Oh this is a super cool game. The idea is amazing, but it is a bit confusing to play. But overall WELL DONE.

3d Braid in Vapourwave-land. Shame the level design isn't fleshed out as the visuals are great

Best game of LD38 I played and didn't make

First off, great concept and I love the shaders. I only played through the glitchy artsy version but it was playable enough. The death white noise went through the doors, which felt like a bit of an unfair death since I had no way of seeing it coming. It may have been nice to have a more obvious (no pun intended) signal for when a wall was about to appear in front of me, but I can't fault the approach you took with the monitors changing color.

I got the gun, went down the elevator, and found a code for "A". Then I hunted around but couldn't find anywhere to input the code, so I went back up the elevator and shot a bit at the hearts in the white noise spawner above me. Eventually it stopped spawning white noise, and after exploring for a second I fell off the world. So, might have been nice to (pun intended this time) signal where the player should go a bit more clearly. Maybe you could have added some big fuck-off arrows which would be visible through the colorful fuzziness.

Regardless, I really enjoyed the game. The rewind mechanic worked well both with the obstacles and the theme, and the artstyle was cohesive and compelling. Nice work.

I have now also rated your game.

pta2002 2017-05-01 21:16

The game looks cool, but the mouse sensitivity is way too high for me to do anything, I'm using the linux build.

awpteamoose 2017-05-02 00:59

The aesthetic is awesome. It's a shame you didn't get to do whatever the gun bit was.

Yeah, I agree this is probably best described as a 3d version of Braid. i.e. Time Manipulation with Platforming and some puzzling...

Couldn't complete the game (too much problem on my computer, and im not good at 3d games) but it's certainly one of the best games on this LD.

Sh*t! That's awesome!

pixzleone 2017-05-07 10:27

Woaw I love the shader stuff. It was fun to figure out the puzzles, but I wish I had gotten more things to shoot at. The level design was fun!

Well done! :D

It was so great. I really liked the rewind feature, please make more!

evan-minto 2017-05-10 06:28

Excellent marriage of visual style and mechanics. You use the rewind mechanic in interesting ways, especially considering how simple it is (there's no state that sticks around when you rewind). The glitchy environment and the video effects when pausing/rewinding are great as well, really driving home the idea that you're in a VCR. My only issue is that it was sometimes hard to figure out what I was supposed to do. Maybe a more gradual introduction to the mechanics would work well here. Overall though, this is a really brilliant concept that is well worth fleshing out further. Good job!

yondermore 2017-05-10 17:02

The mechanism is nothing new, but accompanied with the sick aesthetic, the result is simply astonishing.

I want more of it!

julianmh 2017-05-10 17:17

Audio and Graphics are great!

Mechanics are fun and remind me of Braid, I am suprised how well they translate to a 3D enviroment.

Very impressive Game.

namrog84 2017-05-10 17:52

I really like this, overall its super awesome!

kappaix 2017-05-10 18:03

Really cool entry, loved the aesthetic and sound - very strong core mechanical concept as well. The progression was a bit confusing at times, but I feel like that was intentional.

Well done, thanks for sharing!

pikopik 2017-05-10 20:48

cool concept.

nice effects too except for the image ghosting which doesn't help readability.

pragmascript 2017-05-11 13:49

nice concept, nice glitches :)

yves 2017-05-11 18:51

Sick idea/concept. Really refreshing and well made :) Overall a very good entry!

Cheers

This is just so good. The effects are amazing, and the dying mechanic is amazing. It's just so perfect I have nothing to say.

HOW WAS THIS DONE IN 48 HOURS???

One weird thing though is that if you minimize it, it seems to close its self.

100th-coin 2017-05-12 02:27

Super cool concept! Very well made, and I wish there was more.

glitchy-pixel 2017-05-12 02:33

I have to say I just love the VHS (or beta, your pick) Style, realy liked it :).

I managed to get the gun, somehow I wanted to fulfill both things, that is get the gun and finish the level. But of course its not designed that way.

I found out a bug though, if you wait for more than five minutes and then start to rewind it crashes (maybe too much recording :o). But then again, no one would probably wait more than 5 minutes other than me :P.

In any case it was short but oh so sweet. I loved it!

PD: By Voxel... I got it ;)

garethjenkins 2017-05-15 19:32

Hah. Creepy AF. Love it :)

ptsnoop 2017-05-16 19:27

The timey-wimey puzzle mechanics go really well together with the slightly-broken-VCR theme - and I like how the level design gradually introduces you to each of the mechanics. Very nicely done!

dollarone 2017-05-19 02:17

Fantastic idea and execution. The attacking white noise keeps you on your toes. Was fun to explore and figure things out. That shader was worth every second! Love the back-tracking sound and graphic effects. Well done sir
