Don't Mess With Totems by winesays 2015-12-15T22:25:00
Awesome. really fun! Is there an ending? In my dreams there's an ending and I can get past totem block #9 :)

This is super great! There's now a competition at our office to make the best manuscript - and what does the "best" mean? I don't know, but I DO know I'm trying to write Sonic the Hedgehog fanfic with these monkey hands!
Absolutely wonderful! Brilliant art, silky smooth gameplay, just all around awesome! Great Job!
This game is absolutely beautiful. The pixel art is awesome! Moving around the dungeon was smooth and worked perfectly on the keyboard.
I see a lot of potential for puzzles, inventories and equipment that this short 2.5 day jam presented. I feel a bit bad for crumbling all those shields. :D
-Kaz
Really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of the game. Collecting fish and watching your school grow was a rewarding experience.
Really fun and engaging. Makes you hone your skills to succeed. My chief complaint is that every single second you split and your path gets altered ~30 degrees. This makes navigating a chore and a lot of unfair deaths in tight corners. Overall still a really solid game!
Yes. This is great. One button moves and the other thinks. Heartbreaking by the end. Wow. Excellent job.
Does the vine ever get to space?
-Alex
Interesting. At the tally at the end, it is more of a reflection of how the player thinks versus getting things right or wrong. That is pretty powerful to see your own moral report card. I have to agree with others that the contrast between the game types is a bit jarring.
Overall cool idea!
Feels like a Tamagotchi with all the guessing what it wants.
I got so big I blew up. Reminds me of the first levels of Spore.
I felt like the hit box on Ni-tsu was a bit wide. I was constantly killed by the ground enemies vs. the flying enemies. Great game overall, wonderful graphics and a very solid mood!
Su[er innovative. I mega wish seeds shipped with this release, along with whatever else Liam could cook up. I look forward to seeing this game grow!
Interesting. The dash really saves the day. The normal movement took too long to accelerate and decelerate thus making difficult for accurate movement.
Great game. The graphics perfectly fit the theme of the entry. The awkward controls made more awkward by using the mouse to hover over was hilarious and put a comical spin on the two button game theme. The best part is the slowdown letting you know you're about to die!
Loved the art. Quite impressed that this was done by a single person. Combat is fluid and the leveling up/skill mechanic was a nice surprise. The death screams are the best part.
Awesome! Imagos's own Vanessa has taken to calling this "the birth control game" while Imagos's own Don has invented the term "scrabbin' points" to describe the act of getting points by evading the daggar triangles of doom.
Awesome entry, and awesome use of the two button theme!
Also, wicked music!
Probably one of the best 2 button control schemes in a strategy title I've seen so far. It felt natural to turn left and right using the push hold/push mechanic. Great job!
Interesting Boss rush game. Wish there was more sound effects though.
Kaz
I was pretty confused as to the story, but the game had mood to spare.
Really great use of the two button mechanic and the puzzles were really well considered.
It crashed/froze a few times, but it was the web player, so I am assumint it was INTERNET PROBLEM XXX or whatever.
Good game!
It was interesting to figure out what to say to him. I like that you cannot repeat the same thing over and over. I got stuck about halfway through though. I ran out of things to compliment him on. "South Park" gave him a huge boost though which was a nice Easter Egg.
The Impulse engines threw me into high orbit and were difficult to get the hang of. After a little practice, maneuvering the satellite became second nature and fun. The music was very fitting for making internet connections from space.
The controls were nice and fluid. It was relaxing to collect the powerups and see my little sprout grow into something more.
Good use of the two button controls. They work really well to steer Santa through the kid infested neighborhoods.
Interesting idea. Makes me want to learn more about DNA to know what I'm doing.
Digging the pixel art, especially the scientist and his little minions jumping up and down. Music was good but the loop was a bit short, I'd love to hear more.
Played live. Pretty innovative idea. I got stuck on the stairs, but watched others do well with no issue. It really encourages team play, with one person directing.
Awesome!
The controls feel a bit wonky especially when you want to go in a single direction but only have enough momentum to spin halfway around thus the next A+S press pushes you in the opposite direction.
Really nice!
The jokes fell flat for me and the narrator's condescending attitude towards collecting the points made me want to stop playing all together.
3786. Fun to play until the end. Gets kind of hectic trying to control your ship at intersections close to the walls.
Not so much a platformer as it is a game of memorization.
Ambitious game. The music is too loud and completely drowned out the store keeper's voice over line.
Interesting idea that boils down to moving a difficult to control arm left and right. A little bit too simple for me.
Great pixel art. Couldn't quite figure out how to match the boss' beat alongside Zoe's mechanic. I found myself focusing on one or the other. Very cool idea though!
Awesome music! Encountered a few bugs with the hook shot staying out or freezing the player at the edges of platforms. Love the art and idea!
Made it through with only one survivor. The lack of control of where the God is makes it difficult to combat the enemies and defend against the rocks. I ended up stomping in frustration a lot during the second stage.
Our team saw this game presented at the SURF jam recently. It looked totally bonkers with all those controllers, and we LOVED seeing it in action. Great job on this game. We hope you build it out further!
Sweet game! I feel a few more unit types, detection types and strategies could flesh this out into a mobile game!
Awesome game Ildfulglen! Thanks for stopping by the stream and letting me play this awesome game! I highly recommend anyone interested in trying this out to play the non web versions. They are the best versions!
One of the best rhythm like game on Ludum Dare. Great music and a lot of fun to hammer out the left right arrows. Challenging until I realized you could mash the keys without penalty. Other than that, a very solid game!
Amazing pixel art. It it so smooth and the details in the animation are gorgeous. Loved the background. Wish there was sound to accompany the awesome visuals.
Enjoyed the strategy element of the game. Extra units, sound and animations could make this into a sweet mobile game!
Fun game. Kept me coming to get a high score. Ended up at 299 points. This game looks like it would be right at home on a mobile platform!
Not super innovative, and the inconsistent clipping made me rage a bit, but the minute I found Christmas mode, ALL WAS BETTER.
Awesome game! Loved the tight controls. The mechanic of dying over time combined with your size was interesting. Definitely caused a conflict of interest for me with trying to max my life but also drain to navigate the harder level sections.
The puns are great. The setting, murder mystery and the amount of detail put into the interface and dialogs is absolutely awesome! The music also help set up the mood perfectly.
But the poor sidekick T-T
The music was awesome. The GoFast mode really feels like the way to go. It is more arcade like and faster paced. Also playing two player modes with one person is also an interesting challenge I think everyone should try!
Interesting idea but the text was difficult to read. Especially when it is sideways.
Interesting game. Sort of difficult to accurately replant over dying flowers.
Hilarious. Flying in space as a politician blowing up various beards and hair styles is absolutely awesome!
Interesting game. Would love to see it when it is finished with additional controls and perhaps some baddies to blow up.
Very interesting mechanic. Really feels like I'm controlling a swarm of little workers and warriors. Major kudos to the raw number of levels included as well as the puzzle variety!
The idea is cool and fits the two button theme perfectly. I felt like the player is on ice though and it was a little disappointing not to be able to drop/pick up items while on the move.
Overall cool idea and rewarding to play.
Interesting game. Reminds me of an easier/simple version of QWOP. Knowing that it was based off a true story gives it an additional layer of humor. Why is he in a mattress store? Why is he eating corn nuts one by one?
It is cool to see your village grow and grow. The multiple mini game setup is also a cool way to get variety into a 2 button game. However, two of the mini games quickly boiled down to holding Z.
Good variety in levels ranging from Bomberman style defeat the enemies to full blown mazes. Wish there was a little more in the music loop and sounds effects though.
Did not expect to slam that baby into the earth. Hilarious. Also the different game types also kept it fresh.
Cool jam game! I figured out that standing in the middle and tapping fire was a path to absolute victory, however!
Press space button. A lot. FLY FOREVER.
Logo splash sounded cool, but the rest sounded ok at best.
-Alex
The controls are a little loose. I ended up missing drops by overshooting more often than not. Cool idea though!
Kaz
Great idea. I feel that a few additional features could help flesh out the strategic gameplay. Things like walls or unique nodes would be cool.
Very cool. The story kept me going and wanting to know more.
The cat to the far left went from being the worst character to the best. <3
Feels a bit too simplified for a deck building game. I know it is restricted to two buttons but I feel that only having two cards makes the gameplay too limited. Interesting idea, I really enjoyed the spacial combat mechanic.
Fun game! Reminds a lot of the Lunar Landing game. The controls were spot on and were very intuitive. The graphics and music also served the product well. Good Job!
The Mystic doesn't look very magical.
-Alex
Finally beat after a many tries. Fun game once you get the hang of slowing down. I highly recommend pausing and listening to the AWESOME music track. Shame that it restarts and you don't hear the whole thing on loop.
Awesome game! I checked it out at the Surf jam party and it was pretty great. Amazing graphics, and wicked sweet sound/music!
Cool idea especially with the different colored ship parts. Definitely needs some more love. Good start!
Those poor wabbits...
-Kaz
Missed opportunities. I like the idea of a moonflower.
-Alex
Interesting game. Would love to see a multiplayer version.
Seeing Snake in the world of Zelda was interesting. Having no end to the snake made navigating the world a bit difficult and eventually lead to perfecting movements vs. exploration.
-Kaz
Absolutely hilarious! Once I figured out that you jam on the button to go hyperspeed, the game became ridiculously awesome! I recommend putting on some Reline OST music and jamming your keyboard into oblivion!
Amazing. The controls feel right at home even when limited to two buttons. The graphics were awesome and were supported by the great ambiance. The only thing I felt like it was missing was boss music...
Fun game for the vertical climbing. I felt like it was always pushing the game forward with the plant growing in the center the whole way through. Wish the music loops were a little longer but considering one person made everything, it is quite impressive.
Interesting idea for two button controls. Grappling hook felt very out of place in the game's world. Could definitely use a restart button. I glitched into a wall and had to quit.
Thank you so much everyone who has played Melissa so far. We are really proud that you've had a good (if not disturbing) time.
Thank you.
@thecatspajamas, that is a wholly valid choice, and one we give you from the start. You chose wisely.
Reminds me exactly of the Simpsons arcade game mini game in between levels but instead of pumping the balloon you are dancing. The idea of the keys changing every time could be fun with 4 players fumbling around but it is lost when playing single player.
Made it to 76. Love the game. Brought me back to playing Lemmings with the little nutrients splattering after falling too far. Their little screams as they dissolved in acid will also haunt me forever...
TicTac
-Alex
Interesting idea. Lots of shoving in our two player match.
Yeah, dude. Pizza! That sword tho.
Impressive for something made so quickly. Keep at it!
Fun game once I read some comments about how to get the throw controls to work. The music was also awesome!
The FOV was way too wide for me and a little disorienting. The graphics were top notch. Really loved the style.
Repetitive.
-Alex
Great use of theme! I was getting pretty jaded that the music wasn't changing, but then a other person at the office played and didn't suck a million, and now I know it has awesome music!
I would love to see this evolve into a full game. The aesthetic is super solid!
Eventually figured out how to play. The world scrolls down one tile every jump. You have a limited time to select where you want to jump next (Illustrated by the timer bar at the top). You have a two tile jump radius. You have to aim one space lower than where you want to go since the level will scroll down.
Interesting. I'd love to play against a friend.
