Neat! That's a clever genre combining. At first I thought the game was too easy, but actually it makes the game more enjoyable. Sometimes I was confuse when switching tools. Maybe there's too many of them, or maybe you could display them in a column so you can see what tool comes next. I really enjoyed playing it overall!
This is a really clever combination! It took me a second to understand what was going on but once I did, I fell in love. I would love to see a bigger fleshed out version of this!

Hey i really liked the gifs from twitter and couldnt wait to play :)
So ill share my critique, first i love pico8 games theyre really neat. I got to level 5 and stopped at that. The main reason is that the paddle really doesnt do much control whise, it only acts as a platform to not lose hp but you cant redirect the ball which makes the experience underwhelming. At that point it was mostly about the tools but even then you couldnt do much since the ball was moving slowly.
I still liked it tho and things that couldve been interesting being able to attain ball effects that change the speed, size, etc for a few seconds. Maybe different upgrades you can choose to buy with the ingame money to speed up earning money or make it possible to earn a lot money.
Some other things i want to mention: - ball gets stuck in paddle when you touch it with the paddles left side, sometimes the ball would constantly collide with the paddle or glitch out and still keep downwards momentum - the ball doesnt properly collide with the black outside wall or collides half inside of the ball - the paddle can infinitely go into a direction out of screen - when not having started the game you can switch tools which still affects the ground even though the ball isnt moving yet
keep it up tho fun concept :v:
I’m not sure if you were able to see it, but I played your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.
I like the pico 8 art style and simplicity of the game. At first I didn't quite understand what I needed to do, but I'd seen gifs of your game so I thought I'd try planting some seeds then watering them. I'm not sure I used all the tools, but I got far enough to complete level 1. This is something that I might visit again.
I did wish the paddle gave more control over the ball. I kept trying to angle the ball into specific areas, but it seemed like it didn't mater if I cushioned the ball gently or quickly moved underneath. Both seemed to react the same.
I noticed a few bugs. I can move my paddle very far off the screen and when I try to return it I have to hold down as long I did to move the paddle off screen just to get it to return. There should be a feature that check if the paddle is complete out of frame and if I press in the opposite direction the paddle should immediately start emerging onto the screen.
At the end of the level is says to press X to continue, but in fact you need to press c. I was playing the web version if that helps you track down the bug.
You can bounce the ball under the paddle and it will still move up as if it was safe.
Despite the bugs this was an overall Good Game. Thank you for sharing.
Whoa, awesome. We had the same idea!!
My game is probably more tedious to play. :'( My crops take time to grow after watering them, and they'll wilt if you stop watering. And you'll have to tediously grab a crop and put it in the shipment box to harvest.
Also my "ball" doesn't bounce on tiles. This game is definitely closer to Breakout than mine. It has actual "bricks"!
You also have a bigger farm, and you have rocks, and pick axe!! And you have corns!! Why didn't I think of rocks?
Have you thought of putting seasons and pests on your farm? This game could be developed into something really awesome. Hehehe, I'm thinking of putting rocks on my farm now!!
Like some one else said, I also wish I can control where the ball is going. But having less control makes it more simulation, doesn't it?
Always great to see a PICO-8 game!!
Fun idea, took me a little to figure out I could change my tool DURING game play, but that is on me. I wish it moved a little faster at the start. And side note, is it me or do all the LUA developers love square games? It was fun, thanks for a great entry!

I saw some gifs on Twitter during the weekend and reminded myself I had to play this one.
The take on the theme is very clever, and the implementation really solid. It's easy to think about more types of crops, or powerups that can alter the ball or paddle to change the experience, but the core is here and I think it works great.
The graphics were cute and clear to grasp, and although I'm aware that it's a compo game, I have to say that I missed a bit of music to round it all even more. The sounds alone could end up a bit repetitive.
Amazing work! :)

Not too shabby, I really liked the concept of melding farming with breakout. I would've liked a little more ball control with the paddle though, but other than that and a few physics issues which you've already mentioned I thought it worked pretty well.

Brilliant combination, I could see this being a ton of fun as a more fleshed-out game! I had a lot of difficultly getting the tools I wanted at the right time, I think if there was a separate button for each tool (I know, can't do that in PICO-8), it would make the gameplay a lot more interesting and rewarding.
As you mentioned, physics problems were an issue... missing the traditional physically "round" paddle from breakout meant it was impossible to have any control over where the ball went after hitting the paddle, which left it often going in the same exact patterns, which got boring, if profitable ^_^.

Very cool idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NizAskJCoRk
It's a cool game but it is very tedious. Good game and once my vote goes through you should be at 20 votes!
Good job! Cool game!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.

I reviewed Crash Corps in my last LD compo video : https://youtu.be/mo-pUdQ3lKc?t=376 Feel free to ask for translation (it's in french) and congratulations ! I love Pico-8 games
@Satanos Thanks for playing! I would love a translation because I don't speak French. :)

Here is the translation :
"It's classics like Breakout that inspired "Crash Crops", while adding an agricultural touch! This title, made on the virtual console pico8, which is always something to praise, has nothing is not revolutionary but we must admit that the whole is very easy to play.
As in all games of the genre, with the arrows left and right you control a bar at the bottom of the screen that acts as a racket, on which you will have to bounce a ball, but here it is not a question of simply destroying the blocks that make up the level.
With up and down you will need to select various tools to take care of your field, a pickaxe to destroy the rocks that bother you, a spade, seeds, a watering can and a scythe to harvest.
It will be necessary to switch between these different utensils to sow and maintain your plantations to achieve the money goal that will allow you to move to the next level.
Technically maybe a bit too simple, this title with a low difficulty can be played by everyone !"
Have a nice day :p
