Nice but kind of short. Maybe ability to try to disobey orders and reactions or results of that could have made it more interesting.

angelbait 2018-04-24 01:32

I was expecting chess with narrative and instead I got a narrative about chess. I love this, I wish the music started at the main menu is was so good. Thanks for the game!

jlv 2018-04-24 01:34

@Unentokku Thanks for the feedback ! Yeah there might be fun to be had with the commander in a "Stanley" fashion...

jlv 2018-04-24 01:35

@Angelbait Glad you enjoyed it !

mmason 2018-04-24 02:34

this surprised me, these are truly incompatible genres but you made it work!

sandy-marcius 2018-04-24 09:48

It's the most crazy mix of genres!)))

marsepstein 2018-04-24 15:19

Nice!! I think this is a great MVP version of the full game. Good visuals and sound to match the interesting mashup theme. The narrative was funny, and I generally enjoyed how the mechanics worked. Though I did wish I got to have some say in where I went, but I get this was made in a weekend! :)

mordokay 2018-04-25 00:05

The blood! The gore! The smell of death on a battlefield! Loved the story and I have to say it ... this is some quality storytelling right here! This is such a unique mix of themes that I wouldn't know how to start describing what type of game this is. It was fun while it lasted. Good job!

benhumphries 2018-04-25 01:16

Great story! Definitely unique!

beebo-studios 2018-04-25 01:18

Sadly, this is more story than game right now, but the idea is amazing and unique! It would have been perfect if there were some branching movements decisions so the chess simulation aspect gets to shine even more. I would love to play that game! Also, the graphics do their job really well and the song is outstanding! Great job! Have a fish! 🐟

This was a fantastic little experience! I wasn't ready to play chess, but the visual novel take on it was great! I'd give it a 6 for humor if I could!

seurimas 2018-04-25 01:35

Remarkably cute story and a great choice of genres. Seriously top-notch :v:

hhsaez 2018-04-25 01:49

I like the writing the humor. It's true that it's short, but I did enjoy it. Maybe you could enhance it with a "choose your own adventure" kind of gameplay, depending on whether the player decides to follow orders or not.

Great job!

drskort 2018-04-25 15:06

Really great game about a chess game. Didn't expect that and It was really great.

arqcenick 2018-04-25 15:10

I don't know what to say, you got plenty of perfects scores from me. It's short but this is a jam game so, your proof of concept was incredible. It can even be generalized into a full story. Near perfection!

walkdigidong 2018-04-25 16:32

Haha, interesting one. I think, it needs anime characters in the dialogues :D

articulated9 2018-04-25 16:34

I really enjoyed the idea, and would like to see it expanded on. Maybe add a branch to the story with a different outcome, or dialogue between the characters between matches?

Either way I'd like to see a bigger, more fleshed out version of this - you have a talent for writing!

bobgar 2018-04-25 16:39

Definitely funny. Good job!

autumnotopia 2018-04-25 16:44

Haha I like the combination concept a lot. The execution was also really good and polished!

treeboater 2018-04-26 09:01

Excellent game, polished, smooth, and entertaining. Only issue is that it was short.

yahialds 2018-04-26 14:17

I loved the Idea, when I finished it I just wanted MORE. Nice mixing and nice narrative, the beggining had an undertale vibe to it that made me eager to play it.

Just wish it was longer, but great job :)

sam-machell 2018-04-26 14:54

really enjoyed it! i love the idea of following orders as well that feels like a really interesting consequence of the visual novel formula. beautiful writing as well, really got a sense of the characters

jheysonlima 2018-04-26 15:07

good writing, I just miss the game play elements, I mean, I see it more as a story than a game, but a good and well told story for sure, good job

nehvis 2018-04-26 15:14

This was more entertaining than I thought it would be :D

captainpilot 2018-04-26 19:48

Short...sweet....awesome. Great job man. Loved this little thing.

goat-toaster-games 2018-04-27 02:18

This was absolutely brilliant. I loved this, it was so funny and enjoyable and a great take on the theme. Well done!

adsilcott 2018-04-27 13:49

I really enjoyed this, great story! The idea of playing a game where you only control one chess piece is interesting, although in this one you don't actually control it. Since there's only a few options for one pawn during this game, it would be interesting to do a branching story where you can make any valid move. Anyway, just a thought. Great work!

pepejson 2018-04-27 14:29

Intresting story, sad I was killed :( I wonder what would happen if you implement ability to disobey, how story would go ;)

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-04-27 23:38

Good job! Cool game!

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I really enjoyed this. Great job! It was really funny and clever!

sundancekid 2018-04-28 21:23

This is easily one of my favorite games I've played in this LD, and as a chess player I enjoyed it much more. This is awesome, you chose a brilliant game between two legends that I personally hadn't looked at before, Larsen-Spassky. A great way to show off a great game; I would love to see this done with other historical or neat chess games. The music really fit the feel of the game, and the writing was great too! Very well done :) I see what others have said about maybe having the choice to disobey, but I feel like that would deviate from the purpose of showing off an actual game played by top players. If combined with some analysis, this would be a great way to teach kids learning chess about games from the past.

joemid 2018-04-29 19:44

Ha! Great little game! Full of drama and intrigue. Easy to jump into and play. Great to see something made with Godot. I love that this is kind of a docudrama as well. Thanks so much for the game!

arch 2018-05-01 02:15

Excellent set of incompatible genres. I was about to settle in to play chess. My brain was plesantly surprised to get a well written chess-based story instead. I dig the retro computer chess graphics too, good choice.

siuler-lm 2018-05-06 09:01

Great chess-visual novel! Maybe it's a good way for teaching Chess ;)

jedeen 2018-05-14 23:27

This is succinct, enjoyable, and clever. Great work!
