread more easily in that country. But in this game I have no idea what am I doing wrong. Still I got to admit this is the most polished game I have seen so far, that map is just wonderful.

Year of the Bow Simulator 2017 by Driadon 2016-09-07T09:50:00

Hey, I tried to play the game, but I can't see the bow. I tried using the arrow keys, and It did modify where the arrow went, but without the bow I have no idea where I'm aiming at, until I shoot. Also the power meter doesn't stop at top of the bar, which looks kind of cool :)

Temple Balls by SiberianCyborgs666 2016-09-09T14:47:00

I love the idea to play as the ball. The game feels very well polished, but I would suggest that when you land on the edge of a pit, maybe do damage instead of instadeath.

Blocky Hill by SweatyChair 2016-09-10T08:49:00

Great game but how can I rotate the traps?

SmashSmith by Lukbebalduke 2016-09-10T12:40:00

This is a very interesting idea! But I'm not sure how the game calculates the damage, seems kind of weird to me, I once started clicking randomly and created a fan like blade that could one hit kill enemies. Also since the forge doesn't restrict the shape of the polygons you can draw impossible shapes that doesn't make sense.

Aquadrata by Four Quarters 2016-09-04T15:17:00

This game is awesome, the music and the visuals create a superb atmosphere.

Abandoned Planet by Remicy 2016-09-06T03:09:00

Damn these puzzles are hard!

Steam Heart by SinclairStrange 2016-09-12T09:59:00

Awesome! I don't know how did you pull this off in 72 hours, but great work ! This is my favorite game of LD37 so far. I think its even better that Aquadrata or No Mario's Sky!

Archaeologist Simulator by Captain Awesome 2016-09-06T21:57:00

You did this in 72 hours ? nice work !

iTech by saucygames 2016-09-10T14:37:00

Very unique art style ! Gameplay is kind of weird, not exactly sure what my caveman are gathering / building.

No Man's Clay by Rfdshir 2016-09-05T21:10:00

I had no idea clay animation would look this good! Awesome idea! Unfortunately the windows version didn't work well for me, the speed of the game was 1/10 of the webGL version. Must be a bug or something.

The Mighty Stick by mitya1234 2016-09-04T00:29:00

Cool game! I was lost at first, but after reading up comments I managed to complete it with like 2% of oxygen.
Basically what you have to do is this:
- Find Stick
- Find reactor ( big red chunk )
- Hit reactor with stick to move it to Monolith (Big Black Pillar)
- Find Radio module ( gray cube with electronics )
- Move it to monolith
- Enter morse code by standing next to Monolith, hitting it with stick, small hit = . / Large hit = -
- Type SOS??? ...---...
- Walk into the... rocket ? ( Blue Cone )

Watch for Falling Rocks by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2016-09-10T08:32:00

This game made me smile. The music and the art style are makes are superb. And all in all it feels polished.

Ancient Heritage by indieyp 2016-09-04T15:37:00

I like how you can achieve a stylish look using these simplistic shapes. But a minimap would be nice, using the radar I get lost all the time.

Temple Explorer by Azumiar 2016-09-03T23:31:00

RIP BEN.

Loved the wonky physics, and the levels. But some sound effects would be nice. Have you tried sfxr ? Its a sound effect generator basically you just have to spam the randomize button and it will generate the sound effect you wanted within minutes. Check it out: http://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html !

LD38 — A Small World

You Dig-It by recursor 2017-05-15T19:24:03Z

Cool game, but the crabs that kill you in 1 hit are really annoying, it would be better if you give a player a health bar or hearts and then only 5 or 6 hits would kill the player. Maybe you should reduce their hitboxes too, because its kind of hard to jump over them. Also I noticed that you can push the bombs but it's so slow that I just didn't have the patience to do it. Anyway very nice pixel art on the main character and the animation is beautiful!

Space Balls by Dejvo 2017-05-11T01:25:37Z

Cool game ! Very unique, I love the giant Eyeball at the end !

Alchemist's Prison by Max Amaden 2017-05-14T15:02:30Z

*Day four never came.*

This is a great Compo entry! Feels very polished! The graphics are beautiful, I don't know how did you pull this off in 2 days, but its amazing! I love the shakespearean way the customers talking. The theme feels a bit forced, and some of music would be nice but I think this game could much more than a jam game if you could add some complexity to the brewing / buying, and maybe flesh out the story a littlebit more.

Here are a few ideas: - Regular customers asking for "the usual" and if you don't give them the right potions they will not come again - Maybe add stirring to the recipes like " mix the hartsone with the Basilisk eye, then add the poison berry" - Add some danger to the mix, for example adding hartstone to an already Hot potion would make an explosion, and the smoke would limit your vision / may be blow up the customer  you could use this to get rid of the customers you don't like - As for the story you could do something like Recettear did, like you messed up and owe a large amount of gold to some shady wizard and you have to make ends meet at the end of the week or he will polymorph you into a hobgoblin.

A bug I noticed: When messing up the large potion of heath, I got the message: Potion creation failed you must create a regular sized Health Potion

Alchemist's Prison by Max Amaden 2017-05-14T20:33:32Z

@max-amaden Thats awesome I will keep an eye out for the post jam version!

Land of the Sun by HolyBlackCat 2017-05-14T13:10:24Z

> Thanks for playing.

> You died 29 times.

I supposed to do this with 0 deaths ? :scream: I don't think I can do that ...

Anyways, This is a great game ! Really hard, kind of evil with all those spikes. *(If you wanna be more evil change up the attack pattern order in the last stage of the 4th boss. :smiling_imp: )* This music is nice but its much too tame for a game about boss fights, it makes me sleepy instead of excited not a very good match. Also the jumping mechanics feels kind of weird floaty. But this is a great entry especially considering its a Compo entry! The main menu is beautiful, and the pixel art amazing, especialy for the first boss and grass, much better than [mine](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-world-transport) ! Do you mind if copy the way you draw tiles, and grass ? I really like them!

(Un)Happy by pcmaster 2017-05-15T15:55:56Z

Nice game you got there! Maybe some description about what you need to do, and some backstory could help.

Gaia by PowerSpark 2017-05-15T00:09:44Z

First I got to say that the your pixel art is superb, also the platforming is great too! But I can't really get my head around this cloud based puzzle platforming, first push then pull, sometimes get stuck in it, it feel like the clouds are teleporting back to their original position. Also the fact that there is an invisible wall to the left but you can basicly walk in the air at the right side is weird.

But I liked the overall mood of the game, unfortunately I got stuck at the level with the creates, I just cant get to the second create, this game is really hard !

ATLANTIS by OccultOne 2017-05-13T21:50:03Z

First I have to say that the main menu music is **Haunting** ! The graphics are nice as well and together they perfectly match the mood of the game. **This is a great game!**

But there were a few things that could be better: First the fact that the Mana Generator looks exactly the same as the Ancient Defenses, and since none of them are mentioned in the readme, I didn't even know that the generator existed in the beginning. Also it took me a while to figure out where are the action points and mana displayed.

And unfortunately I encountered many bugs in the WebGL build:

- I can only click on the left side of the ability button - The ship teleported to a new location at the start of the turn and the "Calling the Ship" message was shown. - Couldn't Interact with the Mana Generator on multiple occasions. - The scout's teleportation didn't work on the Druid with the heir. (*Is this by design ?*) - After moving to an Ancient Defense Building and Interacting with it the turn not ended automatically, I could click on the move button but could not move. - The Interact button showing wrong tooltip, and sometimes not working. Its like the game logic thinks the character stands somewhere else. Also after barely surviving sinking of the whole Island where my civilisation lived, I would probably build my city next time somewhere deep inside the mainland. But who knows maybe the last heroes of Atlantis are total island freaks!

Insect Attack by SimplePotential 2017-05-14T00:26:58Z

@simplepotential This not a bad game! Especially if you did it in 6 hours, I mean I worked on [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-world-transport) almost 3 days and its barely functional. ^_^'

If you want to make a better post jam game, you definitely need to create a safe zone around the spray can, where no bug can spawn. Also I would advise you to change the background from this monotonous dotted landscape to something more varied like a picnic table or something. As for the spawning of the bugs you could draw a growing shadow just before they spawn, so it would look like they are falling. And you should change the speed of the ants to be a random value, so it would make the game less predictable.

Also I think a some kind of leaderboards could help to make people play your game more!

Anyways nice game my best score was 6750!

Slice of Life by tweedle 2017-05-11T12:17:11Z

Wow, this is one of the best games I played in this dare! Definitely a 5:star: in Graphics and Audio! As for the gameplay, I felt like the first 2 mushrooms were useless, I ended up only using 4th to create a minefield around the base and actively hunt with the 3rd when I can. (because it was cheaper). I understand that you supposed to slow down the enemies with the 1st mushroom while the 2nd deals damage, but since 2nd is moving to the target, it will go in front of the first, and since its too weak its get eaten without doing any real damage. Also one other problem is that the hud blocks the view if you staying at the bottom of the screen. Also the my base always gets destroyed in seconds, it's not a hard game but you should probably reduce the damage of the enemies.

Anyway its a very well done game, one of most polished I have played so far, congrats !

(Try [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-world-transport)! It kinda sucks! ^_^')

The Adventure of Malvin by NOFUEL 2017-05-19T19:57:24Z

Wow nice job ! This is better than most Jam games I have played. Level design on the first stage was kind of confusing, and maybe the music was a little repetitive but otherwise this is a perfect little game.

Small World Transport by devpaul 2017-05-05T01:23:57Z

@campbell Thanks! I actually wanted to create a WebGL game (that's why you have to quit by ALT+F4), but I don't really have a website, and I wasn't sure were to upload. Maybe I will look into the github pages thing on the weekend.

Small World Transport by devpaul 2017-05-13T20:04:20Z

@occultone Thanks for playing !

Wait, Pepperidge farm is real ? I'm not from the States and I thought it's just something out the Family Guy. *Oops!*

Small World Transport by devpaul 2017-05-13T20:07:08Z

@richard-michael-smith Thank you for your kind words!

Changing zoom level relative to the speed, thats a great Idea! I will try to use it in my post jam version!

A world too small and no jetpack by mikel 2017-05-15T16:56:35Z

Nice game! I really liked the art style, but the jumping mechanics felt sluggish, and the lack of control in the air did not help. I think it would be better if the "alien fountain traps" would be out of sync. Also thanks to the random placement of the enemies and the fuel cans, the difficulty became random, sometimes its too hard other times its to easy.

HexCity by MartensCedric 2017-05-11T14:38:42Z

Well, all I could do was 70, even with making notes. It's good to finally see a Compo entry, all I have played so far was Jam Games. How do you came up with such an original puzzle game ? I always wanted to create a puzzle game but I can't come up with anything new, I always feel like I just copying other games.

PogoPogo by obvious-san 2017-05-09T00:42:28Z

This is awesome! Feels really polished. If you are doing a post jam version, I think you should include some kind of Leaderboard that would help to motivate the players to replay the game for a higher score.

SnowGlobe Warrior by Ethan Allwood 2017-05-19T19:27:21Z

Its looks so awesome, but I kind of expected a more fluid faster gameplay.

Don't Make Me Stop This Car! by UncleChris 2017-05-11T15:00:50Z

The music is nice, but I don't think it matched the mood of the game, also I hear some annoying background noise. The cars are nice, must have taken a while to draw them all, but again its kind of weird how the cars look like line art, the background like pixel art, and the heads like vector art. Also I felt like sometimes the cars in front of me spawned in a way that made it impossible survive. I understand why you had to cut some of the features, [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-world-transport) is simple and a Jam entry, but I run out of time too! Most of the features had to be cut.

rovR by morrilet 2017-05-14T00:01:17Z

Awesome Game ! This one of the best games I have played on this jam. The planet to planet platforming is a very original idea! And the music perfectly fit the mood. Well done!

High Society Poking Enthusiasts by Dev Dennis 2017-05-11T16:43:00Z

Well that sure is a rather ... Unique idea. Kinda feels like you aimed too high on this one, honestly I'm amazed you could do this much in 2 days. Music kinda feels weird but the sound effects were nice!

Lil Planet by BladeSides 2017-05-15T19:49:40Z

This is a challenging game! It would be better if I could restart the game without refreshing the page because I die a lot. The winter season with the Ice balls are particularly deadly, on my second try I died in 3 seconds because immediately 3 Ice balls spawned above me. Also some kind of damage immunity after getting hurt would be nice. Not a big fan of the music, but the platforming feels nice.

A Relatively Small World by Samusoidal 2017-05-14T02:05:25Z

First thing I did was to pick up the pug, then put him into the ocean -> game over. Maybe it would be better to use some colors, the dark atmosphere and the moody music doesn't suits the comedic premise of the game. But otherwise its a great game. I really liked the homebrewed sound effects.

A Relatively Small World by Samusoidal 2017-05-14T09:41:22Z

@samusoidal I actually like the mood the visuals and the music creates, but kinda feels like the game and the story is much more *"happy"* than this depressing mood.

I could imagine a similar game but instead of protecting the civilisation you are the only survivor of the apocalypse and looking for clues to find out what happened to the world, a game like that would be better suited for these moody audio and visuals in my opinion.

Anyway its a high quality entry, and I salute you for doing this in Compo time! [I couldn't do half of this in jam time.](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-world-transport)

Plutus by Apostate Games 2017-05-14T11:55:51Z

**Awesome game!** I really love the idea of a pissed off Pluto destroying the solar system! The music choice was excellent, and the star wars like intro was a nice touch! Reminds me of [Osmos](http://store.steampowered.com/app/29180/Osmos/) and [Agar.io](http://agar.io/) !

Here are a few things that felt off:

- The sidebar moves way too slowly. - It would be nice if the zoom level would change when you are going very fast / get bigger. - Some kind of map would be useful because the pointer always points to the next planet not the next planet that's actually smaller than you. - I'm not sure why the world is cut into zones.

I also saw a few bugs: - I had a few crashes - Somewhere above 6000kg it started to feel like that my planet's hitbox is much larger than the representation on the screen, running into the sun basicly insta killed me. - Another weird thing in late game that some of planets feel much smaller than me but I can't actually absorb them. - After going very fast I noticed that my turning thrusters animation were displayed in the wrong position. - Sometimes when I turned the main thrusters on the planet jumped forward. *(Probably the thruster animation moves the sprite of the planet forward, i had a similar issue in my game too)*

[Try my game!](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-world-transport)

A Giant Hitch by GenericToast 2017-05-13T23:24:42Z

Cool Game! I think this is a very good interpretation of the theme! Nice work adding music and sounds to it while doing this in compo time! Feels like there is more to it, you should create a post jam version !

Colonized Panda by Pashok 2017-05-14T23:31:37Z

Interesting game, but isn't it supposed to be a Jam entry ? According to the [rules](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules) compo games need to be created by one person.

Gnome Town by Campbell 2017-05-08T23:47:52Z

Well that's an awesome way to start a game! I agree with the others that some instructions about the controls would be nice. But its a fun game!

Polyville by Daniel Conway 2017-05-04T15:36:06Z

Nice looking game! But I don't think that's how windmills work! Also I accidentally skipped half of the quests because I found the Items before speaking with the quest givers.

Johi Farm by AVAVT 2017-05-14T01:25:36Z

This game is the Dark Souls of tomato farming.

Globe Trot by Richard Michael Smith 2017-05-11T16:09:22Z

I don't know how you did this in 2 days, this is awesome ! I feel like the biggest enemy in the game is the camera, but still the game is really fun! I love the music. But I have to ask why are we fighting green hotdogs ?

Globe Trot by Richard Michael Smith 2017-05-11T17:14:22Z

I see, after seeing the food commercials we broadcast to space, the **Intergalactic Fast Food Coalition** decided to avenge their oppressed earthly relatives!

Space Diver by HDTeaV 2017-05-04T15:57:24Z

Awesome Game! I really love the aesthetics! I also created [something similar](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-world-transport), but run out of time before I could make it into a proper game.

FREEDUMB! by Brothers Arcade 2017-05-15T14:25:59Z

Very well done! This is hilarious I really wish it was longer and maybe a little bit more complicated, maybe you should add a freedom + hate meter and after a successful strike the freedom meter should go up if you mess up the hate meter goes up, if it hits max every country starts nuking USA or something like that.
