The Gun Keeper by hadesfury 2015-04-21T17:53:00
There is no indication of whether I'm doing something right or not. It looks nice though.

Lacks balls.
I got stuck in walls a couple times and didn't want to restart all over again. I got the powerdrill like three times, but got stuck while trying different things while looking for green ore and couldn't bring myself to do it again.
Would definitely play and finish a post-jam version.
What are the things they shoot? Is it a fist?
Delightfully weird.
Should be nice to play on mobiles.
Gameboy forever!
Wish it wasn't as buggy, but it's good fun.
Was it made in 48 hours? Wow!
Looks like a nice tribute/parody, but imho, it's still about shooting and not hugging.
Very impressive visually.
This would fit pretty well on a smartphone or the like, I imagine.
Lovely pixelart and a very solid mechanic. If different enemy types reacted differently to being linked and there was a bit of story - it would be a complete game.
@Cryotube we haven't time to finish paint physics, but definetely want to work on this after the jam!
Also, you can mix colors ;)
We've added both Linux and OSX build!
You can try left hand versus your right hand :D

@Tuism
Your criticism is very valid and those things were not design choices, but something we plainly didn't have time to do.
We only realised we made it far too difficult to figure out which one are you after we played it in more or less the state it is now, but it was too late by then. Different colours on different buttons were pretty much planned from the get go as a way to provide "charges" for the splat "ability", except they weren't numbers, but different colours.
Also, the decision to take the sound away is based in the fact that audio is not a very reliable indication of things in local multiplayer games. You play with friends and talk over the game so tying an important gameplay moment to it wouldn't be quite right.
We also did plan to add something that would force matches to end, but didnt't have time to implement it because of possibly unnecessary rigidity of our code.
Stay tuned for post-jam developement and we might just change your mind.
Nice idea! Movement feels pretty good.
Nice art.
This certainly has potential.
I like how the wife keeps sleeping while on fire.
The general look reminded me somewhat of Atom Zombie Smasher.
An interesting mechanic, that would work much better on touch devices.
Very good, to the point even my girlfriend liked it.
Would definitely like to see this mechanic expanded.
Really neat looking, but what am I supposed to do with this gun?..
Pretty good! Stylish, moody and atmospheric, although the pacing a bit too slow for my liking. Also colliding with walls changed the orientation of my character, I don't remember if it was like that in Alone in the Dark, but it made the character feel unresponsive when close to a wall.
It's pretty shallow as it is, but there's certainly a lot of potential. The graphics are nice, shame there are no sounds though.
Pipeline the propaganda!
Didn't seem like much fun, but sure looked good.
I got a bug, the action froze, while music kept playing.
с is undefined
+ fro the Chekhov!
As a joke, sure. The game... well, there isn't much of it, is there?
Wow, 5/5, as well as all your previous LD entries.
Could use the Mario-style "get hit, lose a powerup" mechanic to make for longer playsessions.
I can only imagine how the the pitch of the idea went. A pretty solid game.
Awesome idea! It's somehow too hard to aim, which makes game harder in a inconvinient way.
Could be fun if the controls were better. It's really hard to do anything if you're new, I imagine you guys are well acquainted with your own controls, but think about others.
Nice low-poly look, but it's so luggy :(
Deep :o
Music fits perfectly.
Well, there wasn't... much of a game?
It's quite difficult, but pretty good. I like how the attraction force is pretty much constant regardless of distance, it removes the chaotic element of physics unpredictability that ruins many physics-based puzzle games.
Looks awesome! Dat fish though :D
It was much easier to control it with a keyboard rather than with a gamepad, after I switched the controls felt really good. I'm not a big fan of score attacks and feel like it could've had more potential if there was some kind of opposition, but it's still a pretty fun game. Most importantly, a spiked ball on a chain attached to a car is truly unconventional and innovative.
They should hustle as hard as they hate! ^_^
Also, loved dodge animation a lot!
Awesome!
Prize for SAD in controls!
Also, big thumb ups for the narrative and the endings!
Wow, what a game. Couldn't fondle it all the way through, unfortunately.
It's so hard to spot the bugs and too easy to lost 'em :(
So hard! Look is nice, though.
It was a bit hard to aim clothed attacks and I discoverd you can take clothes off the dead bad guys purely by accident. A pretty fun game though.
I couldn't get past the controls, sorry.
Great work!
Doesn't work on my Windows either.
Far too overcomplicated, IMO. You even had to provide cheatsheets.
Nicely done!
Game over effect is nice.
You should work on this and add more options/mini-games. Maybe something like a Candybox?
Nice idea and really hard puzzles!
Unfortunately, gut stuck halfway through after I respawned under the floor.
You probably know it isn't a good game, but you learned something making it, right?
It was hard to understand what's goin on. But dialoges was fun.
Smooth animations, addictive gameplay, like!
Quite interesting. Wish the interface was a bit more clear and you could restart before the match is over, but it's clearly a progarmmer-made game so it's understandable.
A decent idea that heavily lacks polish.
Mangetic mechanics are always interesting. But, need more variable enemies and levels.
Awesome!
Got some problems with collision - resulted in many restarts. Should be nice to have some checkpoints.
Art style is neat! That dithering makes gradients and light look very nicely.
Controls are really bad.
Loved the graphics!
Went straight for the spoon, no regrets.
Far too confusing, but it sure looks and sounds nice.
You guys did a good job and deserve plenty of sleep. I only wish it fit the theme better.
It was rather hard to control where the block goes, but other than that - it's pretty good.
Last level is awesome - full hexagon tube ruins my brains.
A solid idea, but needs more polish.
I dunno, I'd like to see how far can this mechanic be taken.
It looks pretty nice, but it's a bit too simple for my tastes.
It's okay, but as you said on the blog, a bit too simplistic.
I can imagine some people liking this, but it's certainly not my cup of tea.
Maaan, you really do love paperwork.
Maaan my GPU nearly exploded playing this.
Quite impressive for a one-man project though.
The movement was pretty clunky, the character doesn't stop when I let go of the button and so it was very hard to move around.
With combat, I can see where you were getting your inspiration from, but killing even one creature required far too much effort so I just sprinted past all of them after the second one.
Other than that, very intriguing, certainly. Especially I loved the audio.
why... just why
What a game.
Hey, Chris, OSX build will be available soon.
Thank you guys for your positive reviews!
At the end we figured out a way to do the views properly, but it was too late to change it.
I'll make a post-mortem on the frontpage sometime on the weekend for anyone interested.
Pretty, but confusing, and ultimately too simplistic for my liking.
It's kind of annoying that there was no ending of any kind.
More! Make more levels!
Our artist doesn't believe it's a two-man project.
10/5, had a blast.
Please don't abandon this.
Some instructions would've been nice, I didn't figure out you have to bump into cars with nitro until my third go.
Really well made, I even understand why you made people replay all the dialogues again on game over.
Tina <3
I got to the second planet by colliding with too many humans and being thrown into space.
The second planet had a few guys that I couldn't attack no matter what.
I liked the music though.
Only three comments about Dark Souls? This is the fourth!
Couldn't get past the giant knight though, seems like there are no invincibility frames on rolls. Muscle memory, eh.
nice game but gameplay easy and flat
You are not very monstrous, you're just a ninja.
Fun game but too easy
Fun! but few.
It doesn't seem like you made good use of your random dungeon generation.
The idea was interesting, kind of action-oriented Dungeon Keeper it seemed, but lacking in challenge or variation. Still, quite well made and a good bit of fun.
fun game! Thanks!
I sometimes took damage without any enemies or spikes present, maybe I collided with dead enemies?
Still quite impressive for a one-man project.
Nothing I can say that hasn't been said already, I'm hoping you'll put a post-compo version with the wrinkles ironed out.
Крутота. Но нужно больше медуз.
Moody and atmospheric, even though the gameplay is rather simple. Still, impressive for a compo entry.
Grate grphics, cool concept. It was very fun to play.
It's often hard to tell if my strikes will connect or if my sword is too small. Also, livelier enemies would be more interesting than slippery movement.
Very fun platformer. But jumping high is very buggy, couldn't do the jumping up section when fire is coming.
Wow, so relaxing. I almost fell asleep. Thank you guys, great entry
Nice game.
not sure if bad controls are part of the game
Pretty nice game. ASCII rocks.
Visuals are great.
Pls elaborate on this, it's great!
not really a game, is it?
Exceedingly stylish! It would be a whole lot cooler with sound, but I imagine it's hard to produce them for compo schedule.
Very minimal, no frills, loved it.
Not to self-promote, but it's really simillar to the game I submitted. It's also a game where you build an association chain to the final conclusion and we considered resetting to the beginning if you make a misstep, but ultimately decided against it. In the end, it was fun, the story linked together pretty nicely.
Great game. Love it. Idea is very innovative
Paper plane physics are fun! It took me a while to understand who am I supposed to deliver to, partly because the dropoff zones are not clearly marked and I didn't understand gender signs.
Also, I take that 死 on the whiteboard is a joke for those who can read kanji :D
Got to the fourth room manually, went autoplay after that. Actually curious how long can it go on for.
nice
Impressive! Wish I could hold X to clean up/wash dishes though.
Actually pretty fun, but I wish I could see the thursters as well as maybe regulate the intensity somehow.
Not sure what medicine was for, never ended up needing it.
It's clever, I like it. Why the billboard lamps though? Just a stylistic choice? Billboard tutor looks really cool, with all the poses and emotes, but lamps puzzled me more than the actual puzzles.
On [this](http://i.imgur.com/Vhn0puP.png) level it's not immediately obvious that the bridge on lower right center bit isn't lowering because it's off-center. The bridge on the lower right corner bit is lowered so I thought it was a bug until I realised I have to swap the tiles to the one with a centered bridge. Also, especially since the controls are a bit awkward, players probably shouldn't be allowed to fall off bridges.
Other than that, nicely done.
Amazing, first entry I've given straight 5's. I just wish it was longer. The guy that you rub the wrong way and the last puzzle are brilliant.
Really cool puzzle game, watched it on stream so had it spoiled for me, but gj nonetheless.
Short and sweet, very nice. The foul-mouthed badger is definitely the star though.
I wonder if it's always possible to complete the game given the RNG. I mean, I haven't had two fox tiles in a row, so there must be some underlying set of rules regulating what tiles come up. I've managed to beat it once, but a few of my losses felt like something I couldn't have avoided.
This game is huge for 72 hours, you guys are great!
Is there keyboard support? I only found that R restarts.
Really strong command of atmosphere and visuals, very cool. Much of the symbolism is lost on me, unfortunately, but the general mood is very strongly present.
Incredible, straight 5's, amazing how much quality stuff you managed to put in.
I had to look up the solution for the compass puzzle. I understood what I was meant to do, but couldn't figure out the way the letters have to be written. Maybe I missed a hint, dunno.
It moves so fast it's almost unmanagable. Could be because I was using FF.
This is really great. Levels have obvious solutions once you stop and think about it, but you can't (for the most part, at least) sleepwalk through them. It also looks and sounds incredible, especially blue/red spore effects.
Hint for 1-12: there's literally an arrow pointing at how to approach.
Mood and art are amazing, I only wish instead of a score I could read like pseudo-comments explaining why some pictures get more likes than others.
I only wish there was a downloadable version, my browser is too laggy for precision platforming.
Juicy and pretty, but a bit on the frustrating side of hard.
I'm not sure why doesn't the attack come out?
I like that it's easy to completely screw yourself over if you get too greedy.
