Played through the game and it has a very cool setting and feel to it and the gameplay is interesting. But I would like to see you getting feels easier. I also encountered a game breaking bug, if you spam space you will get random events giving you new stats leading to your characters being crazy strong without having to do a thing it also seams to decrease your feels so I could get around -1000 all the time.

bwalter 2017-12-03 21:15

thanks for the alert! ill put in a patch right away :)

finalforeach 2017-12-04 03:29

I think every party needs a wizard. As fragile as they are, they seem crucial to defeating enemies early on. Wish it was more clear on the game mechanics though.

oldpeculier 2017-12-04 05:07

Love the graphic style. I like the gameplay premise. This game would have been the bomb in 1980. As it is, it's still full of charm.

deathray 2017-12-04 05:08

I loved the retro graphics, but I found it very hard to read the text! It was hard to know how well I was doing in combat - a little animation or something would help. It's an impressive amount of content though.

2017-12-04 05:14

It's really a nice little game with an interesting graphics style and nice sound.

nammflow 2017-12-04 05:31

I just love the art style for this game! Very neat! The theme, music, and art all fit well together to give an excellent atmosphere with the dungeon crawl style gameplay.

relsqui 2017-12-04 06:56

I like the premise of this a lot, but had some trouble understanding how the mechanics actually worked. Nice sprites and event art and stuff!

sintel 2017-12-04 12:25

Great little game. Love the old-school graphics.

The mechanics are a bit opaque, but after a while I got a feel for it.

Extra points for the humorous text!

tad 2017-12-04 15:46

I enjoyed this one a fair bit. It really does have that retro vibe, from the monochromatic pixel art to the encounter sounds.

Well done!

unclechris 2017-12-04 15:49

Fun game, a little difficult to work out - and sometimes SPACE wouldn't take and sometimes it would, was odd that way. Not sure if me or game. The graphics were good, the game play was interesting - I died a lot, but the variety was very good.

geeitsomelaldy 2017-12-04 16:52

Would be nice to have more options than to just fight or flee, but a fun game as is.

cmlsc 2017-12-04 17:31

It's a nice idea, but(unless I missed something) it doesn't seem like you have very many options in most cases. I like the overall aesthetic of the game though! ^-^

tvance 2017-12-04 21:07

lol @ "you bravely ran away"... I never!

kashif 2017-12-05 03:12

Lol. Nice setting, Very well executed

muromets 2017-12-05 03:45

Loved the graphics and the setting, and it has a lot of content, that's great, some animation during the fights would do it much good, understandable however for the 48 hr limit :D

bobo-games 2017-12-05 05:05

The graphics are great and the music fits it too! Text was a bit hard to read and I don't quite understand the mechanics completely but I liked building a fun party.

brenden 2017-12-05 05:07

I really like the atmosphere of the game! The music, "Mood" stat and even the graphics made me feel really depressed, in a good way. It feels like an old 1980's version of Darkest Dungeon, I like it!

fangzhangmnm 2017-12-05 05:18

The music is a bit annoying, since it is a game requiring concentration and imagination The feedback on attacks is not intuitive. The hp numbers are rather small and no animation to enhance their changes. Maybe it is for an old-school feeling which I cannot get. anyway this game feels good

rainbowjam 2017-12-05 05:56

I quite like the look of this game although it is pretty minimal and slightly hard to the eyes. Really nice though with a nice soundtrack ~~I found it pretty difficult~~ A bit too easy though you think?

gus-the-shark 2017-12-05 06:23

Nice retro graphics. The screen feels a litte too cluttered with text though. Nice job with all the different classes and enemies!

skullpixel 2017-12-05 18:56

Nice job on your entry this jam @bwalter! It took a minute to get into, but once I did I enjoyed it.

Also, you're enemy design is fantastic. I love the sly boulders. :D

Poor Walter Cox watched all of his friends die before encountering some enemies he couldn't escape, and dying. :( The feels are coming through the screen.

bwalter 2017-12-05 19:00

thanks @skullpixel ! im glad you enjoyed it! Poor walter! D: may he forever be remembered!

dirkinz 2017-12-05 23:49

Pretty neat, like the style. Lacks player feed back.

kataware 2017-12-06 15:54

I liked this one, it was a nice little game. Not too much at the start, and easy to get into (although a bit difficult)

It would be nice (for me at least) to put a number that shows the total hp of your team, so I could get more of a gauge on my choices. And another choice would be nice, but the game is really good already :)

Killian Haze forgot his identity ;(

A good submission; very unique compared to what I've seen so far.

thygrrr 2017-12-06 15:55

So here I was humming the The Bards Tale II guild music on my way to the supermarket, wishing for a quick old RPG fix.

And here it comes!

Very beautiful and cutesy monochrome game with a lot of interesting encounters and simple two-button mechanics. I like the monotonous music, though some of the enemies have very jarring sounds.

The game plays well and it makes me want to replay at least three or four times. it also offers a good deal of game play to just experiment and discover based on stats.

I don't quite understand what the theme connection is, though I did get too much feels with one of my party members a few times. The effect seemed beneficial, but the latter ones were funny and negative.

So many feels...

dunin 2017-12-06 16:10

Nice entry! The minimalists graphics and controls work great! Few more feedback good be great (see decreasing numbers in red?)...

al19890604 2017-12-06 16:12

I also drew 1bit art to do my entry too but I think yours are much better than mine. I like them very much!! And the game has the perfect feel of old school mini-game. This is also the point that I like this game. Nice compo entry! Nice game!

georgebgreen 2017-12-06 16:29

This is pretty dope! It's not easy to do the super simplistic low res monochrome style, but i think you nailed it! A few of the lines made me smile, so bonus points for humor! A couple of simple animations would have been nice to show who was doing what. Good amount of content too! Great job!

kabalatrance 2017-12-06 19:51

Very cool graphics and idea. For me it was kinda unreadable, as in I did't know what was going on most of the time, one thing that would help that is some kind of marking who took damage.

gruhh 2017-12-06 22:30

Interesting mechanics, it has a retro dynamic that is engaging. It might be interesting a little more feedbacks, but anyway congratulations to the game.

Mecânica interessante, tem uma dinâmica retro que é envolvente. Talvez fosse interessante um pouco mais de feedbacks, mas de qualquer forma parabéns pelo jogo. :flag_br:

2017-12-07 17:29

Nice graphics, interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsp8m-rrtCY

alchemic 2017-12-08 04:44

I love the graphics. The simple mechanics work very well, and I like the use of the theme.

oivin-f 2017-12-13 19:31

I'm afraid I don't really understand this at all. Even the weakest little droplets completely decimate my party? Hmmm....

salamichild 2017-12-17 18:08

I love RPGs like this, and I also love 1bit visuals~ Some of the mechanics could do with a little more explanation, but I figured it out after a couple of attempts. I really like the music and sound effects too; great job~

But I keep dying to mindflayers Q_Q

elnu 2018-12-18 21:14

You've got two WebGL links mate

bwalter 2018-12-18 22:39

elnu 2018-12-18 23:36

bwalter 2018-12-19 01:58

@mertios haha well you should check out my ld41 entry https://bwalter.itch.io/peace its much better than this one
