I'll be honest, I found the controls frustrating to the point of quitting the game. I have no idea if the magnet works or not, it never seemed to do anything.

For future games, you should upload a zip with all necessary files included. Having multiple download links is confusing (I did eventually notice the readme and got it working).

This game is interesting, and I can tell that the clunky controls are part of the game -- but I think you went too far to the side of 'intentionally clunky'. I spent almost all of my money on rotation upgrades because I was trying to get gain some control over my ship. I think tighter controls paired with a faster cargo pace would make this game feel much more enticing to players. Like other users, I also was unable to understand how the magnet worked.

The art is very suiting, and there is definitely some potential for some fun with the mechanics you have set up. Nice entry, overall.

Can't run the game...

@the-triumvirate you probably didn´t download the second file needed. I´ve put it in a .zip now, try it if you want to

@swift we added the upgrade mechanism in a kinda "last minute" update so we havent really tested the balance. The magnet should give every item a little pull towards you but it seems like the force is to small if you haven´t updated it like 25 times which takes very long. Sorry for that.

Controls were ment to be quite difficult, but if you use "e" and "q", you´ll probably have a better time getting the stuff sorted. Anyways, thank you for your feedback

The controls were very frustrating but I can see how this could make for a fun game mechanic but I think it went to far especially because the magnet isn't working in the beginning. struggled for 5 minutes to get 1 piece of junk sorted and then I ragequit. It seems like it could be fun but I really can't manage the controls. I used E and Q btw. I think a solution could be that the upgrades are easier to get and you can get better fast. Because keeping the controls so difficult in the beginning makes you feel your upgrades do something then.

Indeed, it is much easier navigating with the q w e s keys and correcting the trajectory with the a d keys. I think the game would have benifited some larger dumps, or at least, some more walls so that the items don't get stuck that often in a corner X) Otherwise, I really liked the concept, even if I think it doesn't really match the theme, as there i no real pressure or mecanic around the fact that you're running out of space. A win/lose state could have been nice to. It was fun dashing through space, scoring dump goals though X)

@major-sauce The idea was great but controls were kind of weird for me but still I enjoyed it, good job buddy.

major-sauce 2018-08-22 07:17

@lekkel124 there actually is a loss state if if the whole thing fills up to much, just no indication thatfor. The magnet was intended to solve the „stuck at walls“ issue but it is simply to hard to get the magnet running, thats‘s what I know for now

First off, congrats on finishing! Not everybody can put out a completed product in 72 hours.

That said, I had a lot of trouble with this game. It seemed more like a very early prototype than an actual game. Here's how the rating breaks down.

FUN: To be honest, I didn't have much fun with this, partly because I never organize anything  The controls were also extremely difficult to use and I just couldn't get more than 1 piece of ore to it's correct place. I did see that 'movement stabilizers' were an upgrade, but it wasn't worth it to collect the required ore to upgrade. It's certainly a different control scheme from most top-down spaceship games, and I'll talk more about that below. This category got a 1/5.

INNOVATION: Like I said, the unique control scheme (throttling up and down as opposed to just moving forward and backward) is a bit different, but that's about it mechanically. 1.5/5

THEME: The theme this time around didn't allow for a whole lot of unique interpretation, and this particular one wasn't really out of the box. For at least giving reasons for me running out of space, and for putting it *in* space, I gave it a 1.5/5

GRAPHICS: The graphics, while good pieces on their own, weren't consistent in color, style, or pixel size, and that brings the score down to 1.5/5. At least you had graphics that you spent time on though, a lot of people just use simple shapes for objects.

HUMOR: I'm not sure why you didn't opt out of humor, since it didn't seem to have any jokes or funny parts. 1/5

MOOD: I didn't get a whole lot of feel from this one, and I think a music track would have helped that a lot. 1/5

OVERALL: Overall, for the reasons listed above, I gave it a 1/5. You shouldn't feel bad, though! While I don't know if this is your first jam or not, everybody stumbles sometimes and that's how we learn to get back up. As you saw when you played my 'game', I wasn't even able to finish!

I hope you can take what you've learned this time around and apply it to your next jam effort. Good job!
