LD33 — You are the Monster

A Crown of My Own by graebor 2015-08-24T19:44:00

I could play your game all day! The soundtrack is so refreshing and the art is really cute.

It's great that you added a tutorial for the cauldron and the workbench.

Plus that you can put anything on your head really cracked me up :D

Brainless Attack by ReddogStone 2015-08-24T20:18:00

Fun game with some pretty cool mechanics. Sometimes it is pretty hard to figure out how to time your spawns. But good work on tuning the cooldowns and shot rates/range, it makes a solid impression!

Also, the music takes you right to the hearth, this would be a perfect game for a lonely evening with you tablet. Kudos :)

Plothole by RedPanda 2015-08-24T16:44:00

Really great art! I like the mood you are creating with the raindrops, street lanterns and this guy desperately smoking his cigarette.
Music and sound effects like barking dogs and splashing rain would really enhance the feeling. The setting is just perfect.

Your game has a lot of potential even if your story isn't set in stone yet. Heck, it doesn't even need to be themed "You are the Monster".
Needless to say, I want more!

D.A.S.H by TagliatL 2015-08-24T18:54:00

Nice mechanics, the downward and upward Dash are really powerful and fun! I like it a lot (maybe due to the effects :P), there is much potential in how versatile the attacks are. And they transition really smooth from one to another.

Maybe you could position the action a bit more to the middle of the screen, I had the urge to always be on the right side.
Also I encountered a bug that I got offscreen to the right if I dashed too far and could not return.

Sucker Punch by Shaw 2015-08-24T15:58:00

All these ships exploding like fireworks above the ocean are really satisfying to hear and watch. I also like how much mind you put to details like the little people sinking. It is totally fun being the monster here, just destroying what crosses your path!

And the soundtrack is very catchy and pirate like which fits the setting really well, good work! :)

Pro Tip: Just hold the left mouse button and wag left and right, don't know if it is intended or not ;)

Grave by uheartbeast 2015-08-24T18:05:00

Wow great and addicting game! Polished art, subtle soundtrack and effects, and simple but great mechanics.

Although it is tough that your dodge does not cancel the attack animation but maybe that is to the benefit of the difficulty of timing you attacks spot on.

That big guy, dude.. great emphasis on the strength of his blows and doing friendly fire. :)

Thursday the 12th : Lake Polygon by bossmojoman 2015-08-24T19:29:00

Great music, adds suspense and gets you right into it! At some point I was worried for myself because I just wanted to catch the next vilager off guard.. their death felt kind of.. satisfying. Good job for making me feel that contradicted!

What you could do better is to take a look at the huge map, it is hard to locate people and to get back at them when you already scared them away.
If you had a chance to pick up your already thrown machete that would be great and a good way to make up for the great distance between you and your target.

That bit about the meting in hell made me chuckle :D Blasted meetings..

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Sort the Court! by graebor 2015-12-15T15:42:00

Beautiful game! It fits both themes really well.
Really cute art and nice soundtrack. It is great to see your town in the background and your pile of gold grow during the process.

I also like the choices you have with a simple yes or no mechanic. It really is addictive and I don't think that I saw every possible encounter which is great for replayability.

IIRC you made a crafting game last LD, it would've been cool to see the monster again :D

Agent Hooker by Phoenix849 2015-12-16T15:29:00

OH YEAH those trumpets! Some levels were really tough but I enjoyed every second of it!
I cringed every time Hooker died unexpectedly, this splash sound is just.. I don't know.. surprising.
Daaaaamn... what a brilliant game!

Personal Valley by Backterria 2015-12-15T19:19:00

Nice graphics and choice of color, it looks super crisp. Also the sound really fits the mood.

The only downside in my opinion are the controls, it is not very intuitive and feels forced to fit the theme.
But overall it is a great piece of art!

Mobsferatu by CremaGames 2015-12-15T13:03:00

I really like the way how the music builds up the higher you get into the tower, that's pretty epic. The gameplay is also really great, it fits both themes so well.

I'm astounded at the overall quality, the little things like the rain sounds, the lighting, the animations of the villagers. What a great game for only 72h time!

I also encountered a bug: when hitting a barrier, turning automatically and then doing a manual turn some villagers split off and returned to their bound state. If I didn't pick them up again they made the damaged sound throughout the game.

I would love to see more levels and a mobile port, you can do it! :)

Slash Quest by Big Green Pillow ft Mgaia 2015-12-15T19:03:00

Wow, this game is so hard once your sword gets too big :D

You really came up with an innovative way to use two buttons for movement.
The art and sound effects are really cute, this easily one of my favourite games this far.

Reforged by salyon 2015-12-15T12:29:00

Really nice piece of art, fits the mood quite well!
Even if there is no sound to accompany the hammerblow or background forge-crackling I am excited what you can accomplish in the future.

The idea is simple but enticing and the setting inside the book is crafty. I am still blown away by the detail of it!

It would be nice if the buttons were also mapped to the keyboard.

Keep up the great work!

Pete and the Beanstalk by SeriousCreeper 2015-12-16T12:54:00

Amazing game! The pacing is good, the art and UI look neat and tidy. The transitions are really smooth.
I catch myself so often not reading the instructions, my first two runs I didn't know that I could catch the flowers... It is really cool way of risk and reward. "Do I want to jump now and be unable to teleport to the other side if a thorn grows near?"
I like the way your Game Over screen comes up in parts and pops up with sound effects, feels good :)

Evilator by Dyn 2015-12-15T20:33:00

Never thought that being an elevator could be that much fun! It's so addictive I don't know why :D

The instructions dont' become clear at the beginning though and the AI won't move out fast enough :P

Fun game!

Plants Attack by Luxorix 2015-12-16T06:55:00

Really cool game. Nice balance of risk-reward through the electricity things, especially in the later phases. It looks so polished and crisp with a smooth transition from starting screen to gameplay and great soundtrack.
I'm impressed! :)

Witchgarden Leafiosa by phi6 2015-12-15T15:11:00

Amazing. Really nice art and sound!

It's a bit hard without the recipe book but I like the whole exploring thing and those click moments when crafting a potion.
"Burr Breaker.. hmm *click* oh yeah this cactus flower to the south!"

Also a bug:
In the southeast there is a mountain path which can be walked into, if you fall down you respawn in the air and can't get onto land. Maybe close the thing?

Cosmo Hopper by PlasterPhantom 2015-12-15T11:55:00

Wow this game is sweet! Really nice polishing and gravity mechanics. The animations and sounds are sooo satisfying.
The ability unlocking phases are kind of overwhelming, because you can unlock so much through one trip and can't really try out your new abilities one at a time.

Also the WebGL Client crashed at the beginning of the tenth mission due to insufficient memory...
Either way, it fits the theme really well, definitely one of my favourites, good job!

Parse The Sky by dustyroom 2015-12-15T14:32:00

Wow, great music and graphics!
It's so much fun to fly around, did you synch the speed of the plane to the beat of the music?
The intro is really smooth. I like the way you can see your own tracks.

The only downside I found was controls. When I was doing barrel rolls and the topside was down I was really confused which button to push to fly upwards. I got the hang of it over time, but yeah.

SEED by sputnik 2015-12-15T21:37:00

Wow! Simply wow! I'm blown away, great level design.
I managed to beat it in 40min, because some levels were just mind bending.
It just looks so neat and nifty and the sound is so satisfying.

One minor thing in the early levels (when they are still easy) is that the plant is growing a little slowly which is slowing down the pace of the game.

Dragonic by jsmars 2015-12-15T17:31:00

I dig the subtle sound effects and music. The art looks beautiful and crisp. It's a nice blend of both themes, good job!

You also got a really good balance through the evolution stages. It's getting harder once you lose a life, I don't know if that's intended or should be the other way around. I also like the abilities you get when evolving, just noticed the higher jump of the second stage.

What's frustrating is that sometimes a bat spawns on the ground and it is impossible to avoid while in egg form.

spin-circle by Modoc73 2015-12-16T07:44:00

Wow! 260 after 3 tries. I like the smooth and minimalistic style. The balance feels just right and the controls are super easy to adapt. Great game :)

Button Simulator 2000 by wilsk 2015-12-16T06:30:00

And I thought I was killing it! Man, great game. I was a bit overwhelmed but nice concept with a catching intro.

Interstellar Cruise by Drauthius 2015-12-16T07:23:00

Cool game, it is kind of addicting to build more and more and see your population grow. The scuttling of the little people has a Settlers 2-ish vibe to them and gives a lot of life to the game. I like it!

The story behind it is really neat, but maybe you could have introduced it in a short sequence at the beginning instead of showing it with an image?
I would have liked a way to cancel my selection but maybe that's the hard part of not knowing what you get and where to place it.

Sickle & Sword by MSiddeek 2015-12-15T16:22:00

Wow! What a really nice blend of narrative and the two themes.
It feels like an Age of Empires with only two buttons and simplistic graphics.

The choice between warriors and farmers really added depth to the decisions you make. If you are unlucky and the warriors are out of position during a snake or wolf attack then you can quickly lose the game.

All in all, you made a really well balanced and paced game with a lot of surprises. I wonder if you could add more elements to it and keep it going forever? Keep it up!

Lawn Mower Fight by WizzardMaker 2015-12-15T13:29:00

Nice game and such a simple idea!
At first I thought I had to eliminate the little lawn mowers to hinder their progress, but at the third collision I suddenly died.. dammit, no Deathmatch! Information about your remaining life aside from the progress bar would be a good idea.

Some of the power-ups are in really hard places, especially in between the stones.

Aside from all that it's a cool game and it would really benefit from some mowing sounds :)

Green Blocks by Flip120 2015-12-16T06:42:00

Nice concept, achieved three platforms and it was hard!
Maybe it was bug but when I achieved a new platform, the new one first rotated and then didn't become still and vibrated which made it a lot harder to stack the blocks.

I wonder what type of person one has to be to keep boxes captive :P

MILK TEETH by Rufson 2015-12-15T14:08:00

Ouch! I didn't want to pull out his teeth but you made me do it, you monster.. Managed 3 Teeth. I could feel his pain, argh.. Now I feel bad.

That aside, it was an interesting experience. Great mood! The way a tooth isn't coming out directly adds a lot to it. Really well done for 5 hours work, I wouldn't want to know how you came up with the idea :P

Raven's Myth by 3rdChance 2015-12-15T13:57:00

Great art and mood! The music and tree sound effects work just great in conjunction to the stage of the game. And the tree looks so amazing in his final form :D

There are some nice suprises in the game, I totally didn't anticipate the melee attack. But the difficulty curve could use some tweaking, it feels a bit edgy sometimes and progression feels slow.

I expected more bass to the lasersound and I would have loved to start the attack (also the melee) myself instead of it being fired automatically. Or simply add a timer so that one knows when it's ready.

Anyway, good job!

Infinitree by h.attila 2015-12-16T07:33:00

2804 points! It's a bit fast at first and tricky that you are clamped to a specific angle, so I crashed into a balloon the first time I wanted to pick up a splitter :D

The splitters are a nice way to manage your hit points, though they sometimes spawn too close to the original branch and negate the effect. Fun game though :)
