LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

S.I.L. by Skruffye 2015-12-18T06:17:00

I really loved the idea and the concept. I think there is so much potential here, especially with the interesting storytelling you have combined with the compelling game play concept. I hope you keep working on this idea!

Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting the programs to propagate some times. I would be clicking, but unable to get anything to happen. So I basically got stuck unable to progress. But still enjoyed what I got to experience.

Going forward, I think it would be great to make clear how the CPUs, memory, and other aspects of the nodes are important. I wasn't sure why I should select one node or another. This could be handled by a training module that progressively introduces the different concepts of the game.

Fun game! Really enjoyed this one. Good animations and mechanics although a little too challenging. Really liked those phat music beats! :D

RitualCraft by Squid Blink Games 2015-12-21T04:22:00

I really liked the idea and the visuals, but found the game play quite frustrating. I was constantly one or two ingredients short and then I would venture out and either not get what I needed or Cepha'la'goth would take one of the other ingredients for that ritual. So I just found myself venturing out repeatedly and not getting to do much else.

I think it might help to have a smoother on-boarding process where you slowly add new rituals and have a smaller number to focus on and then you can get the specific ingredients you need for those rituals. Maybe a series of different levels that scale in difficulty and complexity over time.

I love this idea and I think its definitely something you could build on to create a great game. I'm not sure if the leveling up was intended to be a 'growing' theme, but incorporating one of the themes more explicitly would have been nice and maybe made for something more interesting.

Right now it is a bit easy and the best strategy seems to be zerg down one lane. But having a smarter AI that can counter and make more interesting decisions would make things more interesting. You could imagine having different opponent types that use different strategies.

Having different types of units and being able to do more with the 'leveling up' might be ways to push this in the future. Maybe you could switch higher level units to different lanes, so you can leverage them in areas where you need them.

Good job! Game looks fantastic. Got cut off on the right side for the most part, but was still able to catch the drift! Great submission for LD34! :D

I really loved the graphics and the models you developed. And the character controlled really well. It controlled so well that I spent the better part of 15 minutes just running around swinging at random enemies. So very nice job on getting that foundation built out.

Obviously there are still a lot of systems missing from the game. That makes it a little less engaging right now, but definitely impressive how much you got done in the time allotted. Could easily build upon what you've got.

I was really impressed by the models and graphics given the time allotted for the jam - and especially for your first jam. The sound was pleasant at first, but as others have stated it got a bit stale over time. Overall, the game has a lot of potential, so great work.

I definitely thought it was a novel use of the theme with the controls, but the way they were implemented was a little wonky. I kept being confused why I couldn't travel beyond the area surrounding the tree, even though the game implies there are objectives to capture and so on. Just seems like a current limitation though.

It was also a bit frustrating when the plants above would block the view. But again, overall, great work.

Rubble Roundup! by nastajus 2015-12-16T04:21:00

I enjoyed the visuals and definitely appreciated the epic dump truck. Took me a little to figure out what was going on and get a sense of where the game is going.

I know its a work in progress for you all, so would love to see where you take it. I like some of the ideas you have in your "remaining to do" list. Especially if you can get the level system working and tie in some more traditional game systems (score, timing, etc).

Slippy Santa by brainybeard 2015-12-19T04:45:00

It was a simple, but enjoyable game. The story also fit well and was just enough to give some humor.

I'm not sure if the difficulty increases over time or I just made that up. But it felt like it did and it felt like it increased at a really well tuned rate. I felt like I was slowly being more and more challenged at the right rate.
