I don't know what I'm not doing properly, but i can't get to the farther asteroids even with upgrades

digitaldude555 2017-08-01 10:27

I feared this would happen I didn't have time to test the gmae, so it seems its not finishable.....damn. Sorry man @quivscor

Possibly just try only upgrading fuel, oxygen depletes a lot slower. Pressing e gives half your oxygen into your fuel tank.

Basing movement on forces (by that I mean that buttons would make you go faster/slow you down in a specyfic direction) would make it feel more like a space game. Idea is nice but I don't see a point for having oxygen and fuel separate. Actually mining space asteroids and looking for boxes is fun :)

A simple and nice game, maybe too simple and repetitive but there's clearly a lot of work put into it. I don't have much time to go far in the game but I liked playing it.

Neat game. I like your take on the theme!

thygrrr 2017-08-01 20:13

This fits the theme spot-on ... oh my. Died stuck in space at least a dozen times before I started writing this.

Well Done: - hand-drawn graphics - music, if simple - upgrade system allows for strategy - decent, accurate mini map that really helps me estimate ranges.

Try differently: - there's no inertia on the character. this can lead to frustrating deaths at an arm's length from the dock :) - Enter and WASD + Mouse button can be hard for people with small hands. Why not cursor keys?

Overall: - enjoyed playing despite the brutal difficulty - could use more "juice"... and by that, I mean... [This Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg)

A nice entry, maybe not my type of a game since I couldn't get that far even though I wanted to, but overall I like the concept and would play it more if there was a lower difficulty mode or something. Even a bit more starting energy would suffice to get beyond the second ring of asteroids. Good job, keep it up!

doomshmuck 2017-08-03 23:37

The graphics were pretty nice looking, and the base of the game is pretty good. I also was not able to get past the first ring of asteroids... I upgraded energy twice, but still ran out of energy before reaching the second ring. Overall that mechanic doesn't feel very fun to me, the energy drain was so fast that it felt like it clashed with the soothing background track, as it felt really urgent to get out, mine, and get back before the energy drain got you. The music track also felt like it needed to be a lot longer, or something, as it got very repetitive very fast.

I really like the concept of bringing the rocks back to the ship after picking them up, and having to slowly work your way out. For me, it was a little too challenging, but I feel like that was just because of the distances. Still, pretty fun!

anglain 2017-08-04 11:30

I like the graphics on this one, and the concept is also pretty nice. But, as @gil4 already said, it just may be not my type of games. Anyways, nice one, good job! :)

 Overall: 4

I made a tweaked version that should be enough to collect the parts with upgrades.

Cute little game, I really like the concept and could easily see an improved version of this becoming a somewhat successful casual game. It is very unforgiving though, it's too easy to run out of your resources and it's very frustrating to die right next to the station. It also doesn't really have that "game feel", by which I mean a lot more visual and audio feedback when something happens in the game, e.g. particles flying out as you mine with some satisfying sound effect when you're done with an asteroid. Also, a parallax scrolling starry background would've made your movement through empty space more obvious. I agree that the background music doesn't really fit the mood, it'd need something much more fast paced to match the gameplay. Nice job on the visuals though!

I think you're already aware of the issues w the jam version so I don't need to mention that. I will say I'm actually impressed you took extra time to make so many different asteroids, that was pretty cool. I did make several attempts to try to win regardless, I do love my mining/upgrade games.

emery 2017-08-05 06:52

I think this was a fun game to play and was a really cool game, I think that, as stated in other comments, the game has a few bugs. but I did find this really enjoyable, and if you keep working on this I can see this being a great game. Good Job :)

nyckos 2017-08-05 14:00

nice little game :)

randomphantom 2017-08-05 14:50

This looks deceivingly simple with the relaxing music but turns out to be a real challenge to play. For me the oxygen tank was depleting really fast, even though I focused on purchased upgrades for it. It also cuts back to restarting the game immediately instead of showing a game over of some sort. Managed 4 out of the 5 items before running out of oxygen.

toonteamj 2017-08-05 14:57

The game was nice, but I couldn't get very far because the ship wouldn't restore my oxygen. Best run was 3/5 parts.

axoona 2017-08-17 21:03

it's a nice relaxing game (well it would be relaxing if it wasn't so difficult to not run out of oxygen on longer excursions ;) I always had a feeling that oxygen was used up quicker on return trip but maybe it's just an impression. so in the end it's a pretty challenging game. I played the compo version and then the tweaked version, but never managed to find the 5th element.

anyway graphics are nice, and the audio fits well the mood (I think it's what gives the game this relaxing tone), it could have been a little longer though if you plan to expand the game, as it gets a bit repetitive after a while.
