Oh man, what a great atmosphere!

I really enjoyed exploring the tiny planet - having to interface remotely through the terminal really enhances the sense of the unknown. It kind of gives me a Duskers vibe, but with less stress. The pixel art planet shots were really cool - it took me a little bit of time to realize I could explore an area multiple times to learn more. Doing that really starts dropping other hints for a deeper story. I think there are multiple endings, although I only got one of them. I may play again later to see if I'm right.

Simple gameplay, excellent atmosphere/mood, and terrific audio track. Great job!

Hey guys! You were right about using a headset! I can really tell your team really put a lot of effort into the project and it really paid off. The feedback from the sound on the key presses made me wish I could keep typing forever. The style of the artwork had an awesome retro feel to it and the atmosphere of the music fit it perfectly. The only thing I wish there was more of was visuals, It took me a while to notice that small screen! Nicely done!

samurai-spark 2017-05-01 17:04

Wow really awesome text adventure!

I love the arts of the pod2000, this game is just great  Very lovely done in its details. And the soundtrack makes an awesome atmosphere. But I missed some kind of chronic for my last typed commands on the up key.

Summary a really cool entry

dagegen 2017-05-01 17:05

👍 Relying on such small pictures and audioclips really added to the feeling, that you were remote-controlling a farawy device. What an awesome atmosphere!

psychead 2017-05-01 17:06

Poor rover.

I like the idea, I think it has lots of potential. The sound is outstanding and the atmosphere really well done. With some work on the main puzzle, I can see this work as a full game. Great job!

takusan 2017-05-01 18:47

Cleverly done, and quite immersive I must say. Good idea for a text-based exploration/adventure, and you clearly put a lot of work into interaction and feedback systems. Lots of nice little touches, especially with the interface and audio.

I'd have to play a bit longer (which I intend to do) to give you some constructive feedback, If I find anything that undoubtedly needs improvement, I'll comment further.

With more polish this would make a noteworthy game outside of this jam, so I'd really love to see it developed futher. Cheers!

spaceman 2017-05-01 18:59

The sound effects are awesome! I love the idea too! It reminded me of Duskers. I had a really good time playing through the game. I do wish it was a little more clear where modules should be built. I explored all the areas first, and then just built modules via trial and error.

The atmosphere is amazing! I really love the old-school look and feel with the detailed atmospheric audio work, and the gameplay of typing in commands fits spot on.

It is... pretty much all there is to it though. The superb atmosphere is enough to pull its weight, but there would certainly be room for additional gameplay (probably simply means more actions to do with commands) which would only make it even better. This could be something to think about Post-Jam.

All in all, I played it through a couple times with different endings and can simply say that this is a great entry! Great work!

zeriver 2017-05-01 20:05

Extremely well polished game with great atmosphere! It's really amazing how much climate is in this game, sounds and graphics are just top notch. You put a lot of work in this game and in so short time which is amazing, good job!

samusoidal 2017-05-01 23:07

Excellent atmosphere and audio! Very interesting way of controlling the game, and a neat, well-rounded ending. Good job!

samusoidal 2017-05-01 23:09

Also I would have liked to see command recall by pressing up, like in other command shells. I actually tried to do that at one point.

schizoid2k 2017-05-02 00:52

Very nice entry. Loved playing this game... reminded me of old time text adventures, but with a bit of enhancement (sound and pics). I need to go back and play this one again.

james-dunlap 2017-05-02 01:17

Nice game. The graphics and audio definitely helped to set the mood and were all very relevant to the task at hand. It is an interesting puzzle trying to determine what needed to be built where. Like @samusoidal, I tried to press up for command history, so that would have been a nice feature to add, but that is just being picky. This was very nice work for a weekend!

doc-ill 2017-05-02 01:36

Linux simulator 2000 :D

danman9914 2017-05-02 01:51

Excellent mood and audio. The uploading of photos and audio clips was really intriguing; it gave me just enough to be curious about the planet without giving away too much. The text adventure mechanics worked well, intuitive enough to understand and I never got stuck. Great entry!

red-fan-games 2017-05-02 02:42

Aesthetic almost reminded me of fallout a tad. Really intuative, always understood the main objective.

urban-logic-games 2017-05-02 08:43

Very cool, loved the visual style and sound design was phenomenal. I haven't played a text parser for a while and forgot how fun they can be when done right. This was great.

overmolo 2017-05-02 12:12

Really good feeling typing :D I like the atmosphere too. You can expand the story and make a good investigation game

geckoo1337 2017-05-02 12:30

Really good atmosphere. This game is so well done, that it reproduces perfectly my sensation when I use my keyboard. Maybe there is a little latence to simulate delay? A pretty mood for a unusual gameplay. That is a solid entry ++

2017-05-02 13:45

Want more!!!!!

jordgubben 2017-05-02 17:15

Very nice! The only thing missing here is terminal history (ctrl+r) and auto-completion (tab).

willbl3pic 2017-05-02 20:46

I love it! Everything about the terminal felt so real.

fiote 2017-05-03 13:34

Dat mood/audio... amazing work you guys got there! Made it til the end hehe. So the next mission is LD39? I guess it'll take 4 months of space-travel to get there lol

those-30-ninjas 2017-05-04 00:35

This was excellent, lots of nice polish. Great audio.

kristian-david 2017-05-05 12:05

What an excellent game. This might be the only game that I rated 5 stars for audio because the typing sounds are so satisfying

ekkiiiii 2017-05-05 13:05

Great game! Outstanding audio and very pretty render graphics work very well together and create a dense mood. I agree with @samusoidal on "pressing up to recall commands", that would have been a nice addition.

bemmu 2017-05-05 14:21

As others noted, great atmosphere from the pod render, clickety keyboard sounds, old terminal feeling and ambient sounds. The biggest thing I was missing was a sense of purpose. I felt like I was just stepping through a laundry list of items, instead of being challenged. I did enjoy the feeling of being like a NASA mission controller, getting tiny pictures only downloaded slowly from a distant rover.

udo 2017-05-06 08:24

In every possible way, this game is a better (way better) version of my previous LD entries Planet Improver (http://direct.openfu.com/ld/ld29/attempt2/) and Archeotech Digger (http://direct.openfu.com/ld/ld36/). Well done! :)

krunoslav 2017-05-06 09:01

Great experience! I liked how you need to explore commands to understand. The difficulty and lenght is well balanced. Really nice sounds and atmosphere. Congratulations!

The only thing (just to say something) is that the set of characters "ff", "fi" and "..." denounce that POD2000 is not as old as it seems.

psilon 2017-05-06 09:59

I like the idea. Good graphics, but in this text game, the sound is the best. :)

zaibakk 2017-05-06 11:27

Excellent game! One of the best entry of this Ludum! The mood is fantastic, amazing sounds really! I love this atmosphere! Great work! :)

grahhhhhhhhh 2017-05-06 12:32

I wish I had put on the headphones, it sounded like it would've been really immersive. Audio was fantasic, seemed simple of me, but I really enjoyed typing with the sound effects.

invader 2017-05-06 14:13

It is like I actually have been there on that planet! Great atmosphere and the game definitely lives up for the theme. Awesome UI. Overall is strong 5/5.

la-mecanique-du-plastique 2017-05-06 18:28

Well done, the game is really enjoyable, love the sound, the texts are funny, there is a good mood. I have finished it with pleasure. Bravo !

seconddimension 2017-05-13 20:44

This has an amazing atmosphere, I played through twice and got 2 different endings. I listened through headphones and enjoyed the audio clips. Fantastic entry, top marks!

philomory 2017-05-14 00:15

Maybe it was just me, but I experienced a bunch of technical issues with the game, in three different browsers. It looks really cool, though so far.

* In Chrome, it loaded, but there was a big white box covering about 40% of the canvas; it soon became apparent that it was the text entry area, but it's obviously not supposed to be a visible white box. * In Safari, it wouldn't start. Console complained that "const" declarations aren't allowed in strict mode. * In Firefox, the game actually loaded, and I was able to play. It was pretty cool, but I was only able to do the exploration portion of the game. When I tried to run `archive ls` or `inventory`, instead of listing all the things I had available, it would list one thing I had available (I think the most recent thing), repeatedly (as many times as there should have been things to list). So I couldn't tell what was in my inventory :(

I looked at other player's comments, and I seem to be the only person who's encountered these problems. Not sure what I've done wrong.

tselmek 2017-05-14 19:06

Really nice game, I like how the game really encapsulated the theme.

xxdoombox 2017-05-19 18:48

woah nice job guys! i really enjoyed playing this game!! the atmosphere that you created was outstanding. the art and audio came together wonderfully in order to do so. the audio was quite important in molding the mood. i appreciated the little details like the photos taped to the side of the computer, it really added to the game. the text was cleverly crafted as well. i liked 'time for meditation... 00011001010101101101010100110' xD haha. exo-planet LD38 was clever too. i was able to find 2 different endings, i couldnt get any more so idk if there are others. i felt bad leaving my rover behind :( poor little guy.

whenever i typed in a command, i had to press enter twice in order for it to register. i suppose this may have been intentional, but that seems unlikely. i would have loved for more things to do, and other planets to explore, but i understand the limitations. this means that your game was interesting though, and i wanted more!! i would love to see more content if you continue working on this post-jam. great work guys!
