Seems nice, is it possible to run it on a mac ?
@twoshoedlou Thanks for playing! I understand that the name was perhaps a bit too cryptic - it's meant to be a sort of shorthand for "Archaeology Excavation".
@dhim There is not mac support unfortunately. :( Thanks for showing interest, anyway.
This is fantastic. A good mix of tools so you're not just clicking blindly, the art is well done and consistently styled, and I especially appreciate the multiple layers with unique visual and musical themes. Great job!
Nice game. Some times a little hard to understand why you die :P. Music and graphic nice :). Tools are cool. The person at the very beginning looks like a little bee :D :)
Great game. Sometimes hard to understand why you lose health while digging down. I guess I happen to hit a mine? Also sometimes I mistype 4 instead of 3, getting blown up; So my strategy usually is to spend all bombs and then go exploring. Would love to see more background variations with some item depending on the current background. Overall fun, but somewhat missing more content :)
@labete Thanks for playing, I believe the random deaths should be taken care of now. I guess the main character does look a bit like a bee, though it's meant to be a gas mask. :)
@bloodycoin The losing health error was due to fall damage working improperly, it shouldn't be a problem anymore. Thanks for informing about the key placement as well. While making a game, I think it's easy to forget that the controls take time to adjust to for new players, so I'll have to keep that in mind for the future. Also, I definitely agree that the game is missing more content - in the end it turned out to be a bit more flash than substance so to speak. Thank you for playing and rating!
Really fun game ! I liked the different tools to use, the gamfeel is nice. The pixel art is really good and the musics are awesome ! Good job
This is pretty fun! It's pretty repetitve, but I suppose it's just a concept. I think this could be made into something really interesting! Gj!
Fun and interesting concept of archeology! Pretty catchy gameplay. Nice and atmospheric assets and appropriate music.
Some remarks: 1. Automatic digging down is a little confusing. Expectation: something indicates of level from which you automatically dig down. 2. Would be great to see different artifacts on different levels and some usage of found artifacts.
Good job!
I liked switched the tools. The graphics where nice and I liked how it changed when you got to a new floor.
**vv - Heartstrokes - vv**
- Solid base gameplay - Really polished overall - Really adictive gameplay. - Impressed that you achieved clean level generation, **and** the full experience with gameplay, graphs and sounds in 48h
**vv - Improvements - vv**
- Even though the mines are "understandable" from afar, but could be good to have some tutorialization to actually indicate that they exist
= =
So yeah, basically not more to say haha, that's a really solid entry, Bravo for this! I said it above, but even though you "only" have the base gameplay, you have a polished entry and a qualitative overall flow o/ GG
i kinda liked this as like a chill, no enemies, version of spelunky. theres similar planning involved when trying to get the maximum score for a level, but without the anxiety of traps/enemies/ghost/etc. i think whats currently present could be a pretty decent casual mobile/browser type game, but with some more complexity you could have a really interesting game of planning and optimisation also, i really enjoyed the art, the music and sprites were both well used and nice to experience
Very full-featured for a game jam, I certainly enjoyed it. There's something satisfying about drilling and discovering a fresh new cave, and digging and dusting the skulls and other artifacts. Of course with few dangers and not too much in the way of goals it feels a little sandbox-y but I definitely think this could be successful if you do choose to keep working on it. Nice visual design and audio design too, I love all the different color palettes of the caves.
Having all those different mechanics of platformer controls, 4 tools all having their own use / mechanics & also some procedural level generation with different biomes is quite impressive for a compo game. The audio part was also very good with several music themes & sound effects (even if shovel & brush ones are missing) that matched well with the nice pixel art.
For the downsides, biggest issue is the lack of a clear objective or some challenge/threat as the game feels too sandboxy. You could keep going deeper forever atm with no gameplay difference between the first level and the 100th one, and different strategies (ie. cleaning whole level vs rushing) making not much of a difference. The C4 also feel a bit useless as you already have way better tools for digging that are way less risky. A smaller issue is that the auto-drill at the bottom of the level is unexpected at first as it would need some kind of indicator (line or anything) and shouldn't happen upon drilling through the floor of the level rather than just stepping on it.
Overall, a really good compo entry, gg.
A really neat platformer. I think the concept is quite original, and I liked it. THe difference between the drill and the shovel was maybe a bit gimmicky, but I guess it made for a bit of a challenge where there otherwise wouldn't be one. I is unfortunate that the bombs were the worst way to excavate.
The graphics were pretty good. I thought that the sound design was superb for the compo.
Nice game, i quite like art style, and music is good. Im really impressed of amount of work you put into.
