Great presentation.

machocodes 2017-12-05 03:38

This was our idea at first tbh lol

But ours turned into this https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/$56139

*seemless plug* lol

I can't play the game. The zip files are corrupt or have something missing I think.

.

witylernn 2017-12-05 03:43

@SurprisinglyShockedCat Yeah, its a bug with the latest version of unity. If you use winrar or 7zip instead of normal windows extractor it opens up fine :( sorry

surprisinglyshockedcat 2017-12-05 03:46

Yeah... I did use WinRar. I opened it up and could see the file structure of the Zip file, but when I extract even WinRar doesn't like it.

witylernn 2017-12-05 03:52

@SurprisinglyShockedCat I reuploaded the file on itch.io, try again!

Firstly, I would like to say that I believe the author to be an expert in political theory. In no game before have I found such subliminal clues into the true nature of how we operate as a society. Needy Greedy Pirates in its most basic form is a testament to the failures of socialism. In this game, the wealthier you become, the more socialists (represented by the pirate thieves) try to steal your treasure (Hard earned income). The pirates will attempt to steal the treasure and return it to the public market(They keep it for themselves). If you do not allow the pirates to take what they want, they will attempt to seize it by force. The game beautifully demonstrates the futility of hard work in a system that is designed to reward the player for doing nothing. Trying to help yourself will ultimately lead to your death and the collapse of the market every time. It's pleasing to see a game that is just as pretty on the inside as it is on its outside. These hidden messages are just as thought provoking as they are inspiring and they will challenge the way you think of our whole economic system. 5/5

Great game! Certainly worth the mucking about with zip files.

solluxx 2017-12-05 04:16

Fun, fantastic graphics, no bugs. Felt very well put together. Would have been cool to see different enemies. Great work guys.

witylernn 2017-12-05 04:19

@solluxx that means alot! Thanks for the critique

evil-as-shit 2017-12-05 04:27

Very nice! Great graphics, good sound. Wish I could just whack the enemies with my sword instead of using the button. But all around great use of the theme. Good job!

draperdanman 2017-12-05 05:44

This was really fun! I couldn't help but laugh when the other pirates come in see you're on the other side of the screen, then proceed to steal loot. It was hard to tell if my sword was doing damage, so I tended to prefer the pistol. The aesthetic was consistent and meshed well with the games core loop. Great work!

willisika 2017-12-05 08:35

Great visuals! I love the character art! The sword could use a swing or poke animation to give some feedback for the player, but otherwise 5/5.

rad4th 2017-12-05 12:52

I enjoyed the game! As @willisika said an animation on the sword would be nice. Good job :beers:

wolfo 2017-12-05 13:16

The game became repetitive pretty quickly, sadly, although I could see the theme in the slowness of your character when dragging gold. More attention should have been paid to details such as bullets, attack animations, and enemy variety.

The gameplay was pretty solid though, with a little bit more variety this would have been a lot more fun.

witylernn 2017-12-05 14:48

@Wolfo @Willisika @Rad4th Thank you all for your critique and taking the time to try it out! We really appreciate it!

nopogo 2017-12-05 15:14

Liked the theme and the visuals. Only thing i would like is a sword swing when enemies aren't close enough, because in the beginning i had the feeling mousecontrols weren't working

witylernn 2017-12-05 15:55

@nopogo that seems to be a reoccurring theme in the comments. After LD I think we will make a patch with your guys' input. Thanks for playing!

beebo-studios 2017-12-05 17:06

I really liked it! My only gripe is that it starts out really slow. Could get harder earlier.

beebo-studios 2017-12-05 17:06

I accidentally posted this twice. Is there a way to delete posts?

sundaefactory 2017-12-05 17:59

Nice idea. I think it could be better with less inertia on character movement. I was pleasantly surprised with some details, like a pirate taking an item previously dropped by another one !

witylernn 2017-12-05 18:03

@Beebo-Studios Nope! You just have to live with your mistake! Joking aside I really appreciate you playing it!

@sundaefactory Thank you for the critique! also thanks for trying it out!

luther 2017-12-05 19:30

Graphics are really nice and the sound is very good. The sword seemed way more useful than the gun. Also one little problem you can just walk out of the screen.

taldius 2017-12-05 19:36

I really like the art and the game plays well. I think the only major problem is the lack of feedback on the sword attack. Anyway, good job, my score is 5416.

witylernn 2017-12-05 20:10

@Luther Thanks for playing! I think the gun is super useful early on to pick off the one or twos that come, but late, its all about that blade! and yep... 100 percent neglected to put an edge collider at the edges of the play area. doh!

@Taldius Thanks for playing man! I really appreciate the feedback. We will definetly work out something for the sword

badly-drawn-rod 2017-12-05 20:20

I liked the look of this very much, and the controls were spot on. The only thing that I found awkward was spotting the mouse cursor as it was a little on the small side. If you were to make a Torchlight style game with this look and feel then I would most definitely play it.

witylernn 2017-12-05 20:28

@badly-drawn-rod Thanks for playing the game! I think i didn't set the cursor to be rendered by windows... If I would have, it would of retained the same size as the one of your desktop. I'll be sure to fix this in the future! Thanks!

cklidify 2017-12-05 20:34

Great visuals and nice sounds. Game felt really polished!

goplite 2017-12-05 21:01

Great game, funny how pirates running all over place, stealing everything, only wish gold hoard to increase/decreasse in size, this would make game perfect.

witylernn 2017-12-05 21:22

@CKlidify Thanks for playing your words truly mean a lot!

@Goplite Thanks for trying our game! It means the world to us! We will be sure to implement this if we continue to develop!

rubixalchemist 2017-12-05 23:17

Fun game! Really liked the art!

crowno 2017-12-06 08:11

I really like the game's concept, the visual department compliments that very well. It is fun to watch those damn filthy pirates trying to steal your treasure and run away.

Had a hard time trying to figure out the sword before realizing it needs to be touching an enemy when you click, so an animation for the sword swinging would be very welcome. Being able to reflect shots is very cool, though.

I also found a bit hard to shoot since your bullets are very small. The reload time makes you want to use the gun in very close proximity to not waste a shot, which makes the gun feel a bit unreliable.

Overall I really liked it, with some extra time I can see that potential being even more explored. Great job!

trackless 2017-12-06 14:41

Great job, I liked the graphics and the mechanics in general, I was just confused by the use of the sword.

Continue development, if possible, the game is promising.

Congratulations on the excellent game.

witylernn 2017-12-06 15:10

@Rubixalchemist That means a lot! Thanks man!

@crowno Thank you for playing! We will for sure make an improvement to the sword animations. And thank you for the suggestion on the bullets we will definitely look at options to make them more visible

@Trackless Thank you for playing, man I am really glad you liked it. We will for sure make improvements on sword play!

themadstrauss 2017-12-06 19:16

Lovely. Very cute.

And the most important. Very fun.

The only thing I can say about the game is that sometimes I had minor problems attacking with the sword.. But that is all. I loved all the rest. I enjoyed a lot increasing my money thanks to those greedy thieves hahaha

fluidvolt 2017-12-06 21:33

Graphics are fantastic. Gameplay is simple yet fun -- especially satisfying when you line up a good shot from your pistol. At first I wanted it to be an instantly traveling bullet but!I grew to like the contrast between the sword and pistol. Good work.

west 2017-12-07 22:03

this really reminds me of my childhood playing super mario 64 one thing i would've liked is that you'd have to gather the first few apples and than carry them towards your backpack kinda how mario walked with the bomb in his hands =P

great game

flip120 2017-12-08 15:47

I like the art, the theme fit well decreasing the speed while more gold is dragged and gameplay is fun but it would be great to have more variety. Good job!

mahalis 2017-12-10 01:54

This is fun, and the art's really charming. It would've been nice to have some way to recover health, but it works well as-is. Great job!

lazard 2017-12-11 15:39

Really fun gameplay ! Had lots of fun playing it, the music is nice and the pixel art is neat ! One of the best game I played on this jam ;)

shivur 2017-12-14 21:18

Very fun game and beautiful graphics.

2017-12-19 20:54

Simple, well made game with great graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dENfZnM6OQM
