Not/Alone by davecheesefish 2011-12-19T13:52:00
The alternating worlds is a good idea, but the simple graphics didn't convey it very well. It is more of an impressive HTML5 demo than a game that has loneliness

Brilliant, however it was rather dull near the end, nothing really changed it was same-styled puzzled. Got a bit confusing with the amount of screen turnings that occurred.
I think it was great, the music was nice and fit well, the gameplay was easy to pick up, hard to master, there are different levels as well so it progresses nicely, and it really captured the mood
Windows version doesn't load, when I have access to a Mac I'll come back and rate this, sorry.
You didn't correctly destroy the graphics when you close the game so you get a "Stopped working" message, use destroy_bitmap(mybitmap); at the end of the run time and make sure every bitmap is destroyed.
The difficulty curve is non-existant, there's no training, it's a shame as it's quite solid, just that it's instantly near-impossible.
The double jump wasn't even hinted at, so I nearly gave up on the first jump until I read that there is a double jump from the comments on this page.
Really is a shame, this could have been very good.
My review is based on the video.
Looks like there's no difficulty curve and based from the video it looks like it didn't capture the theme too well, but the touch screen controls for the land is great idea, very original.
liked Wilson
I can't figure out what to do, do you simply just watch the dudes attack each other? It seemed like just a demonstration video, really really couldn't figure out what to do sorry.
Oh right click to heal, still didn't seem too fun. I changed my score to reflect my new knowledge.
Took me a while to realise you can wall jump, so I was stuck on the 2nd level for a bit.
Then it turned into a standard super meat boy style plat-former, only the difficulty is insane.
I had fun
I press Q and W on open spaces but nothing happens for me?
It would have been nice to have level advancements in the form of short breaks, the problem with the survival forever games is that you need short lullings for the player to rest during
Excellent, I like rogue-likes, but I couldn't really get too far as there were always bears around me to kill me quick.
Love it.
Your game is broken, may need to download it to a test computer to fix it, I tried everything to try and make it work except recompiling the source.
Oh my god, it's so simple, but so so so funny.
I didn't even realise it was notch until they said it was.
Had lots of fun, I don't get why the timer was there (I never died, quit when I got bored), but I was laughing the entire time. The title graphic is priceless.
I couldn't work out how to change back to melee weapon so I died once i ran out of ammo, also couldn't get any money to buy stuff, the upgrading barricades is good. Didn't really fit the theme, alone...with zombies. Not really alone when they are zombies there to hug you
The isometry-2 colour graphics was innovative and fun, but made the judgement of distance difficult, perhaps a 3rd colour for shadowing would have helped?
It wasn't very good, seems like a 20 minute job rather than 2 days?
Graphics and audio worked well, generally it was short, sweet and enjoyable. Don't understand where the saving trees comes into it.
It is a platformer, not much variation, too difficult early on, didn't really pull me in. The vibrant colours didn't help towards the mood or theme.
It was a nice take on the "you-gotta-burn-the-rope" style game, i was confused as to what to do, but when i worked it out it was good.
It was way too short, not so...engrossing. Feels like you did it in a minute in paint and GM.
It was really fun, but one problem, there is infinite jump. I just got my neice to help me win, she would jump i would mash the arrow keys, never needed to use the slide.
Another platformer.
Get the key, get to the door.
The box form is a brilliant idea, loved it, but seemed rather pointless.
Had a bug where the robot went mega, mega fast with movement.
Very nice, the bridge finding was annoying, didn't like that the camera could look up and down but not turn, it was like it was thrown in there just to show off the moon.
I need to say that SDL is a requirement, you need to download all the DLLs and throw them into the game folder for it to work.
Didn't feel alone, it was a good take on the sheep herding style game, but you obviously didn't finish it in time.
It worked for me, but I really didn't get the game, I shot every head, but then what? Didn't seem really intuitive at all.
I don't get why it needed an installer, makes it annoying to run.
The game itself has a concept, but it no variety. Just seemed like a button mash that only works 40% of the time.
I really couldn't figure out how to run it after installing pygame and I don't have the patience, sorry you should research into building it into an executable.
It still generates impossible situations (I had an entire blocked wall with a tiny, tiny, tiny gap in the middle once).
It was okay
It was fun and moody, but it later became too difficult for me to stay interested. It's better than the other 600 generic plat-formers that were submitted.
It was short and easy to play.
I had fun, but there were sections where you get stuck.
Not another one of these zombie shooter games!
I didn't have fun, but I liked the messages at the bottom right.
I love voxel graphics :D
I killed everything on the first level, but nothing happened afterwards?
Very good, spooky and mysterious. Shame it lacks content.
Why are so many games using that damn XNA installer! Get rid of it!
I have no clue what you were supposed to do in this game, lol.
I also get a blank, white screen. Sorry!
The timing needed is frustrating to the point of annoyance and it felt slow. The intro had lots of text which i skipped over, and at the barracks the text was in the way of one of the enemies for me, making it hard to shoot them.
The hit box for the player is too wide, i tried jumping onto a ledge but would hit against the corner and died as the hit box was so wide.
I like it, I didn't actually find it difficult which is good as I usually die within 2 hours on rogue-likes.
The simple game-play does good for it, installing was a pain and running it was too (I'm on Windows), once it was running all was good.
Long intro was very very annoying.
I'm afraid I got the instant game-over bug too, there is also no way to close the program (Tried Alt F4 which works for me with other allegro-made titles), when I did manage to close it I got a "Program Stopped Working" error.
The beeping with each message is very annoying, a bloop would have been easier on the ears.
If you leave the game running in the background for a while the fog disappears, then where ever you walk you always end up to where the broken robot is.
Is the background supposed to be black? In the screen shots above there's tiles drawn, I'm not seeing those when I play?
I'm guessing when I played it it was rather bugged.
A run button would have been nice :D
It was super fun, just like most landing games.
The hand-drawn graphics are a big++, very nicely done.
Sound fits.
Difficulty is a bit too hard, but once mastered it's fine.
Didn't know the fuel metre was for fuel, thought it was health.
When you don't find the story and run out of fuel then you're stuck without being able to do anything, it seems like it was tested very much, ran out of time?
Remember you can hold the Z key down to dash in the direction you're facing.
Ah yes, picking up objects you need to be facing it not on top of it, that is a design over-sight, my bad.
The dash speed should be made faster than, I guess it never bothered me as I knew where I was going as I made the game, I guess that's the effect of 2 day lock-down development, another effect was that I was worried that the item inventory management would be too easy and not enjoyable, but it turns out it worked well so it must have seemed easy and boring to me because I made it, thanks for all the nice comments all.
You can use the lighter to kill the monster, just stand where the possessed painting used to be and attack it with the lighter as it goes past you :)
The dash not being able to turn was intentional, otherwise the player would be stuck holding down the dash key for no reason.
Thanks all, I will from now on double my movement speeds!
I think the biggest issue was that I knew the game, I knew where B was from A so I could move there in no time, but when you're exploring it takes longer, that's what I missed.
The first ghost was supposed to be either a dodge puzzle (Dash left/right while trying to make your way to the top) or a timing puzzle, stand at the side and burn it with your lighter.
It runs at 1 frame every 2 seconds on windows, probably because your timers are incorrect, I liked the idea though.
I found the dialogue to be really immature, the graphics fit, but I wasn't really compelled to keep playing, I started clicking like mad then stopped when I read "Dunny", what the hell is a dunny?
*Looks it up*
Ah it's Australian slang, I stopped playing when I read dunny and saw the porn mag, just thought "This is getting silly, I'm getting no where".
The audio was perfect though, the piano notes coming in with the clicks worked very very well, even if the sound is overwritten it works well, it fit with the graphics too.
Annoying that I had to download an engine for it to work.
It crashed part way through so I was unable to play it, sorry.
I liked the graphics a lot, but I dislike the bug on level 2, if you die you get a bit stuck in the ceiling on respawn.
It was too silent for my liking.
It was hard as nails. That's all I really have to say, wasn't fun enough for me to get through it.
Feels a bit clunky (All tile-based, even movement, no diagonal movement either).
You can move in four directions, but it's restricted, would have been nice if there was more exploration and if it was serious too, perhaps a game where you're blind and you only have the sense of touch and sound described to you as you move?
I kind of scared me, I liked it, it really hit the mood for me, but didn't really feel alone.
