LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Drybreed by alvivar 2015-04-25T04:43:00

Phenomenal.

Everything about this game was crafted to create the perfect tone: outstanding audio, and abstract but intriguing story, and a foreboding sense that you're doing something for which there will be consequences you do not understand. There is a sense of great mystery that is conveyed without the player feeling disillusioned with the lack of explanations.

There is a sense of great mystery that is conveyed without the player feeling disillusioned with the lack of explanations. I got some heavy Starseed Pilgrim vibes from this game, but Drybreed took it's own direction.

I can unequivocally say that, out of the 175 games I've now rated, this is absolutely my favourite entry. Please continue making content like this.

Mable: The Journey by tripleVisionGames 2015-04-23T22:50:00

Aaaaaaaand best game (overall) so far

Wellbeing by reheated 2015-04-27T19:05:00

I'm a fan of logic puzzles myself and I know how hard it is to come up with a ruleset for one that's interesting to solve and of a good level of difficulty. This game got it spot on, along with wonderful audio and a fun story. The idea for multiple solutions to a logic problem giving two different endings to a game was ingenious.

1337 BEAT AGENT by ConflictiveLabs 2015-04-22T23:18:00

That retro feel has been captured perfectly! Super polished and challenging game that kept me playing for a long time.

Crump Rush by OnlySlightly 2015-04-22T23:28:00

Incredible entry. Not a bad word to say about this one, top marks all around. Kept me playing for over an hour to beat the dev times :)

(mental)fairy by 0x0961h 2015-04-22T23:17:00

Smooth and gratifying gameplay, the difficulty curve dropped off slightly and made for quite an easy game but the mechanic, audio and graphics meld together really well. Enjoyed this one a lot :)

Invictus by coderitual 2015-04-22T23:32:00

A really cool idea that always keeps you on your toes. Challenging and fun to play.

Waffle Warrior by Super Hamster 2015-04-23T05:05:00

Super tight controls and really impressive considering no game engine was used. Technically impressive, and those arms are glorious ;)

Panash & Plume by tikilittle 2015-04-22T23:18:00

I really like the at style you've got going with this one, voxel graphics lend themselves well to the bright colours and aesthetic - really fun :)

Square Sprint by jackrugile 2015-04-26T22:05:00

Absolutely spot on. A game built around beating personal bests is a great way of getting replay value out of a short game like this, and it's damn fun which means I'm certainly going to be doing just that for quite a while. Kudos.

GraviSniper by unitycoder_com 2015-04-22T23:30:00

One of the most gratifying games to succeed in. Very polished game and a really interesting mechanic.

Attractor by LegacyCrono 2015-04-22T23:26:00

Love the art style, reminded me a lot of Fez but higher res :)

ERR by LukeZaz 2015-04-23T04:07:00

All the mechanics were executed very smoothly, all in all a fun game to play. This game could certainly go places post-LD :)

Trouble Cliff by catchthefloaty 2015-04-23T06:33:00

A challenging but enjoyable game with a mechanic that deviates enough from the standard shooter to feel fresh and new. With some final polishing this could be a fantastic game :)

The War Dog by Xinelu 2015-04-22T23:19:00

Very simple graphics but a really nice game, great sounds and fits the theme perfectly. Congrats :)

Sleep Tight by commodoreKid 2015-04-22T15:26:00

Nice tone to the game and some interesting ideas. With some smoothing out and bug fixes this would make for a really fun game with friends.

Skull Bomb by mattmirrorfish 2015-04-24T01:14:00

One of the most tonally gripping games I've played in this LD. Having a huge open map like that in a stealth game is a very interesting idea.

Lucid by Kain.Oborin 2015-04-23T05:42:00

Some very impressive work flow for only 8 hours ;) With some fleshing out, this could become a truly great RPG.

Roll Initiative by Lynx 2015-04-23T07:40:00

Perfect example of how a simple game mechanic can make for an addictive and enjoyable experience. Very polished, and especially impressive for a compo game. Congrats.

Robo Mission by pixzleone 2015-04-23T07:21:00

This could make for a great launching platform for a great game. This is already technically impressive and with a nice concise story. Keep it up!

Death By A What!? by Murchurl 2015-04-23T06:00:00

I think this may indeed be the first game I've ever played where you throw randy rabbits at an onslaught of zombies, and I hope it isn't the last. Great game, well executed.

Crystalline by TheMeorch 2015-04-22T23:35:00

Outstanding entry. Puzzle design excelled considering the time frame, and a polished aesthetic. This one really had me thinking and I enjoyed seeing it through to the end. Now I want more :)

Safer in the Dark by broknecho 2015-04-23T04:50:00

A truly unique and innovative mechanic executed perfectly. Great game.

EXECUTION by stray 2015-04-23T05:16:00

One of the most unique takes on a game I've seen, not only in LD but ever. It's refreshing to see games experiment with different moods and messages such as this.

Just my own two cents by NekuSoul 2015-04-22T22:17:00

Having now played over 100 entries, this is easily top 3, maybe even my favourite. Super innovate, far more than anything I've played, and incredibly clever puzzle design for such a short time. Kudos.

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark by Romixal 2015-04-22T14:52:00

Impressive puzzle design for such a short timeframe. Satisfying to play and complete. Keep going with this game!

Glorch's Great Escape by wg_phancock 2015-04-23T02:21:00

Really like the music, very fun gameplay!

Ghost in the Machine by Alice 2015-04-22T23:22:00

Intriguing story, and considering I'm not usually one for text adventures I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this one through to the end.

UMBRELLA OF DOOM by NoxNode 2015-04-23T06:14:00

This would be a cool base mechanic to expand into a thoroughly interesting combat game. Keep going with this :)

Latvian Milk by Dreyan 2015-04-21T02:05:00

It'll come to both I imagine in the next few days, fear not :)

Latvian Milk by Dreyan 2015-04-22T21:23:00

We're working on it right now as a matter of fact, it's going to get a whole lot bigger :)

Latvian Milk by Dreyan 2015-04-24T08:28:00

Hi Omiya - sorry to hear, that never happened in testing. Reckon you'd be able to replicate the bug so we can isolate it and remove it from the build.

Octopus: no not in that build, although the game has been expanded since and we're continuing to make it a fair chunk larger :)

Lethal Throw by ermrk 2015-04-22T23:25:00

A cool take on the already quite unique idea of controlling two separate characters at the same time. Surprisingly fun for such a simple mechanic.

SolSurvivor by Blobo 2015-04-22T23:21:00

I love how such a simple mechanic made for such a fun game. It would be easy for this game - having so many different weapons to use - to have quickly gotten overwhelmingly hard or complicated, but you avoided it with some very balanced, thought out gameplay.

Soul Breaker by DeadFragment 2015-04-22T22:46:00

Gorgeous game, nice mechanic - would be cool if using left click vs. right click could be used to influence puzzle design, as at present right click seems to be universally the better option. Please develop further, I really enjoyed it!

Please Wait by PerilousPete 2015-04-22T12:37:00

Using slippery-ness to your advantage as a weapon is very novel, and I like it's application here - cleaning stuff up is also inherently fun, though the game is let down a little by the graphics and manoeuvrability. Would be interesting to see what mor could be done with the concept!

LD33 — You are the Monster

Dungeon of the Mimic by Alpenter 2015-08-27T08:10:00

Quite cathartic for anyone who's been munched by mimics countless times before. Fun, fluid and sounds great. Nice job!

Massacre Monday by wg_phancock 2015-08-27T08:03:00

Fantastic game, very polished and great fun. I can't decide which I prefer, this or Glorch!

The Thritch Remains by Dreyan 2015-08-25T07:28:00

FIXED: Seemed to have copied the wrong link in!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Milgram by Kortuga 2015-12-21T03:43:00

Fantastic game. Loved the writing, and based on a really interesting topic. Congrats!

Initial Conditions by reheated 2015-12-28T08:18:00

This is fantastic. Great job on the puzzles and audio. Very, very enjoyable. Would definitely play more of it ^^

33 grams by martincohen 2015-12-21T01:41:00

Apologies for a bit of a long comment but I want to gush a little about why this is my favourite LD34 game so far. Damn.

This game has some beautiful graphics, beautiful audio and sets the tone perfectly. But more than this, it's the subtleties in this game that make it. First off, the silkworm collection blends so seamlessly with the music I didn't even realise it wasn't part of it the first few times. Very cool use of dynamic music.

Second, whether intentional or not, the spear traps in this game actually produce a misdirection that makes for one of the most minimally designed puzzles I've seen. Despite the fact that the spears rise up and down, usually you can simply fly around them. When you reach the worms completely surrounded by spears, the simple answer of simply waiting until they were down didn't click for a minute for me because there was 'no way in' and I was still thinking about them like I had all the others, as simple obstacles to avoid.

Third, the use of negative space is fantastic, and flying over blackness to arrive at more map produces a feel of sequence breaking despite the fact that the game map is entirely open.

Kudos.

Conga Master by BubsyPoochies 2015-12-15T13:15:00

Music was very catchy! Thoroughly enjoyed it, however I thought that sometimes it maybe took a tad bit too much time to get others to join the line.

Xonatiuh by dementor561 2015-12-15T05:40:00

Praise be unto Serpent God. I liked it good job. :)

CyberMayan by dx0ne 2015-12-18T11:40:00

Nice use of the two buttons theme, and while there are only three levels, they are very well executed! Great job (:

Octov by Taldius 2015-12-15T20:13:00

This game is really interesting - really great use of the theme, had lots of fun!

Crazy Tornado City by Zener 2015-12-28T09:04:00

Fulfilled lifelong goal of being a tornado.

Nice work on the game :D Reminded me a lot of Katamari Damacy, controls felt nice. Fit both themes very well. ^^

The Tournament by aare 2015-12-18T11:20:00

In the beginning the combat was a bit confusing, but once I got the hang of it I found it quite clever ^^ It's a very nice idea, and you seem to have gotten a lot completed in just 28 hours (:

The Uncertainty Principle by radmars 2015-12-27T12:06:00

Love, love, love your art! (: Interesting game, nice use of the theme.

Gift Wrapper by NightShadow0 2016-01-02T01:16:00

Cute game, nice use of the theme, fun ^^

Super Spider World by philipp 2015-12-21T02:50:00

Definitely a unique mechanic. With some slightly more intuitive controls this game has a lot of potential. Cool game!

Stretch by Ramperkash 2015-12-21T02:03:00

Don't think I've seen a mechanic like this before. Well executed and good puzzle design has been built around it. Great game!

Dead Silence: A walk in the park by tinykidtoo 2015-12-27T09:37:00

Not exactly sure how the theme fits in? And it was unclear to me what the point of the static position was, when I played around with it, it didn't seem to have much purpose. I did enjoy the "screams" of the civilians though, it was pretty amusing. (:

JUMPR by Supernaught 2015-12-17T18:47:00

Excellent vibe, obviously this would transition to mobile very well. Great artwork and sound deign, top quality game

Run Santa, run! by bessdlan 2015-12-17T07:32:00

Nice concept, music was fitting and the screaming children were a nice, humorous touch. Was a bit sad that when I accidentally caused Santa to run back towards his starting point in one of the levels, I had to close the game and restart as he just kept running into the edge of the map ): Overall, good job (:

SAAAM by Ogniok 2015-12-21T03:22:00

Pretty cool entry with an intriguing atmosphere. I really like the voice acting and dialogue, although I think it could have been made to be a little more different than characters like GLaDOS and the Stanley Parable narrator with some unique traits. Overall a really cool game.

Happy Little Flower by Reccy 2015-12-15T12:45:00

A bit slow, but cute and enjoyable. Graphics, dialogue, audio all go very well together (:

Hey, My Name is Joe! by Pixelaborate 2015-12-28T06:56:00

Cute game, simple concept, but reached a surprising level of difficulty after a few levels (did not expect the sabotage challenges, it was a fun change of pace ^^).

It's Something by RougeRogue 2015-12-28T07:49:00

The balls and the music didn't seem to sync up? I found myself awkwardly pressing z and m without understanding what it had to do with the audio playing.

life by wizord 2015-12-28T09:10:00

Interesting idea, however the movement felt really awkward and was a bit difficult to control.

OH GOD NO by shcromlet 2015-12-28T09:28:00

10/10 name for the game, found myself saying it out loud while playing because to be honest, I had no idea what was going on. Did not understand the giant hand and the red button, but it seems like it could be fun?

It's Full of Stars by incobalt 2015-12-27T10:03:00

Had to download the game because I was unable to click the first star in the web version (I don't really know why?)

Anyway - very, very nice game (: It feels a bit raw, but it's rather relaxing and definitely makes you think ^^

Bicephalisnake by tphx 2015-12-17T07:20:00

Simple idea, executed well (all things considered) and challenging in its use of 2-in-1 directional controls.

Oslo's Puppy by OttersDen 2015-12-17T07:48:00

I really like the ideas going on here, but I really don't care for the controls. (even with the holding down one, then pressing the other to shoot in the proper direction). I did feel as if mana was a bit too difficult to manage, even when I felt like I was being conservative it seemed to drain a bit too quickly (or regen a bit too slowly).

Aside from that, the graphics are adorable and fit perfectly and the music fit the mood of the game, was never too intrusive, and enjoyed listening to it the entire time ^^ Really liked playing this one.

[JJJ] - Jolly Jail Jumper by AwesomeAlliterationAlliance 2015-12-28T07:09:00

So, so impressed by this! Probably the most fun I've had with an LD game so far, and will definitely come back to this one later :D (have not yet finished playing all the levels - but I certainly plan to)

I adore the art, great job to everyone!

The Tie Game by Dejvo 2015-12-27T09:28:00

Fits the theme perfectly, and it's a rather funny interpretation of it ^^ Physics were a bit odd... but it felt kind of intentional, and added a bit of awkward difficulty to it. Not sure if I particularly enjoyed that aspect, but definitely got used to it and overall the game was good (:

FLOW by Romixal 2015-12-28T07:59:00

Excellent use of Sketch Block Bold; the gameplay was a little dull.

keep it growing by arseneauol 2015-12-15T20:00:00

There's no link to the game :(

Garbage Run by Dege 2015-12-15T12:54:00

I could see this being a really great mobile game. Would personally play it to kill time when on the go. Music, graphics, story all mesh really well together and genuinely made me smile. Nice job!

Hyperdemocracy by Dreyan 2015-12-16T13:43:00

Honestly Local Minimum I agree with all those points, there are definitely a lot of things that could have helped the player digest the narrative

animal islands by geckojsc 2016-01-01T23:40:00

Really cute, interesting puzzle game ^^ There does seem to be more strategy involved in the easy mode, as with the regular one, while there is still a bit of strategy, some decisions end up feeling completely random.

Yggshroom by Ghen 2015-12-17T22:18:00

This game is deceptively fun - I feel the graphics weren't super cohesive but event the little beeping sound wasn't actually as annoying as I thought it would be. Really solid entry! Great use of just two buttons

Whack-a-Mouse by Xitavos 2015-12-15T06:46:00

Resfreshing, simple yet fun take on the two button concept, nicely made :) I think next time you could slow down how quickly the difficulty ramps up, this game gets hard fast!

Hello Darkness by jcmonkey 2015-12-15T05:52:00

Enemies reminded me of Kool-Aid man. OOOHH YEAH!!! Well done, puzzle game. Well done.

Don't Stop Drilling by VideoDog 2015-12-16T11:00:00

This game's concept was excellent, with a little more time on the assets this is actually the kind of roguelike experience that would do well to be expanded.

The game of life by Frank_Hiroma 2015-12-25T00:24:00

This was definitely an unexpected gem. I wish there were more to it, but it fits the theme and was rather amusing. The sound was fantastic, and couldn't stop giggling at the absurdity of the whole premise of the game.

Vine Climb by ShadowFoxNixill 2015-12-24T22:51:00

Nice! A lot more fun than I expected, thought out rather well, just difficult enough to be interesting, and the sound effects were a very nice touch! (although when I started the game my headset was a bit loud and the starting noise scared me, hahah) I only wish some of the power ups weren't completely boxed in by the bugs ):

Steve's misfortune by AdamsMcCall 2015-12-15T13:03:00

At first, all I could think was, "Oh brother, am I just going to end up holding down left mouse for the game?" and was incredibly happy when I realized it was a bit of a timing/puzzle game involving the trampoline-like blocks and turnaround ones (excuse my inability to think of better words). Ended up rather fun, and I think it might be cool to see a more refined game with these mechanics (:

As a side note: the human-made sfx for Steve falling from the sky are gold.

Sumo Master : The way of the sushi by KanedaXIII 2015-12-28T09:21:00

Took me a while to understand the combat part of the game (I'm honestly still not sure I've completely gotten the hang of it) but the concept is great and it's a nice use of the themes ^^ Graphics were adorable, the fully animated crowd was a very nice touch :D

Tinder for Dinosaurs by marveus 2015-12-17T05:48:00

Interesting idea, some of the profiles were rather funny. Very creative use of the theme (:

Bankk! Be a Better Bank by ptkfs 2015-12-17T11:28:00

Refreshing interpretation of the theme, and it fits very well ^^ (honestly I'm a bit surprised I haven't come across more games a bit like this one. Rather repetitive after a while, but that's to be expected I suppose. Music is pretty cute, and perfect for this type of game (:

Sentient Sewage by blakeohare 2015-12-15T12:35:00

This is definitely a nice interpretation of the theme! Simple to understand, quite satisfying when you win.

American Excess by lectric.monk 2015-12-17T06:43:00

The feeling this game gave me was very similar to the one I get when Tetris just won't give me that 1x4 block because I really, really need it. Getting stuck with the right arrow on both buttons for 3+ button presses is frustrating as hell.

Regardless, cute game, great humor, simple yet effective use of both themes (: A few odd spots where the character was getting stuck on air and turning around when hitting nothing, but bugs are too be expected. Overall nice job (:

What does Sam do ? by Garazbolg 2015-12-25T09:52:00

Very, very amusing. The audio is both overwhelming and hilarious. It's frustrating how the menus are so sensitive to mouse leaving the newest window (especially since some dialogues are very long, and it's tedious to navigate across. However, very worth it to read through all the different options and see what happens. Made me laugh out loud a few times. ^^

Melissa - A Game of Choice by Imagos Softworks 2015-12-21T03:05:00

That was some really cool acting. Way different than anything I've seen before, and I'm really intrigued by the story.

Dance You Fools! by Beefsports 2015-12-28T08:58:00

Seems like it could be fun with multiple people, although sometimes the length of the round felt a bit long.

Fat Cat: Cosmo's Quest by PickleCrew 2015-12-25T10:00:00

Intro was definitely amusing, audio is nice and fits well with the game. I wish the target sushi didn't change so frequently (or so suddenly without warning - perhaps something like having the image blink before switching out could have made it feel more fair?) as it seems to change often right when you eat one. Got very repetitive after a few tries. Overall quite fun, very enjoyable ^^

Growing an idea by Cluster Parable 2015-12-16T08:41:00

Unable to start the game. ):

Tensions by MadmenProductions 2015-12-16T08:30:00

The needing to install the game was definitely a bit off-putting. I feel like you had the beginning of a good idea, but there wasn't really anything to do...?

Nepeta Cataria by TeamOliphants 2015-12-15T19:58:00

Really enjoyed this :)

Apple Juice Tycoon by felixreeve 2015-12-18T11:36:00

Game is definitely more complex than it appears. Some of the controls felt unnatural, and for me personally that aspect of the game wasn't too enjoyable. However, very nice use of the theme and I was happily surprised by how much I could grow/optimize my little juice business ^^

Stargazer by NuclearCellar 2015-12-17T23:04:00

Loved the core puzzle mechanic - unsure about what was going on in the narrative but I had fun anyway!

Don't Let Your Cat Starve by TeamQuiet 2015-12-17T11:33:00

Took me a few minutes, but the game finally stopped being confusing. Interesting idea, rather amusing.

A Firetree Tale by aeveis 2015-12-17T06:20:00

Really cute game, the controls were comfortable and easy to get the hang of!
