I didn't figure out if that's a trashcan or a flower pot, but it looks like you can move with it in the desert. Movement is kinda slow, but at least the direction is indicated with nice effects. I couldnt get too far in the progress before getting in middle of long desert which looked like it would never stop.

I saw your blog post and was intrigued by driving a succulent, therefore I tried your game first! The idea of driving around an environment and growing yourself to then plant yourself somewhere is kinda nice, however I feel like the game lacked a little bit. It simply got kind of repetitive, even though I would have liked to know what happens when you pot all succulents. :D You did a great job on the graphics, I really liked the appearance of the rocks, the pillars and the succulent. Keep it up!

As a concept? Love it! As a game? no, it really needs some major polish

Graphics are pretty good Mood/Fun are pretty nonexistent

Nice try, though! Don't let this discourage you, game jams are tough!

Not a bad idea, rather a idea badly done. Needs some music to give it some mood, pretty buggy, and has no instructions/help. But overall has nice graphics.A 4 from me.

I had no idea what i was doing but Ive always wanted to drive a succulent!

Love the visuals! The animation of the movement, the growing plant, the way it waves around when moving. Great stuff.

One suggestion would be to indicate where the cloud is. The rain could leave a trail of water (by darkening the sand, making it seem wet). This adds some realism AND helps the player see where exactly to stand. Just like how Mario64 has a shadow below Mario to let the player know where he's going to land.

I also like how the game doesn't tell you where to go, but the world has conveniently shaped holes in different spots which are exactly the size of the pot. Tells the player what to do without a wall of text.

One con: The theme is not really on point. Maybe it's me, but to have a platformer/farming sim, you probably need to have more farming and sim elements. At this state, it's an explorative platformer with cute succulents.

All in all, enjoyable experience. Made me remember my poor succulent that died 2 days after I bought it

As others have pointed out, there is not that much game here. However, it still felt really good to just explore the desert - there is definitely fun to be had!

It is a fun game. The idea of driving a flower pot is so cool. We make a cinematic game with pixel art. Mind to check our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/daxua

I feel like I am just not getting something. Like, is the idea of driving a succulent a meme or something? The game seems to have a lot of heart, a lot of flare and a lot of character but... how are the genres incompatible? It seems to just be a platformer with some transformative elements, a mechanic that is not foreign to platformers. I really want to say that I loved and enjoyed the game cause it seems to be there but I must be missing something.

Interesting concept, but would love to see something more done with this other than the zen aspect of decorating the desert with the succulents. You mentioned on stream the you don't like the rules that you have to bring into games, and this definitely shows that, allowing the player to basically just explore. Nothing wrong with that.

foolmoron 2018-04-25 17:27

The exploration is weirdly compelling and the synthwavey graphics fit with the surreal concept (especially the short shadow rendering). I wish gravity was slightly higher so making big jumps felt more impressive.

Nice graphics and concept. With some more polish, camera controls, and good music, this could be a cool meditative experience.

Hello fellow desert drifting game! I'm jealous of your particle effects and wiggly plant! Some really nice atmospheric effects there

tim-ruswick 2018-05-05 04:28

I love the art, its really great!!!

jezzamon 2018-05-10 05:36

Haha this is sweet! I liked the pyramid :) A shame there's no sound though, it would've made a big difference.

uvwar 2018-05-12 00:20

@Jezzamon I'm working on sound for a post-jam version, so prepare yourself!!

I love the concept, but it looked better in my head though, I wish the world wasn't flat so I could surf some sand dunes as these handsome plants!
