I liked the Maze aspect. Music was a little repetitive haha.
Liked the concept, bit similar to what I came up with. :) I couldn't figure out where the finish line is, a map or some sort of indication would have helped but I guess it's part of the experience to have to navigate the maze. A bit of simple car physics would've made it a lot better, like some basic acceleration/breaking and smooth turns because right now it doesn't feel like you're driving a car. Appreciate the effort you put into making a soundtrack as well but the tunes get old pretty fast. :) Not bad game though, keep it up. :)
Thanks for your feedback @johnnyc1423 and @h-attila.
I wanted to keep it simple to get something "playable" at the end of the weekend.
I agree with the others that the music was a bit repetitive. I also have to say that I don't think you can get to the finish with enough energy if you take all the correct paths. It feels like you're punishing the player for going the right way.
I liked it. Every time you tried again you found out some place you could go or another place that was a ddead end. Very minimalistic game. Sound was OK at first but I have to agree that it becomes a lot repetitive over time. Good job!
@stormforce02, I swear that you can reach the finish. But it is true that the "right path" is not the "shortest path" ;)
I didn't manage to win after two tries, I think I have to go buy some "skills". :<
Anyway :p Good job, in 48h you made a playable game with a Win & a lose condition, you made your own sprites, your sounds, code, etc.. :) The sound effects were great, Vroom Vrooming happily in a nice car is always nice.^^ The game played well, I don't think I caught a bug.
A kind of maze as a circuit is an interesting idea.
To add a bit more "variety" to the game, you could add some little things, like an obstacle that crosses the road at some point (oh a bunny, I have to stop my vehicle nooow!) or a booster to make you faster.
The car noises were good, and you seemed to put batteries in good places. There were several times when I was almost out of power and I'd find one just in time, although eventually my luck ran out.
Thanks @stormforce02, @mordokay, @ogma, @badly-drawn-rod for your feedback.
I am writing down all your ideas. I must spend more time composing background music hahaha. Obstacles and boosters are good ideas. Thank you!
Good job for 48 hours! I didn't get any sound. I'm on Linux and Firefox. As is, the game is just a memory game, which is a bit limited. Adding moving obstacles would give more challenge and variety.
Thanks @loveapplegames for your feedback.
I will try to reproduce your problem to see if it is a game bug. Thank you!!!
Old school! It reminds me of a game I created in Delphi 7 many years ago :-)
I find it frustrating that there is no way to find the finish other than drive around, run out of battery and try again. But otherwise good game for 48 hours.
I like it, but the batteries seem a bit too rare.
The idea is nice. It could have been pushed further. eg: adding an arrow to indicate the direction of the next battery. I was expecting to move like in car simulator: up to move and left right to turn.
Thanks @wdebowicz, @smbe19, @willbl3pic and @bombjack for your feedback.
I will give a try to use arrows to indicate direction of "goals" (batteries and/or finish line) in a future version of the game. Thanks @bombjack!!!
The music got very repetitive. It would be a lot better if it looped correctly. The web version at least has a pause between loops. Other than the looping, the music does sound good, it just needs to be longer.
The maze gameplay was interesting, but I feel the maze was a little bit too expansive. Not in the number of roads, but in the length of the straights. It feels like a lot of the time you are just staring at the empty screen, waiting for another turn. More roadside objects could also help this.
Car physics would also improve the game a lot. This kind of movement feels really unnatural for a car, especially if the movement isn't aligned to a grid.
Nice job! Love the sprites and the music (although it didn't loop smoothly), and the cacophony of SFX's made the whole thing complete. Driving felt a bit stiff, and I had no clue where to go.
Overall well done!
Thanks @terracottafrog and @drtizzle for your feedback.
Yes, the music loop issue is in the web version, I will try to fix it in the next version of the game.
An interesting game!
The game mechanics were efficient, and the graphics and sound was fitting.
I liked the maze-based gameplay, but the maze was perhaps a bit too large to support the "trial and error" based mechanics. You end up re-playing the same long stretches of road a lot of times, in order to hit the correct combination of side-paths with batteries to be able to reach the finish line.
>Route-exploration, >through the network of long roads. >Reach the finish line!
