I love the idea of this! Is there any way to export for OSX? The art and concept are super interesting and I'd really like to check it out!

pavel-smejkal 2017-12-05 15:09

Really cool idea! The gameplay is interesting. I just got really unlucky and did not get any shields and potions for a long time :D

Fine work! :)

Lol "i like the little text message, that made me laugh". Your art style drove me to try it out. Gave me that feeling of playing Adventure Quest, good times.

Really great feel of being responsible for handing the right stuff! Gameplay is also surprisingly fun. At first I was confused by the "conveyor belt" at the bottom regarding the theme of this game, but I figured it is supposed to be you sorting through all the stuff in your backpack? Or is it random loot lying about? Since the game can be quite hectic, it is hard to read through the stats and notes on the right side of the screen while playing. But well, having a more tactical approach would be a completely different game and I like this version very much!

Nice game! Really liked it, its a different idea i think it's pretty original :) I only missed a bit of feed on attack turns but really liked. Really loved the paper effect on all graphics :D

ponchoguy 2017-12-05 18:47

Absoulte gem of a game! A pleasure to play!

Just wish that collecting the gold could have effected more e.g Upgrading Conveyor Speed / Hotbuying items such as potions and shields

Plays well, graphics are hilarious and fit the mood of the game brilliantly!

Cheers!

Haha, my favourite game so far. Well done! :)

zax 2017-12-05 19:34

cool puzzels i like it don't forget to check out my game too :)

ziamor 2017-12-05 19:35

I really dig the art style, sort of a cut out of paper look. Also sorry for letting you down Sir Münchhausen!

rasabi 2017-12-05 19:45

Really enjoyed this. The style and mechanics felt very fresh. I think the balance is a little hit or miss, but it didn't detract too much from the experience.

badly-drawn-rod 2017-12-05 20:07

The mechanic is reminiscent of one of the phases in Plants vs Zombies, which is no bad thing. I thought the graphics were great and the descriptions were amusing.

anaconda-games 2017-12-05 20:09

I really like the idea and the art, I had a lot of fun playing it but I had an issue where item where going offscreen i could se just like a quarter of them not breaking the game but just to let you know to fix it

v-ad 2017-12-05 20:18

Good game. Very intresting game mechanics. Nice graphics an sound.

shivur 2017-12-05 21:14

Good gameplay!

fractalsunrise 2017-12-05 22:25

I really enjoyed this; I feel like it would play very well on a tablet. The graphics were good and the contrasting item colors really helped you know what was available quickly.

I didn't realize that I could use the holding area at first. That adds a nice dimension to the game, though I often spent too much time trying to save good-looking items and not enough time giving them to poor Sir Münchhausen. I really wanted to give him the gold sword; it took me a minute to remember that it was treasure and not a usable item.

I love the title you picked; it's my favorite game title of LD40 so far! Thanks for making the game!

chipmonkey 2017-12-06 00:13

One of the coolest games I've seen so far in terms of gameplay and creativity. Unique and fun! The art is pretty cool too. Overall you did a great job. Hard to find things to critique really.

durrsly 2017-12-06 05:22

The artwork is really charming!

stateoff 2017-12-06 06:01

That's a really fun game. Nice job. Thanks for the tutorial screen, that helped a lot.

royoyo 2017-12-06 13:28

I guess that was idea for "You're not the main character" ;)

Anyways, it looks fun and really greed restrictive. Good Job! :)

amigopadilha 2017-12-06 14:03

Awesome game! Played it for a long time =) Really liked the idea, great job. It would be really fun if you coul use the treasure in a shop between the levels =)

2017-12-06 15:15

oh congratulation! Nice art! Can I follow it also on indiexpo? Do you have also a page there? This looks great! Good luck!! I will hope to make a video about it!

magnega 2017-12-06 16:24

@amigopadilha I originally wanted to have the treasure work that way, but you know how it is, 3 days deadline :) Didn't really have time to implement shops, so we opted for the current solution.

@roy87 I'm not familiar with indiexpo, I'll look into it!

bonelazy 2017-12-06 16:59

This is an amazing game! I just didn't want it to end. The cutout paper graphic style is amazing, the idea is great, and this could be expanded into something awesome. Very well done! My only complaint might be the UI menu and box art, but that is just me nitpicking. Very well done! :)

andreas-ragen-ayal 2017-12-06 20:57

As most of the people commenting, I love this game. Well, actually I love the idea, but I don't personally enjoy this type of game.

The graphics were cool and seemed to fit, despite being rather simple. And I totally get how this fits with the theme.

The knight's stats at the top left of the screen are a little difficult to notice, especially as most of the player's attention is at the bottom and th middle, looking at what to grab and thinking of what next to give to the knight. I barely had time to look at the descriptions!

But still. Excellent execution, well done!

jamioflan 2017-12-06 21:12

This was fun, but given a lack of score at the end, I didn't really see any reason to hold on to treasure

hakita 2017-12-06 21:32

@jamioflan The ending screen tells you how much gold you've collected, meaning whatever gold the boss drops + whatever you have in your inventory and also includes a quote from Sir Münchhausen about the amount of gold you may or may not have gathered.

** Hello there! **

The main reason why I tried it out was the title (our submission is a game called "Squire") but I'm really glad I did. I will focus on a few aspects of it.

** Theme **

It's not super obvious how this fits the theme, I would say that our game have a similar problem. I guess it's like - More choices makes it worse ' or ' More items in bag, harder to fit more items '. That said, I think the theme is something that should inspire people to make great game rather than restrict.

** Graphics **

I think it was very clever how you made it look alive with very simple means like the hero walk animation, and the paper feel worked really good with that. The change of scenery added some variation and that was a nice touch. I think some of the enemies did a good job expressing what kind of attack they did, Like the posion muchroom in the start. Others were less obvious like the burning skull that did magic damage. Like someone else mentioned, it was hard to have time to read, which made me take decisions based on what was expected from the looks of the enemy, instead of the text. I also got fooled by the golden sword by the way :)

** Gameplay **

On this, I'll give you one of best compliments I can think of. I was fun! Probably one of the hardest things to achieve in my opition. Alot of things could be improved of cource. Items with permanent effects while in bag sounds very exciting as a part of the core mechanism. I think that would be enough to build something great. I found that the pace was to high for me to try to rotate and fit items perfectly, so I would not mind cutting some of that or move towards a more strategic game.

** Verdict **

Squire! Where's My Sword?! is a fun, clever game with potential. Would like to see more of it in the future

skyward 2017-12-08 04:41

It doesn't work for me, or maybe I'm doing something wrong? I drag a sword into his inventory and he doesn't attack the enemies, nothing happens when I put stuff in his inventory from the conveyor belt...

hakita 2017-12-08 06:06

@skyward The inventory is just for holding items, when you want him to use one you have to drag that item onto the character himself

skyward 2017-12-08 16:08

@hakita oohhh, I don't remember reading that anywhere... Thanks.

pelafro 2017-12-11 19:21

Really funny and inspired. More feedback to help you defend yourself would certanly improve it.

piscythe 2017-12-14 02:42

A really fun take on inventory management. Fast-paced, challenging, and visually appealing. It took me a while to get the hang of it, and I died more than once against the final boss. As such, I felt rather accomplished at the end of the adventure even though the good ~~Baron~~ Sir Münchhausen obviously did most of the work. The music was nice and fitting, and I like the cutout art style. The randomness did get a little frustrating at times - such as when a slime shows up and the player has no daggers or blunt weapons, but the enemy and item variety adds substantial depth. Good job!
