Good work on your first jam! I would have liked to see the doors look different after they close. Seems that if i closed off all doors to a room i was completely safe.

remicraft 2018-08-15 03:53

@khaotom Thank you for taking the time to play our game! The doors are the same texture as the walls to add to the feeling of being closed in, but I can totally see why that may be confusing/uninteresting. As for the closing all doors to be safe, there is a bug when the Creature is close to you are in the doorway when it closes, the Creature will get stuck. We may pick this game up again in the future and attempt to fix this bug.

This game evokes feelings of dread and terror as you try to escape from the creature pursuing you. The creature is silent, so you never really know if it's getting close unless you turn to look behind you, but then you can't see where you're going. The closing doors leaves you fewer places to escape to over time, and you start to worry whether you'll run into a dead end. And you will, inevitably.

I'm not sure what the use of the flashlight is. I can see pretty well even with it switched off, and as far as I can tell the creature is unaffected by it? Or if it is doing something to the creature, I never noticed.

Thank you! this comment really made my day. We had some issues with the lighting in the game, and as a result it was a bit lighter than we hoped. We may continue to work on the game sometime in the future and we will try to fix this. For now it can be seen as a neat looking graphical thing.

FPS controls felt good and the flashlight effect was on point. I found myself stalking the monster so that I could stay a room or two ahead of him. Nice job!

remicraft 2018-08-17 16:05

Thank you :)

fantasywiz54 2018-08-17 20:45

I'd like to see a visual indication of your battery level. Nice game overall though.

antonsem 2018-08-17 21:03

Is there and end? In any case I failed to find an exit :) Nice mechanic and music is pretty good. The environments are too bright for the flashlight to be useful though.

balance686 2018-08-17 21:33

Very creepy! This is an interesting take on the theme. The dark environment and ominous music really creates a dread filled atmosphere. The flashlight looks good but there isn't really a reason to use it. Might be cool if you could scare the creature away with it (as long it had a battery or something so you had to ration the use). Either that or make the environment dark enough where it would come in handy. Also a loud sound when the creature attacks could be a nice jump scare :P Can you escape the warehouse? I couldn't find a way out. Good submission!

abhis1kadian 2018-08-18 11:19

@remicraft It seems u have opposite take on the theme i.e. we have plenty space to roam about without an incentive and the enemy can't seem to find us, but the visuals and sound are great. Congrats on ur first game jam entry and i say that as a fellow first timer.

remicraft 2018-08-20 02:19

@fantasywiz54 I would have liked to add a visual in the UI, but in the end, time constraints didn't allow for it. Thank you for taking the time to play our game!

remicraft 2018-08-20 02:22

@antonsem It's kind of a "high score" game to see how long you can last. Thank you for the compliments, and I agree about the flashlight. Thank you for checking out our game!

remicraft 2018-08-20 02:24

@balance686 Thank you! The flashlight isn't much use, as the lighting of everything is too bright. Your ideas sound great and we may add them when/if we pick up the project again.

remicraft 2018-08-20 02:28

@abhis1kadian Thank you for the constructive criticism. It would seem there was a bug with the creatures pathfinding. Normally the incentive to run/leave rooms is a creature trying to get to you. We will take this into account when/if we pick up the project in the future.

The game is difficult to download. Google Drive has a "download folder as ZIP" feature but right now using it triggers a "leave site" browser prompt. To actually start the download you have to say yes, leave the site. This is confusing and off-putting. Please consider a better distribution method, at least packaging the game in your own ZIP.

Interesting and creepy game. I got to a room with no more exits and happened to got stuck in it, and the creature didn't seem to chase me either. Love the mood of it~

yetman 2018-08-27 00:41

I downloaded and played this at 2:30 AM without knowing what it was about.... then I realized that maybe I should have waited till the morning

Well actually, the game is creepy but the monster is not scary. I played and died multiple times without being able to see the monster so I decided to not play and just look around for the monster and he didn't look scary tbh (good for me).

The music is nice and has a eerie feeling and the footsteps made me feel stressed (I felt as if the monster will hear me). I think adding some sound to the monster will make the game scarier and will help the player know that the monster is near.

Overall, it is a nice entry and the idea is a great base for a horror game. Good job.

@remicraft Congrats on your first ever game jam, man. I liked your innovative take on the idea but i feel you fell short at the implementation stage of the theme. The graphics are great though. Well done man!!! Please do play and rate our game. Don't forget to leave your feedback.

simogecko 2018-08-27 11:56

damn next time put a screenshot so I know what I'm getting into! game was interesting, the creature definitely scared me! It just wasn't obvious what was the goal in the beginning, and maybe adding an effect for feedback when picking up an item would improve the game. otherwise great work for your first entry!

saoi-games 2018-08-29 07:56

I don't know if I found a glitch, or it was as intended, but on a few occasions, I found myself in a room with no doors, just brick walls. I would walk around the room looking for a way out, and if I stood perpendicular to where I thought an entry should be, there would sometimes be a door.

I stayed in one of these rooms for about 10 minutes on the clock and waited to see if the cat thing would come into the room, but it did not.

I wanted to report this in case this is a bug of which you are not aware.

I didn't determine what the goal of the experience was. I outran the cat, but it didn't seem like there was a set time which would end the game. I walked around and tried to pick up objects but when I walked over things I got no confirmation that I'd picked an item up. I expected to press a key to pick it up or hear a sound when it was collected. I also would have liked a confirmation to appear on the screen to communicate what item was picked up, and maybe give me a clue as to why I wanted to pick it up in the first place.

What is the goal of this experience?

Is there something I need to find to complete the experience, or is it just a time attack for how long you can last running away from the cat thing?

Thank you for sharing your game.

samusoidal 2018-09-02 00:02

That was interesting. It was a very unique implementation of the theme, if not interpretation, and the audio really helped set the mood and make the game scary to play. The graphics seemed inconsistent and unpolished though, and the lack of HUD made it difficult to know the items I had picked up or how far I was from the Creature.

Like @saoi-games said above, I got stuck in a room with no doors. I did figure out that the key allows me to escape from those rooms, but I had to feel along the walls to get to one, since they blended with the walls so well. I'm also not sure how we can win or lose, since the Creature doesn't seem to speed up and the timer never ends?

Overall it was a solid title and you should be proud of your efforts! I gave it a 2.5/5.
