You did a unique job with level designing. Setting up the jump powerups in the places you put them to test if the players can figure out how to progress. Kudos.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD45 → Escape

Took me a while before I understand why I couldn't use X and C even if they were given as controls. I love the level design, and congratulations for using Pico-8.
fun game. The ending is really cute. This blue sky transition was very unexpected but I like it, it's not an effect you see very often on pico8.
Thank you @benjamin, I personally hate this transition because I think it's too harsh, but I really wanted to keep this background evolution while progressing ^^
And also I'm really glad to see someone who worked on games I really enjoyed in the past playing something I've made!
I loved both the sprites and the level design. Good use of the theme, and for some reason the animations , specially the end, made me smile. Great job!
Nice game! I really liked it!
I completed it and got into the air balloon!
Nicely done.
Kinda weird how, at the time I'm writing this comment, there are 5 positive comments yet there are 3 ratings given
@phoenix-fireflower : thanks for your feedback :slight_smile:
About the comments, the first one has been published before the end of the game jam, when the ratings weren't opened yet, but there's still one rating missing. I don't know, maybe someone forgot to give a rating
good old jump-related platformer) Nice leveldesign! Note: Sometimes second jump not working
The game was basic, but I enjoyed it! The game mechanics were solid and felt good. Maybe the main character could have a little bit of polish. But the balloon at the end was very nice.
Nice and simple! Figuring out how to progress is satisfying! The only thing I didn't like was the sky transition effect. It's quite eye-straining.
Really solid concept, congrats!
probably the best balanced game I've seen on LD45. the progression kept me engaged the whole way through. I felt like the jump could have had a more pronunced arc to make it easier.
Short, sweet, and to the point. Loved it. I liked how you didn't tell much to the player, after I collected the first coin, I thought I'd be collecting a bunch of standard powers like a dash or an attack but when I got the 2nd coin and I could now jump twice I put it all together and figured out what you were doing; and I think it's quite brilliant, I can't think of another game that does this the way you do. The one thing I would suggest to improve would be the level design, I felt this level was a bit too linear and would be cool to see some more puzzle solving with the different jump heights. Otherwise I thought it looked and played really nice, I liked the little animation at the end to. Great job!
The game mechanic is innovative and i really like the idea of it! :D won.png
Really cool game, kept me engaged and wanting to explore the more jumps I got. Controls do sometimes feel a bit not responding on the 3rd jump. But overall I really liked it!
A little bit short but cute game. Also level designs are great.
Such a cute little game. The art style fit the game really well, the simplistic Atari aesthetic was a smart choice.
Music is definitely hard to go for in a compo game, so I don't blame the game for not having it, I would just put it at the top of a list if you plan on continuing on the game. If you do decide to expand the game more, I have some suggestions if you're interested: You could make more levels where you build up different abilities, like level two could be you only have jump level 1, and the goal is to upgrade a grapple hook that you swing around on. Also some variation in the background would help, maybe some clouds in a sky, flowers on the ground, cracks in the cave wall, just little things like that will take you far (I really can't say anything though because our game is completely devoid of those :worried:)
Great job on the game! I'm praying this gets enough ratings before the deadline!
Awesome little platformer, Love these PIC0-8 style games. Would have liked to hear some music as well...I'm curious does the music need to be cerated within PICO-8 engine?
That was quite delightful ^^ Very well executed, progression is neat, difficulty is on point for a short game like this :) (Though I see you didn't open ratings for music, which is a pretty good idea since I had to mute the sound halfway ^^')
Also I thought I had a weird bug where it opened the menu very often when I tried to do a double jump, making the game absolutely impossible. Turns out the bumper sensitivity must be low since it simply happened when I pushed the stick a bit hard so that it would put pressure on the gamepad structure ^^'
@amerigo-gazaway Thanks :) To answer your question about music, yes it needs to be created in Pico-8. And because this is a virtual console there's limitations, only a few instruments available, 4 channels and a limited memory, like there are limitations about the code size, the colors you can use, the number of available sprites, etc.
Aside from the glitchy looking sky I liked it. Really solid bite sized game.
