That game is so sadistic hard, I ragequitted. :(

Really, make your game easier!

vonzippenstein 2011-12-23 22:48

I'm having 3 issues with this.

1. I don't hear the music.
2. I can't make the the first jump.
3. When I die I don't respawn.

Is there a button to respawn the player?
I've restarted the game 10 times and never made it passed the first jump.

Any tips?

vonzippenstein 2011-12-23 22:54

I figured it out.

You can jump mid air while falling.

'R' to restart.

ayce 2011-12-24 14:22

Nice so far. The difficulty is okay, because you don't have to restart the whole game. But you shouldn't put such a hard beginning there (the following levels are way easier than the 1.) I died countless times the first level, after that, I only died at the situation you have to go a Z-shaped route. Is it possible there is a mapping error? I can't continue my way when I reached the floor behind the "spikes" at the bottom. The conveyors are imo placed in your way, also the end/start/middle parts are screwed up. You should explain the controls, moving up didn't work with W for me + display "Press R to restart" or sth like that when you are dead.
I use Window Vista 32bit, the game works, but I can't finish it - or I'm simply too stupid ^^
Cool graphics btw, I will rate as soon as I complete it :)

Would be nice if the plot/controls was conveyed to the player in-game. It also throws you in at the deep end a little too quick, the player needs to understand through experimentation how high your jumps are etc. before you start putting in insta-death pits and collapsing ledges. Unless you're going for "I wanna be the guy" kind of gameplay, I guess =/

Once getting the hang of the controls it was getting fun, until a glitchy hook-belt blocked my path in room three - http://black-moth.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/conveyor.png - I think AyCe is experiencing the same problem.
I got over it by walking over the top of the level from the start, but a few levels later the shadow figure is waiting in a large closed room (kind of looks like a megaman boss room), walks to the right through the wall and... I can't follow him so... game over? I guess? Is that meant to happen :/

ayce 2011-12-25 16:55

Yeah, that was the same problem I had. Sad, because the engine looked really cool!

bobbobowitz 2011-12-27 21:53

Yes, it's kind of an artsy ending - the man you're following disappears and you can't follow him.

Sorry about the level design - we had about 20 minutes to design 9 levels, and so we did a huge rush job on the levels. However, we spent plenty of time on the tileset and engine.

For anyone who didn't know: use the arrow keys to move, as wasd is a bit glitchy. Press R to restart. That's it.

I'll post a fix soon as I can - probably today. Remember to come back and try it.

Thanks everyone for playing our game! We really appreciate it!

bobbobowitz 2011-12-27 22:17

I posted the fix. Sorry about the bad website - the one I normally use is "under maintenance". Just click the blue "Download Now" button to download the zip.

mortl8324 2011-12-28 21:48

I played it. Yeah I got blocked by the hooks. =(

Overall, I thought it was a pretty cool game, but I dunno about how well the theme fit in. The sounds and everything were a bit too happy and bright. I think if everything was darker, it might create a better mood for the theme.

bobbobowitz 2011-12-29 01:54

I'm now adding the most recent update. Now the game has music (which is slightly buggy and low-quality) and more bugfixes.

hazard 2011-12-30 10:14

Love the music. You should have made the beginning easy and progress the difficulty later on, for players to get used to the controls at first. Starting off with awfully hard jumping puzzels is annoying as hell.

robmaister 2011-12-30 10:37

It was only until after I ragequit that I read in the comments that pressing R restarts the level. The game was fun, but attempting to exit stalled the entire Windows message pump and it look like my computer froze for a few seconds until my mouse started moving again, so I played the game with Task Manager ready to kill the game's process if I died.

Otherwise it was pretty cool.

xilefian 2012-01-06 16:18

You didn't correctly destroy the graphics when you close the game so you get a "Stopped working" message, use destroy_bitmap(mybitmap); at the end of the run time and make sure every bitmap is destroyed.

The difficulty curve is non-existant, there's no training, it's a shame as it's quite solid, just that it's instantly near-impossible.

The double jump wasn't even hinted at, so I nearly gave up on the first jump until I read that there is a double jump from the comments on this page.

Really is a shame, this could have been very good.

leedo 2012-01-06 16:26

I've wanted to ragequit 3 time on the first level. Then the nice music have stopped. After understanding that you can double jump and lot of luck, I've wipe the second level. Far more easier.
Then I've stopped at the third level. Hard jump + killing floor aren't good for the fun.
