Linux version?

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-04 06:09

Sorry. I tried but it wasn't working. I am a Linux user too btw.

triplefox 2018-12-04 06:57

I really like the concept, but I discovered something that ended my playthrough very quickly: the released build doesn't store the assets in the same way as the source, so I can't do as suggested and "delete folders". I can only delete entire levels.

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-04 13:44

I tested the game on two machines but everything was working. If something every level is in it's own folder.

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-04 13:53

I had so many thing when the competition started. There are some many bugs, but I was tired.

gamepopper 2018-12-07 12:47

You're getting a high score on theme and innovation for that premise alone, I don't think I've ever seen a game where deleting files helps you progress.

nander 2018-12-07 18:25

Ah, the assets folder isn't the actual assets folder :). When I went to the folder you moved your 'fake assets' to, it worked.

benburgh 2018-12-07 18:38

Really cool idea, I love these meta-level games.

And just a tip: If you play and rate other people's games, it increases your visibility. This deserves to be seen, so try to play some stuff this weekend!

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-07 19:09

I am adding games that I want to play since Monday.

incobalt 2018-12-08 03:19

I really enjoyed this! I tried my hardest to save the soul at the end, putting in button 61 from a previous play, bringing the souls along to the finale, and pushing the lost soul into another directory. It seemed like it would work, and I'm sad my ingenuity wasn't rewarded. But I guess sacrifices have to happen somewhere.

For those confused, the game will tell you which folder to open. It's (probably) not where you installed the game!

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-08 05:50

Funny story, there was supposed to be a leaderboard, but it was too late.

acaral 2018-12-08 07:12

the idea is so ingenious!

2018-12-08 08:17

good game

craftlord 2018-12-08 09:07

Clever little game!

mza 2018-12-09 14:49

Very innovative game. It was quite a hassle getting to the folder to delete the files. Maybe display the directory in a text-box so that we can copy and paste.

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-09 15:01

Good idea! Did you play the ludum dare version, ore the 1.0?

kerdelos 2018-12-09 20:56

Wow ! Since I'm on Linux I can't play the game so I won't rate it either but I just want to encourage you and say the the concept seems really really cool ! :)

player-2 2018-12-09 23:46

I like the idea you were going for, of which i find very unique.

However, the music fit the game, but in my opinion was too sharp (if you know what i mean), maybe you could have gone for a more soothing backing music track.

As i was playing through the game it all went black at one point and i was just sat there for about a minute or two not understanding what happened. Is this meant to happen or am i missing something? It happened after i left the first room and got into the corridor.

The mood of the game was fairly consistent. Also, i have never seen a game using this mechanic so working on this game post ludum dare to develop the idea into more may be worth considering.

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-10 04:02

When you don't see anything on the screen that means to turn your music up.

ndhr-productions 2018-12-10 15:27

This is such a great concept for a game. With more time, it could definitely be turned into something.

acr515 2018-12-10 19:11

The concept is great! But the execution could use a little work.

The graphics seemed to lack much cohesion in their simplicity and style. Also, the music was relatively annoying throughout the game. I also had the black screen as Player 2 did, but I never would've known to turn the music up. The lack of any GUI and limited user support was what really made the execution fall flat. This among other things would really bolster your game, and it would make it miles better and into a great final product. Nice job! (You're also my first 5-stars for innovation)

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-10 20:16

@acr515 thank you for the feedback. I have bigger plans for this game. I will implement the puzzles and make those little Terri's that you mention.

It's kinda funny to me that you're calling the lost soul player 2, because he originally was another character that you can play as.

colletto-gregory 2018-12-10 20:42

Very fun and interesting concept.

And the end is funny. You had made a good job.

I think a little indicator on the HUD (for remind the number of asset file can be interesting)

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-10 20:50

@colletto-gregory can you be more specific on what you want to be added to the game. I'm working on a new version and I take requests.

egos 2018-12-11 17:48

really a nice concept good job !!

mestrerothld 2018-12-12 17:21

Very interesting concept, perfectly fitting the theme! Congratulations for the implementation of such a bizarre concept!

pandanym 2018-12-15 14:32

Really original concept, pretty similar to ours, but you did it more gameplay focused, so that's interesting. Good execution ! Thank you for your game.

mr-chocolatesalmon 2018-12-16 05:21

Loved it. Similar vibes to Doki Doki Literature Club or Undertale, which was nice. Definitely a unique concept and done well. I did notice a few bugs, such as deleting the buttons and being unable to bring them back for example, but for a game made in a couple days I think you did a great job :smile:

vlad-ilisan 2018-12-16 09:04

Windows doesn't allow me to open it :( it says that it might be a virus and I'm not going to risk it. You should look into that.

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-16 09:08

@vlad-ilisan this happens with all the games of ldjam 43. Just click more info and then a run button will appear.

falak 2018-12-16 10:50

Very nice concept! The graphics and audio could be better but this is good as it is. Good luck!

justcamh 2018-12-17 03:01

I don't know what I think of the assets directory, it was rather hard to find. On my tiny PC, the bottom text was hidden from view initially (hidden under the taskbar because the window was too big), so I didn't even see it. There wasn't any info on here so I felt a bit lost. Even your video didn't really help me on that. Eventually I found a directory from the text (found by playing around with the window size), and it would have been nice to be able to copy/paste it in easier. The files could have been local, in with the actual assets of the game, but nope. Due to all of my confusion, I had deleted every single file in the local unity files that I could delete whilst running the game, hoping that something would happen. I later found that this screwed up the game, and I had no way of continuing. This was the unfortunate spiral I experienced before honestly giving up on it. The graphics looked pretty good from what I had seen, but I didn't get beyond the first set of walls. I would recommend working on the way that you present the mechanics to the player, as I was truly lost. Nice attempt, keep developing :thumbsup:

jevgeni-orehhov 2018-12-17 13:23

Man, that was so cool. Thank you. I think this is probably one of the cleaverest game of this LD. Innovation is like 10 out of 10. Very nice job.

jharler 2018-12-20 19:23

I really like the take on the theme. The idea of playing the game outside of the game is incredible. Way to think out of the box!

sorlok 2018-12-22 20:53

Cool idea for a game, and it worked fairly well! An indicator of how many switches were needed to proceed to the next level would have helped me figure out level 2 faster. Would have been cool to move files around between folders, too! I.e., take something from level 1 into level 2. (Also, would recommend shipping a zip, not an installer.)

kamekai 2018-12-23 03:26

I like the core concept of deleting assets to change aspects of the game. It would be a great mechanic for some kind of horror puzzle/adventure game.

Something about interacting with a game world outside of the game itself creates a very eerie feeling that should be explored more.

oda 2018-12-23 20:21

Really clever! Well done :)

toadietechnika 2018-12-24 11:18

The game is too technical yet a clever one. It maybe dangerous for those who can be clumsy on deleting important files for their Unity games (lol), but it's unique nonetheless. The game lacks audio, especially for feedback and the puzzles are indeed challenging. Good job.

guoboism 2018-12-24 13:06

The game is not polished enough... But you shared an interesting idea!

linus 2018-12-25 14:59

the.png

Well, the game said I could delete anything so I deleted everything and the game got stuck :p

It kept creating Level3 folder with no content and the NPC kept saying "Th" and then the level seemed to restart in an infinite loop.

Really interesting concept though, reminds me somewhat of Undertale where if you mess with the gamefiles you get different outcomes.

Needs a bit more polishing though I think because a few bugs are still present which is not a nice experience.

Good job and innovative concept. :smile:

papaver 2018-12-26 00:03

Awesome! Very innovative. I enjoyed playing it :smiley:

evbo 2018-12-26 09:38

This is super innovative, I've never seen anything quite like it before! One small thing I'd like to see added - I personally hate mixed keyboard and mouse controls unless there's an obvious reason the gameplay needs it, so I'd like to see alternate keyboard buttons for advancing dialogue and creating assets. (If you already had them, I couldn't find them, in which case some instructions would help.)

Keep up the good work!

querk 2018-12-27 11:15

Nice game, great idea. good job :)

psychedelia 2018-12-28 22:32

What a clever way to progress through the game. Well done!

jaknak72 2018-12-29 13:29

Wow very inovative idea! Didn't know that this is possible but I loved it!

ecmjohnson 2018-12-29 22:39

Great concept! It also worked very smoothly too for such a novel mechanic. Kudos!

johnny-turbo 2018-12-30 21:12

Great job! Such a cool concept, I love seeing interesting mechanics like this in games. I thought you did a good job at breaking the 4th wall so to speak but not over doing it. I did think that the puzzles were a bit too straight forward and would have liked to see a bit more challenge to them. Would be really cool to see what you could do with making a full length game out of this! I enjoyed the commentary at the end, and like how you exited the game by deleting the assets folder, I thought that was a really nice way to wrap the game up. Overall great and unique entry, congratulations on making a game in a weekend!

neon 2018-12-30 21:43

The file system interaction is pretty cool, I'd definitely like to see an expansion of the idea. This time I couldn't see connections that did much else than remove things from the world, but I'm sure the concept could be taken further. Could also be that I missed something :smile:

fashionbatman 2018-12-30 23:21

Really unique concept! It would be super interesting to see where this concept could go with a lot more time. Great job!

negativice 2018-12-31 13:56

Definitely unique and creative idea, too bad it was kind a buggy. I had some trouble with changing resolution, also got stuck on level 2 and couldn't progress.

dock-frankenstein 2018-12-31 15:33

@falak The music was really annoying and recently was remade. In the next version the music will be better trust me.

@justcamh Yes, it was hard, especially on Linux, where you had to type in a command to get there. I will probably change that in the future version.

@jevgeni-orehhov Thanks.

@jharler Thanks.

@sorlok I was thinking about this, but your suggestion probably won't be used. Sorry.

@kamekai Thanks. It will probably be a horror puzzle/adventure game.

@oda Thanks.

@toadietechnika There was a guy that didn't have mercy for the souls and deleted everything including unity files. The game was broken at that point.

@guoboism Yeah. I had only one hour to polish. That is why the music is so annoying. You should check out the new version here: https://dockfrankenstein.bandcamp.com/releases it's called "A walk cycle".

@linus You're truly a monster. You had no mercy for those souls. That's what you get. LOL.

@papaver Thanks.

@evbo Yeah, it's impossible to make controls like that. If you really like the keyboard you should buy a steam controller. It's very nice if you get used to it.

@querk Thanks.

@psychedelia Thanks.

@jaknak72 Thanks.

@ecmjohnson Thanks.

@johnny-turbo There were supposed to be puzzles with buttons not gates cables, doors and other stuff, but I didn't have any time. Also I didn't broke the fourth wall. I DESTROYED IT!

@neon I'm thinking about releasing the game on steam, with improved everything. Although I don't know if steam would allow something like this.

@fashionbatman I'm thinking about releasing the game on steam, with improved everything. Although I don't know if steam would allow something like this.

@negativice I had literally 1 hour to polish. Sorry.
